Abstract:
This research Paper under the title (code switching and code_ mixing), we research theories and causes of their occurrence and their different linguistic levels as represented by the examples used among Kurdish – speaking people. In order to establish scientific methodology in the research paper the research is divided into three integrated sections: the first section is dedicated to the reasons and motivations for the code_ switching and code mixing in which we explained the reasons and the linguistic and nonlinguistic motives for the occurrence of this phenomenon. In the second part of the paper marked with code_ switching, we discussed the types of conversion codes and language elements for the conversion of codes. In the third section under the title ‘code_ mixing, we explained the vision and methods of mixing the codes, as well as the methods and structure of code mixing is explained. Finally, we presented the most important results found in the research paper

Abstract:
This study aims to discover the switching and mixing code types and their functions that are dominantly used in student online discussions. This research was designed in descriptive-qualitative method by using video recordings and interviews from Pragmatics class of postgraduate degree students as the data sources. The obtained data were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman model of analysis by involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students frequently switched and mixed codes during the discussions. In this case, ode mixing was dominantly occurred compared to code switching. There were 78 occurrences of code changes in total, with the proportions of 44 mixings and 34 switchings. Dealing with the types, insertion code mixing was found to be the mostly used in the discussions whereas intersentenential switching becomes the least. The phenomena of code switching and mixing in the classroom discussions has various functions, i.e.: for communication strategy, for delivering the meaning, for making clarification of the information, for defining specific terms, and for increasing understanding. This study also reflects the students' positive attitudes toward using switching and mixing codes in classroom discussion activities. It is recommended for further research to ensure the appropriate strategies for the teachers in switching and mixing codes for both offline and online classes.

Abstract:
The research discussed K-pop idols as ambassadors for brands, contributing to the global popularity of K-pop as a cultural phenomenon. Given their strong influence and popularity, it was fascinating to discern how K-Pop idols' diaspora communicates with each other. By using the descriptive-qualitative approach with the interpretive-explorative pattern, the research was intended to examine the practice of code-switching and code-mixing by K-pop idols' diaspora during their interaction, to enumerate the code-switching and code-mixing instances, as well as to study the reasons/motivations behind the use of using code-switching and code-mixing. The result of the data analysis confirmed that, like other bilinguals, K-Pop idol's diaspora utilize code switching and code mixing during their interaction for various underlying reasons. It is found that there are 19 inter-sentential switchings, 18 intra-sentential switching, four tag switching, 11 insertion code-mixing, four alternation code-mixing, and six congruent lexicalizations with different reasons or motivations. The research concluded that it is almost inevitable for bilinguals and multilinguals to practice code- switching and code-mixing to navigate language selection during their interaction.

Code-switching, a code change in language use, is a language phenomenon in bilingual or multilingual societies.The rapid development of technology causes many language changes also occur in internet including social networking sites such as <em>Facebook</em>. This research is about how the code-switching from <em>Bahasa Indonesia</em> to <em>English</em> is demonstrated in <em>Facebook</em> status of UAI students. The research focuses on the types of code-switching, language patterns, themes, and function of code-switching. Data are code-switched <em>Facebook</em> status analyzed with theories of code-switching by Poplack (1980), Gumperz (1982), and Romaine (2000). This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The result demonstrates the types of code-switchings in <em>Facebook</em> status are inter-sentential and intra-sentential switchings. Both types of code-switchings are expressed in words, phrases, and sentences. Code-switched words are nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs. Phrases in code-switching are noun, adjective, adverbial, and prepositional phrases. Whereas code-switched sentences found in the <em>Facebook </em>status are single, compound, and complex sentences. The themes in code-switched <em>Facebook</em> status cover the themes related with social, academic, and personal lives of the language users. The functions of code-switching in the analyzed status are to express emotion and particular meanings, to impose specific meanings, and to show language user’s identities.

Abstract:
This article analyses the function that code-switching plays in selected testimonies given at South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission which followed the country’s transition to democracy in 1994. In a number of testimonies, victims of human rights abuse under Apartheid code-switched into Afrikaans when recalling particularly offensive uses of language by the police. Within the code-switching literature, it is well recognised that a speaker’s choice of code, particularly for quoted speech, is a strategy for performing different kinds of local identities which index a range of social meanings and relationships (Álvarez-Cáccamo 1996, Koven 2001). Thus code-switching may serve a complex evaluative function although the meanings it generates are very context-dependent. In order to explore this role in the testimonies in this paper, I use the appraisal theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics (Martin & White 2005). I argue that on a number of occasions, code-switching into a particular variety of Afrikaans is used by testifiers as a strategy to invoke negative judgement: it has the effect of associating the police with a particular racist ideology and positioning them for our sanction. Further, it works together with other engagement resources to insert a recognisable historical voice into the text, thereby expanding the heteroglossic nature of the discourse while simultaneously allowing the speakers to signal their rejection of that voice and the ideologies it represents. In the current SFL literature, however, code-switching has not been noted as an appraisal resource. In the light of the examples from the TRC testimonies, I argue that, in multilingual contexts, code-switching has the potential to invoke complex evaluative meanings and should be included in the appraisal framework as an evaluative resource.

In the late 1950s, Iraqi Jews were either forced or chose to leave Iraq for Israel. Most Iraqi Jewish authors found it impossible to continue writing in Arabic in Israel and so faced the literary challenge of switching to Hebrew. As bilinguals, Iraqi Jewish novelists have employed Arabic in some of their Hebrew literary works, including strategies of code-switching. Conversational code-switching is traditionally divided into three types: intersentential code-switching, intrasentential code-switching, and tag-switching. Although code-switching in literary texts has its distinct features, research on written code-switching generally follows the typology applied to conversational code-switching. This article focuses on the typology of code-switching in literary texts. It investigates Arabic codes used in three Hebrew novels written by Iraqi Jewish novelists. The article suggests three main types of literary code-switching in view of the mutual relationship between author, text, and reader: Hard-Access, Easy-Access, and Ambiguous Access code-switching.

Abstract:
Code-switching is a common phenomenon in a bilingual and multilingual society. People utilize codes in different forms of interactions for various reasons and functions. This paper investigates the types and functions of code-switching between English and Bahasa Indonesia that occur in lyrics. Fifteen Indonesian songs produced from 2009 to 2019 were examined. This analysis reveals that four types of code-switching occur in the lyrics of Indonesian popular songs: code-switching between sentences (intersentential), code-switching within sentences (intrasentential), code-switching involving changes of pronunciation, and emblematic code-switching. It further reveals that the functions of code-switching in the lyrics vary from discussing particular topics, lexical needs and availability, being emphatic, expressing group identity, simplifying words and expressions, and conveying a strong emotion/gaining attention.

Abstract:
This research aimed to identify the types of code switching and the students’ perception about code switching used by the English teachers in the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sawan. This research was conducted in descriptive qualitative design. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students and the eighth grade English teachers. The instruments used in this study were observation sheet, questionnaire, and interview guide. The results of this research showed that there were three types of code switching used by the English teachers. The data showed there were (31.7%) of intra sentential code switching, (54.8%) of inter sentential code switching and (13.4%) of inter personal code switching.The results of the questionnaire showed that the average responses of the students were (70.74%), it means that students were catagorized to have positive perception about the use of code switching by the English teachers. The interview shows that the students had positive response about the use of code switching by the English teachers. There were two reasons concerning the students’ positive answer, that is, code switchings that make the students understand the material more easily, and code swicthings that reduce the students’ stress in learning.

Abstract:
This research analyzed the language codes used in the song lyrics of an Indonesian group called Un1ty. The purposes of this research were to identify the types of code-switching and code-mixing and the reasons for using the codes in the lyrics of the songs. This research used descriptive qualitative method and the data were analyzed using the theory of Hoffman (1991) to investigate the types of code switching and code mixing and to find the reasons of using the codes in the song lyrics. The results of this research indicated that there were 31 data points. For the type of code-switching, the researchers found that there were 21 data, namely 5 types of intra-sentential switching, 15 inter-sentential switching, and 1 tag switching. Meanwhile, there were 9 data for code-mixing, 8 for intra-sentential mixing and 1 for change pronunciations. Furthermore, for the reasons, there are 13 being empathic about something (express solidarity), 4 talking about particular topic, 1 expressing group identity, 8 intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutors, 1 repetition used for clarification and 3 interjection (insert sentence fillers or sentence connectors).

The method used in this research is qualitative method. This study uses a qualitative method. Data collection is done by observation and note-taking. There were three main problems of this research (1). How often do the lecturers make code switching in the learning process? (2). What are types of code switching that used by lecturers in the learning process? (3). What are the factors cause the lecturers used code switching in the learning process? The method of this research was descriptive gualitative. To gain the data, this research used a recording device, field notes, and a guestionnaire. After analyzing the data, it concluded that all of the lecturers used code switching in the teaching learning process more than 244 occurrences of code switching and more 86.67Y”6 responded agree that they often did code switching when teaching. They did code switching based on their material and orally. The writer also found the English codes with added Indonesian prefix and suffix likes dismoothkan, diprint out, utilizingnya, etc. Then, freguently of the codes were Fisheries Faculty 111 of occurrences (45.49”o) Engineering Faculty 59 (24.180), Law of Faculty 25 (10.25Y9), Sociology Faculty and Administrative Science 25 (10.25Y6) and the remaining 24 occurrences (9.84”6) are Agriculture Faculty. About 54 statements that shown as situational code switching and nine statements were metaphorical code switching. And ten out 15 factors that the lecturers agree from statements contained in the guestionnaire and five factors were disagreed.

This research discusses about the code switching about life in Japan in YouTube content. This research aims to describe the types of code switching and the factors behind the speech. The occurrence of code switching in Youtube content seen from the speakers or users, especially if the speech is spoken by mixed-blood speakers, Japanese learners, and native Japanese speakers that learning Indonesian. Researcher uses the theories of code switching types to describe the variety of code switching sentences and factors that cause code switching to describe the cause of utterance. The results of this research indicate that the most widely used type of code switching is code switching in which speakers insert two codes from another language to the target language with more than one sentence of speech. In terms of the factors causing the occurrence of speech, each speaker shifts the code more when the topic of conversation changes into another discussion.

Abstract The mixing of three or more languages in casual conversations, a hallmark of Chinese Malaysian informal speech, expresses a range of sociological and ideological meanings in the ongoing construction of Chinese Malaysian heteroglossic identities. While code-switching patterns sometimes mark different speaker positions, they also express broader language identities and ideologies that transcend individual conversations. This is especially clear when analysing the relative frequency and semantic domains of single lexeme mixing, where English is mostly used for consumer culture, Malay for place names and personal names, and Chinese topolects for expressing emotion. Detailed analysis of 12 adult conversations recorded in natural settings in diverse regions of Malaysia is corroborated by language attitudes expressed in focus groups, Facebook posts, and informal conversations and interviews, revealing the diverse and sometimes contending language ideologies linked to specific languages in the Chinese Malaysian setting.

Abstract:
This research aims to analyze the types and the functions of code-switchingin EFL Classroom Interaction by teacher and students. The type of this research is descriptive using a qualitative approach. The instruments which are used are observation, interview, and documentation. The observation is conducted 3 times while interview was done to English teacher and some students to know the use of code switching in EFL classroom. The result shows that code switching is mostly used especially in explaining material to students based on Poplack theory. Three types of code switching which was used by the teacher: tag switching occurred 5 times in 3 meetings, intrasentential code-switching occored 33 times in 3 meetings, and interrsentential code-switching occurred 22 times in 3 meetings. Meanwhile, Based on Sert, there are the three functions of teachers’ code-switching accomplished. They were topic switch occurred 37 times in 3 meetings, affective function occurred 16 times in 3 meeting), and repetitive function occurred 16 times in 3 meetings. Besides, there are two functions of students’ code-switching accomplished. These functions are equivalence appeared 3 times in 3 meetings and reiteration appeared 1 time in three meetings. In conclusion, the type of code switching that is most often done by teachers is intersential switching, which occurs in one sentence, when the speaker says a complete sentence in one language into another language. Meanwhile, the code switching function that is most often used by teachers is topic switch, namely the teacher does code switching when explaining material to students, while the code switching function that is most often used by students is equivalence, namely repeating to avoid mistakes.

The study aimed to analyze Code-switching and Code-mixing between English and Indonesian language used by the lecturer in teaching the subject Communicative English Grammar for the second semester students of English education department of STAI DDI Pinrang.The method applied was qualitative descriptive. The data source was the utterances of the lecturer in teaching Communicative English Grammar. The data were collected by recording what the lecturer uttered in teaching-learning process and interviewing the lecturer to gain information about the functions of switching and mixing his code in teaching-learning process. Then, the collected data were classified and analyzed based on the types of code-switching and code-mixing and the functions based on the theory of Hoffman. The results showed that:1)The types of code-switching used by the lecturer of Communicative English Grammar in teaching and learning process were: inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and emblamatic/tag switching, and establishing continuity with the previous speaker. while for the types of code-mixing were: intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and involving a change of pronunciation; 2) The Functions or reasons of using both code-switching and code-mixing by the lecturer of Communicative English Grammar were: Repetition used for clarification, Intention of clarifying the speech content for students, and interjection. The findings implied that both code-switching and code-mixing were used by the communicative English grammar lecturer in English teaching-learning process, so it showed that both code-switching and code-mixing are necessary to facilitate ELT particularly in complicated subjets like grammar. The aim of this research is to describe the form of use and function of code switching and code mixing in the Mangongkal Holi short story collection. The basic method used in this research is the descriptive method. The theory used as a guide in this research is the sociolinguistic theory put forward by Suwito, Suandi and Ariffin. The results of research in document analysis show that the short story collection Mangongkal Holi by Saut Poltak Tambunan has several forms of use of code switching and code mixing. There are several forms of use of code switching and code mixing as well as several functions of code switching and code mixing. For code switching, there is internal and external code switching, namely English and French. For code mixing, there is code mixing into Indonesian; mix exit codes, namely English, French and Italian. Problems that often occur in learning need to be clarified when communicating. This is related to the use of code-mixing and connection switching in learning. This research aims to analyze the types of code-switching and code-mixing in online teaching, how English teachers use code-switching and code-mixing, and why teachers switch and mix speech. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive design. The objects of this research were three English teachers. Data was collected via Zoom video recording of the teacher's speech. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive model. The research results show that the type of code-switching teachers do most often is inter-sentential code-switching. The aim of this study is to analyze type and function of code switching in the novel. The novel entitled “Critical Eleven” was chosen because this novel is a great novel and the dialogues use many code switchings. There are two problems to be investigated: First, What types of code switching were found in this novel? And the second one What kinds of function of code switching were applied in this novel? The method used in collecting data was the documentation method and the data were analyzed using the theory proposed by Muysken in “The Cambridge Handbook of Sociolinguistics”. The result of this study shows that there were seventeen examples of tag switching, twenty four examples of inter sentential switching and fifty six examples of intra sentential switching. There were six examples of emotive function, two examples referential function, four examples of phatic function, five examples of metalinguistic function and only one example of poetic function but the conative function was not found.

The current study examined the use of Code-Switching in WhatsApp Group (WAG) to find out what codes were used and switched among users of WA and in particular to identify the rationales for such a discursive practice in their communication amid Covid-19 Pandemic. Data for this study were screenshots of linguistic exchanges in WAG over a period of two days (weekend). Theoretical framework for the use of Code- Switching was highlighted as the basis of data analysis. Findings reveal that most members of WAG employ intrasentential code-switching. Regarding the rationales of code-switching, most members used code- switching to talk about particular topics and to show emphaty. The study concludes that code switching is a social reality in a multilingual and multicultural society of diverse educational background. It is highly recommended that similar studies be conducted in some wider and more diverse strata of people in the use of CS to support a newly coined term ‘Permanent Code Switching’ (PCS).

This paper aims at analyzing the types of code-switching in the conversation of multilingual roving people, who move from one country to another country. The participants of this qualitative research were five multilingual roving people. Audio recordings and interviews were used to collect the data. The results reveal that the types of code-switching employed by the multilingual roving people were intra-sentential switching, inter-sentential switching, situational switching, and metaphorical switching. The researchers also found that the factors influencing the multilingual roving people in switching the codes included the speaker, interlocutors, changes in the situation because of the third person, and changes in the topic. The researchers concluded that the type of code-switching that appeared the most was intra-sentential switching and the most influencing factor why the participants did code-switching was the interlocutors.

The researchers formulated two main questions in this study: (1) What types of code-switching are used by students in Online English Language Learning (ELL)? The researchers observed and recorded the Zoom classes in the five sections of the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies of the said College for the data collection. Research ethics was properly observed in the process of data gathering. Additionally, the researchers interviewed students from each class to triangulate the study results. Moreover, the researchers used content and thematic analyses to analyze the collected data from the transcribed audio and interviews. Furthermore, the findings showed that among the three types of code-switching that Poplack (1980) has categorized. The most prevalent type of switching that English Language Studies students mostly use is tag switching; Second, intra-sentential code-switching; Then, the inter-sentential code-switching. The results also explained the various perceptions of English Language students about the employment of code-switching in their classes. The paper also presents code-switching's positive and negative effects on students' language learning.

There are several interpretations of code-switching. Some teachers encourage EFL learners to apply it as they believe it helps them acquire and comprehend the target language. This study investigates in three different settings the code-switching behaviors of 10 Saudi students, the association between the participants' degree of English proficiency and their employment of code-switching. It also investigates how the context affects code-switching behaviors by examining the various types of code-switch as well as how code-switchers perceive it. The study's qualitative methodology involved interviewing the participants and use of checklist to analyze their responses. Results show the participants with high English proficiency levels, did not like to switch codes. Additionally, while the minority of participants claimed they did not code-switch in the Saudi context, the remaining individuals claimed they did so in each of the three settings. However, the study found that among the participants, one word (noun) was the form of code-switch that was used the most frequently. Finally, the study demonstrated that even though all individuals occasionally switched codes, they all had unfavorable perceptions of it. The study suggests that teachers should regulate code-switching in different contexts.

Abstract Feasibility of maintaining an educational sustainable development (ESD) depends on exploring teachers’ concepts on their common practices in classroom settings. Speakers in multilingual contexts commonly switch their codes, languages, during their numerous social interactions. Nowadays, the phenomena, code switching, has expanded to cover any situation in which speakers switch from one accepted code into another. Through this perspective, various studies have been conducted to investigate different aspects of code-switching in EFL classrooms. The present study qualitatively investigated teachers’ perceptions on code-switching in their classrooms addressing two research questions, namely what types of code-switching EFL teachers were practicing in EFL classrooms and what were their perceptions on their code-switching. Four EFL teachers participated in the study. The analysis of the data collected through manual and electronic observations as well as structured interviews, indicated that intra-sentential and inter-sentential types of code-switching were practised throughout the classroom teaching processes. The main motives for resorting to code-switching were found to be EFL students’ lack of linguistic proficiency, keeping solidarity with the students and managing the classrooms.

This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The researcher used observation checklist, video recording, interview, and questionnaire as the instruments of this research. The result of this research shows that the English teachers did all the types of code switching in English class. Namely; tag code switching, inter-sentential code switching, and intra-sentential code switching. Meanwhile, the researcher found that the teachers only used two from the three types of code mixing. Namely; intra-sentential code mixing and intra-lexical code mixing. The type that did not appear was involvement in a change of pronunciation. This study revealed that the teachers’ reason in using code switching and code mixing are; to help the students in learning English and to make the students more focus in learning process. For the students’ perception, most of the students agreed that the use of code switching and code mixing helps them understand the materials in English language learning class.

This study aims at identifying the types and functions of code-switching uttered by the characters in the novel “The Player”. The data was taken from the novel “The Player” by an Indonesian female author, Aliazalea published in 2020. This study used a theory proposed by Hoffman (1991) to identify the types of code-switching. Furthermore, the theory proposed by Gumperz (1982) was used to identify the functions applied in the code-switching found in the novel. The content analysis method was used to analyze the data with descriptive presentation. As a result, 35 codes switching were found in the characters in the novel. The types of code-switching proposed by Hoffman (1991) are inter-sentential switching occurred 9 times, intra-sentential switching occurred 15 times, and emblematic switching occurred 11 times. There are 3 functions implied in the code-switching found from 6 functions proposed by Gumperz (1982). They are interjection, message qualification, and personalization. The other 3 functions are quotation, addressee specification, and reiteration which do not appear in the data. From the analysis, it could be concluded that intra-sentential switching is the type of code-switching most frequently used by the characters. Personalization is the function most frequently implied in code-switching as the characters tend to convey their thoughts by switching the language.

V članku obravnavam preklapljanje kod – angl. code switching Borisa Pahorja v zbirki kratkih zgodb Grmada v pristanu (1972). V tem literarnem delu, ki se ukvarja predvsem z obdobjem fašističnega zatiranja slovenske manjšine v Trstu, so pogosti primeri code switchinga iz slovenščine – glavnega jezika – v italijanščino in nemščino. Code switching ima številne funkcije. Četudi se morda zdi, da je glavna mimetična, tj. posredovanje jezikovnega konteksta zgodbe na bolj neposreden način, ostaja pisatelju na voljo tudi kot močno naratološko orodje, ki opravlja druge naloge. V Pahorjevem primeru je v Grmadi v pristanu code switching uporabljen za več nalog, npr. za poudarjanje nasprotij (političnih, ideoloških, socialnih in kulturnih) med različnimi okolji. Pogosto se uporablja tudi ob neprevedljivosti. Prevod v slovenščino bi namreč ponekod pomenil veliko osiromašenje zgodbe ali celo njeno popačenje. Vsekakor je code switching rezultat skrbnega in specifičnega izbora.

This study discusses the form and function of code-switching and code-mixing used by the teacher in teaching listening skills to the Intermediate 3 students at LBPP-LIA Bekasi. The phenomenon of implementing code-switching and codemixing codes does not only occur in multilingual societies but also in the foreign language learning process in the classroom where teacher and students use two different languages. The strategy of using code-switching and code-mixing is expected to facilitate foreign language students particularly in learning how to listen where the teacher and students engage in interaction using the language that students are learning. Qualitative method is used to analyze data. From the results of data analysis, it was revealed that the teacher often switches codes when teaching listening skills for both code- switching from English to Bahasa and vice versa. The teacher also mixes the code in the form of morphemes, words, phrases, and clauses. The aim of the teacher to change and mix codes in teaching can be seen from the functions of using code-switching and code-mixing. The confirmation function, for example, is used by the teacher so that students do not misunderstand the topic learned. Other functions also have different objectives to facilitate students learning how to listen in English interactively in the classroom.

Switching codes has been a strategic communication tool in today's world of business and trades, and it is largely noticeable in television advertisements. The paper explores the striking features of code switching and investigate the reasons behind Bangla-English code switching in Bangladeshi television advertisements and its impact on viewers. The study used a mixed method approach for data collection including questionnaire, semi structured interview and observations. The researchers conducted interview of advertising managers, questionnaire survey among students and mass people, and observed various TV channels to collect authentic data. The results reveal that intra-sentential code switching is the most prominently employed type of code switching in television advertisements. The study also finds that code switching is used in television advertisements to attract and engage viewers, bridge lexical gaps, emphasize key points, and enhance contextual understanding. Besides, the results demonstrate that code switching has a notable impact on viewers, enhancing their ability to recall advertisements and influencing their purchasing decisions. The researchers recommend that advertisers should consider the social standing of their intended audience and determine whether code switching aligns well with both the product's image and the social identities of the consumers. This study explores code-switching in Facebook Live sales in Algeria, assessing its impact as a marketing strategy. By analyzing ten such broadcasts, the study sheds light on the linguistic strategies and code-switching patterns that salespeople adopt. Further depth is added through the examination of viewer feedback and a survey of 47 respondents. The research outcomes identifies three types of code-switching: intersentential, intrasentential, and tag-switching, blending French and Arabic. The findings also reveals that online vendors’ use of code-switching could enhance persuasion, introduce variability, detail products, and reach diverse socioeconomic demographics. French here is used for its prestige, while Algerian Arabic serves to enhance comprehensibility and broaden customer appeal. However, excessive code-switching can alienate those with limited bilingual proficiency. The audience showed a preference for Algerian Arabic with French loanwords, reflecting the inherent bilingualism of social media users and societal diglossia. The study, in general, highlights code-switching’s persuasive impact in digital marketing, and emphasized the importance of considering audience language preferences and proficiency.

Social media has changed the way people use and share language. Online spaces unite people from different backgrounds, creating a diverse language environment. This study comprehensively analyzed the code-switching types and functions employed by Bisdak (Bisayang Dako) content creators within interview segments shared on the Facebook platform. It also examined the underlying reasons and motivations behind the use of these patterns. The research employed a qualitative research approach, specifically content analysis. The content analysis offered a nuanced lens to interpret how code-switching operates within this digital realm, enabling a comprehensive exploration of language practices embedded in online discourse. The findings reveal that the most prevalent form of code-switching observed was intrasentential, manifesting in 20 instances, closely followed by intersentential code-switching. On the other end of the spectrum, tag-switching surfaced as the least frequent code-switching type, registering a single occurrence in the analyzed dataset. Concerning the functions of code-switching manifested in the spoken discourse, there are four referential, eighteen expressive, two phatic, one poetic, six metalinguistic, and no occurrence for directive code-switching. The underlying reasons behind the use of code-switching are the following: to express cultural affiliation, to emphasize specific points, to signal or establish status, to express emotions, and to create a sense of intimacy. The findings stress the importance of sociolinguistic considerations in fully grasping the tapestry of code-switching's functionality. This research adds a pivotal layer of understanding to the evolving dynamics of language practices in the digital age.

Code-switching is the use of two languages in discourse to convey the intended message. The study investigated the phenomenon of code-switching during oral participation, specifically the experiences and contexts of the purposively selected students of ABC College in Cagayan de Oro City. The Phenomenology Design was employed in this study to explore the participants' actual experiences to identify the essence of human experiences. This study included six students from different programs of ABC College who experienced code-switching. The analysis was done using Creswell's (2007) simplified version of Moustakas's modification of the Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen Method of Analysis of Phenomenological Data. The finding of the study showed that the participants switched between codes during oral participation to support their communication skills and to feel more comfortable and confident in participating. The findings demonstrated that the phenomenon of code-switching as used by the students tended to come out when they were asked, wanted to express themselves more, encountered difficulty using the English language, were afraid to commit grammar errors, had difficulty recalling, lacked vocabulary, and when teachers allowed them to switch codes. This implies that the participants' experiences and contexts of code-switching during oral participation are reasons for code-switching. Thus, this study recommended facilitating the use of code-switching during oral participation in moderation for students to practice proficiency in their second language, English.

People usually choose different codes in different situation in every interaction. The phenomenon of code-switching is common in bilingualism and occurs in conversation. Code-switching occurs when conversation use two languages together to the extent that they change from one language to other in the course of a single utterance. By using qualitative method, this study was aimed to analyze the types and function of code-switching found in the utterance spoken by people in Lembah Segar sub-district. The interviews took 30-40 minutes each. The interviews were finally transcribed and the main themes were coded to answer the research questions; the second group of participants was students as native speakers of Persian. Ninety undergraduates from the three universities were randomly chosen from among those students majoring in TEFL. They were majoring in the first grade of the academic program. To this end, an eleven-item questionnaire was given to them to elicit their responses for the contexts and the reasons for which code-switching was preferred.The data from interview with EFL lecturers as well those of the students’ responses were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using SPSS, respectively, to determine where and for what purposes codes-switching were applied or practiced in EFL classrooms. The findings of the study indicated that their code-switching habits were connected to what was being taught. Their code-switching had to do with efficiency in their teaching and how to make it easier for the students to understand what they were teaching. <strong></strong></p>

Abstract:
The research was conducted in order to describe the types and factors of code-switching and code-mixing in the learning process. The research was a descriptive qualitative investigation using the case study method. The aim was to analyze the types and factors that caused code-switching and code-mixing. Then, the research subjects were three English teachers who taught Grade XI. In gathering the data, there were five classes that should be observed and the necessary data were gathered through recording technique. In the meantime, for validating the results of the analysis an FGD (Focus Group Discussion) should be held. The FGD was conducted in order to identify the answers to the research questions. Next, the results of the study were as follows. First, the types of code-switching were (a) intersentential code-switching, (b) intrasentential code-switching, and (c) tag-switching. On the other hand, the types of code-mixing were (a) alternation code-mixing, (b) insertion code-mixing, and (c) congruent lexicalization. Second, the factors that caused the use of code-switching in the English learning process were text quotation, clarification, and teacher’s instruction. On the other hand, the factors that caused the use of code-mixing were speech habits such as the first language and the second language effects, adversity of finding equivalent words, and people’s impression of the present trends.

Abstract:
This study aimed to analyzethe types and functions of code switching used by the actors and actress in Indonesian movie entitled “Bridezilla”. This study used descriptive qualitative method. In collecting the data, this study used document analysis method with checklist analysis form and taking a note as the instruments used. There 5 were steps done in order tocollect the data, such as watching movie, giving mark in the checklist analysis form, taking a note, giving explanation and conclusion based on the results of analysis. It was found that in “Bridezilia” movie consisted ofcode switching in 35 dialogs, there were three types of code switching, such as Tag-Switching13 dialogs, Inter-Sentential 10 dialogs and Intra-Sentential Switching in 12 dialogs. Meanwhile, there were 2 functions of code switching existed in the movie. It can be concluded that the existence of code switching in Indonesian movie indicating that the other language has big impact toward the first language.

Abstract:
This research focused on the analysis of the types of code-mixing and code-switching between Maudy Ayunda and Robert in the interview in Perspektif Metro TV on Monday 30th December 2019. The researcher applied sociolinguistic theory, especially the theories on types and reasons of code-mixing and code-switching proposed by Hoffman (1991) and how many codes in their utterances based on Myers-Scotton theory (2006). This research applied the descriptive qualitative method. After analyzing the data, there are 71 cases of code-mixing and 68 cases of code-switching. For the types of code-mixing, there is 63 intra-sentential, 15 intra-lexical and 3 involving a change in pronunciation. For types of code-switching, there is 64 inter-sentential, and 4 are established with the previous speaker. For the reasons of code-mixing/code-switching, the researcher found 31 data of talking about a particular topic, 1 data of quoting somebody else, 2 being emphatic about something, 6 of repetition used for classification and 1 of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor. For the matrix in code-mixing, Indonesian 82% as matrix language and English 18% as an embedded language, and in code-switching, Indonesian 54% as matrix language and English 46%as an embedded language.

Code-mixing or code-switching in English teaching and learning used in EFL classroom, especially to enhance understanding skill in English. Code-mixing and code-switching in teaching process will make language learning more meaningful and effective (Liu, 2008). Most studies of code-mixing and code-switching easily found in oral communication, such as in daily communication or formal situation. A lot of research on code-mixing and code-switching were not mention the specific process of those codes in learning process (Kim, 2006; Marzona, 2009; Saputro, 2013; Siregar and Sumarsih, 2014; Ansar, 2017; Oladosu, 2011; Mustain, 2011; Siskawati, 2021). The other gaps are most of the research sites were in junior high school and senior high school and others from television, newspaper, magazine, television program, etc. Then other different is they used teacher, students and group of society as the sample of research. In this research, lecturer of Department of English Education became sample of the research and university as site of the research. Objective of the research is to find out kind of code-switching uttered by the lecturer in teaching process at Department of English Education and the factors influencing code-switching. Method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the research are two lecturers of Department of English Education. The instrument consists of documentation of descriptive observation (by joining class group platform) and list of interviews on August 2021. In analyzing the data, the researcher observed the learning process through online platform, recorded the lecturer utterance, transcribed the recording, classified the data into kinds of code-switching used by the lecturer based on Romaine’s theory (1995), then calculated the percentage of each kind of code-switching. The researcher analyzed the factor why the lecturer used code-switching in teaching process based on the recording of interview and draw a conclusion by using Holme’s theory (1992). The result showed there are two types of code-switching used by the lecturer, namely inter-sentential switching (57,5%), intrasentential switching (42,5%), and there was not tag-switching. The data of interview showed the reason of lecturer used code-switching in teaching process because of the participant, setting or social context, topic, and function.

This research aimed to analyse code switching used by the students and the teacher in foreign language classroom. In detail, the researcher interest in finding the teacher’s language used, and the students’ language used. Then, it also observed the reason why they do code switching. This research was designed descriptively. The subject of this research was English teacher and the students at MAS Al Zahrah. The data of this research was the English teacher’ and the students’ utterances which contain code-switching. The instrument used was an audio-video recorder which recorded the classroom conversation. The results showed that the code mostly used by the English teachers and the students was Bahasa Indonesia. Then, the other dominant codes were English, switching English – Bahasa Indonesia, and switching Bahasa Indonesia – English. The finding of this research was the teacher and the students did code-switch more than target language in teaching learning process. They believe that code switching is an effective way in learning.

<p><strong>Abstract: </strong>This study aims to determine: (1) The type of code-switching and code-mixing used, (2) The function of code-switching and code-mixing used by teachers and students, (3) The reason teachers and students use code-switching and code-mixing. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection in this study was carried out by observation, questionnaire, and interview and then analyzed and describing the results. The results show: (1) The types of code-switching and code-mixing often used are the type of intrasentential code-switching is 50.7%. Furthermore, the type of code-mixing alternation is 46.2%. (2) The code-switching and code-mixing functions used by teachers and students are as easy communication as is 42.5%. Abstract:
This research aimed to analyze the types of code switching and code mixing and describe the reason of using them on facebook. This research designed by qualitative research with content analysis approach. The data were collected by documentation and interview. Based on data analysis there were 47 code switching and 61 code mixing. The types of code switching there were 14 data of intrasentential switching, 3 data of tag switching and 30 data of intersentential swicthing. The types of code mixing there were 43 data of insertion, 14 data of alternation and 4 data of congruent lexicalization. For the reasons that affected of using code switching and code mixing, there were indicating the level of education, to show prestige and to draw attention. As the result of research finding, intersentential switching and insertion are the most types that used on the facebook. the researher proposed a suggestion for the students to enrich their knowledge about sociolinguistics concerning code switching and code mixing and also as the source for the next researcher and the reader.
