Abstract:
In general, libraries have taken a special interest from various educational institutions due to the key role that libraries play in terms of enriching the scientific aspects with different knowledge resources. The role of libraries is significantly can be seen in the fast information delivery for the recipients. Hence, the indexing and classifying of library resources is very important task because it contributes in enhancing the libraries performance. The classification of books (putting the book in the right class) is not an easy task, especially when the books are written in English. This research presents a model for books classification by using Association Rules techniques. The first stage of the research involved distributing a questionnaire for people who are working in libraries. The purpose of the questionnaire was to identify the difficulties that come with English books classification. The results of the questionnaire proved that there were number of obstacles in terms of English books classification process. After that we have collected an English books dataset to be employed in our model. Then the model has been implemented successfully and tested by given the title of the book. The results of the research proved that the model can put the book into the right class with ratio of (76%) and the error rate was (24%). That means it is possible to develop computer-based systems to classify the library resources. The results of the research open the way toward developing more sophisticated techniques and methods which can improve the performance of classifying the books electronically in an efficient manner that serves the librarians and users as well.

Abstract:
An art book is a type of editions that condenses mould-breaking, innovational, uncommon approaches of both uthor and publisher on the idea of creation of a specific book content. In practice it’s common (by mistake or on purpose) o use art book definition to classify each traditional book that is unique by all means. As a result, this confuses all participants of the publishing process. The aim of the research is to study whether all editions that are defined as art books correspond to this classification, and to consider all challenges that the editors are facing to. Using the methods of observation and analysis we have found out that the dozens of Ukrainian and foreign editions can or cannot be classified as art books. Using the systems analysis method this data became a background for revealing the consistent pattern in defining art books and editions that relate logically similar to them. The research results confirm a problem of non-conformances between the content of editions and their classification. The illustrated artistic or fiction editions are often classified to the category of art book. Their main essential and typological properties don’t allow us to designate them as art books. The scope of this problem testifies the unconscious usage of these categories, neglect of basic art book properties or blind following to current trends for manipulative purpose that influences the culture of art books publishing and readers’ expectations.

Kutsaieva, Tamara O. "Marginal Inscriptions as Objects of Museum Studies: the Case Study of the Library of the National Museum of Ukrainian History." SUMY HISTORICAL AND ARCHIVAL JOURNAL, no. 33 (2019): 14–23. http://dx.doi.org/10.21272/shaj.2019.i33.p.14.

Abstract:
The first attempt in the scientific practice of the National Museum Ukrainian History to conduct an individual and complex studying of marginal inscriptions has been done in this article. There is the case study of the Hand Press Books and antiquarian books from the library of the mentioned museum. The object of the study has been characterized and reasoning why the antiquarian books published in XIX century, but after 1830, have been chosen as the objects of this research, besides the classical objects of the study of marginal inscriptions (Hand Press Books and antiquarian books). Sources and historiography of the research as well as publications of the museum specialists have been systemized. The conclusion about the small attention of researchers to the library of the National Museum of Ukrainian History has been done too. The author of the article has substantiated one more conclusion about the absence of publications dedicated to the library as the source of information about the history of book printing in Ukraine or museum book collections = historical libraries beyond the museum. The generally accepted scientific criteria for the classification of marginal inscriptions have been generalized on the basis of historiography. Four additional criteria for studying marginal inscriptions have been proposed for the discussion. Challenges of the research have been analyzed in the main part of the article. There is the absence of attribution and fixation of the history of acceptance of the books in the museum library because of the specific status of all museum libraries in Ukraine; absence of a formal right to use such definitions of the Ukrainian legislation as the Rare and Valuable Books concerning the books published in XVIII – the early XIX centuries and some antiquarian books; problems of identifications of handwriting exactly as a marginal inscription, not a written bookplate (exlibris). Some samples to the mentioned challenges have been proposed. The author of the article has implemented the aim of the research and presented attribution of the marginal inscriptions in eleven Hand Press Books and three antiquarian books, including one handwritten antiquarian book – the object of this study. The content of the marginal inscriptions in Mykola Zakrevskyi‘s book “Depiction of Kyiv” (1868) – the most unique book from the point of view of the historical narrative as well as the invitation letter to Mykola Zakrevskyi (the object of the museum importance or so-called “Museum finding”) has been presented in this research. The maximum of available information about the content and classifications of the types of marginal inscriptions (handwritten, marginal glosses, and Marginal inscriptions of publishing houses) has been presented in the article too. Contribution in research and popularisation of the collection of the National Museum of Ukrainian History, studying of the history of a book as the object of the material and spiritual heritage, the personality of (less)known readers and reading cultures in different йpoques have been done based on the results of attribution, bibliographical description, and classification of the books, marginal inscriptions, and bookplates. Another essential result of the research is entering in the scientific circulation the Preliminary list of the Hand Press Books and antiquarian books with marginal inscriptions that have been chosen as the objects of this research. The stress on the urgent relevance of continuation of the complex studying of these books with the aim to give them the status of the Rare and Valuable Books through the entry in the State Register of the National Cultural Heritage has been done. The author has determined some perspectives of this research. They are a continuation of the complex studying of the marginal inscriptions, searching of new marginal inscriptions and fragments of historical libraries that nowadays are parts of the collection of the National Museum of Ukrainian History in other museums, archives, and libraries for contribution to the development of the museum communication and studying of Auxiliary Sciences of History. Keywords: bookplate, book research, in script, marginal inscription, National Museum of Ukrainian History.

Abstract:
The act of reading has benefits for individuals and societies, which can be a long-term commitment. While the overload of books information and readers’ specific needs make book recommendation (BR) in demand, BR is receiving great attention from the research community with different perspectives. The increasing amount of research conducted with BR calls for a classification methodology regarding trends and distribution in this field. This paper presents a study of recommender systems in the domain of BR. The main goal of this work is to provide authors with insights on the trends of academic literature reviews in the proposed context and to present a comparison of different research approaches. The authors searched for up-to-date research papers related to recommender systems for BR within a time period of eighteen years, from 2000 to 2018. Starting from 2000, a significant amount of research related to the subject field of recommender systems was conducted, which led to the first ACM Conference on Recommender Systems. After the filtering process, 39 papers were finally selected from journals, conferences and theses in five different academic databases (i.e. IEEE, ACM, Science Direct, Springer and ProQuest). The general classification is presented in this work, in order to describe the recommendation approaches for BR. This work can be extended in the future to include novel methodologies and trends of recommender systems for BR or other fields.

Abstract:
The Journal of Economic Literature codes classification system (JEL) published by the American Economic Association (AEA) is the de facto standard classification system for research literature in economics. The JEL classification system is used to classify articles, dissertations, books, book reviews, and working papers in EconLit, a database maintained by the AEA. Over time, it has evolved and extended to a system with over 850 subclasses. This paper reviews the history and development of the JEL classification system, describes the current version, and provides a selective overview of its uses and applications in research. The JEL codes classification system has been adopted by several publishers, and their instructions are reviewed. There are interesting avenues for future research as the JEL classification system has been surprisingly little used in existing bibliometric and scientometric research as well as in library classification systems.

Librarians spend a lot of time and efforts on new book bibliography. They choose moderate classification and subject headings for new books according to the rule from the manual and the experience from their career. This research offers an approach to build an automatic recommendation system to suggest classification codes and subject headings of new books. By the concept of information retrieval, we built the index of the bibliography data to search for the candidate classification codes and subject headings. After that, the system sort the candidate list to find the recommended results. The whole system is divided into 4 parts: data pre-process, data indexing, candidate retrieval & ranking process, and rule classification. The goal of this research is to help librarians’ daily work for new book bibliography and increase the efficiency of their works. Besides, the research also finds out some interesting issues for recommendation systems applied for the real library data set.

Abstract:
AbstractThe WHO Classification of Tumours (WCT) is a series of authoritative and concise reference books for the histological and molecular classification of tumors that underpins treatment and care of cancer patients, as well as research into cancer epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, and is essential for cancer diagnosis worldwide. This classification relies traditionally on consensus of pathological expert opinions as basis for cancer classification, but the understanding of cancer at a molecular level advances in prognosis, and other related fields have moved the WCT to find ways of translating diagnostic research into evidence synthesis that can effectively inform decisions relevant to the classification. Systematic reviews represent the top of the hierarchy of scientific evidence and allow to summarize evidence from many publications to inform decisions. This evidence-based approach is the cornerstone of evidence-based medicine and well established in many medical specialties. However, uptake of these principles within pathology has been slow, and such high-quality reviews of available evidence are not easily available for authors contributing to the WCT. In an effort to overcome reluctance in the field to adopt these methods, a collaborative project between the Advanced Oncology program of the University of Ulm in Germany, the Cochrane Netherlands, the Universidad de Campinas in Brazil, and the WCT has been started. This project called Evi-Pat (Evidence-Based Pathology Training Initiative) aims to develop and evaluate an online training for oncologists and pathologists to train them in the application of evidence-based practice to pathology and related specialties, thereby addressing and overcoming challenges in this, and to pathology, novel approach. Scientific and didactic evaluation of such an effective training tool for online-educated pathologists and oncologists will improve the evidence base in pathology and hence provide a solid foundation for diagnostic and prognostic decision-making. We believe that an evidence-based approach to informing key decisions that feed into tumor classification will allow the WCT editorial board to mitigate the potential inclusion of biased decisions into the classification and also benefit authors by providing structured, transparent, and reliable methods for the synthesis of available evidence for each tumor type, as the same time training to apply these methodologies.

AbstractAs stipulated by G. Stoops, “the aim of micropedology is to contribute to solving problems related to the genesis, classification and management of soils, including soil characterization in palaeopedology and archaeology. The interpretation of features observed in thin sections is the most important part of this type of research, based on an objective detailed analysis and description” (Stoops et al. 2018). To answer such questions, two major books contributed to the comparative knowledge necessary to tackle this objective: the first one was published in 1985 and used micromorphology to distinguish between different classes of soils (Douglas and Thompson 1985); the second one is an extensive guide of more than 1000 pages to the interpretation of micromorphological features encountered in thin sections of soil (Stoops et al. 2018). The aim of this Atlas is neither to be a substitution for these books nor a way to enter directly into the interpretation of soil genesis and classification. Nonetheless, this chapter presents the imprints of major soil processes that can be easily deduced from specific features observed in thin sections. These processes involve the dynamics of (a) clay, both translocation and swelling, (b) water, such as waterlogging, evaporation, and its role as ice and frost, (c) carbonate, gypsum, and iron oxyhydroxides, and finally (d) biogeochemical reactions within the solum.

AbstractThe introductory chapter describes the motivation behind this book and provides a brief outline of the main argument. The book offers a novel categorisation of artificial intelligence that lends itself to a classification of ethical and human rights issues raised by AI technologies. It offers an ethical approach based on the concept of human flourishing. Following a review of currently discussed ways of addressing and mitigating ethical issues, the book analyses the metaphor of AI ecosystems. Taking the ecosystems metaphor seriously allows the identification of requirements that mitigation measures need to fulfil. On the basis of these requirements the book offers a set of recommendations that allow AI ecosystems to be shaped in ways that promote human flourishing.

Abstract:
AbstractSocioeconomic segregation has become a common phenomenon, both in the Global North and Global South, and highly relates to income inequality. The merging of these two notions affects the geography of residential areas which are based on the socio-occupational composition. This chapter focuses on the Jakarta Metropolitan Area (JMA). Not only is Jakarta the largest metropolitan area in Southeast Asia, it is also one of the most dynamic. Batavia, the colonial capital of the former Dutch East Indies in the first half of the twentieth century, was a small urban area of approximately 150,000 residents. In the second half of the century, Batavia became Jakarta, a megacity of 31 million people and the capital of independent Indonesia was beset with most of the same urban problems experienced in twenty-first-century Southeast Asia, including poverty, income inequality, and socioeconomic segregation. This study aims to identify the correlation among income inequality, socioeconomic segregation, and other institutional and contextual factors which caused residential segregation in JMA. The analysis consists of two stages. First, we examine income inequality measured by the Gini Index as well as the occupational structure based on the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO). Second, we investigate residential segregation by using the Dissimilarity Index as a result of socioeconomic intermixing in residential areas. The data in this study comes from multiple sources including Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics, Indonesia’s National Socio-economic Survey (Susenas), Indonesia’s Economic Census, Jakarta’s Regional Bureau of Statistics, and policies related to the housing system and investment in the JMA. This study also produces maps of socioeconomic segregation patterns from several sources including Jakarta’s Geospatial Information Centre, Jakarta’s Spatial Plan Information System, and the Indonesian Poverty Map by the SMERU Research Institute.

Abstract:
This chapter is proposed as a response to the demand of research in the field of bilingual mathematics education, specifically centered on the analysis of bilingual teaching resources. Regarding the recent appearance of bilingual programs and the representativity bilingual centres currently have in the region of Andalusia (Spain), it is necessary to know the nature of the pedagogical resources that are being used. Thus, the authors selected three series of mathematics textbooks (bilingual and non-bilingual, for the 1st grade of secondary education) that were analyzed by classifying the set of mathematical activities they contain. For the comparison among textbooks, authors used a classification that splits the sample into seven different types of tasks. Additionally, for each task the level of cognitive demand was also indicated. The results show that, although there are slight differences between bilingual and monolingual books, most of the learning opportunities offered in all of them are based on routine activities rather than on more cognitively demanding problems.

Abstract:
This essay attempts to evidence the remaining echoes of the reception of Mendeleev’s periodic classification in Portugal during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The research involved the identification of remaining traces at different higher-level teaching institutions as well as with books, textbooks, and programs from beginner’s level to advanced level that appeared in the period between 1876 and 1904. Following the institutionalization of chemistry as an independent scientific discipline in Portugal, after the 1772 reform of Coimbra University, the 1844 reform of the university serves as a breath of fresh air in terms of the study of chemistry as being split into different chemistry specialties, an action much related to developments abroad. By 1851 the Coimbra professor J. A. Simões de Carvalho (1822–1902) was opposing chemistry being taught at the university with French textbooks. Instead, he wrote a modernized text, which included recent research for chemical philosophy lessons and advocated a much greater “attention to the day-to-day communications in scientific journals and newsletters than to more complete and extensive manuals.” In the two decades immediately before the period we are interested in, there was a resurgence of the country’s economy and some developments also affected the still unique university. In this context, reform of curricula took place and a positivist wind blew through the faculties, starting in the Law Faculty and then spreading to the other faculties with a symptomatic decline in the influence of the Canonical Faculty. The Law Faculty had the biggest number of students and several of its members took up higher administrative or governmental positions. The intellectual atmosphere of the Faculty of Natural Philosophy was deeply impregnated with positivism, whereby it was intended to regenerate the sciences body. The program of sending some of its members abroad was reactivated, to keep them up to date with the modern experimental sciences, particularly chemistry, while some foreign staff came to work in the university.

Abstract:
The ability to evict noxious stimulus increases the likelihood of surviving. It is the result of interactions between specialized cells, the spinal cord, and the brain. Nociceptive pain is related to direct injury of the body. Other forms of pain may not be linked to visible injury. Being multidimensional in nature, classification attempts are unable to embark the plethora of elements that constitute pain. Pain theories can explain the nociceptive quality of it while failing to explain other qualities. Efforts culminated in the development of gate control theory, which spawned many advances in pain management. Assessment tools are useful to determine the intensity of pain and its impact on quality of life. Judicious use of these scales allows healthcare professionals to proper manage patients pain and are validated instruments widely used in research. This short review aims to expand awareness about the phenomenon of pain, its mechanisms, and its measurement.

Abstract:
Abstract In 1971, Roth and his group first proposed an algorithmic selection procedure for the design of mechanical systems using catalogues. Core element were Design Catalogues that provide established solution elements, models and operations for different engineering tasks. In different books and guidelines, the theory of Design Catalogues was promoted and comprehensive catalogues were elaborated. These works highlight the basic character as structured information bases, with knowledge and access criteria tailored to the needs of engineering tasks. An essential characteristic is the consequent classification of solutions, objects, and operations and thus a complete exploration of the area of interest. In science and industrial practice, Design Catalogues were recognized as tools to structure knowledge and improve reuse of solutions, operations or objects that are frequently used in the design process. This contribution analyses the use and evolution of Design Catalogues in the past 50 years. Main objective is to point out how Design Catalogues and underlying principles and tools to structure design knowledge were used in different fields of application. Moreover, future fields of research to classify knowledge elements and identify suitable access criteria to build up Design Catalogues will be pointed out.

Abstract:
The present research deals with the publication “Kharkiv calendar” as one of the specific sources of local history. It should be rightfully attributed as a separate type of periodicals – “statistical-information collection”. Similar publications were spread in almost all regions of the Russian Empire in the 19th and early 20th centuries and were named “calendars” or “memorable books”. They have their own specifics and therefore need special approach for their study. According to his own experience, the author presents certain directions of investigation of these sources. It may be suggested the following steps of work with them: identifying of the specificity and transformations of the structure of these sources (separation of traditional and novel rubrics); analysis of balance between local, all-imperial and worldwide data (there was dynamics of this information); classification of scientific and popular-science materials; periodization of functioning of periodicals; focus on specificity of gathering of statistical information that had published in these collections.

Abstract:
The field of light transport simulation quickly growths in last decades. Nowadays there are about hundreds of books and papers that are quite difficult to cover for applied researcher or developer. Unlike similar surveys, in this paper we make attempt to provide short roadmap to select the best method for some light transport problem based on scene and calculated phenomena constraints. In our paper we propose several classifications for light transport simulation algorithms based on their mathematical properties, robustness and required scene constraints. These classifications help to understand advantages, disadvantages and limitations of the methods. In this paper we use not only a survey of existing works but also our own experience with the methods that we have implemented over the last decade in different software products. Some results of our experiments are shown in the paper. Finally, we propose a short guide for method selection in form of block scheme.

Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to examine the structure of an expert model of exercises designed to eliminate the Lack of specific ski movement mistake in short ski turn, as well as offer a hierarchical classification of the expert model. For this purpose, a two-stage research was conducted. During the first stage of the research the exercises with the purpose of Lack of specific ski movement mistake elimination were designed by 20 skiing experts aged 25 to 45. By means of email and coordinated by the paper author, the experts first designed a model of 14 methodical exercises and subsequently selected the five most relevant ones, ranking them on a scale from 1 to 5. A nonparametric chi - square test (χ2) was used. The research showed there was no significant variation across the experts’eval-uation of the five most important methodical exercises (χ2 = 21,69; p = 0,06). The expert model of the most important methodical exercises for the Lack of specific ski movement mistake correction thus includes the following: Holding a ski stick under the handle, Jump turns, Hands on hips, Unbuttoned ski boots and Ski poles in vertical position in forwards. 307 skiing professionals of various levels of expertise participated in the second stage of the research, whose aim was to classify the Lack of specific ski movement mistake elimi-nation exercises. The participants’task was to rank the exercises based on their relevance. Total amounts of rank sums (ΣR) were calculated, the Kruskal-Wallis test (H-test) was car-ried out, and the corresponding levels of significance (p) were recorded, for the purpose of comparing the significance of diversity between rank sums and the expert model. The sta-tistically significant difference was found between the rank sums (ΣR) of the most eficient exercises for the Lack of specific ski movement mistake correction (H = 198,19; p < 0,001). The results obtained in the two stages of the research provide valuable insights regarding the methods of short ski turns. The hierarchical classification of the most important method-ical corrective exercises obtained from ski teachers and professionals with different levels of education and expertise yields accurate and precise data about corrective methodical exercises in the process of studying short ski turn. Any further research regarding the same object should evaluate the designed expert model of the most important methodical exer-cises, as well as their hierarchical classification, across different groups of participants.

Full text
Abstract:
BIM uses are complex specific processes in architecture, engineering, construction, and operation mediated by Building Information Modeling technologies. Several initiatives are dedicated to detailing these uses in a standardized way, enumerating and describing them in terms of scope, benefits, process maps, required competencies, associated technology, and theoretical framework. Examples of these efforts are Penn State's Computer Integrated Construction Research Program (MESSNER et al., 2019), buildingSMART (2021), and BIM Excellence Organization (SUCCAR; SALEEB; SHER, 2016). This study presents the approach to educate, evaluate and assist Model Uses using templates (Model Use Templates - MUT) of the BIM Excellence Initiative (BIMe). The BIM use is called Model Use in BIMe terminology. In three years, starting in 2021, the initiative intends to detail all the domain model uses listed by the organization (BIMe, 2020). The domain model uses are organized in the series of capture and representation, planning and design, simulation and quantification, operation and maintenance, monitoring and control of buildings and infrastructures. In terms of domain model uses, there is the linking and extending series of BIM integrated to Facility Management, interfaced with the Internet of Things, linked to Enterprise Resource Planning, etc. The initiative developed a Construction Domain Model Use Template (MUT) and applied it as a demonstration for Clash Detection or MUT 4040. This summary will describe the template, its application to Clash Detection, and guidance on how to transform it into a template class to teach Clash Detection with BIM. The MUT consists of an extended description, software list, activity flow, and bibliography. This content is available in the BIM Dictionary associated with the equivalent term (https://bimdictionary.com/en/clash-detection/1). The extended description includes the corresponding term's definition, the detailed description, purpose, and an available online media-list. The detailed description presents the different types of use (e.g., hard, soft, time-based) and benefits. The software list lists platforms and environments used in the model use development. For each platform or environment, there is a list of the vendor or developer, the corresponding technical functionality, the applicable discipline, the software description, the availability of the software in the cloud or location, differentiation of versions, the link to the official website, the model use code that the software can support, specific functionalities associated with the use and availability of a plugin or extension. The activity flow is described using a process map and details in up to 3 hierarchical levels for each macro activity. All the terminology adopted in the MUT is semantically aligned to the various projects and initiatives of BIM Excellence, bringing consistency to the meaning. In the case of MUT 4040, that is, the application of the template for the model use of Clash Detection, the short description is a “Use of the Model representing the use of 3D Models to coordinate different disciplines (e.g., structures and air-conditioning) and to identify/resolve possible conflicts between virtual elements prior to actual construction or fabrication”. The extended description presents the Clash Detection as automated or semi-automated procedures to identify design errors in 3D models, where objects occupy the same space or are too close to violating spatial restrictions. Time-based interferences are conflicts involving temporary objects that compete for the same space at the same time. The benefits are listed, for example, like better project coordination and quality; conflict reduction in the workplace; acceleration of design and delivery processes; and cost reduction through productivity increase. The available online media does not represent the entire process involved in Clash Detection and are generally restricted to confronting models on specific platforms. We advocate that the activity flow should structure the class of model uses in BIM education. In this way, there is a holistic and representative approach to practice. Thus, we advise escaping this model's understanding in a restricted and instrumental way, as it already occurs in most of the online media found. We propose to organize the class program by the macro stages of the activity flow, covering: (i) creation of the strategy for the clash detection in the project in question; (ii) preparation of specific models for federation; (iii) identification of federation environments or model integration; (iv) federation or integration of models; (v) checks for interference in the federated or integrated model; (vi) analysis of the conflicts identified; and (vii) referral to conflict resolution. The details of each of these activities in the template can guide the teacher on how to proceed or prepare educational content. The bibliography listed in the template covers the theoretical framework to support the class in terms of books, scientific articles, and BIM guides. One can develop the class at the level of graduation, extension, or continuing education. Being an undergraduate class, it can be mandatory or elective. Items (i) to (iii) make up the theoretical part of the class, and the rest are essentially practical content. Thus, two types of competency assessment are possible: knowledge and skills. Knowledge can be developed through discussions and seminars. Skills covered are associated with execution or domain skills, according to Succar, Scher, and Willams (2013). Execution skills are associated with learning model verification platforms and collaboration environments. The execution competence generates an instrumental skill that can be provided through individual online training with tutorials. Domain skills are essentially technical (analysis and simulation) and functional (collaboration). These skills must be instigated in a participatory and collaborative way in practical exercises involving cycles of verification of the federated model and adjustments of complementary projects' models. As a suggestion for support material, the teacher should prepare a dataset including models with errors in file naming disobeying conventions, errors in the control elements impacting the overlapping of models, errors of omission or duplication of elements in the models, and errors of data schema in terms of categorization of elements and classification of content. The models must also include issues of all types (hard, soft, and temporal interferences). Errors must be plausible to be identified by different types of verification: visual or script. Motel-Klingebiel, Andreas, and Gerhard Naegele. Exclusion and inequality in late working life in the political context of the EU. Linköping University Electronic Press, November 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.3384/9789179293215.

Full text
Abstract:
European societies need to increase the participation in work over the life course to support the provision of qualified labour and to meet the challenges for social security systems under the condition of their ageing populations. One of the key ambitions is to extend people’s working lives and to postpone labour market exit and retirement where possible. This requires informed policies, and the research programme EIWO – ‘Exclusion and Inequality in Late Working Life: Evidence for Policy Innovation towards Inclusive Extended Work and Sustainable Working Conditions in Sweden and Europe’ – aims to push the boundaries of knowledge about late working life and the potential of its inclusive and equal prolongation via a theoretically driven, gender-sensitive combination of multi-level perspectives. EIWO takes a life course approach on exclusion and inequality by security of tenure, quality of work, workplaces, and their consequences. It identifies life course policies, promoting lifelong learning processes and flexible adaptation to prolong working lives and to avoid increased exclusion and inequality. Moreover, it provides evidence for policies to ensure both individual, company and societal benefits from longer lives. To do so, EIWO orientates its analyses systematically to the macro-political contexts at the European Union level and to the policy goals expressed in the respective official statements, reports and plans. This report systematizes this ambitious approach. Relevant documents such as reports, green books and other publications of the European Commission (EC), the European Parliament (EP), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as those of social partners and research institutions, have been systematically scanned and evaluated. In addition, relevant decisions of European summits have been considered. The selection of documents claims completeness regarding relevant and generally available publication, while relevance is defined from the point of view of EIWO’s interests. It is the aim of this report to provide a sound knowledge base for EIWO’s analyses and impact strategies and to contribute to the emerging research on the connection between population ageing and the European policies towards productivity, inclusiveness, equity, resilience and sustainability. This report aims to answer the following questions: How are EIWO’s conceptual classification and programme objectives reflected in the European Union’s policy programming? How can EIWO’s analyses and impact benefit from a reference to current EU policy considerations, and how does this focus support the outline of policy options and the formulating of possible proposals to Swedish and European stakeholders? The present report was written during early 2022; analyses were finalized in February 2022 and represent the status until this date.
