Abstract:
As part of an advanced doctoral course on representing qualitative research, the authors used collage to represent either who they were as researcher or the research they were conducting. The authors, comprised of the course professor and seven doctoral students, read about collage as inquiry and research representation and then participated reflexively in a course lecture on the background of collage, a collage creation activity, a gallery walk, written and oral reflection on each other’s collages, a research poster presentation at a campus research event, and a final reflection of the entire process. As the process unfolded the authors represented the experience in the form of a collective collage poem, and a methodological and pedagogical article. Elements of this article include a review of collage as an art and research inquiry form, an overview of the pedagogical experiences, and the authors’ experiences shared in the form of brief vignettes and collage images.

Abstract:
The important teacher's role as a facilitator in teaching college in elementary schools is to facilitate the development of students' creativity and understanding. The purpose of this article is to investigate the teacher's role as a facilitator in teaching college in elementary schools and identify approaches, strategies, and best practices in facilitating effective college learning. The research method used in this study was interviews with five teachers and an analysis of the relevant literature. The results of the study show that the facilitator's approach is very important in directing students in the creative process and exploring collage techniques. Effective strategies and practices include providing concrete examples, using step-by-step guides, and engaging students in reflection and discussion regarding their collage work. This study also revealed that teaching collage can improve students' understanding and skills in the art of collage and has a positive impact on students' self-confidence. This article provides practical guidance for teachers in teaching college in elementary schools, encourages the development of student's artistic potential, and establishes the teacher's role as an effective facilitator.

Abstract:
With an eye to the workings of collage – in particular its prophetic temporality – I explore the collage practice of the Australian poet Bella Li, with a focus on her second book, Lost Lake (2018). Taking my cue from movements of broken or disjunctive association in Li’s work, I seek to mirror Li’s poetic collages with a reading that is itself both exploratory and associative. Beginning by commenting on the circularity of collage, this article itself becomes a kind of collage. Li’s surrealist practice, layering evocative object (word, image, idea) over evocative object, instigates a chain of associations. Via such sequences’ ellipses and associative chains, Li writes poetry as transtemporal collage, as a surrealist dream, and as prophecy of what was and is and is yet to come.

Abstract:
This article reports on collage as a pedagogical practice to support teacher candidate reflection. We outline a multi-step collage-based reflection workshop that was part of a required course on “Inquiries Into Learning.” The summative collage project was designed to help teacher candidates reflect on their vision of learning (hope) and their fears and doubts as beginning teachers. The process and product of their final integrated collage led students to interrogate how their hopes and fears mingle together in practice. Six teacher candidates share their series of collages and GIFs, along with their reflective personal statements. We conclude by highlighting lessons learned through collaging from the perspective of students.

Abstract:
Abstract This article proposes collage as a cyclical epistemology for art therapy and arts-based research practice. Characteristics of collage and a cycle of construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction are presented and intertwined with post-structuralism. Construction, as a stable state of being, focuses on collage's ability to re-purpose materials and hold space. Deconstruction, as an unstable act of fragmenting and juxtaposing, emphasizes collage as a deconstructive event. Reconstruction, as the ongoing process of becoming, focuses on the layers of meaning within collage and its ability to impermanently stabilize. Through this cycle, collage becomes a way of creating, thinking, and being. Furthermore, collage can be considered a fitting epistemology for identity development due to its infinite entanglements, continuous simultaneity, constant instability, and ongoing state of becoming. Together, deconstruction and collage suggest methods for arts-based research, propose a theoretical perspective for art therapy, and provide an ontology and epistemology to guide research, leading to meaning making, potentiality, and a desirable ongoing state of impermanence.

Abstract:
This article discusses a very well-known and frequently used technique for an implementation of a variety of artistic projects - a collage created by means of information technology. The article tells about using collage in higher education for teaching graphics, in particular, raster editors. Graphics editors such as Adobe Photoshop or GIMP are included in the Computer Science and Information Technology program. Students get the opportunity to create graphic images regardless of their prior art education. The introduction of the topic "Creating a collage by means of a raster editor" introduces a creative element into IT disciplines and develops the student's associative thinking at the level of brain functioning. As a rule, raster editors are used to edit an image, not to create it. Therefore, preparation for these classes encourages students to search for the necessary visual material on the Internet. In order to obtain more personal images, a deep study of photography techniques is required. It is also useful to study the history of photo and film collages, their texture and structure. The scope of the collage use is various. This is psychology, teaching foreign languages and, of course, fine arts. Advertising posters that we see in large numbers in the media and transport are also collages. The article traces the history of collage creation from ancient Egyptian history to modern advertising products. It is especially interesting to study the time when collage became a conscious technique. This is a great layer of avant-garde art.

Abstract:
Collage from "found" visual imagery is widely employed as an accessible medium for expression and illustration in educational, therapeutic, and recreational contexts. Given the history of collage as a strategy of criticism and subversion in the fine arts, visual researchers seek to develop a methodology of collage as a means to knowledge, affording insight into the negotiation and embodiment of media imagery in subjective experience. Highly relevant issues of body image and eating disorders are addressed through the presentation and analysis of a self-study series of collages and life writings. The resulting intuitive "figures" of anorexia demonstrate the creative potential of collage to reconfigure experience excluded from standard texts, and suggest alternative interpretations of both suffering and healing on an individual and cultural level.

Abstract:
AbstractA collage is a composite artwork made from the spatial layout of multiple pictures on a canvas, collected from the Internet or user photographs. Collages, usually made by skilled artists, involve a complex manual process, especially when searching for component pictures and adjusting their spatial layout to meet artistic requirements. In this paper, we present a visual perception driven method for automatically synthesizing visually pleasing collages. Unlike previous works, we focus on how to design a collage layout which not only provides easy access to the theme of the overall image, but also conforms to human visual perception. To achieve this goal, we formulate the generation of collages as a mapping problem: given a canvas image, first, compute a saliency map for it and a vector field for each sub-region of it. Second, using a divide-and-conquer strategy, generate a series of patch sets from the canvas image, where the salient map and the vector field are used to determine each patch’s size and direction respectively. Third, construct a Gestalt-based energy function to choose the most visually pleasing and orderly patch set as the final layout. Finally, using a semantic-color metric, map the picture set to the patch set to generate the final collage. Extensive experimental and user study results show that this method can generate visual pleasing collages.

Osteoarthritis is a prevalent musculoskeletal condition worldwide with rising rates in elderly people. Both mechanical and immunological factors are implicated in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis resulting in destruction of the articular cartilage. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) commonly used for the treatment of osteoarthritis, are associated with several adverse events and also do not affect the underlying disease process. Clinicians and patients both seek options which are safe and effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis. Collagen derivatives represent a suitable option in such cases. Collagen is the most abundant component of the cartilage. Collage derivatives have shown to have disease modifying action in osteoarthritis. Depending on the degree of hydrolysis and molecular weight, collage derivatives are classified into undenaured collagen, gelatin and collage hydrolysate. Collagen derivatives are well tolerated without major safety concerns. Undenatured type II collagen has shown to provide significant improvement in patients with osteoarthritis. In this article we discuss, the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis with focus on immunological factors and evidence for the use of undenatured collagen type II in osteoarthritis.

Abstract:
Grieving the loss of a baby may feel excruciatingly painful for parents. The rate of stillbirth in the United Kingdom is approximately eight babies per day. However, the rate of stillbirth disproportionally affects Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) families. This paper explores an ongoing doctoral project which incorporates collage-making as a creative method to explore how BAME stillbirth bereaved parents access bereavement support. Creative methods may generate findings that can better reach public audiences to spark transformational change. Collage is a visual interpretive tool that is generally accessible to the public. Collages are often created by selecting images from magazines or newspapers or textured paper mediums, where the participants cut or alters the images and arranges and attaches them to mediums such as cardboard or paper. Incorporating collage in research can serve as a useful method when engaging with participants who are perhaps not comfortable communicating their thoughts about sensitive subjects. In addition to using collage as a creative research method, this study also features collage as a reflexive tool. Collage is an efficient tool for uncovering what is not said out loud about grief, but which is very much present within a grieving person. Breaking the silence and sharing the loss of a child through creative methods enhances the understanding of the experience of perinatal loss and provides a voice to those who would otherwise remain unheard.

Abstract:
Re-touched is a collaborative project by collage artist Sarah Eyre and fashion photographer Xanthe Hutchinson. Both artists share an interest in the female body, particularly the notion of pleasure in display and gaze between women and the body. The body of work that forms Re-touched combines photographic and collage methods in order to embody a sense of sensuality through the opening up and enfolding of the female form, on set and through the process of collage. The artists position their work within a framework of feminist theory that questions the binary thinking around the gaze. They draw on the writing of Laura U. Marks to bring a haptic quality to their photographic and collage interventions to the image, and in inviting the viewer to be touched by their images. Through this series of photographic collages, they have established a visual and tactile approach that utilizes the body, is collaborative and re-figures the power structures between model, photographer and viewer. Their images offer a way of rethinking and reshaping representations of the female nude.

Abstract:
Nature has been a plentiful source of materials, replenishment, inspiration, and creativity. Nature collage, as a crafting technique, is a fun and educational activity for children to explore nature and engage their creativity. However, the raw material collection is limited to static things such as leaves, ignoring inspiration from nature sounds and dynamic elements such as babbling creeks. Using a mobile application, we hope to encourage children's creativity by renewing collage materials collection and careful observation in nature. To explore this, we conducted a formative study with children (N=20) and a design workshop with experts (N=6) to formulate NaCanva, an AI-assisted multi-modal collage creation system for children. Drawing on the interactivity between children and nature, NaCanva enables the multi-modal material collection, including images, sound, and videos, which differs our system from traditional collages. We validated this system with a between-subject user study (N=30), and the results suggested that NaCanva unleashes children's creativity in nature collage creation by enhancing children's multidimensional observation and engagement in nature.

Abstract:
CollageMachine builds interactive collages from the Web. First you choose a direction. Then CollageMachine will take you surfing out across the Internet as far as it can reach. It builds a collage from the most interesting media it can find for you. You don't have to click through links. You rearrange the collage to refine your exploration. CollageMachine is an agent of recombination. Aesthetics of musical composition and conceptual detournement underlie its development. The composer John Cage and Dada artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Max Ernst used structured chance procedures to create aesthetic assemblages. These works create new meaning by recontextualizing found objects. Instead of functioning as a single visual work, CollageMachine embodies the process of collage making. CollageMachine [1] deconstructs Web sites and re-presents them in collage form. The program crawls the Web, downloading sites. It breaks each page down into media elements—images and texts. Over time, these elements stream into a collage. Point, click, drag, and drop to rearrange the media. How you organize the elements shows CollageMachine what you're interested in. You can teach it to bring media of interest to you. On the basis of your interactions, CollageMachine reasons about your interests; the evolving model informs ongoing choices of selection and placement. CollageMachine has been developed through a process of freely combining disciplines according to the principles of “interface ecology.”

Abstract:
Features of collage works and block works were examined from the viewpoints of form and content in particular. Relationships between the Tokyo University Egogram scores and these features were then examined. The participants with high Critical Parent scores tended to correlate with the number of human figures (r = .56, p < .10) and plants (r = -.55, p < .10) present in their collage works and with the number of basic blocks (r = -.67, p < .05). Meanwhile, those with high Adult scores correlated with the number of human figures (r = .57, p < .10) present in their collages and the number of basic blocks (r = -.62, p < .10). Finally, those with high Free Child scores tended to correlate with the area of expression (r = .72, p < .05) in collage works and the number of specific blocks (r = .65, p < .05).

Abstract:
In this article we have analyzed the artistic features of S. Paradzhanov’s art. We have investigated the interaction of Paradzhanov’s cinematic works with his collages. Analysis of creative work of S. Paradzhanov suggests that the master deliberately abandons a number of opportunities provided by the director of traditional cinematic language, manifesting such an “screen painting”. Analysis of films, artworks and screenplays by S. Paradzhanov allowed us to identify three main features of his collage tools: 1) work with color and visionary elements; 2) features of visual representation of texts; 3) textures and volumes of images in the frame. Collage techniques have a number of purely visual properties, which are reproduced in different ways in cinematic artistic background. It is likely that S. Paradzhanov, fully aware of this peculiarity, emphasized certain qualitative features of the collage technique, achieving the desired effect in the frame. That is why, in our opinion, Paradzhanov’s collage could exist only within the framework of author’s cinema in the aesthetics of Soviet art. Postmodernist thinking came to Soviet art through author’s cinema, where S. Paradzhanov was one of the key figures.
