La ricerca di una nuova fonte di energia pulita è l'obiettivo per la comunità scientifica che dovrebbe essere raggiunto nei prossimi decenni. L'idrogeno ha guadagnato molta attenzione nella comunità scientifica come vettore di energia rinnovabile. Tuttavia, ora, l'obiettivo principale in campo energetico è quello di passare dalla produzione di idrogeno grigio (ottenuto da fonti fossili con successiva emissione di anidride carbonica) a quella di idrogeno verde (prodotto con zero carbon footprint). Durante il mio dottorato di ricerca, mi sono concentrata su diverse tematiche riguardanti l'uso dei coloranti organici per migliorare la cattura della radiazione solare in dispositivi per la produzione di combustibili solari. Ho studiato due diverse applicazioni, una fotocatalitica e una fotoelettrochimica. Per queste applicazioni, ho considerato approcci covalenti e non covalenti. In fotocatalisi, ho studiato solo un approccio non covalente tra il colorante e il donatore di elettroni sacrificali (SED). Ho deciso di non indagare su un'interazione covalente, perché, siccome il SED non può essere rigenerato dal sistema, porterebbe alla conseguente perdita di anche il colorante. In ogni caso, l'instaurazione dell'interazione supramolecolare ha favorito l'attività fotocatalitica confermando il successo del nuovo design proposto. Riguardo alle celle fotoelettrochimiche, ho invece investigato entrambi gli approcci. Presento il primo esempio di coloranti a base di calix[4]arene impiegati nei fotoanodi di celle fotoelettrochimiche per sfruttare le loro capacità host-guest. Tuttavia, le prove di una corretta interazione host-guest benefica o infruttuosa tra i coloranti e il catalizzatore sono ancora in fase di studio. Il secondo approccio non covalente investigato è l'interazione π-π tra un colorante funzionalizzato con grafene e un catalizzatore propriamente funzionalizzato. Sono tutt'ora in corso le ulteriori caratterizzazioni e gli studi in applicazioni fotoelettrochimiche. Riguardo all'approccio covalente, questo dovrebbe risultare più stabile e con l'immobilizzazione del catalizzatore a una distanza fissa dalla superficie del semiconduttore, è possibile evitare l'instaurarsi di interazioni dannose con il semiconduttore. Ho presentato il primo esempio di diadi a base di coloranti organici per l'applicazione di fotoanodi. Queste molecole hanno mostrato un'eccellente efficienza nell'evoluzione dell'ossigeno essendo la più alta rispetto allo stato attuale dell'arte per sistemi simili. L'altro disegno covalente proposto è stato ottenuto durante il mio periodo all'estero a Yale University. Questo design innovativo ha fallito nell’uso in celle fotoelettrochimiche, ma questa molecola ha mostrato ottime prestazioni come semplice catalizzatore in celle elettrochimiche. Significa che questo catalizzatore possiede il giusto potenziale per ossidare l'acqua e può essere utilizzato in combinazione con una fonte di energia esterna, come i pannelli solari. Tuttavia, sono necessarie ulteriori indagini nella porzione di colorante per ottenere un migliore trasferimento di carica per le applicazioni PEC.<br>The pursuit of a clean energy source is a goal for the scientific community that should be achieved in the following decades. In recent years, hydrogen has gained much attention in the scientific community as a renewable energy carrier. However, the main goal in the energetic field is to move from the production of grey hydrogen (obtained using fossil sources with the subsequent emission of carbon dioxide) to the evolution of green hydrogen (produced with zero carbon footprint). During my Ph. D., I have focused on different topics regarding the use of organic dyes as visible light photosensitizers in devices for the production of solar fuels through efficient light harvesting. I investigated both photocatalytic (PC) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) applications. For these applications, I considered both covalent and non-covalent approaches. In the PC application, I investigated only a non-covalent approach between the dye and the sacrificial electron donor (SED). I decided not to investigate a covalent interaction because since the system cannot regenerate the SED, it would have led to the loss of the dye as well. Regardless, the establishment of supramolecular interactions that favored the photocatalytic activity confirmed the success of the new proposed design. In the PEC application, I investigated both approaches. I present the first example of calix[4]arene-based dyes employed in photoanodes of PEC cells to exploit their host-guest capabilities. However, the evidence of the establishment of either beneficial or fruitless host-guest interaction between the dyes and the water oxidation catalyst (WOC) is still under investigation. The second non-covalent approach investigated is the π-π interaction between a graphene-functionalized dye and a suitable modified WOC. All the further characterization and PEC applications are in progress. On the other hand, the covalent approach should be the most stable, and with the immobilization of the WOC at a fixed distance from the semiconductor surface, it is possible to avoid the establishment of a detrimental interaction with the semiconductor. We presented the first example of organic-dye-based dyads for photoanode application. These molecules showed excellent efficiencies in oxygen evolution being the highest concerning the actual state of the art for similar systems. The other covalent design proposed has been obtained during my Ph. D. period abroad at Yale University. This innovative design failed in the PEC application, but this molecule exhibited very good performances as simple WOC in electrochemical cells. This means that this WOC has the right potential to oxidize water and can be used in combination with an external source of energy, such as solar panels. However further investigation in the dye portion is required to achieve a better charge transfer for the PEC applications.

El creixement de la població i dels nous països emergents fa que el consum energètic es dispari. Tota la població depèn d’aquest consum i com a conseqüència es depèn de les reserves de combustibles fòssils disponibles. Una de les fonts d’energia no esgotable i que proveu a la terra d’una gran quantitat d’energia es el Sol. Aquesta Energia ja està sent explotada amb la utilització de panells solars basades en silici. No obstant degut al seu alt cost de fabricació no poden competir amb les fonts d’energia ja existents. Per tant, noves investigacions en alternatives han estat àmpliament estudiades. Unes de les alternatives que han estat àmpliament estudiades durant aquests anys han estat les cel·les sensitivitzades amb colorant (DSSC) i les cel·les orgàniques (OPV). Les bases i el funcionament d’aquests dos tipus de dispositius es mostren en el capítol 1. El principal estudi d’aquesta tesis es centra en el disseny i la síntesis de nous colorants per aquest tipus de dispositius. Aquests colorants tenen un paper molt important en aquests dispositius i moltes vegades la seva eficiència deriva de l’estructura d’aquests colorants degut a les reaccions que es produeixen en els dispositius. En el Capítol 3 i 4 es presenta el disseny de dos tipus de colorants pel que fa a les cel·les sensitivitzades amb colorant (DSSC). En el capítol 3 es tracta de noves molècules orgàniques amb estructura D-π-A àmpliament estudiades com a alternativa als complexes de ruteni. En el capítol 4 les molècules sintetitzades també per DSSC són una família de porfirines, les quals són les que actualment estan mostrant més eficiència. Per una altra banda en el capítol 5 s’ha sintetitzat també una porfirina però en aquest cas per estudiar la seva aplicabilitat en les cel·les solars orgàniques (OPV).<br>El Crecimiento de la población I de nuevos países emergentes hace que el consume energético se dispare. Toda la población depende de este consume I como consecuencia se depende de las reservas de combustibles fósiles disponibles. Una de las Fuentes de energía no agotable y que suministra a la tierra de una gran cantidad de energía es el Sol. Esta energía ya está siendo explotada con la utilización de paneles solares basados en Silicio. Sin embargo, debido a su elevado coste de fabricación no pueden competir con fuentes de energía ya existentes. Por lo tanto, nuevas investigaciones en alternativas han estado estudiadas. Una de las alternativas que han sido más estudiadas son las Celdas sensitibizadas con colorante (DSSC) i las Celdas Orgánicas (OPV). Las bases y su funcionamiento se muestran en el capítulo 1. El principal estudio de esta tesis se centra en el diseño y la síntesis de nuevos colorantes para estos tipos de dispositivos. Estos colorantes tienen un papel muy importante en estos dispositivos y muchas veces su eficiencia deriva de la estructura del colorante debido a reacciones que se producen en el dispositivo. En el Capítulo 3 y 4 se presenta el diseño de dos tipos de colorantes para las celdas sensitibizadas con colorante. En el Capítulo 3 se muestran moléculas orgánicas con estructura D--A que han sido ampliamente estudiadas como alternativa a los complejos de rutenio. En el capítulo 4 una familia de porfirinas ha sido sintetizada debido a los prometedores resultados mostrados siendo en la actualidad las moléculas que dan más eficiencia. En el Capítulo 5 en cambio se ha sintetizado una porfirina, pero en este caso para estudiar su aplicabilidad en las celdas orgánicas (OPV)<br>The population is growing and the consumption of energy is dramatically increasing. All the population depends on this energy and are using fossil fuels available. One of this renewable source that gives to the earth a huge amount of energy is the sun. This source is exploited nowadays with photovoltaic devices based in silicon. However due to their high cost of production is not an alternative comparing with the existent sources. For this reason scientists of the entire world are working hard in the development of alternative devices in order to reduce the cost, decrease the contamination and increase the efficiencies among others. Some of alternatives that have been widely studied during the last years have been the Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) and Organic Solar Cells (OPV). Basic principles of these devices are showed in Chapter 1. Principally the study of this thesis was focused in the design and synthesis of new sensitizers for these devices. These sensitizers play an important role in these devices and many times their structure depends on the efficiency of the device. In Chapter 3 and 4 the design and synthesis of two kinds of sensitizers and their applicability in DSSC is showed. In chapter 3 the sensitizers are organic dyes with a structure of D-π-A widely studied as alternative to the ruthenium complexes. In chapter 4 another family of sensitizers have been synthesized and also their applicability in DSSC has been studied. In this chapter the molecules are a family of porphyrins that are the molecules that nowadays are showing the most efficiency. On the other hand in Chapter 5 a new porphyrin has been synthesized but in this case to study their applicability in Organic solar Cells (OPV)

The research project object of this thesis is focused on the development of an advanced analytical system based on the combination of an improved thin layer chromatography (TLC) plate coupled with infrared (FTIR) and Raman microscopies for the detection of synthetic dyes. Indeed, the characterization of organic colorants, which are commonly present in mixtures with other components and in a very limited amount, still represents a challenging task in scientific analyses of cultural heritage materials. The approach provides selective spectral fingerprints for each compound, foreseeing the complementary information obtained by micro ATR-RAIRS-FTIR and SERS-Raman analyses, which can be performed on the same separated spot. In particular, silver iodide (AgI) applied on a gold coated slide is proposed as an efficient stationary phase for the discrimination of complex analyte mixtures, such as dyes present in samples of art-historical interest. The gold-AgI-TLC plate shows high performances related both to the chromatographic separation of analytes and to the spectroscopic detection of components. The use of a mid-IR transparent inorganic salt as the stationary phase avoids interferences of the background absorption in FTIR investigations. Moreover, by ATR microscopy measurements performed on the gold-AgI surface, a considerable enhancement in the intensity of spectra is observed. Complementary information can be obtained by Raman analyses, foreseeing a SERS activity of the AgI substrate. The method has been tested for the characterization of a mixture of three synthetic organic colorants widely used in dyeing processes: Brilliant Green (BG1), Rhodamine B (BV10) and Methylene Blue (BB9).

En raison des problèmes d'instabilité à moyen termes des cellules solaires à colorant (DSSC), l'électrolyte liquide à base d'iodure a été remplacé par plusieurs types de matériaux solides transport de trous (HTM) pour obtenir des DSSCs à l'état solide (s-DSSCs). Parmi ces matériaux, l’utilisation des polymères conducteurs(PC) a attiré une attention considérable en raison de leur bonne stabilité, de leur haute conductivité et de la facilité de leur dépôt sur le semi-conducteur mésoporeux TiO2. Dans ce travail de thèse, plusieurs s-DSSCs basées sur des PC utilisés comme HTM ont été développés dans le but d'améliorer leurs performances photovoltaïques en tenant compte des deux objectifs suivants: (i) l'optimisation des processus de transfert inter facial de charge dans la cellule solaire, et (ii) l'optimisation du transport de charge dans le semi-conducteur d'oxyde de type n. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, chaque composant de la s-DSSC a été modifié afin d'étudier son effet sur les performances du dispositif final. En première tentative, une étude analytique est réalisée en faisant varier le sensibilisateur afin de déterminer les fragments de la structure du colorant, qui ont un effet important sur le processus de photopolymérization électrochimique in-situ (PEP) à la fois en milieu organique et en milieu aqueux mais aussi sur les performances des s-DSSCs. Sur la base de ces résultats, un nouveau concept a été développé et consiste en la suppression totale de l'interface entre le colorant et le HTM. Ceci est obtenu par la synthèse de nouveaux colorants liés de façon covalente à un monomère électroactif qui est co-polymérisé par la PEP in-situ. Le copolymère résultant, utilisé comme HTM, est lié de manière covalente au colorant. En outre, la nature de la liaison chimique, reliant le résidu triphénylamine TPA au monomère, est également étudiée comme un facteur clé dans les performances de s-DSSC. En outre, et pour optimiser les processus de transport de charges dans ce type de s-DSSC, de nouvelles s-DSSC basées sur ZnO ont été réalisées et étudiées<br>Due to instability problems of dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) in longtime uses, the iodine based liquidelectrolyte has been replaced by several types of solid hole transporting materials (HTM) to perform solidstate DSSCs (s-DSSCs). Among them, the substitution by conducting polymers (CP) has attractedconsiderable attention because of their good stability, high hole-conductivity and simple deposition withinthe mesoporous TiO2 semiconductor. In this thesis work, several s-DSSCs based on CPs used as HTM havebeen developed in order to improve their photovoltaic performances taking into account the following twoobjectives: (i) the optimization of the interfacial charge transfer processes within the solar cell, and (ii) theoptimization of the charge transport within the n-type oxide semiconductor. To reach these goals, eachcomponent that constitutes the device was varied in order to investigate its effect on the device’sperformances. As first attempt, an analytical study is carried out by varying the sensitizer in order todetermine the fragments of the dyes structures, that have an important effect on the in-situ photoelectrochemical polymerization process (PEP) both in organic and in aqueous media and hence on theperformances of the s-DSSCs. Based on these results, a new concept of removing completely the interfacebetween the dye and the HTM is developed. This is achieved by the synthesis of new dyes covalently linkedto an electroactive monomer which is co-polymerized by in-situ PEP. The resulting co-polymer, used asHTM, is covalently linked to the dye. In addition, the nature of the chemical bond linking the triphenylamineresidue TPA to the monomer is also investigated as a key factor in the s-DSSCs performances. Besides, andto optimize the charge transport processes within this type of s-DSSC, the elaboration of novel ZnO baseds-DSSCs has been achieved and investigated

Le développement du photovoltaïque organique (OPV) depuis une vingtaine d’années a permis une hausse significative des rendements de photoconversion qui atteignent aujourd’hui 14 %. Ces progrès résultent à la fois de l’optimisation de l’architecture des cellules solaires organiques (OSCs) ainsi que de la mise au point de matériaux donneurs (D) et accepteurs (A) d’électrons performants. Cependant, la complexification notable des voies de synthèse de ces matériaux limite la production à grande échelle de modules OPV en raison de coûts de production élevés et de génération de nombreux déchets. Dans ce contexte et après un premier chapitre retraçant l’historique de l’OPV et les découvertes ayant contribuées à son succès, un deuxième chapitre traite de l’utilisation d’un colorant simple, le dicétopyrrolopyrrole (DPP), dans des matériaux de type p ou n. De nouveaux accepteurs moléculaires ont été synthétisés et l’impact de la nature des chaines solubilisantes et de l’espaceur π-conjugué sur leurs propriétés optoélectroniques est présenté. Un nouveau copolymère de DPP et de spirobifluorène, facilement accessible par des voies de synthèse plus respectueuses de l’environnement, a aussi été développé et caractérisé lors de ce travail et ses performances photovoltaïques sont détaillées. Un troisième chapitre se focalise sur le benzothioxanthène imide (BTXI), bloc encore méconnu dans le domaine de l’électronique organique. Les propriétés électroniques de ce dernier ont été caractérisées et, après une optimisation de sa voie de synthèse, des dérivés de BTXI ont été intégrés avec succès dans des dispositifs de type OSCs et transistors organiques en couche mince (OTFTs)<br>Intense development of organicphotovoltaics (OPVs) in the last twenty years led toincreasing photoconversion efficiencies, which are nowabout 14 %. Electron donating (D) and electronaccepting (A) materials used in such solar cells havereceived considerable attention from the academicsaround the world and are still continuously improved.However, those performing materials requirenumerous synthetic steps and the use of toxicchemicals to be produced, which jeopardize their futurecommercialization.In this context, after a first chapter reviewing recentprogresses in OPV, a second chapter will focus on asimple dye, namely the diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) andits use in p and n type materials.New molecular DPP-based acceptors weresynthetized and the impact of the solubilizing chainsalong with the -conjugated spacer on theirphotovoltaic properties are discussed. Then, a newDPP and spirobifluorene (SBF) based copolymer wassynthetized by a more environmentally friendlysynthetic route and its photovoltaic properties aredetailed.A third chapter focuses on the benzothioxantheneimide (BTXI), a building block that has not yettriggered much interest in the organic electronicscommunity. Electronic properties of the latter werecharacterized and, after its synthetic pathway wasoptimized, new BTXI based molecular materials weresynthesized and used in organic solar cells andorganic thin-film transistors (OTFTs)

Organic colorants obtained from natural sources such as plants and insects have been widely used as textile dyes or lake pigments for paintings, sculptures and other kinds of polychrome works of art since ancient times until the second half of the 19th century, when the industrial production of synthetic dyes had begun. Chemical investigation of such materials is of great interest to art historians, restorers and art conservators. In fact, the analysis of ancient dyes can be of help in revealing what kind of substances were available in particular periods and geographical areas, providing valuable data about the historical context of a work of art, the lifestyle and the technical knowledge reached by a certain population in a given historical age, shedding light on the possible interactions between different cultures as well as the trade routes and commercial transactions which may have allowed the usage of a particular colorant far from its geographical source. Moreover, discovering nature and origin of the coloring substances employed in the production of a work of art can provide precious information regarding its original color and appearance, thus offering new insights into the artist’s choices and original intention, the techniques used and the dates ante quem and post quem the art object was produced, possibly leading to the uncovering of falsifications and forgeries. Furthermore, scientific analysis applied to the study of art materials and, specifically, of pigments and dyes, may contribute to assess suitable conservation and restoration procedures to be applied to paint defects and degraded pigments in works of art of any kind; in fact, time, environmental conditions and several other circumstances unavoidably cause damage and deterioration to art objects and artifacts, which therefore require careful conservation to be safeguarded as important elements of our cultural heritage. The identification of historical dyes is currently one of the most challenging tasks in the chemical investigation of art materials, for three main reasons. First of all, colorants in works of art and archaeological textiles are usually included in complex matrixes such as paint layers or cloth fibers, where they are present in mixture with other substances, such as binding media or mordants, and in very low concentrations due to their high tinting power. Besides, sampling of art objects is always limited to microscopic fragments, when at all allowed. An additional analytical challenge is posed by the remarkable susceptibility to deterioration of organic materials, which can undergo a number of chemical degradation processes leading to the formation of specimens with a different molecular structure in comparison to the primary organic dye. Several instrumental techniques, of both chromatographic and spectroscopic type, have been employed for the detection of colorants over the years. In recent times, the great potential of SERS has been appreciated, as the adsorption of the analyte on nanosized metal surfaces, resulting in a significant enhancement of the Raman scattering intensity and strong fluorescence quenching, leads to obtaining a specific fingerprint for many organic substances, markedly reducing the amount of sample that would be otherwise required for analysis. However, on the other hand, SERS poses a whole set of challenges, as only a small number of molecules have been studied so far and the necessity of searchable databases of reference materials is still to be fulfilled; moreover, SERS is not a separation technique, and therefore it often suffers from spectral interferences due to the presence of impurities or matrix components. In this context, the present doctoral thesis work aims to the improvement of pre-existing analytical methods as well as to the development of innovative procedures for the identification of organic dyes of artistic and archaeological interest, with special attention being devoted to SERS. The scientific results here reported are the fruit of a research activity carried out both at Università degli Studi di Milano and in the Department of Scientific Research of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, USA). First of all, an effective experimental protocol for SERS analyses on silver colloids aggregated by NaClO4 was optimized and a wide spectral database of historical natural colorants was thus assembled, containing among the others the spectra of several dyes never studied before. The SERS procedure developed, in association with complementary analytical investigations of different kind, was then successfully applied to the identification of a yellow dye in ancient wool threads from the Libyan Sahara and to the detection of several colorants in Kaitag textiles, a unique embroidered textile art form from Caucasus. Work carried out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art comprises a comparative study of the most relevant SERS approaches recently introduced in art analysis: relative merits and drawbacks of HF hydrolysis and non-hydrolysis methodologies were evaluated, and a two-step procedure for the investigation of organic dyes in works of art was proposed. Results obtained from reference dyes were compared with those achieved on samples taken from a number of artworks and ancient objects, including masterpiece oil paintings, musical instruments, archaeological textiles and lake pigments. Watercolors from a historical Winsor & Newton handbook dating to 1887 were then characterized using SERS and ordinary Raman spectroscopies, and a database of original art materials was acquired, to be used for dating as well as in authentication and identification studies. Also, coupling of TLC and SERS was investigated and tested as a promising tool for the separation and identification of the main alkaloid constituents of Syrian rue dye. Finally, a comprehensive Raman study of monobromoindigo, component of the historical colorant Tyrian purple, was performed, together with a detailed assignment of the spectral lines observed by comparison with density functional theory (DFT) quantum mechanical calculations.

En une heure, la Terre reçoit en énergie solaire l’équivalent d’une année de consommation énergétique mondiale. Pour cette raison, les cellules photovoltaïques qui convertissent des photons en électricité, ont un rôle déterminant à jouer dans la transition énergétique imposée par les changements climatiques. Les cellules solaires sensibilisées par des colorants sont une des technologies émergentes qui ont déjà été utilisées à l’échelle industrielle à travers quelques exemples d’intégration aux bâtiments. Elles représentent une alternative esthétique et peu cher comparée aux cellules à silicium. Ces cellules hybrides dites de « Grätzel » utilisent un semi-conducteur inorganique nanostructuré sur lequel est greffé un colorant qui à l’état photo-excité va injecter des électrons dans l’oxyde. Ce sensibilisateur va être régénéré par un couple redox présent dans un électrolyte ou un transporteur de trous moléculaire qui eux-mêmes vont être régénérés à la contre-électrode. Dans ce contexte, ce travail présente les études réalisées sur certains constituants de la cellule (du semi-conducteur jusqu’au système régénérateur du colorant). La majeure partie de cette thèse concerne la synthèse et la caractérisation avancée de nouveaux semi-conducteurs organiques, des colorants ou des transporteurs de trous moléculaires, et l’étude des relations structure/propriétés. En particulier, le remplacement, la substitution ou la rigidification de groupements présents dans ces structures ont été réalisés et leur influence sur les propriétés des nouvelles molécules a été étudiée. Les colorants synthétisés présentent des maxima de la bande d’absorption à plus faible énergie allant de 440 nm à 610 nm. Les niveaux d’énergie de ces nouveaux matériaux organiques ont été déterminés par voltammétrie cyclique et également calculés et localisés par la chimie quantique. Certains composés ont été étudiés par diffraction des rayons X, par analyse thermogravimétrique ou par calorimétrie différentielle à balayage. Après une complète caractérisation, ces matériaux ont été intégrés dans des dispositifs photovoltaïques à colorants en utilisant un électrolyte liquide pour atteindre des efficacités élevées jusqu’à 9,78 % en utilisant un seul colorant et jusqu’à 10,90 % dans le cas de la co-sensibilisation du TiO2 par deux sensibilisateurs. Certains colorants ont également conduit à des efficacités se situant à l’état de l’art à 7,81 % en remplaçant l’électrolyte liquide par un liquide ionique. De plus, certains colorants dans ces mêmes dispositifs ont présenté une excellente stabilité avec une perte comprise entre 7 et 38 % après 7000 heures d’illumination continue à 1000 W.m-2 à 65 °C. Enfin, des premiers tests ont également été réalisés en dispositifs à l’état solide qui ont conduit à une efficacité 4,5 % avec un transporteur de trous de référence ouvrant de nouvelles perspectives d’application après optimisations. En parallèle, les nouveaux transporteurs de trous synthétisés dans ce travail se sont révélés efficaces en cellules à base de pérovskites<br>During one hour, the Earth receives solar energy which is equivalent to one year of the world energy consumption. For this reason, photovoltaic cells that convert photons to electricity, have a key role to play in the energetic transition imposed by climate change. Dye-sensitized solar cells are one of the emergent technologies that have already been used at the industrial scale in a few examples of building integrating. They represent an esthetic and low-cost alternative compared to silicon solar cells. These hybrid cells also named « Grätzel cells » use a nanostructured inorganic semi-conductor where a dye is grafted onto the surface and acts as a sensitizer. This dye injects electrons after photo-excitation in the oxide. The dye is regenerated by a redox couple present in a liquid electrolyte or a hole transport material that are themselves regenerated by the counter electrode. In this context, this work presents studies about some of the cell constituents (from the semi-conductor to the dye regenerating system). The major part of this thesis concerns the synthesis and the advanced characterization of organic semi-conductors, dyes or hole transport materials, and the study of the structure/properties relations. In particular, the replacement, the substitution, or the rigidification of some functional groups in these structures were achieved and their influence on the properties of the new molecules were studied. The synthesized dyes present maxima of the absorption band at the lowest energy between 440 nm and 610 nm. Energy levels of the new organic materials were determined by cyclic voltammetry and also calculated and localized using the quantum chemistry. Some of the compounds were studied by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. After a complete characterization, these materials were integrated in dye-sensitized photovoltaic devices using a liquid electrolyte to achieve high efficiencies up to 9,78 % using a single dye and up to 10,90 % in the case of the co-sensitization of TiO2 with two dyes. Certain dyes have demonstrated state-of-the-art efficiencies at 7,81 % by replacing the liquid electrolyte by an ionic liquid electrolyte. Moreover, the use of some of the dyes in these last devices was carried out and found to have an excellent stability with a loss of initial efficiency included between 7 % and 38 % after 7000 hours of continuous illumination at 1000 W.m-2 at 65 °C. Finally, first tests were also realized in solid state devices that showed an efficiency of 4,5 % with a reference hole transport material opening new application perspectives after optimizations. In parallel, the new synthesized hole transport materials in this work were effective in perovskite-based cells

EXPERIMENTO DE PLASMAS<br>La tendencia del ser humano a lo largo del tiempo es a deteriorar el medio ambiente, al producir algún grado de contaminación al mismo, lo que se conoce como “huella de carbono”. Es claro que no es posible cambiar drásticamente los hábitos de vida, en particular la satisfacción de las necesidades de vestido, que actualmente conlleva el uso de ropa diseñada con nuevas telas, cuya producción involucra procesos altamente contaminantes por la cantidad de agua y colorantes naturales y artificiales que se ocupan, de los cuales, sobresalen los que se clasifican como ácidos y básicos [1]. La industria textil es una de las que más agua consume y contamina, al afectar los mecanismos de fotosíntesis en ríos, lagunas y mares. Actualmente, el planeta presenta severos problemas ambientales relacionados con la contaminación del agua y el aire. En México existe la Norma Oficial NOM-014-ECOL-1993 que regula los niveles de contaminación del agua proveniente de la industria, la cual dictamina que antes de descargar el agua residual a los ríos más cercanos, debe de pasar previamente por plantas tratadoras. Las industrias textiles generan en promedio 200-350 m3 de aguas residuales por tonelada de fibra teñida terminada [2], las cuales son descargadas, después de haber pasado por un tratamiento, en los afluentes; la problemática es que dicho tratamiento no es suficiente para eliminar todos los residuos contaminantes, como los colorantes textiles, lo que representa un enorme problema ambiental [3]. En particular esas aguas residuales se caracterizan por presentar un color intenso, alto pH, alta demanda química de oxígeno y biotoxicidad [4], por ello, es necesario buscar alternativas efectivas para la degradación de los colorantes. lgunas de las alternativas que se han propuesto en los últimos años para resolver esta problemática son biológicas, por medio de enzimas [5], químicas, llamados Procesos Avanzados de Oxidación (PAO´s,), los cuales son la técnica más usada actualmente [6] y físicas, por medio de plasmas. Existe una gran variedad de colorantes textiles pero los que mayormente se usan en la industria son el tipo Azo (Azoico) entre los cuales sobresale el Negro Ácido 52 (Acid Black 52, AB52 por sus siglas en inglés) que se aplica sobre fibras proteicas como la lana y las fibras colorantes de poliamida como el nylon. Este tipo de colorante muestra una resistencia al lavado, lo que lo convierte en un contaminante en las aguas residuales y no puede tratarse por métodos convencionales. En este trabajo se usaron plasmas como medio para tratar el agua con el colorante AB52, este método es posible aplicarlo a bajas presiones, así como a presión atmosférica, produciendo diferentes especies atómicas y moleculares, las cuales son las responsables del proceso de degradación del colorante; además, este proceso destaca sobre otros porque no genera contaminación secundaria.

Les lasers organiques solides disposent d’atouts considérables par rapport aux autres types de laser : l’accordabilité en longueur d’onde dans le visible et la simplicité de fabrication. Ils restent néanmoins à la marge d’une commercialisation et le phénomène de photodégradation en est la principale cause. Le VECSOL pour Vertical External Cavity Surface-emitting Organic Laser est une structure de laser particulièrement bien adaptée pour l’étudier car elle permet un contrôle très simple de plusieurs paramètres pouvant entrer en jeu dans le phénomène de photodégradation. Ainsi lors de cette thèse, où nous avons cherché à comprendre quels sont les facteurs ayant une influence sur la durée de vie des lasers, l’intensité intracavité s’est par exemple révélée être un élément crucial : plus elle est grande, plus la durée du laser est grande. Par ailleurs, un suivi en temps réel de la forme du faisceau laser a montré que celle-ci, gaussienne au départ, devenait annulaire avant de s’éteindre traduisant la « mort » progressive des molécules sollicitées pendant le pompage.Une seconde partie de la thèse concerne la polarisation de la fluorescence des molécules organiques utilisées en laser solide. Nous avons montré que la concentration en colorant influençait grandement la dépolarisation de l’émission spontanée. Enfin, en fonctionnement laser, le faisceau reste polarisé rectilignement (comme la pompe) quel que soit la concentration en colorant<br>Although organic solid-state dye lasers can provide wavelenght tunability in the whole visible spectrum and offers perpectives of low-cost compact lasers, they are still limited by several drawbacks, especially photodegradation. The geometry of a Vertical External Cavity Surface-emitting Organic Laser (VECSOL) enables organic lasers to reach high energies, excellent conversion efficiences and good beam quality, it also enables an external control on many parameters, a feature that we have udes here to study the photodegradation phenomenon as well as some polarization properties of organic solid-state lasers. In the first part of this thesis, we studied the lifetime of the laser upon varying several parameters (pump pulsewidth, repetition rate, output coupling, ...) and we found that the intracavity laser intensity, independently of the pump intensity, had a major on photodegradation rate. Moreover, we observed that the profile of the laser beam was also degrading with time : while it is Gaussian in the beginning it gradually shifts to an annular shape. In the second part, we investigated the polarization properties of VECSOLs, with a special emphasis on fluorescence properties of some typical dyes used in lasers. The crucial role played by resonant nonradiative energy transfers between dye molecules (HOMO-FRET) is evidenced and enables explaining the observed fluorescence depolarization, compared to the expected limiting fluorescence anisotropy. Energy transfers happen to play a negligible role above laser threshold, as the organic laser beam is shown to be linearly polarized in a wide range of experimental conditions when excitation occurs in the first singlet state

Ces travaux portent principalement sur l’étude de trois plantes tinctoriales : la garance, le nerprun et la gaude. Ces végétaux ont fait l’objet de nombreuses cultures en Provence et constituaient la principale matière première en colorants rouges et jaunes pour les teinturiers et les artistes. Une optimisation des conditions d’extraction des colorants de la garance assistée par ultrasons a été effectuée en utilisant un modèle statistique. Ce procédé d’extraction simple, rapide et efficace, a été comparé à deux autres techniques utilisées conventionnellement. Une étude cytohistologique des racines de garance a permis d’examiner les effets apportés par les différents procédés d’extraction. Les cellules traduisent après extraction par ultrasons, de profondes déstructurations fournissant une explication au plus important rendement en colorant extraits en comparaison aux extractions classiques. Une étude fondamentale sur l’identification des colorants extraits à partir des fruits immatures d’espèces appartenant au genre Rhamnus a été effectuée. Une approche chromatographique utilisant la CLHP/UVVisible/ SM a permis d’identifier la partie flavonol. Elle présente principalement des composés glycosylés dont la partie rhamninoside est liée sur le flavonol en position 3 ou 4'. Des flavonols 3-O-acétyl-rhamninoside ont également été caractérisés et sont spécifiques de Rh. saxatilis. Les fruits matures renferment aussi des anthraquinones qui ont été séparées des flavonols et concentrées en utilisant l’Extraction sur Phase Solide (SPE). Après analyse par RMN, des dérivés rhamnoside et arabinoside acétylés de l’émodine, jamais décrits dans la littérature, ont été identifiés dont le 6-O-(3',4' diacétyl)-arabinopyranoside d’émodine et 6-O-(2',3',4'-triacétyl)- arabinopyranoside d’émodine présents seulement dans Rh. alaternus. Les colorants jaunes de la gaude (Reseda luteola) ont été analysés par électrophorèse capillaire. En comparaison avec la CLHP, un gain important de la durée d’analyse a été observé tout en conservant une séparation convenable. L’ensemble de ces résultats expérimentaux a pu être appliqué avec succès à l’étude de colorants extraits à partir d’objets et d’échantillons historiques provenant de collections muséales et comprenant notamment des indiennes du XIXème siècle. Enfin, des essais de teintures ont été réalisés, en collaboration avec la société Les Olivades dans le but de développer une gamme de tissus à base de colorants naturels<br>This work concerns the study of three tinctorial plants: madder, buckthorn and weld. These plant species produced many cultures in Provence and represented the principal raw material in red and yellow dyes for dyers and artists. An optimisation of extraction conditions for madder dyes, using ultrasounds, was carried out with a statistical model. This easy, fast and effective extraction process was compared with two other conventional techniques. A cytohistological study on madder roots permits to examine effects produced by the different extraction processes. Cells reveal, after ultrasonic extraction, profound structural alterations, explaining the high yield in extracted dyes in comparison with classical methods. A fundamental study on the dyes identification extracted from Rhamnus species green fruits was carried out. A chromatographic approach using HPLC-UV-MS permits to identify the flavonol fraction. It is mainly composed of glycosiled compounds where the rhamninosid part is linked in position 3 or 4’ on the flavonol nucleus. 3-O-acetyl-rhamninosid derivatives were also characterised and they are specific to Rh. saxatilis species. Ripe fruits contained anthraquinonic compounds that were separated from flavonols and concentrated using Solid Phase Extraction (SPE). After NMR analyse, acetyl rhamnosid and arabinosid derivatives of émodine, never described in the specialised literature, were identified as emodin-6-O-(3',4'-diacetyl)-arabinopyranosid and emodin-6-O-(2',3',4' triacetyl)-arabinopyranosid were only present in Rh. alaternus. Yellow dyes of weld (Reseda luteola) were analysed by capillary electrophoresis. In comparison with HPLC, a reduced run time was observed while preserving a suitable separation. These experimental results were successfully applied to the study of ancient samples belonging from museums and including “indiennes” of the XIXth century. Finally, dying tests were carried out, in collaboration with Les Olivades society, in the aim to develop textiles containing natural dyes

La présence combinée de différents types de polluants dans les effluents industriels est une problématique assez complexe à résoudre pour les chercheurs dans le domaine de la protection de l'environnement. Dans ce contexte, le principal objectif de ce travail de thèse a été d'améliorer la compréhension des mécanismes de sorption à l'interface solide liquide, processus impliqués dans la rétention compétitive pour une sélection de colorants organiques et d'espèces inorganiques sur des matériaux adsorbants modèles. Ce manuscrit comprend une étude détaillée de l'adsorption combinant différentes approches et techniques expérimentales complémentaires, principalement à partir de mesures de cinétiques et d'isothermes d'adsorption, une étude structurale par diffraction des rayons X, et une approche thermodynamique par calorimétrie isotherme de titrage. Trois colorants azoïques: Méthyl Orange (MO), Orange II (OII) et Orange G (OG) ont été retenus pour ce travail. Ils ont la particularité de présenter différentes tailles de molécules, différentes charges et caractères hydrophile/ hydrophobe, … D'autre part, deux types de matériaux chargés positivement et considérés comme échangeurs anioniques ont été choisis comme solides adsorbants modèles : Mg-Al Hydroxyde Double Lamellaire (HDL) contenant dans son espace interfoliaire soit des contre-ions nitrate (Mg-Al-HDL-NO3) soit des chlorures (Mg-Al-HDL-Cl) et une résine échangeuses d'ions Amberlite® IRN-78. Enfin, l'impact des oxoanions comme les carbonates (IV), les sulfates (VI), les chromates (VI) et phosphates (V) sur les propriétés de rétention des colorants sur ces adsorbants a été évalué. Dans un premier temps, l'adsorption des colorants a été réalisée sur ces trois matériaux dans des systèmes mono-composant afin d'étudier en détail les mécanismes de rétention. L'étude des Mg-Al-HDL échangés par diffraction des rayons X a permis de montrer que l'échange d'anions est accompagné de l'intercalation dans l'espèce interfoliaire de la nouvelle espèce sorbée, générant des modifications structurales. En systèmes mono- et multi-composant, la rétention des MO semble supérieure à la capacité d'échange anionique (CEA) théorique des HDL. Ce comportement a été attribué à l'adsorption du colorant sur les surfaces externes, ainsi qu'à la co-adsorption des cations sodium, contre-ions du colorant. Il a aussi été montré que la capacité d'adsorption dépend fortement du caractère hydrophile-hydrophobe des colorants et de leur capacité à établir des interactions latérales (de pi-stacking) avec les autres espèces voisines directement au sein de l'espace interfoliaire. La calorimétrie de titrage isotherme a mis en évidence des comportements inhabituels dans les thermogrammes décrivant l'évolution de l'enthalpie cumulative de déplacement, en lien avec la formation d'agrégats fibrillaires provenant de l'interaction entre l'OII et les espèces Mg(II), issues de la dissolution partielle des HDL au contact du colorant.Dans un second temps, l'étude de la compétition entre les colorants organiques et des anions inorganiques sur ces matériaux a démontré que l'élimination de colorant est fortement influencée par la présence d'anions phosphate ainsi que d'anions carbonate. L'analyse détaillée des différentes espèces compétitives a permis de proposer une classification sur la base de trois types de schémas de compétitions, en lien avec la forme des isothermes individuelles et les données calorimétriques, comme l'enthalpie cumulative en système mono-composant. L'ensemble de cette description des mécanismes de rétention dans des systèmes mono- ou multi-composants a été complété par des études plus applicatives comme les phénomènes de cinétiques de sorption, de réversibilité. In this context, the main objective of the present Ph.D. thesis has been to improve the comprehension of the sorption mechanisms involved in the competitive retention of selected organic dyes and inorganic species at the Solid-Liquid interface by using some model sorbents.The manuscript reports the results of advanced sorption studies made by combining several experimental techniques, mainly including kinetic and equilibrium adsorption measurements, XRD diffraction, as well as isothermal titration calorimetry. Three Azo dyes differing in the molecular size, electric charge, and hydrophobic/hydrophilic character, i.e., Methyl Orange (MO), Orange II (OII), and Orange G (OG), were selected for the purpose of this work. Two types of solid materials possessing positively charged surface sites were considered as model sorbents: layered double hydroxide structures based on Mg and Al (molar Mg:Al ratio of 2) with either nitrate (Mg-Al-LDH-NO3) or chloride counter-ions (Mg-Al-LDH-Cl) localized in the interlayer space, on the one hand, and strongly basic anion-exchange resin, Amberlite® IRN-78, on the other hand. The impact of carbonate(IV), sulfate(VI), chromate(VI), and hydrogen phosphate(V) oxyanions on the retention capacity of model sorbents towards the three dyes was also investigated thoroughly.In the first step, the single-component adsorption onto three sorbents was analyzed in regards with the detailed mechanism of retention. In all cases, an ion-exchange pathway between the pristine compensating anions (NO3-, Cl-, OH-) or anions coming from the ambient atmosphere (e.g., carbonates) and the oncoming anionic species was identified as the principal retention mechanism. In the case of LDH sorbents, this anion exchange was accompanied by the intercalation of the adsorbing species within the interlayer space with the concomitant changes in the layered structure, as inferred from the XRD study of the LDH samples loaded with the appropriate solute species. The retention of monovalent MO anions, both from the single-solute and bi-solute solutions, was found to exceed the anionic exchange capacity (AEC) of the LDH samples, which was ascribed to the dye adsorption on the external surface paralleled by the co-adsorption of sodium cations. The adsorption capacity was demonstrated to depend strongly on the hydrophilic-hydrophilic character of the dye units and their capacity of generating lateral interactions (e.g., pi-stacking) with other adsorbed species within the LDH structure. The use of isothermal calorimetry allowed the unusual shape of the curve representing the cumulative enthalpy of displacement to be attributed to the formation of OII aggregates/fibers induced by the presence of Mg and Al cations originating from the partial dissolution of the LDH sample. Competitive adsorption of dye and selected inorganic anions on the three model sorbents was studied in the second step in view of increasing the efficiency of dyes removal by optimizing experimental conditions. One of the main achievements was to categorize the dye uptake schemes in the presence of inorganic anions in regards with the shape of the experimental adsorption isotherms and to correlate them with the individual adsorbate affinities for the LDH sample, as inferred from the calorimetry measurements of the cumulative enthalpy of displacement in single-solute systems. The discussion on the mechanisms of dye retention in the single- and multi-component systems was supplemented by experimental studies of such applicative aspects of sorption phenomena as kinetics, reversibility, and selectivity.Keywords: Layered double hydroxides, anion-exchange resin, Methyl Orange, Orange II, Orange G, Cr(VI), inorganic anions, single-solute and multi-solute adsorption, XRD study, isotherm titration calorimetry

Au cours de ces travaux de thèse, deux axes d’études ont été développés. Ils consistent d’une part à la synthèse et la caractérisation de nouveaux complexes de bore, visant à être utilisés dans des cellules solaires organiques, ainsi qu’au développement de plateformes d’empilement π, permettant la modulation des propriétés structurales de semi-conducteurs organiques. Ainsi, le rendement de conversion énergétique de cellules solaires utilisant un BODIPY a été amélioré par l’addition de triazatruxènes sur ses positions β-pyrroliques. Le motif BOPHY, complexe di-nucléaire de bore, a été fonctionnalisé puis étudié optoélectroniquement. Le premier exemple d’utilisation d’un BOPHY dans une cellule solaire organique a également été effectué. Deux familles de BODIPYs ont été préparées en vue d’une utilisation dans des cellules solaires à colorant. Leur utilisation au sein d’une même structure a permis d’établir un nouveau record de conversion pour une telle utilisation d’un BODIPY<br>During this thesis, boron complexes and π-stacking mediator planar moieties have been synthetized for photovoltaic applications. Thanks to the use of triazatruxene units on β-pyrrolic positions of a BODIPY core, the solar cells photoconversion efficiency has been increased. The BOPHY moiety, a di-nuclear boron complex, has been functionalized and optoelectronically studied. The first example of the use of BOPHY in organic solar cells has been performed. Two families of BODIPYs have also been prepared to be used in dye-sensitized solar cells. A new record of photoconversion efficiency for BODIPY based solar cells has been reached using a co-adsorption of two dyes having complementary absorptions within a unique solar cell

A l’échelle mondiale, la part des énergies renouvelables dans le mix énergétique est de plus en plus importante. Basées sur le principe de la photosynthèse, les cellules solaires à colorant sont une des technologies émergentes viables pour une intégration en bâtiment. Ces cellules hybrides utilisent un oxyde semi-conducteur inorganique dont la surface est recouverte d’un colorant organique. L’absorption de la lumière incidente par ce colorant va provoquer l’injection d’un électron de l’état photo-excité de la molécule dans la bande de conduction de l’oxyde. Un médiateur rédox présent dans l’électrolyte va venir régénérer le colorant oxydé et générer un courant sous illumination. Les colorants déjà décrits dans la littérature présentent déjà des rendements de conversion pouvant atteindre 14 % mais très peu de ces matériaux peuvent absorber jusque dans la gamme proche infrarouge (700-1000 nm). Pourtant l’absorption des photons de cette gamme spectrale pourrait mener à une plus grande densité de courant générée et à de meilleures performances globales. Dans ce contexte, ce travail présente une étude complète de nouveaux colorants absorbeurs panchromatiques capable de collecter des photons jusque dans la gamme proche infrarouge. Pour cela, l’approche « donneur-accepteur » a été utilisée afin d’obtenir les propriétés optoélectroniques désirées. Une première famille à base de dérivés du benzothiadiazole a été développée conduisant à de très bonnes propriétés d’absorption dans la gamme proche infrarouge (absorption jusqu’à 925 nm). Les propriétés optiques, électrochimiques et photovoltaïques de ces matériaux ont été étudiées afin de comprendre les limitations de ces matériaux pour une application en cellules solaires. Suite à cela, une nouvelle famille de colorant à base de dérivés de l’isoindigo a été synthétisée et étudiée par spectroscopie UV-Visible, électrochimie et simulation DFT. Ces composés absorbent fortement dans la gamme UV-visible et proche infrarouge jusqu’à 848 nm. Après avoir optimisé les conditions d’imprégnation et de formulation de l’électrolyte, nous avons atteint un rendement de conversion en dispositif de 5,76%. Des mesures photophysiques nous ont permis d’avoir une compréhension fine des facteurs limitant l’efficacité de conversion de ces colorants. Fort de ce constat, nous avons amélioré la structure d’une des molécules pour atteindre un rendement de 7,0 %. Nous avons aussi de manière prospective testé différents matériaux alternatifs au système TiO2/iode classiquement utilisé<br>On a global scale, the share of renewable energies in the energy mix is constantly increasing. Based on the principle of photosynthesis, Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells are an emerging technology for Building Integration Photovoltaic (BIPV). These hybrid cells use an inorganic semiconductor oxide whose surface is covered with an organic dye. The absorption of the incident light by this dye will cause the injection of an electron from the photo-excited state of the molecule into the conduction band of the oxide. A redox mediator present in the electrolyte will regenerate the oxidized dye and generate a current under illumination. The dyes already described in the literature shows efficiencies reaching 14%. On the other hand, very few of these materials can absorb up to the near infrared range (NIR) (700-1000 nm). Thereby, the absorption of the NIR spectral range could lead to a greater photo-generated current density. In this context, this work presents a complete study of new panchromatic dyes extending into the near infrared range. For this study, the "donor-acceptor" approach was used to obtain the desired optoelectronic properties. A first family based on benzothiadiazole derivatives has been developed leading to very good absorption properties in the NIR region (absorption up to 925 nm). The optical, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties of these materials have been studied in order to understand the limitations for solar cell applications. Following this, a new dye family based on isoindigo derivatives was synthesized and studied by UV-Visible spectroscopy, electrochemistry and DFT simulation. These compounds strongly absorbs in the UV-visible and NIR spectral range up to 848 nm. The dyeing bath composition and the electrolyte formulation were optimized in order to obtain a device conversion efficiency of 5.76%. Photophysical measurements have allowed us to have a fine understanding of the limiting factors of these dyes. On the basis of this observation, we improved the structure of one of the dye and witg this new molecule we reached a power conversion efficiency of 7.0% with a UV-Visible and near infrared absorption for the solar cell. In the last part of this work we have also obtained preliminary results employing various alternative materials to the TiO2/iodine system

Les effluents industriels sont constitués de molécules de natures très diverses, plus ou moins réfractaires aux classiques traitements biologiques. Les normes de rejets évoluant régulièrement vers des contraintes de plus en plus sévères, il semble aujourd'hui nécessaire de proposer des solutions complémentaires pour atteindre de hauts rendements d'épuration. Le premier procédé mis en oeuvre dans ce travail est l'adsorption sur charbon actif. Le caractère novateur de cette technique se situe dans l'utilisation de charbons actifs fabriqués à partir de boues de stations d'épuration d'eaux usées. La seconde méthode est un procédé hybride innovant combinant adsorption et photocatalyse avec TiO2. Les eaux industrielles ciblées sont les effluents colorés, représentés par la tartrazine, et les effluents phénolés représentés par le phénol, l'acide p-hydroxybenzoïque, le p-chlorophénol er le p-nitrophénol. Pour traiter par adsorption les eaux chargées en phénols, plusieurs charbons actifs commerciaux et six charbons de boues ont été utilisés. Il ressort de cette première étude que, malgré leurs faibles surfaces spécifiques, certains charbons de boues présentent des performances très satisfaisantes. Le procédé séquentiel combinant adsorption et photocatalyse a été réalisé avec plusieurs matériaux: un tissu Ahlstrom contenant du charbon et du TiO2, un charbon actif avec dépôt de TiO2 par MOCVD puis un mélange de charbon actif et TiO2 en poudre. Des résultats prometteurs ont été obtenus pour dégrader la tartrazine, en particulier avec le TiO2 déposé sur charbon actif montrant que la proximité de sites d'adsorption et photocatalytique améliore les performances de l'oxydation<br>In order to explore a new sequential process for water treatment its two steps, adsorption on activated carbon and in situ photocatalytic oxidative regeneration, were investigated successively. Several commercial activated carbons (AC) and sewage sludge based activated carbons (SBAC) were tested with several phenols and one dye as pollutants. Despite low BET surface SBAC exhibits convenient adsorption properties. Photocatalysis on TiO2 was carried out with several materials to achieve activated carbon adsorption- egeneration process: a multilayer tissue with fixed granular AC and TiO2 on a sheet, a composite with TiO2, CVD deposited on AC, and AC-TiO2 powder mixture for comparison. Promising results were obtained especially with TiO2 deposited on AC proving the vicinity of adsorption and photocatalytic sites to be beneficial

Tout au long de cette thèse, de nouveaux colorants organométalliques ont été élaborés dont le but est de les utiliser en tant que photosensibilisateurs au sein des cellules solaires DSSC dont la simplicité de mise en œuvre, le faible coût de production et un design attractif en sont les atouts majeurs. Des analogues du black dye ont dans un premier temps été élaborés, une étude approfondie par des calculs DFT a permis une approche plus constructive sur le choix des designs moléculaires. Des aldéhydes dérivés de la biomasse comme la vanilline, le syringaldéhyde ou le 5-hydroxyméthylfurfural ont permis de substitués le ligand terpyridine par différents groupes (hétéro)aromatiques en position 4’ pour moduler les transferts de charges. Dans un second temps, une chaîne hexyloxyméthyle est introduite en position 4’’ pour diminuer les recombinaisons de charges lors du fonctionnement de la cellule solaire et par la même occasion placer la LUMO plus proche des points d’ancrages pour de meilleures injections de charges vers le semi-conducteur. L’utilisation de groupes cyanoacrylates a aussi été envisagé à la place des acides carboxyliques afin d’obtenir des absorptions plus panchromatiques. Des complexes du type [Ru(tpy)2] et [Ru(tpy)(bpy)NCS] ont également été synthétisés et étudiés pour leur stabilités plus accrues au cours du temps au sein de la cellule solaire par rapport aux complexes à ligands NCS. Certains colorants ont été testés en cellules solaires en combinaison du dioxyde de titane comme semi-conducteur et du couple I3-/I- en tant que médiateur rédox<br>Throughout this thesis, new organometallic dyes have been developed to use them as photosensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), whose simplicity of implementation, low cost production and attractive design are major assets. Black dye analogues were first developed, a thorough study of DFT calculations allowed a more constructive approach to the choice of molecular designs. Biomass-derived aldehydes such as vanillin, syringaldehyde or 5-hydroxymethylfurfural have been used to substitute the terpyridine ligand by different (hetero)aromatic groups in the 4’ position in order to modulate charge transfers. In a second step, a hexyloxymethyl chain was introduced in the 4'' position with the aim of reduce charge recombination during the solar cell operation and in the same time to place the LUMO closer to the anchoring groups for better charge injections to the semiconductor. The use of cyanoacrylate groups was also considered in place of the carboxylic acids in order to obtain more panchromatic absorptions. [Ru(tpy)2] and [Ru(tpy)(bpy)NCS] complexes have also been synthesized and studied for their increased stability over time in the solar cell compared to the NCS ligand complexes. Desde el comienzo de su modernización a finales del siglo XVIII, la Química se ha desarrollado continua y rápidamente a través de la teoría atómico-molecular; sin embargo, esta química del enlace covalente ha sido explotada hasta sus límites conceptuales, de forma que incluso el mejor químico sintético de hoy día no puede fabricar sistemas moleculares complicados usando sólo el repertorio de herramientas disponibles para crear enlaces covalentes. Puesto que el siguiente paso al aumentar el nivel de complejidad hacia los sistemas polimoleculares organizados presentes en los sistemas vivos se encuentra unido a las interacciones no covalentes, es el momento de que los químicos miren más allá de la síntesis clásica hacia la Química Supramolecular, una rama relativamente joven de la ciencia que se preocupa del estudio de las características básicas de estas interacciones no covalentes. Parmi les énergies renouvelables, l’énergie solaire est la plus puissante. L’élément clé des DSSCs est le photosensibiliseur, par lequel la génération de photocourant est possible. L’autre élément important est l’électrolyte. Les liquides ioniques (Ils) sont utilisés en tant qu’électrolytes dans les DSSCs du fait de leurs propriétés chimiques: pression de vapeur basse, haute résistance thermique et chimique, polarité et phase modulables, etc. L’objectif de cette thèse est de comprendre les processus photophysiques dans les colorants dérivés d’indolines dans les solvants moléculaires (MS) et les mélanges IL/MS. L’influence du solvant sur les propriétés spectroscopiques de D131, D102, D149 and D205 est d’abord étudiée par spectroscopie stationnaire d’absorption et de fluorescence. Ensuite, la spectroscopie résolue en temps est employée pour étudier leur photophysique et sa dépendance au solvant. Ces expériences ont permis de démontrer l’influence des paramètres d'aptitude de donneur de liaison hydrogène et d'accepteur de liaison hydrogène des solvants. Le rôle majeur de la dynamique de solvatation dans la dynamique des états excités de ces colorants a été montré. Ce phénomène a été suivi dans les mélanges IL/MS en utilisant une sonde fluorescente classique, C153, et des techniques de fluorescence résolues en temps et de dynamique moléculaire. Les réponses de solvatation multi-régimes de ces mélanges sont dirigées par le renforcement de la liaison hydrogène entre la sonde et les composants des mélanges. Les résultats de cette these apportent beaucoup à la compréhension des processus photophysiques fondamentaux régissant les sensibiliseurs et les électrolytes dans les DSSCs<br>Among all the renewable energy sources, solar energy is the most powerful source far ahead wind or geothermal energies. The first key component of DSSCs is the photosensitizer. It is through this component that the most important steps of photocurrent generation are possible. On the other hand, ionic liquids (ILs) have been proposed as electrolyte for DSSCs due to their peculiar properties: low vapor pressure, high thermal and chemical robustness, tunability of polarity and phase behaviour etc. The objective of this thesis was to get an understanding of the photophysics in the indoline derivated dyes in molecular solvents (MS) and in the IL/MS mixtures. Firstly, the solvent dependence of the spectroscopic properties of D131, D102, D149 and D205 was studied by the steady-state UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. Then, time-resolved spectroscopy was used to elucidate their photophysics and its solvent dependence. These experiments helped to discern the influence of the hydrogen bond donor and acceptor abilities of the solvent. The solvation dynamics was shown to play a major role in the excited state dynamics of these dyes. This process in IL/MS mixtures was elucidated using the classic fluorescent probe C153 by the means of time-resolved spectroscopy and MD simulations. The complex multi-regime solvation response in these systems was shown to be shaped by the strengthening of the hydrogen bonding between the probe and the mixture components. The results of this thesis work contribute to the fundamental understanding of the photodynamics of the sensitizer and the response of the electrolyte used in the DSSCs

Les caoutchoucs, ou plus généralement, les polymères subissent de façon néfaste les agressions du milieu environnant au cours de leur utilisation. Deux facteurs sont connus comme étant parmi les plus importants impliqués lors du vieillissement : l’oxygène atmosphérique et les rayonnements UV-visibles solaire, conduisant au phénomène de photo-oxydation. Sachant que le vieillissement dans ce cas est régi par la pénétration de la lumière et la diffusion de l’oxygène, il y a au cours de l’irradiation formation d’une couche d’oxydation sur les premiers microns de la surface du matériau. L’objectif majeur de cette thèse est de mettre en évidence un lien entre l’évolution de la structure chimique et la perte des propriétés mécaniques dans le cadre de matériaux vulcanisés au cours du photo-vieillissement, en présence de charges telles que le dioxyde de titane et un colorant organique, au moyen d’une approche multi-techniques et multi-échelles.Afin d’y parvenir nous avons tout d’abord simplifié le matériau vulcanisé et nous nous sommes focalisés sur la matrice et les charges. Cette première étape nous a permis de déterminer l’influence des charges sur les mécanismes de photo-oxydation des caoutchoucs non vulcanisés, et nous a servi de base à la compréhension des matériaux vulcanisés plus complexes.Dans la deuxième étude, la caractérisation physico-chimique de la couche dégradée formée au cours de l’irradiation des composites vulcanisés a été effectuée. Nous avons par la suite confronté ces résultats avec la chute des propriétés mécaniques observée au cours du vieillissement. Nous avons ainsi mis en évidence une corrélation directe entre la structure chimique liée aux propriétés de la couche oxydée et la chute des propriétés mécaniques<br>Rubbers or mostly polymers are exposed to different attacks from the surroundings during their uses. Two factors are known to be among the most important involved during aging: atmospheric oxygen and UV-visible radiation from the sun, leading to the phenomenon of photo-oxidation. Photo-ageing is governed by the light penetration and diffusion of oxygen, which involve the formation of an oxidative layer on the first microns at the surface of the material. The main objective of this thesis is to point out the relationship between the changes in the chemical structure due to the formation of the oxidative layer and the loss of mechanical properties during photo-aging of vulcanised rubber in the presence of fillers such as titanium dioxide and organic dye by means of a multi-techniques and multi-scale approach.To achieve this goal, we first simplified the vulcanized material and we focused only on the matrix and fillers. This first step allowed us to determine the influence of fillers on the mechanisms of photo-oxidation of unvulcanised rubber. This study helped to better understand more complex materials such as vulcanised rubbers. In the second study, we focused on the physic-chemical characterization of the degraded layer formed during irradiation of vulcanised rubber. After that, we compared the results with the loss of the mechanical properties observed during aging. This study highlighted a link between the changes of the chemical structure related to the properties of the oxidized layer and the loss of the mechanical properties

L’objectif de la thèse consiste à développer une série des molécules d’architecture en haltère à base de phtalocyanine et à caractère donneur, pour l’élaboration de cellules solaires organiques. Plus particulièrement, les molécules sont des triades entièrement conjuguées, constituées de deux phtalocyanines de zinc séparés par un chromophore rigide de nature variable (un dérivé de benzothiadiazole, d’isoindigo ou de dikétopyrrolopyrrole). Dans ce travail, nous avons cherché à optimiser les modes de synthèse en utilisant différentes réactions de couplages catalysées. Nous avons également cherché à faire varier la nature du cœur et le nombre de chaînes ramifiées périphériques, afin d’étudier leur impact sur les niveaux d’énergie et les propriétés optiques, structurales, de transport de charge et enfin photovoltaïques<br>This work reports a series of dumbbell-shaped molecules based on phthalocyanine with an electro-donating character, to be used in organic solar cells. More particularly, the molecules are fully-conjugated triads, made of two zinc phthalocyanine fragments separated by a rigid central dye of different nature (derivative of benzothiadiazole, isoindigo or diketopyrrolopyrrole). The synthesis of the materials was optimized by varying the type of the cross-coupling reactions. The properties of the molecules (absorption, energy levels, structure, charge transport and photovoltaic) were investigated as function of the nature of the central dye and the peripheral ramified chains on the phthalocyanine fragments

Les travaux de thèse présentés dans ce mémoire ont ciblé trois familles de molécules π-conjuguées et s’inscrivent plus particulièrement dans le développement de la chimie des amino-azacalixarènes et des dérivés de phénazine, et d’une nouvelle classe de tétraazamacrocycles aromatiques appelés « azacalixphyrine ». Ces composés étant émergents dans la littérature, nous avons volontairement porté nos efforts sur la synthèse et la compréhension de ces nouveaux systèmes π-conjugués afin d’élaborer de nouvelles voies de synthèse mais aussi, le cas échéant, d’établir des relations structure / propriétés. L’accès synthétique à ces composés est basé sur des réactions de substitutions nucléophiles aromatiques. De nouveaux outils moléculaires sont ainsi proposés pour différentes applications dans le domaine de l’énergie, des matériaux et/ou de la santé<br>The thesis work deals with three families of π-conjugated molecules and particularly focuses on amino-azacalixarenes and phenazine derivatives as well as a new class of aromatic tetraazamacrocycles named “azacalixphyrin”. Since these compounds are emerging in the literature, we have deliberately focused our efforts on their synthesis and on the physico-chemical studies of these new π-conjugated systems in order to, when it is appropriate, establish structure / properties relationships. The synthetic accesses to these compounds are mainly based on aromatic nucleophilic substitutions. Afin d'interpreter les resultats, mise au point d'un 1er modele assimilant le niveau excite a un continuum d'etats vibrationnels, calcul considere comme etape preliminaire d'un calcul plus sophistique. Elaboration d'un 2eme modele decrivant l'action d'une excitation non lineaire sur un systeme a 2 niveaux en prenant en consideration les effets de bord des bande et d'ecart a la resonance. 2 valeurs du parametre t2 en fonction de la temperature sont deduites

[EN] In this Doctoral Thesis the reactivity of a group of emerging pollutants (EP) present in the output waters of urban treatment plants and the implementation of a photo-Fenton process in slightly acidic pH conditions using bio-organic solubles (SBO) as auxiliary chemicals have been studied. First, a mechanistic study was performed to investigate the role played by various reactive species in the oxidation of a mixture of emerging pollutants generated photochemically through advanced oxidation processes. These oxidizing species are the hydroxyl radical (OH), singlet oxygen (1O2) and the excited states of photocatalysts able to act through electron transfer processes. Results show that the EP degradation from the photo-Fenton process is too complex to be explained exclusively by the direct reaction of radical OH¿. More likely, OH radical reacts with further species present in the medium, so that long-lived radicals are generated and contribute to the degradation of EP or participate in chain processes. Rose bengal, known 1O2 generator, showed very low reactivity with EP under photochemical conditions. This fact together with the low values obtained for the rate constants in the reaction of 1O2 with EP, indicate that degradation of EP with singlet oxygen at these concentrations is very inefficient. Electron transfer processes studied using triphenylpyrylium (TPP+) and triphenylthiopyrylium (TPTP+) showed that degradation of EP were produced through the excited singlet and triplet states of the photocatalysts, slightly higher results were obtained by using the TPTP+. SBO, isolated from the wet fraction of municipal waste, are formed by a mixture of macromolecules with a wide range of sizes that goes from 67 to 463 kgmol-1. Furthermore, chemical composition of SBO resembles that of natural organic matter that has been employed in solar photochemical processes for wastewater treatment. Characterization of SBO has shown that these substances are biocompatible, stable after 24 hours of irradiation and able to improve the efficiency of photo-Fenton under slightly acidic pH. The results obtained in the optimization of the operational variables of the photo-Fenton process in the presence of SBO suggest that the mechanism of this process has changed, so that the optimum pH value of 2,8 has shifted to values close to 4. Therefore, the hydroxyl radical is not the main specie but others species could play a role; however they have not been unequivocally identified due to the complexity process. Moreover, SBO are able to generate reactive species; however their efficiency depends on the balance between the generation of reactive species and the inner filter effect produced by the deep color of SBO and also by the competition for the generated reactive species between SBO and the pollutants<br>[ES] En la presente Tesis Doctoral se estudió la reactividad de un conjunto de contaminantes emergentes (CE) presentes en aguas naturales de salida de depuradoras urbanas y la posibilidad de implementar un proceso foto-Fenton en condiciones de pH ligeramente ácidas empleando sustancias solubles bio-orgánicas (SBO) como auxiliares químicos. En primer lugar se realizó un estudio mecanístico para indagar sobre el papel desarrollado por diversas especies reactivas, generadas fotoquímicamente mediante procesos de oxidación avanzada, en la oxidación de una mezcla de contaminantes emergentes. Entre estas especies oxidantes se encuentra el radical hidroxilo (OH.), el oxígeno singlete (1O2), y los estados excitados de los fotocatalizadores capaces de actuar en procesos de transferencia electrónica. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que el proceso de degradación de los CE mediante foto-Fenton es demasiado complejo para poder ser explicado únicamente mediante la reacción directa del radical OH. Posiblemente, tras ser generado, el radical OH reacciona con las especies presentes en el medio de forma que se generan radicales de vida larga que contribuyen a la degradación de los CE o bien inicia procesos en cadena. El rosa de bengala, conocido generador de 1O2, mostró muy baja reactividad con los CE en condiciones fotoquímicas. Este hecho unido a los bajos valores obtenidos para las constantes de reacción del 1O2 con los CE, nos indica que la degradación mediante reacción con oxígeno singlete a estas concentraciones es muy ineficiente. Los estudios de los procesos de transferencia electrónica empleando trifenilpirilio (TPP+) y trifeniltiopirilio (TPTP+) muestran que la degradación de los CE se produce desde los estados excitados singlete y triplete de los fotocatalizadores, obteniéndose unos resultados ligeramente superiores mediante el empleo del TPTP+. Los SBO son materiales extraídos de la fracción húmeda de los residuos urbanos. Estas sustancias están constituidas por una mezcla de macromoléculas con un amplio rango de tamaños que oscila de 67 a 463 kgmol-1. Además su composición química presenta similitudes estructurales con algunas sustancias que se encuentran en la materia orgánica natural y que han sido empleadas en procesos fotoquímicos solares para el tratamiento de aguas residuales. La caracterización de los SBO ha demostrado que estas sustancias son biocompatibles, estables tras 24 horas de irradiación y capaces de mejorar la eficiencia del foto-Fenton en condiciones de pH ligeramente ácidas. Los resultados obtenidos en la optimización de las variables operacionales en el proceso foto-Fenton en presencia de SBO sugieren que se ha producido una modificación en el mecanismo del proceso foto-Fenton de forma que se ha desplazado el valor óptimo de pH desde 2,8 a valores cercanos a 4. Por tanto el radical hidroxilo puede no ser la especie principal y entrar en juego otras especies que no han podido ser identificadas con certeza debido a la complejidad del proceso. Los SBO son capaces de generar especies reactivas, sin embargo se ha de llegar a un equilibrio entre la generación de especies reactivas y el efecto filtro producido por su acusada coloración, así como por la competencia de los propios SBO por las especies reactivas generadas.<br>[CAT] En la present Tesi Doctoral es va estudiar la reactivitat d'un conjunt de contaminants emergents (CE) presents en aigües d'eixida de depuradores urbanes i la possibilitat d'implementar un procés foto-Fenton en condicions de pH lleugerament àcides emprant substàncies solubles bio-orgàniques (SBO) com auxiliars químics. En primer lloc es va realitzar un estudi mecanístic per indagar sobre el paper desenvolupat per diverses espècies reactives, generades fotoquímicament mitjançant processos d'oxidació avançada, en l'oxidació d'una mescla de contaminants emergents. Entre aquestes espècies oxidants es troba el radical hidroxil (OH), l'oxigen singlet (1O2), i els estats excitats dels fotocatalitzadors capaços de actuar per processos de transferència electrònica. Els resultats obtinguts mostren que el procés de degradació dels CE mitjançant foto-Fenton és massa complex per poder ser explicat únicament per la reacció directa del radical OH. Possiblement després de ser generat, el radical OH reacciona amb les espècies presents en el medi de manera que es generen radicals de vida llarga que contribueixen a la degradació dels CE o bé inicia processos en cadena. El rosa de bengala, conegut generador de 1O2, va mostrar molt baixa reactivitat amb els CE en condicions fotoquímiques. Aquest fet unit als baixos valors obtinguts per a les constants de reacció del 1O2 amb els CE, ens indica que la degradació mitjançant reacció amb oxigen singlet a aquestes concentracions és molt ineficient. La caracterització dels SBO ha demostrat que aquestes substàncies són biocompatibles, estables després de 24 hores d'irradiació i son capaços de millorar l'eficiència del foto-Fenton en condicions lleugerament àcides. Photocatalytic processes over semiconducting oxide surfaces have attracted worldwide attention aspotentially efficient, environmentally friendly and low cost methods for water/air purification as well as forrenewable hydrogen production. However, some limitations to achieve high photocatalytic efficiencies havebeen found due to the fast recombination of the charge carriers. Development of heterostucture photocatalystsby depositing metals on the surface of semiconductors or by coupling two semiconductors with suitable bandedge position can reduce recombination phenomena by vectorial transfer of charge carriers. To draw newprospects in this domain, three different kinds of heterostructures such as n-type/n-type semiconductor(SnO2/ZnO), metal/n-type semiconductor (RuO2/TiO2 and RuO2/ZnO) and p-type/n-type semiconductor(NiO/TiO2) heterojunction nanomaterials were successfully prepared by solution process. Their composition,texture, structure and morphology were thoroughly characterized by FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Ramanspectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N2 sorption measurements. On the other hand, asuitable combination of UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) data provided the energy band diagram for eachsystem. The as-prepared heterojunction photocatalysts showed higher photocatalytic efficiency than P25 TiO2for the degradation of organic dyes (i.e. methylene blue and methyl orange) and the production of hydrogen.Particularly, heterostructure RuO2/TiO2 and NiO/TiO2 nanocomposites with optimum loading of RuO2 (5 wt %)and NiO (1 wt %), respectively, yielded the highest photocatalytic activities for the production of hydrogen.These enhanced performances were rationalized in terms of suitable band alignment as evidenced by XPS/UPSmeasurements along with their good textural and structural properties. This concept of semiconductingheterojunction nanocatalysts with high photocatlytic activity should find industrial application in the future toremove undesirable organics from the environment and to produce renewable hydrogen.

Une nouvelle famille de complexes de difluorure de bore photosensibles est développée. Elle est basée sur des structures moléculaires contenant une unité β-dicétone à conjugaison électronique π.La grande variété de groupements aromatiques et la nature donneur ou accepteur d'électrons des différents substituants permet l'élaboration de systèmes électroniques donneur-accepteur-donneur d'électrons (D1-A-D1) et donneur-accepteur (D2-A).L'absorption électronique de cette famille de molécule se situe dans la partie visible du spectre électromagnétique et une partie du spectre ultraviolet, et est caractérisée par une bande d'absorption π-π* intense avec des coefficients d'absorption molaire supérieurs à 50 000 M-1cm-1.L'émission de fluorescence couvre une plage spectrale qui va du visible au proche infrarouge avec des rendements quantiques de fluorescence en solution relativement élevés pouvant atteindre 62 %.En fin, cette famille de molécule est photochimiquement stable et est, contrairement à d'autres familles de complexes de difluorure de bore, chimiquement très stable en solution.Mots-clés : Difluorure de bore, β-dicétone, matériaux π-conjugués, luminescence, fluorescence stationnaire et résolue dans le temps (TRES), synthèse organique, RMN-19F dynamique, complexes &amp; colorants fluorescents, curcumine &amp; curcuminoide, complexe BF2, photophysique<br>A new photosensitive family of boron difluoride complex is developed. It is based on π-conjugated molecular structures containing β-diketonates unit.The wide variety of aromatic groups and the nature of donor or electron acceptor of the different substituents allow the development of electron donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) and donor-acceptor (DA) electronic systems.The electronic absorption of this family of molecules is in the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum and a portion of the ultraviolet spectrum, and is characterized by an intense π-π* absorption band with molar absorption coefficient greater than 50 000 M-1.cm-1.The fluorescence emission covers a spectral range going from visible to near infrared, with relatively high fluorescence quantum yields of up to 62 % in solution.This new material family is photochemically stable and, unlike some other families of boron difluoride complexes, chemically very stable in solution

Nous avons construit des lasers qui ont servi a des experiences de melange a quatres ondes (reseau transitoire). Nous avons d'abord etudie la reponse non lineaire du troisieme ordre lorsque le milieu presente un continuum large d'etats (colorants). Le signal obtenu sur le cresyl-violet en film mince de colle cellulosique a ete analyse. La technique du reseau transitoire a ete ensuite utilisee pour caracteriser la dynamique de molecules dans un milieu poreux (vycor) et etudier la geometrie des connexions entre pores. Nous avons etudie la rotation de l'azobenzene en solution soit libre soit contenue a l'interieur de l'espace poreux. Ces experiences peuvent etre realisees sur des echelles allant de la femtoseconde a la seconde, permettant ainsi l'etude tant du temps de coherence que des proprietes de diffusion des materiaux

Ce travail de thèse s'inscrit dans le cas d'un projet européen nommé " microfluiD ". Ce projet vise principalement la détection des polluants organiques par voie microfluidique (les micotoxines dans les aliments de bétail, les bactéries et les métaux lourds). Devant les dangers écologiques des ions Pb2+, Hg2+ et Cd2+ dans l'environnement, il est important de multiplier le nombre d'analyses dans les eaux du robinet. L'utilisation de la fluorescence et des microlasers organiques présente de nombreux avantages. Outre leur faible coût, leur sensibilité ainsi que leur sélectivité, il est possible de concevoir à partir de ces techniques des dispositifs transportables sur le terrain. Deux approches sont principalement développées : Une première est basée sur la fluorescence ; elle a consisté à synthétiser des ligands fluorescents de type DPPS-PEG et CalixDANS-3-OH pour la détection du mercure et du plomb. Les études de la complexation des ions Hg2+, Pb2+ ont d'abord été effectuées en solution. La complexation de Cd2+ en circuit microfluidique à partir du composé commercial Rhod-5N a aussi été étudiée. Des résultats très prometteurs ont été obtenus pour la détection de Hg2+ par DPPS-PEG. Nous avons aussi étudié la possibilité de détecter Pb2+ à partir du CalixDANS-3-OH greffé sur les parois du circuit microfluidique. Malgré une dégradation de la sonde, nous avons réussi à détecter une faible concentration de plomb. Une très bonne sélectivité vis-à-vis des cations interférents testés a été obtenue. La seconde approche est basée sur la détection par microlasers. Nous avons synthétisé deux copolymères blocs pour la détection du plomb et du mercure. Des problèmes de solubilité nous empêchant de fabriquer des microcavités organiques à partir de ces polymères, une deuxième stratégie consistant à greffer les ligands spécifiques de Pb2+ et de Hg2+ sur les microcavités laser PMMA a été développée. Cette dernière nous a permis d'apporter une preuve de principe pour de la détection du mercure en fonctionnalisant le mercaptopropyltriéthoxysilane à la surface du PMMA. Ce travail nous a aussi amené à synthétiser des colorants laser à base de Bodipy pour la fabrication des microcavités lasers par polymérisation à deux photons (2PP).

碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>高分子科學與工程學研究所<br>99<br>Organic colorants are essential for production of paints, inks and toners etc. The reduction of particle size would improve the stability, color strength, contrast, and transmittance. In this study, we apply two microemulsion systems (o/w、w/o) incorporated with temperature changing process and solvent diffusion process to micronize and disperse four colorants: Disperse Red 60、Pigment Red 177、Pigment Green 36、Pigment Blue 15:6. Based on the scanning electron microscope (SEM) results, the sizes of disperse red 60 were dramatically reduced to 3.5*1(length*width)~5*1μm and 2*0.6~5*1.3μm by temperature changing process in water / Benzyl alcohol / SDS and DMSO / Cyclohexane / AOT system respectively, which the size of the original was about 80*15-200*30μm. However, the crystal morphology remained rod-like. The transmittance profiles refered that re-crystallized particles gained remarkably transmittance enhancement compared to that of the suppplied one. In solvent diffusion process, components of three phases were changed to water / Benzyl alcohol / SDS＝10/10.5/5 (wt%). Sizes of particles tended to be larger from slow adding rate：10*6~30*10μm (50g/35mins)、15*2~40*4μm (100g/35mins)。 Partice sizes of pigment red 177 were reduced from 269.7nm to 201nm after processing with DMSO / AOT / Heptane microemulsion. For pigment green 36 in w/o microemulsions at four different temperatures (25℃、40℃、60℃、80℃), it was found that particles tended to aggregate as temperature increased. The results at 25℃ were listed below. Changes of particle sizes after 0、1、3、6 days of dispersion for each system are DMSO / AOT / Heptane：214.7、210.9、234.4、263.1(nm) and DMSO / AOT / Cyclohexane：261.6、281.5、279.2、296.4(nm) whereas sizes of the original pigment were 297.2、282.5、316.7、457.9(nm). These results have proved that the microemulsion method could efficiently make pigment particles dispersed. In addition, we tried to disperse pigment particles in microemulsions with variable surfactant concentrations. And similar transmittance results of pigment blue 15:6 were obtained in DMSO / AOT / Isooctane system (wt%：2/28/20、2/28/30). At 500nm wavelength, the transmittance was about 98.9% which is 20.0-20.2% raised from the original one (80.9%).

Objectos modernos e contemporâneos feitos de plástico são amplamente encontrados no património cultural. Presentemente, a sua preservação levanta questões críticas aos conservadores e cientistas uma vez que estes objectos podem facilmente sofrer degradação num curto espaço de tempo. Um dos fenómenos que pode alterar significativamente a aparência de objectos em plástico é a alteração de cor (descoloração). De um modo geral, a descoloração é habitualmente associada à degradação dos polímeros, contudo, os pigmentos, que são parte integrante das formulações do plástico, também podem desvanecer devido à exposição à luz. A identificação de objetos de plástico com pigmentos sensíveis à luz é um exercício bastante exigente devido à sensibilidade dos mesmos a alterações na cor. A caracterização dos corantes nos plásticos é normalmente realizada através de amostragem, métodos de extração e testagem destrutiva. Como alternativa, esta tese apresenta uma abordagem inovadora e multi- analítica baseada em espectroscopias que foi desenvolvida para a identificação in situ dos pigmentos em plásticos históricos. Esta metodologia compreendeu a utilização de microscopia ótica (MO), microespectrometria por fluorescência de raios X dispersiva de energias (μ-EDXRF), espectroscopia UV-Vis-NIR de reflectância, fotoluminescência (PL) e micro-espectroscopia de Raman (μ-Raman) na análise de obras de arte, objetos industriais e de uso diário, datados de 1950-2000s e pertencentes a coleções Portuguesas. Deste estudo resultou a identificação dos pigmentos comumente presentes na paleta de cor dos coloristas da indústria dos plásticos portuguesa: óxido de ferro (PR 101, α-Fe2O3), molibdato de cromato de chumbo (PR 104, Pb(Cr,Mo,S)O4), vermelho de cádmio (PR 108, Cd(S,Se); PR 113, (Cd,Hg)S), amarelo de cádmio (PY 37, CdS; PY 35; (Cd,Zn)S), branco de titânio (PW 6, TiO2 ambos rutilo e anátase), oxicloreto de bismuto (PW 14, BiOCl) e lacas do pigmento orgânico β-naftol (PR 48, PR 49, PR 53). Adicionalmente, foi também identificado um pigmento fora do comum, o pigmento perlascente plumbonacrite Pb5(CO3)3O(OH)2. Para todos os casos de estudo, μ-Raman foi a ferramenta chave para a caracterização dos pigmentos nos objetos de plástico, aportando dados conclusivos para a identificação dos mesmos. A impressão digital vibracional dos pigmentos orgânicos e inorgânicos foi adquirida com sucesso recorrendo à focagem do laser na superfície das partículas. A aquisição de dados espectrais de pigmentos com concentrações muito baixas (0.1 % a 5%, aproximadamente) à escala micro foi possível através de microscopia confocal, que faz parte do sistema do equipamento de μ-Raman. Adicionalmente, foi também possível obter informação sobre o polímero base (principalmente termoplásticos) e cargas. Os métodos analíticos desenvolvidos neste estudo deverão, em trabalhos futuros, facilitar a obtenção de informação complementar sobre estes objetos de plástico e permitir uma melhor identificação e avaliação do seu estado de conservação. Esta tese foca particularmente objectos de plástico vermelhos visto que estes foram identificados como os mais severamente afetados por alterações de cor. O estado avançado de desvanecimento identificado no pigmento β-naftol PR 53 mostrou a sua fraca estabilidade à luz em formulações de plástico. Esta situação, junto com as alterações de cor descritas em literatura para o pigmento PR 48 em objetos de plástico, sugere uma sensibilidade dos pigmentos vermelhos da família dos β-naftol ao desvanecimento. O PR 53 e os pigmentos vermelhos da família dos β-naftóis são pigmentos históricos facilmente encontrados em objetos do património cultural. No entanto, o conhecimento acerca da sua estabilidade a longo prazo e resistência à foto-degradação é limitado, especialmente para os casos onde os mesmos se encontram em polímeros, sendo que este conhecimento é essencial para a sua preservação. Neste estudo, a quantificação da foto-estabilidade para uma série de pigmentos vermelhos da família dos β-naftol foi realizada pela primeira vez, através do cálculo do rendimento quântico de fotodegradação (ΦR). Os valores obtidos variaram entre 3x10-6 e 4x10-5, indicativo de uma estabilidade relativamente boa à luz por parte das moléculas. Tendo em consideração que a estabilidade dos pigmentos não se limita exclusivamente ao pigmento em si, mas também à sua interação com o meio envolvente, foram realizados ensaios de envelhecimento por exposição à luz (λ>300 nm) do pigmento em solução, em pó e incorporado em polímeros de modo a avaliar o papel do meio na estabilidade à luz dos pigmentos e as vias pelas quais estes se degradam. Verificou-se que o ligante tem um impacto significativo na estabilidade do pigmento uma vez que se foi detetada uma maior sensibilidade à luz dos pigmentos PR 48 e PR 53 quando incorporados nos plásticos, comparativamente ao ensaio do pigmento em pó. Este novo conhecimento irá contribuir para o desenvolvimento de novas estratégias na conservação dos plásticos com estes pigmentos vermelhos fotossensíveis através da previsão do desvanecimento. Espectrometrias de massa (MS) por cromatografia em fase líquida e gasosa foram utilizadas na caracterização dos principais subprodutos da degradação. Observou-se uma fotodegradação significativa e a formação de compostos ftálicos e ftalatos nos pigmentos em solução e em pó.<br>Modern and contemporary objects made of plastics are widely found in cultural heritage. Today, their preser- vation poses critical issues to conservators and scientists, as they can suffer from extensive degradation in a short time period. Color change (discoloration) is one of the alteration phenomena that can significantly affect their appearance. Discoloration is commonly associated with the degradation of polymers. However, pigments within plastics can also fade due to exposure to light. The identification of objects that contain light-sensitive pigments is demanding because of the sensitivity of plastics to color change. Normally sampling, extraction methods and destructive testing are required for the characterization of colorants in plastics. In this work, an innovative multi-analytical spectroscopic approach for the in situ identification of pigments in historical plastics was developed. Optical microscopy (MO), micro-energy dispersive X-ray fluo- rescence (μ-EDXRF), UV-Vis-NIR reflectance, photoluminescence (PL) and Raman microscopy (μ-Raman), were used for the analysis of artworks, industrial and daily objects dated from 1950s-2000s from Portuguese collections. A common colorists’ palette within the Portuguese plastics industry was identified: iron oxide (PR 101, α-Fe2O3), lead chromate molybdate (PR 104, Pb(Cr,Mo,S)O4), cadmium red (PR 108, Cd(S,Se); PR 113, (Cd,Hg)S) and cadmium yellow (PY 37, CdS; PY 35; (Cd,Zn)S) pigments, titanium whites (PW 6, TiO2 both rutile and anatase), bismuth oxychloride (PW 14, BiOCl) and organic β-naphthol lakes (PR 48, PR 49, PR 53). An exceptional pigment found was the pearlescent plumbonacrite pigment Pb5(CO3)3O(OH)2. In all the case studies, μ-Raman was the key analytical tool for pigment characterization in the plastic objects, providing conclusive data for their identification. The vibrational fingerprint of both inorganic and organic pigments was successfully recorded by focusing the laser beam on particle surfaces. The confocal microscopy system used in μ-Raman enabled the collection of spectral data from low concentrations of pigments (ap- proximately 0.1%-5%) on the micro-scale. In addition to pigments, information on the base polymer (mainly thermoplastics) and fillers was obtained. The analytical methods developed will facilitate the acquisition of complementary data from plastics allowing material identification and condition assessment in the future. This thesis focused on red pigmented plastic artifacts, as they were found to be severely faded among the studied objects. The identification of β-naphthol pigment lake PR 53 as a faded pigment highlighted its poor fastness in plastics, that together with the color change of PR 48 in plastic objects, reported in literature, suggests the particular susceptibility of β-naphthol red lakes to fading. PR 53, and the other β-naphthol reds, are historical pigments widely found in cultural heritage. However, little is known about their photodegradation and stability, especially when they are found in polymer media, and this knowledge is essential for their long- term preservation. For the first time, photodegradation quantum yields (ΦR) were calculated for a series of red pigments based on β-naphthol in order to quantify their photo-stability. ΦR values ranging from 3x10-6 to 4x10-5 were obtained, indicating relatively light-stable molecules. Bearing in mind that pigment fastness is not only related to the pigment itself, but also to its interaction with the confined environment, light-aging experiments (λ>300 nm) were conducted in solution, on powders, and in polymers to assess the role of the medium on the lightfastness of the pigments and their degradation pathways. A significant impact of the binder on their stability was found. Indeed, a higher sensitivity to light of PR 48 and PR 53 pigments, when incorporated in plastics than in powder, was observed. This new knowledge will contribute to the prediction of plastic fading and inform effective preventive conservation strategies for objects containing light- sensitive β-naphthol red pigments. Liquid- and gas-chromatography mass spectrometry (MS) were used for the characterization of the main degradation products. Extensive photodegradation was observed with the formation of phthalic compounds and phthalates in both solution and powder phases.

The structure-activity relationship between the amine of perimidine and this visible-light-mediated oxidation was investigated. Our studies suggest that this oxidation reaction can only occur when the amino group on perimidine is a secondary amine and has no electron-withdrawing substituent attached to it. Also, a novel benzoxazole-based photochromic colorant 77 was designed and synthesized via a microwave-promoted reaction. When dissolved in methylene chloride, compound 77 is yellow and highly fluorescent, it turns purple and non-fluorescent upon UV irradiation (254 nm). The photogenerated product can revert back to 77 when either being heated or exposed to light with a longer wavelength. The UV-vis spectra suggest that there is an intramolecular charge transfer between the donor aniline and the acceptor o-nitrophenyl group.

Rational design of a triketone-derived acidichromic and solvatochromic colorant Two unique properties of triketone (2-acylcyclohexane-1,3-dione) derivatives, that is, sensitive to both pH and solvents, have been successfully applied in design and synthesis of a novel acidichromic and solvatofluorochromic colorant. Under neutral conditions, compound 3 is orange red due to the highly conjugated system, however, it turns to yellow when a base (NaOMe) is added and changes to colorless when exposed to gaseous hydrochloric acid. Furthermore, compound 3 also displays solvatochromic and solvatofluorochromic properties in solvents with different polarities. Part II. Design and Synthesis of a potential coumarin derived organic emitting diode (OLED) material The coumrarin-based heterocyclic compound A has been chemically synthesized in 6 steps with the overall yield of 23%. The key step involved 4,5 and 6. This compound displays good photoluminescence with a green-blue light which has the potential to server as an organic light emitting diode (OLED) dopent.
