Abstract:
Double ionisation of most of the experimentally accessible diatomic molecules has been studied previously by several techniques, including Auger spectroscopy, double electron transfer, kinetic energy release, and high-level theory. New double photoionisation spectra of HBr, HI, N2, CO, NO, O2, Br2, ICl, and I2 are presented here with analysis to identify the electronic states of the doubly charged ions. A simple empirical model is introduced to estimate double ionisation energies on the basis of orbital energies. For CO, NO, and O2, an indirect double ionisation mechanism is found, involving dissociation of a singly charged molecular ion followed by atomic autoionisation of one fragment. Energies of the dication states are listed with distinction between adiabatic and vertical values.

Cuthbert, Bruce N. The Nimh Research Domain Criteria Project. Edited by Dennis S. Charney, Eric J. Nestler, Pamela Sklar, and Joseph D. Buxbaum. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780190681425.003.0071.

Abstract:
The Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) project grew from recognized deficiencies in currently used diagnostic schemes for mental illness, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). While the latter is based on a series of signs and symptoms of illnesses that can co-occur in groups of individuals, without consideration of underlying biological factors, RDoC is based on the increasing ability to relate normal as well as abnormal behavior to particular molecules and circuits in the brain across animal species and humans. Behavioral domains include negative valence systems (e.g., fear and anxiety), positive valence systems (e.g., reward and motivation), cognitive systems, social processes, and arousal and regulatory systems, several of which might be affected in a given DSM disease classification. RDoC is seen as a step toward a “precision psychiatry,” where increasing knowledge of the genetic, molecular, cellular, and circuit basis of mental illness will yield biologically based diagnoses that offer important pathophysiological, treatment, and prognostic implications.

Full text
Abstract:
Atherosclerosis is a lipid-driven, chronic inflammatory disease of the large and middle-sized arteries that affects every human being and slowly progresses with age. The disease is characterized by the presence of atherosclerotic plaques consisting of lipids, (immune) cells, and debris that form in the arterial intima. Plaques develop at predisposed regions characterized by disturbed blood flow dynamics, such as curvatures and branch points. In the past decades, experimental and patient studies have revealed the role of the different cell-types of the innate and adaptive immune system, and of non-immune cells such as platelets, endothelial, and vascular smooth muscle cells, in its pathogenesis. This chapter highlights the roles of these individual cell types in atherogenesis and explains their modes of communication using chemokines, cytokines, and co-stimulatory molecules.

Haigh, Michael S. Fundamentals and Commodity Prices. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190656010.003.0006.

Full text
Abstract:
Commodity markets occasionally co-move with the broader macro markets for reasons beyond their own fundamentally driven physical characteristics. This chapter focuses on two related avenues to look beyond the fundamentals of counting barrels, tonnes, bushels, or molecules. The first section uses a principal component analysis to disentangle how fundamentals versus non-fundamentals drive commodity prices and focuses on the crude oil market. The results are intuitive and allow isolating the extent to which supply and demand matter to price changes experienced in the market. Furthermore, the results enable understanding whether the diversification benefits of commodity markets exist in almost real time. Second, given the ability to segment fundamentally driven commodities from others, the chapter focuses on how much supply or demand factors attribute to the fundamental variation in prices. The analysis reveals that, in the oil market, supply concerns drive prices during geopolitical tensions, while demand concerns dominate during economic crises.

Full text
Abstract:
Concepts of diagnosis and treatment of oligodendroglial tumours have changed through clinical and translational studies over recent years. Diagnosis is now based on histopathological and integrated molecular information. The latter includes mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase and the co-deletion of 1p/19q in the tumour tissue. In parallel, the long-term evaluation of large randomized trials performed in Europe and North America led to the current standard of a more aggressive chemoradiation regimen with procarbazine, CCNU (lomustine), and vincristine to optimize progression-free and overall survival. The future directions are delineated, which are aiming at further definition of prognostic and predictive subgroups, based on clinical, molecular, and imaging parameters, integrating immunotherapeutic concepts, as well as a closer look at patient-centred outcomes in upcoming trials.
