Abstract:
Over the last three decades, most community colleges have broadened their economic development role to include contracting with employers to train current or prospective employees in job and academic skills. This article describes the main contours of the community college's involvement in contract training, explains how this involvement arose, and analyzes its impact on the community college. This analysis is based both on national data on the general prevalence and form of contract training and on case studies of the forms it takes in twenty community colleges in five states servicing five quite different industries. Contract training is sometimes quite elaborate, as in the case of the entry-level training of skilled workers in auto manufacturing, auto repair, and construction. Here the training often involves multiyear apprenticeships, combining both classroom and on-the-job training, with labor unions exercising a major role. But contract training often is much briefer and dominated by the wishes of companies. The origins of contract training lie in a combination both of business pressure and of initiative by community colleges and government bodies pursuing interests and values of their own. Contract training has broadly affected community colleges in such areas as enrollments, revenues, external relations, governance, internal relations, curriculum and pedagogy, and institutional mission. It has brought more students, revenues, and political clout, but also greater business involvement in community college governance and possibly a major redefinition of institutional mission away from education (especially transfer education) toward training.

Abstract:
At present, domestic college experimental teaching plays an irreplaceable role in the cultivation of high-quality talents. Especially for the training of international business talents, due to the complexity of international trade business processes, the establishment of relevant international business simulation experiments can help students master the international trade business processes and be familiar with the practical operations of all aspects of international trade business. Therefore, international business experimental teaching has become the main means for colleges and universities to cultivate high-quality applied talents in the field of international business. The improvement and innovation of international business experiments are of great significance to improve the training level of international business talents in colleges and universities and to cultivate high-quality business talents adapted to the modern market competition environment. This project aims to use collaborative enterprise resources and technological advantages to promote the construction of international business experimental teaching platforms under the new liberal arts background, and improve the quality of application-oriented talents.

Abstract:
Community colleges play an important role in assisting local business and industry by providing a variety of training programs for employees, including short-term programs. These contract training programs often receive public subsidies as an economic development incentive, and despite their popularity, relatively little is known about their structure, frequency of offerings, and challenges that face them. The purpose for conducting the current study was to profile and inventory these community college contract training offices. A survey was administered to a sample of 250 contract training administrators. Findings include a description of who these administrators report to, the experiences that prepared them for their positions, the typical number of programs they offer each year, how they recruit business participation, and the challenges they report facing the most frequently. These findings are important to policy makers, administrators, and scholars as they create a baseline understanding of how these programs are embedded in and represent their colleges.

Abstract:
‘For many colleges, business as usual will mean no business with business.’ The old notion that distinct boundaries exist between the world of education and the world of commerce no longer applies. Increasingly, each is taking on part of the other's traditional role. Carol Aslanian, drawing on her experiences as Director of Adult Learning Services for The College Board in the USA, sets out the new cultural and attitudinal approaches that must be put into practice if industry and education are to cooperate fruitfully in the field of education and training. She focuses on the characteristics of the organization as ‘student’, the competition offered to colleges by companies' own in-house training courses and resources, and the ways in which colleges need to adapt if they are to keep a foot in the door of corporate education.

Abstract:
In order to test the efficiency of colleges and universities to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship education and cultivate the innovative talent system required by economic and social development and change, this paper proposes to combine the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method based on the analytic hierarchy process. First, gather the students’ ideas, then create a set of measures for each measure, count the weight and significance of each measure, and create a set of criteria for the assessment of the educational process of innovation and entrepreneurship. Census of colleges and universities’ innovation and business measurement model based on student perceptions and determining the weight of each measurement scale will help students understand what is more important in evaluating college and universities’ innovation and business education. Other metrics include innovation and training market, it needs approach, design industry analysis examines business, opportunities for school-to-business engagement, innovation, business education, training, entrepreneurship, and platform information. Therefore, in order to improve the innovation and business education of colleges and universities, it is necessary to carefully establish school management, faculty, classes, activities, innovation, business platform, business education environment, support, advocacy mechanism, and so on. We will improve the teaching of innovation and entrepreneurship and focus on training faculty of innovation and business education and focus on strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship information platform, innovation, and entrepreneurship incubation base.

Abstract:
The perceptions of both students and teachers are vital to improve performance and to ensure a positive teaching and learning climate at a college. This study examines the perceptions of staff at three recently merged campuses and students regarding student performance. The research focuses specifically on the performance of students registered for the Small Business Management N3 and NSC (National Senior Certificate) curriculum. A combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods was employed to investigate the desired result. Staff teaching the subject (Small Business Management) were given semi-structured interviews, while students who are currently studying the subject were given questionnaires to complete. Data was collected and analysed. This study reveals amongst other findings that management in FET institutions needs to take cognisance of the perceptions of staff and students regarding the improvement of student performance. Opinions, attitudes, insights and recommendations expressed concerning student performance can help institutions improve their culture of teaching and learning.

Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2000.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Nampak is the industry leader in the paper and packaging industry. There are over 20 divisions which fall under the Nampak banner, supplying a diverse range of primarily packaging material, from plastic carrier bags to glass bottles. A few years ago top management realised the need to move the Nampak group into the realm of world class. This paradigm shift required a substantial education and training initiative, and so the Nampak "Colleges" were created to support and underpin the World Class Manufacturing & Services ethic that each and every division would adhere to. All Nampak training interventions or processes are based on experiential learning. Candidates are introduced to concepts and theory, given opportunities to analyse case studies, conduct plant-level audits and give feedback to the general managers of the plants. In addition each delegate is given a project to be completed in the work place. The aim of this research is to assess the effectiveness of the Nampak WCM&S College 5 using an evaluation framework. The literature was reviewed in order to: • develop an evaluation framework; • establish an evaluation process; • facilitate the construction of a relevant test format. The test instrument was designed based on the principles of test construction and Kirkpatrick's model for evaluation. Data was collected for pre and post-tests for phase 2 and phase 3, analysed using descriptive statistics and reported on at the beginning at each phase as well as at the Trade Show. The evaluation results proved to be very positive and the evaluation process was incorporated into the design of all future College interventions.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research was to determine whether the situational, institutional, dispositional, epistemological, and technological barriers that affect attrition in distance education apply to the business-based distance training arena. Although reports about distance training students indicate that attrition from distance training is a significant issue, the results from this study find that 90 percent of the business professionals who answered this survey that have taken business-based e-learning courses are not discontinuing their e-learning courses. This finding contradicts many published articles. The free-form comments written by the online learners who answered this survey provided some hints as to what may be keeping these business professionals from abandoning their e-learning courses. The respondents to this study acknowledge that interaction with other learners and with course facilitators, chunking of courses and curricula into appropriate sized pieces, technical support, good course design, and incentives to reach course or curriculum completion have kept them online.

Abstract:
To develop holistic review processes, admission professionals are changing the ways they structure applications for undergraduate admissions. This study examines how the Stephen M. Ross School of Business (Ross School) at the University of Michigan requests, collects, and reviews portfolios of student work along with traditional application materials. The first section presents the rationale for the new holistic review process, the second shares insights it provides the Ross School, and the third details how admission professionals at the Ross School built it. The case illuminates the use of student-generated portfolios as one possible model for other higher education systems seeking to evolve their holistic admission processes.
