Abstract:
For almost 60 years, the city of Gorizia has been divided by the state border separating Italy and Slovenia, where on the other side, the twin city of Nova Gorica has developed. In the past, these two urban realities have not been communicating on the urban and architectonic levels, negating each other’s existence, but are now a continuous entity and must find new ways to grow and develop together, even if they belong to two different nations. The University of Trieste, along with the Comune di Gorizia (Gorizia municipality), has developed a laboratory called the RRR lab, with the objective to redevelop and regenerate those urban spaces and buildings that have been put back in play after the fall of the border and the new urban geography that it has created. It is a landscape made up of areas and structures without use or significance, generated by the Dadaist collage of the two cities, that together were, at the time of the laboratory, candidates for the 2025 European Capital of Culture. Starting from this specific case, a more general theme of the research deals with the void. This aspect is easily recognizable in its architecture, where for the purpose of the quality of the work, the single parts that make up a building are not as important as the spaces that are indirectly determined by them. The void, then, can assume an architectonic quality and become the element on which to base the opening principle, “where there is nothing, everything is possible”.

Abstract:
This article presents the results of a study developed around the general theme of the future of large shopping centers in relation to the current transformations of territory and city in Italy. Specifically, the research deals with outdoor spaces, those enormous technical and service spaces strictly connected to the commercial "big-boxes". The focus of the research is therefore on the large parking areas, the roads, the manoeuvring and service areas for sales: the large asphalt slabs that surround the commercial volumes. The research starts from the specific case study of the large shopping center "Tiare" in Villesse, Gorizia (one of the largest in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region) and then extends to the development of a more general and scientifically articulated modelling. The objective was to translate the initial retrospective study (origins and development of shopping centers) and the design explorations developed in the academic sphere and through workshops on the potential of the case study into strategies, exportable to other contexts. The spaces involved are considerable, amounting to 2-3 times the sales area, i.e., parking lots of 30-40-60 hectares, the same extension of an entire town. From this it is easy to understand the importance of the architectural design on other disciplines, and the need to question "if and how" these spaces can also become something else, if they can also have a social role due the dimensional-territorial entity, and specifically, recovering the American tradition from Gruen onwards, if they can assume the role and function of a meeting place. The research allowed the identification of methodologies for the transformation of car parks into meeting points: the creation of a landmark, densification and screening. In addition, the results obtained offer possible new developments for these places that can be identified in the following macro-strategies: the re-urbanisation of peripheral commercial nodes, neural development between city and shopping centre, parallel and autonomous development of shopping malls and cities, commercial development and urban erosion.

Abstract:
Four strains of Gram-staining-positive, anaerobic rods were isolated from the faeces of western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla). Three strains, KZ01T, KZ02 and KZ03, were isolated at the Kyoto City Zoo, Japan, and one strain, GG02, was isolated in the Moukalaba-Doudou National Park, Gabon. These strains were investigated taxonomically. These strains belonged to the Lactobacillus reuteri phylogenetic group according to phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and specific phenotypic characteristics. Phylogenetic analysis of their 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strains KZ01T, KZ02, KZ03 and GG02 formed a single monophyletic cluster and had a distinct line of descent. Based on sequence similarity of the 16S rRNA gene, Lactobacillus fermentum JCM 1173T (96.6 %) was the closest neighbour to these novel strains, although it was clear that these strains belonged to a different species. Partial pheS sequences also supported these relationships. DNA–DNA relatedness between strain KZ01T and L. fermentum JCM 1173T was less than 22 % and the DNA G+C content of strain KZ01T was 50.7 mol%. The cell-wall peptidoglycan type was A4β (l-Orn–d-Asp) and the major fatty acids were C16 : 0, C18 : 1ω9c and C19 : 1 cyclo 9,10. Therefore, based on phylogenetic, phenotypic and physiological evidence, these strains represent a novel species of the genus Lactobacillus , for which the name Lactobacillus gorillae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is KZ01T ( = JCM 19575T = DSM 28356T).

Abstract:
One of the characteristics of a community in a big city is the desire to live a healthy life, one of them is exercising by visiting a fitness center that has complete sports facilities and adequate equipment. with the increasing interest of the community to exercise the obstacles faced by fitness center providers are the complexity of handling membership, managing difficult training schedules and the limited information available regarding the management of a fitness center. to overcome these obstacles the author designed a membership administration information system at the fitness center by using the Agile Development methodology so that the system designed to be completed quickly and changes that often occur can be addressed immediately, this study uses a unified modeling language (UML) to design and document the system. As for the software used for system design is PHP web programming so that it can be accessed from anywhere and anytime with database management using MySql. So it is expected that the results of this study are membership fitness administration information system that is expected to help the manager in facilitating membership administration.

Full text
Abstract:
In the current situation the district heating system supplies the 32% of the total thermal consumption in the City of Velika Gorica. The main issue in the district heating system is the utilization of 14 small and distributed heat plants, each providing heat to a separate and individually disconnected heating grid. Reduction of costs and CO2 emissions can be reached with a high penetration of renewable sources. The aim of this paper is to evaluate and design the integration of a Central Solar Heating Plant with Seasonal Storage into the district heating system of the City. An economic assessment was made with a pessimistic and an optimistic prediction of the solar heat cost for ground mounted collectors and roof mounted collectors. The seasonal storage was chosen to be pit thermal energy storage; the system was modeled as a low-temperature district heating system with the real thermal demands of a district heating plant.

Abstract:
In water supply systems, pressure management in most cases is proven to be the most cost-effective activity related to water loss control. As an advanced method of pressure control, it is possible to use variable frequency drives for centrifugal pump control. Pressure regulation can be performed with constant pressure or with proportional pressure control. The application of proportional pressure control is particularly applicable in water supply systems as the operating pump performance is constantly adapting the pressure to the actual demand. Along with lower leakage losses, it also results in lower energy consumption and the elimination of non-stationary phenomena, thereby extending the pump lifetime. Therefore, the paper presents a theoretical discussion of the proportional pressure control. Possible savings are shown on the numerical example of water supply system of the city of Velika Gorica.

Abstract:
This paper analyses the short story “The Bear Came Over the Mountain” by Alice Munro and its film adaptation Away from Her by Sarah Polley. The starting point of our analysis is the complexity of spaces of the nursing home and their representation, both in the literary text and the film, with the focus on the representation of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Through such a juxtaposition, the aim is to show that the space of the nursing home, apart from being used as a lens through which we can examine the position assigned to old and ill people, holds the potential to think about nursing homes not as static places, where no new developments occur, but rather as places which allow for a more complex and diverse consideration of ageing. Abstract:
“Do women have to be naked to get into the Metropolitan museum?” foi a questão colocada pelas Guerrilla Girls a todos os habitantes de Nova Iorque com o objetivo de abalar a consciência artística.

Abstract:
The purpose: to study the Japanese experience of regional development and planning in the context of sustainable development on the example of Fukuoka Prefecture. Methods. Were used methods of analysis geography, regional and international studies. Among them: systematic (consideration of the balanced economic complex of the prefecture as an integrated system), literary (selection and analysis of literary sources, relevant to the research topic), descriptive (determining the location of objects and types of economic activity, their description), cartographic (the use of maps as figuratively-symbolic models of the territory, can purposefully display social objects, phenomena, connections and interdependencies related to a certain territory), comparative (data collection and their preliminary assessment). Results. Fukuoka Prefecture is known for its environmental initiatives, the development of modern technologies and related industries, as well as the successful overcoming of the problems of environmental pollution as a result of industrial growth. Fukuoka, in particular the city of Kitakyushu, successfully used the program of the Japanese government "Gorika" ("reconstruction"). Its main goal was the closure of all mines and the restoration of other obsolete metallurgy and manufacturing industries in the country. This program was introduced due to the aggravation of environmental problems and the movement of Japan towards a major environmental disaster. Thus, the “reconstruction” of the Japanese government became an impetus for local governments, the public and representatives of local companies in Fukuoka Prefecture, who came together to subsequently create good working and living conditions for the population. The result was a reorientation of industry, in particular, an increase in the share of manufacturing, automotive, services, high-tech industries, as well as the involvement of young highly qualified personnel with their subsequent development. Scientific novelty. To compare Ukraine with the prefecture of Fukuoka is inappropriate, but studying its development experience, overcoming the problems of depressed territories, environmental pollution and searching for new growth paths for further prosperity is relevant and useful for our state. Practical significance. Fukuoka Prefecture has overcome many of the problems inherent in Ukraine now. Therefore, her experience for Ukraine is an opportunity to take successful initiatives, as well as to avoid unnecessary mistakes. Our state is only embarking on the path of sustainable development, so research and use of the best world practices is relevant.

Abstract:
This paper discusses an interesting silver fragment showing an image of a saint which was found a few years ago in the rectory of the island of Olib. Based on a thorough comparison of the fragment with similar liturgical objects from the wider area of Zadar, especially with the processional cross from Vlašići (Pag), the authoress proposes that the fragment once belonged to a Gothic proccessional cross dating from the end of the 14th century and that it was nailed as the middle part of its reverse side. The image of the saint depicted on this fragment is identified, based partly on the place of its discovery, with the patron saint of the parish of Olib, St.Anastasia. This identification is further strenghtened also by an iconographical analysis of various depictions of St. Ananstasia in Romanesque and Gothic art of Zadar and its area, especially in goldsmiths’ work of the time, where there are relatively many of her images considering that St. Anastasia was the patron saint of Zadar cathedral, where her relic was treasured for centuries, and also one of four main patron saints of this important Adriatic city. That analysis led to the conclusion that there was a certain evolutive change in the depiction of the saintly patroness during that era, and that, starting form ourfragment and the end of the 14th century, she is more often adorned with a book as her standard attribute. It was also noted that the image depicted on the Olib fragment may, perhaps, be identified with St. Catherine of Alexandria who was also often depicted with a book. Namely, she was the patron saint of a church in Novigrad, a small medieval town situated in the hinterland of Zadar, whence its inhabitants could have brought a whole cross, or solely this fragment, centuries after its making, as C. F. Bianchi recorded thet they brought to Olib a worshipped painting when fleeing from the Turks. This move of the local treasure from Novigrad to Olib in times of crisis and flight would thus coincide with the same practice of the move of the processional cross from Gorica to Pašman, as proposed by N. Jakšić. The stumbling stone of this theory is, of, course, the existence of the 14th century processional cross in Novigrad, with very similar image of St. Catherine on its reverse. Although she is iconographically coherent with the saintly image on the fragment from Olib, it is rather difficult toexplain the making of two similar processional crosses in such a short period of time, since the evident stylistic and tehnical differences between the two images allow only for a short time difference. On the other hand, if the saint on the Olib fragment indeed is St. Anastasia, this would mean that the parish church of Olib regularly refurbished its liturgical equipment during the period of less than two centuries, since one processional cross from Olib older than our fragment has also survived, still partly Romanesque in its morphology and iconography, as well as has survived the late 15th century cross attributed to Toma Martinov, goldsmith from Zadar, whose style is already Rennaissance in many aspects. In course of the search for the images of St. Anastasia in the medieval goldsmiths’ work of Zadar it was also observed that the long established iconographical identification of the figures depicted on the luxurious bishop’s staff of the archbishop Maffeo Vallaresso (1460) has to be partially revised.

Abstract:
Ulrich Beck represented cosmopolitan society as overcoming the nation-states as the container of the respective civil societies. In order to understand these profound changes, sociology itself appears inadequate, populated as it is by definitions that Beck considers as zombie concepts: “the conceptual apparatus of the sociology of modernity appears in crisis because it is inadequate to describe the situation of societies in which the borders of the nation-states that contained them have dissolved in an extremely rapid period. Rather than a definitive departure from that sociology, Beck’s invitation to the international community of sociologists is to recalibrate their concepts in a cosmopolitan perspective» (Porcelli 2005: 8). The social contract, which was at the base of the construction of what Anderson defined the imagined communities, sanctioned the renunciation by the populations of part of their prerogatives of freedom favouring the security guaranteed by the sovereign power. The present global health emergency seems to have proposed the same social pact: more security and less freedom, especially people segregated within the resurging nation-states by new borders and walls. The remaining residue of globalisation is its economic-financial globalism. Ethnographic analysis along border areas reveals a consolidated cross-border identity experienced in people’s everyday lives as a tactic of resistance against the erection of new self-containment barriers. This contribution aims to analyse the salient aspects of this phenomenon in the city of Gorizia, which for decades has constituted an integrated metropolitan area of the Italian and Slovenian zones, defining a specific cross-border identity shared by both Italian and Slovenian citizens. This identity has not given way in front of the walls that have been restored in recent months in order to contain the contagion and therefore could represent what de Certeau defined as a tactic of resistance that in the present case bears witness to the invention of an increasingly cosmopolitan daily life. In this respect, the main points of the project book submitted for the candidacy of Gorizia-Nova Gorica as European Capital of Culture 2025 will be examined. The title of the bid book itself specifies the cosmopolitan identity of the area under analysis: “Go borderless”.

Abstract:
Objectives: we analyze all possible, multifactorial correlations between COVID-19 pandemic and epidemiological in-hospital epidemiologic variations in ischemic heart disease burden. Design: we developed a simple retrospective study surveying all acute coronary syndrome cases reporting an epidemiological analysis of a single center University Italian Hospital located in northest area of Italy in the city of Gorizia, comparing data collected in a period of two months (February and March) about definite diagnosis of myocardial infarction in the years 2019 and 2020 (COVID- 19 peak exposure interval) respectively. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data regarding the two months of February and March 2020 about admissions to our Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) with confirmed diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. Differences among the two study periods were assessed using the χ2 test. Statistical significances were set at p< 0.05. All analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS software version 24.0 (IBM Corp. Armonk, NY, USA). Results: we showed a remarkable decrease of acute coronary syndrome cases diagnosed and admitted to our Intensive Cardiac Care Unit when comparing the interval period between February and March 2019 to the same months of 2020 . This rate was significantly lower than either the rate during the earlier period in the same year (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.63 to 0.80; P<0.001). Conclusions: we showed an overall decrease of diagnosis of acute coronary syndromes during CODIV-19 pandemic; we relate this amount decrease of diagnosis to general underuse of cardiologic public services leading to reduced number of admissions for acute coronary syndrome cases and possibly undertreatment and death of out-of-hospital, “silenced” critical clinical cardiologic pictures due to generalized fear of COVID-19 in-hospital contagion.

Abstract:
From 1957 to 1973, Barcelona Zoo was transformed from a small-scale, antiquated establishment harboring very few animals, a place that was still in a poor condition following the Spanish Civil War, into a new, larger, modern, and internationally recognized institution that included up-to-date animal enclosures and that boasted one of the first dolphinariums in Europe, as well as a famous white gorilla as its icon. From its very beginning, this renovation involved an intense popularization campaign. In this paper, by describing the public discourse generated throughout this transformation and by analyzing the roles played by Antoni Jonch, the director of the zoo at that time; Josep Maria de Porcioles, the then-mayor of Barcelona; and General Francisco Franco, the Spanish dictator who was head of state during this period, I will highlight how the context of the dictatorship not only authorized the new Barcelona Zoo but is, in fact, crucial to its understanding. The narratives that surrounded the renovation of the zoo focused on its civic and educational purpose, with a firm emphasis on modernity. The zoo was a modern space for learning about animals in order to become better people. These narratives were not only suitable to the policies, ideas, and aims of Porcioles’ City Council and Franco’s dictatorial regime; in fact, they completely matched them. Both local and national governments benefited from the restructuring of Barcelona Zoo and from its public discourse as a tool for social control and an instrument for their own propaganda, legitimation, and perpetuation.
