Abstract:
The Harlem Children’s Zone® (HCZ) and the Brazelton Touchpoints Center engaged in ‘collaborative consultation’ to co-create early childhood and parent support programming. This collaboration is the story of a community coming together to reclaim and reconstruct environments for raising children and to connect adult caregivers to support each other in that process. A relational, developmental, strengths-based, and culturally grounded approach was employed to build mutual respect, trust, and understanding over time in authentic relationships required for shared learning, and for programme development and improvement. The inherent and culturally rooted strengths and resources of parents, and other family and community members mutually reinforced each other as contexts and conditions were created in which these caregivers could come together to activate their community’s collective problem-solving capacity, to share their dreams for their children, and to provide emotional support and concrete resources for each other.

Abstract:
Many times, parents of gifted students with disabilities are unsure of how to navigate school policy dealing with serving one exceptionality, let alone two. Creating strong school-to-home collaborative partnerships requires school officials connect with parents through a variety of mediums. From inviting parents to attend special events at the school to establishing social-media groups focused on parents’ needs, school officials must find ways to bring parents into the school and into collaborative partnerships. By creating an inviting school culture, educators will cultivate parental involvement and produce individualized programming that meets the needs of this special population. This chapter provides background information on the importance of strong school-to-home partnerships and offers realistic strategies that school officials can implement.

Abstract:
The body has a crucial role in the production and perception of musical performance that has been recognized for centuries. Research in the field of music psychology on the body has reflected some of the recent social anthropology and critical musicology trends, and so has developed a strand of socially focused enquiry. These ideas are explored in this article, which begins with research on motor programming, moves to more social aspects of performance and bodily movement, and finishes by considering musical collaborations.

Full text
Abstract:
Presenting Medical Statistics from Proposal to Publication (second edition) aims to show readers how to conduct a wide range of statistical analyses from sample size calculations through to multifactorial regressions that are needed in the research process. The second edition of ‘Presenting’ has been revised and updated and now includes Stata, SAS, SPSS, and R. The book shows how to interpret each computer output and illustrates how to present the results and accompanying text in a format suitable for a peer-reviewed journal article or research report. All analyses are illustrated using real data and all programming code, outputs, and datasets used in the book are available on a website for readers to freely download and use. ‘Presenting’ includes practical information and helpful tips for software, all statistical methods used, and the research process. It is written by three experienced biostatisticians, Janet Peacock, Sally Kerry, and Ray Balise from the UK and the USA, and is born out of their extensive experience conducting collaborative medical research, teaching medical students, physicians, and other health professionals, and providing researchers with advice.

Ogborn, David. Network Music and the Algorithmic Ensemble. Edited by Roger T. Dean and Alex McLean. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780190226992.013.7.

Full text
Abstract:
Network music happens when people make music with computer networks, and algorithmic approaches to network music introduce specific challenges and opportunities. Networking is an area of considerable complexity from a programming standpoint, involving the representation and handling of uncertainty and failure, and computer networks and networked forms are fundamental to contemporary governance and politics. The allure of network music lies both in this potential for play with key aspects of present-day power structures and in its potential support for musical relationships of friendship, collaboration, and participation. Key network music dynamics that emerge from the materiality of networking technologies revolve around considerations of latency and jitter, bandwidth, and security. Each of these dynamics is modified strongly when it becomes a matter not simply of network music, but more specifically algorithmic network music.

Lederer, Gregor. Rocket Engine on a Student Budget. Technische Universität Dresden, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.25368/2022.406.

Abstract:
A technical project alongside the University courses can deepen the understanding and increase the motivation for the subject of choice. As a student, there is often a hurdle to start such a project because of a lack of inspiration. And even after overcoming this, the costs associated with such a project may put students off. With my project I show how a 3rd semester Mechanical Engineering student can design and manufacture a rocket engine with all testing components on a student budget. Cost structure and resource planning are explained in detail. I launched the project in December 2020 and in September 2021 it was presented at the StuFoExpo21. A general curiosity for the topic and a basic understanding of mechanical engineering was sufficient for starting the project. Importantly, I gained the most valuable knowledge during the implementation of the project, through active failure-iteration and reading specialised literature. The project is focussed on the design and manufacturing of a rocket engine and its testing components. A special feature is the cooling jacket of the combustion chamber. It has been 3D printed in the SLUB Makerspace, a facility at TU Dresden. Further work packages of the project were the programming of sensors and control systems, first open-air combustion tests of the injector head, safety checks and a Risk & Safety analysis. The first testing and other preliminary work were performed in collaboration with fellow students. During the entire design and manufacturing process I was in continuous exchange with the research group “Space Transportation” of the Institute of Aerospace Engineering at TU Dresden. Special thanks go to Dipl.-Ing. Jan Sieder-Katzmann and Dipl.-Ing. Maximilian Buchholz for their help during this process. For 2022 I plan a test campaign of the rocket engine to collect sensor data and to perform engine thrust measurements.
