Full textThe spread of cities into the countryside is evident in Italy and in Europe (EEA, 2006). The extension of the scale of human relationships, as well. (Hall and Pain, 2006). The data, although uncertain, testify, even in our country, the “rhythm of urbanization" incessant” (ONCS, 2009). The need to regulate relations between rural and urban areas is not recent, but its satisfaction assumes a new importance and, in some cases, an obvious urgency. Early models of land use planning adopted in Italy, influenced by theoretical approaches not free of an ideological, have often underestimated the actual feasibility of an ideal design in a real context (Benevolent, 2010). The promotion of urban transformation of rural areas or the containment of urbanization have obtained, at least in Italy, the planned result (ibid.). In time, there is a modification of the approach in disciplinary matters of territorial government, and with it, there was (and still is observed) the constant innovation of tools and standards (Oliva, 2008). However, it notes an obvious methodological weaknesses in order to read the relationship between cities and countryside. Two categories, inherited from the past, which tend to confirm at the extremes of the spatial continuum that today represents the portion of the prevailing contemporary context. This continuum is difficult to interpret. It is necessary to read the new functions of urban campains (Donadieu, 2006), to point out the localization indifference of many economic activities, to take note of the increased ecological vulnerability of contemporary territories, where the levels of pressure on natural resources, starting from the land, are now unsustainable. A dichotomous reading, unique and restrictive, of these new territories appears forced: rurality and urbanity are not (more) dimensions autonomous, indeed, they overlap and produce very different outcomes. Mapping and interpreting these changes is very complex. Moreover, the rurality can not be considered so as residual and passive. Today it is a dynamic and active counterpart, despite the weaknesses of the endogenous primary sector. Likewise, the urbanity, and in particular, its traditional ability to attract several resources appears in crisis. Instead there is a varied "middle space" that is seeking new ways to representation. They follow the partial worthlessness or the difficult applicability of rigid forms of territorial organization based on a hierarchy of functions (productive or economic in the large sense), as well as the rational separation of spaces allocated to these functions. For a new interpretation of urban/rural relations is necessary to start to analyze the methods of classification used and tested at national and international level, to take note of the problems and the partial inability to properly detect the new size of the peripheral urbanity (periurban areas). This thesis aims to give some answers to these critical issues. First, it offers an analysis of the evolution of regional, urban and rural, territorial system and tries to understand their changes according to the interpretations given by various social sciences. Then, it tries to study the effects of regional policies implemented, even in a comparative perspective. Finally, it offers an overview of the main methods of classification and includes an original zoning validated for the context of Lombardy.

CALDIROLA, ANNA.
Full textThe dissertation focuses on two main objectives: the reconstruction of Clara Reeve's fragmentary biography and the presentation of this eighteenth century authoress' literary production in which she attempts different literary genres, from poetry (Original Poems on Several Occasions) to the essay (The Progress of Romance), from the gothic and historical novel (The Old English Baron, Memoirs of Sir Roger de Clarendon) to the sentimental and didactic novel (The Two Mentors, The School for Widows, Plans of Education, The Exiles, Destination), experimenting different forms such as the epistle, the dialogue and the memoir. The analysis of the text is based on a chronological perspective in order to emphasize the peculiarity of each work and simultaneously to present the progress of an artist. The result is an unprecedented monograph which stresses the historical context and the cultural environment in which Clara Reeve's works appeared so as to understand the dynamics of her public and critical reception. Three important appendixes close the dissertation: the first offers the plots of the works; the second proposes the full text transcription from the manuscripts of Clara Reeve's letters to Joseph Cooper Walker; the third collects documents and illustrations.

SANTARSIERO, VITTORIA.
Doctoral thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11589/228262.
Full textThe theme of the peri-urban and the dimension of the contemporary city has been declined in this research in a project vision understood as an "individual and collective frontier" in which to recall plots, figures and models necessary to regenerate marginal spaces by interpreting agriculture as a means of implementation. (Secchi B, 1987) The interpretation of the theoretical approaches between function, spatial organization and contemporary processes, has identified in several investigated cases, a dynamic dimension in which to recognize characters and forms necessary to look at cities and territories in their enlarged landscape dimension and in which urban expansion and the system of open spaces constitutes an indispensable resource for outlining a new contemporary vision of the peri-urban. Periurbanity becomes the field of practices in which to investigate the urban question and the rural question, reconstructing the visions of the periurban countryside of the various European schools that have expressed a season of studies (reflections on urban planning and the dimension of the landscape) and opened a debate cultural heritage of the contemporary city. The theme of the peri-urban, at the center of this research, becomes in a territorial vision a new autonomous form of city, a space without an author invested by agriculture, intended as a laboratory of practices linked to new lifestyles and consumption, a place in the which one to reconstruct that lost link between city, agriculture and landscape. An opportunity to reflect on agro-urban issues carried out in different experiences of plans, projects and bests practice becomes a concrete opportunity, for this research, of knowledge of spatiality, of in-depth analysis and comparison to develop specific actions and opportunities to be seized in enhancing the characteristics and interpreting, in a contemporary key, agricultural forms in the territorial context of study. In the peri-urban area of the metropolitan context of Bari, this work wanted to measure and confront the complexity of the marginal space, on the dimension of nature / agriculture, trying to define a new public regulation of sustainable management for the integrated definition of a metropolitan landscape planning that knows how to recall analysis, knowledge, evaluation and production of new ideas. Urban planning then becomes a tool for formulating a new proposal for the habitability of the city and the countryside, opening up to contemporary issues that accept the hybridization between agriculture and nature. The future challenge that emerged from the research observes how periurbanity can initiate forms of collaboration and regulation between urban and rural functions, outlining guidelines for agri-environmental development. Urban agriculture becomes the answer that contemporary cities are waiting for to render their ecosystem services by building an indispensable vision for integrating decision making and building effective policies and actions for a sustainable agenda with a bottom up approach.
