Abstract:
This lecture reviews recent information from our laboratory regarding brainstem mechanisms regulating the arterial baroreceptor reflex. Our long-term goal is to understand some of the mechanisms involved in the etiology of essential hypertension. Our hypothesis is that this problem may arise, in part, because of changes within brainstem circuits controlling arterial pressure, and in particular to occlusion of baroreceptive information at the level of the primary afferent relay within the brainstem. Although it is established that baroreceptors provide a mechanism for short-term regulation of arterial pressure, there is convincing evidence that they also play a role in its long-term control (see Thrasher 2002, for an example). It follows that dysfunction of this reflex circuit could contribute to high blood pressure levels. Here, we discuss the central actions of angiotensin II on the baroreceptor reflex circuitry within the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) for arterial pressure control. Our findings have led us to hypothesize a novel form of intercellular communication within the NTS, one of vascular-neuronal signaling.Key words: baroreceptor reflex, nitric oxide, eNOS, nucleus tractus solitarii, adenovirus, somatic gene transfer.

Abstract: The paper presents the restructuring of course design and delivery, to attain the enhanced learning in Digital Circuits course through pedagogic practices and hands on experience in laboratory. The objective of the paper is to enhance the understanding of the course beyond the class room teaching. The traditional approach of course design, course delivery and course assessment provide less scope for better learning of courses. To address the limitations of traditional approaches, an Outcome Based Education (OBE) proposes many pedagogical practices. The paper proposes a framework to restructure the Digital Circuits course w.r.t.. to content delivery in the class, course projects and the reframing the laboratory experiments. The contents delivery is supported by expert lecture through videos, course project is aided by concept/prototype development and the lab is formulated to exercise multiple problems on a single topic. The students' attainment is measured and analyzed through examination results and feedback. The technical and professional outcomes are achieved through the proposed framework.

Abstract:
In the early 20th century, some American ministers were eager participants in the Chautauqua and Lyceum lecture circuits that flourished across the Midwest and beyond. Ministers expressed their vocation in the public arena, and the Redpath Chautauqua collection shows how part of this public life was conducted. In their role as lecturers in multiple educational and civic venues, ministers functioned as experts on the Bible, as well as supporting American ideals that were loosely connected to Protestant Christianity. The essay explores how a substantial archival collection reveals a particular public role ministers played in a popular culture venue in early 20th century America.

Abstract:
To supplement conventional teaching methods, use of new technology have recently being adapted in the current education system. Such examples are implementing simulators and quiz kits in a classroom session to assist teachers in providing standardized evaluation or practical and more direct examples of concepts that are being taught. Additionally, the well-known issue of attracting student interest in a so-called uninteresting conventional lecture may be solved by using this technological method. The objective of this works to provide methods on developing a prototype training kit (named as e-Logic trainer kit or e-LTK) which comprises of an electronic simulator and quiz assessment module to evaluate subject knowledge on logic gates. The e-LTK is developed by using Arduino Mega 2560 as the base microcontroller, equipped with keypad and display module as the user input/output interface. The quiz assessment module contained in the prototype also allows conversion of inputs by combinatorial logic circuits into output in the form of timing diagram. This equipment enables electrical engineering students to simulate several combinations of logic circuit, reinforcing the understanding of logic circuit operation. The effectiveness of using this prototype in educational settings have been evaluated through a survey on students and instructors at Faculty of Technology in Engineering (FTK) in Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). Response has been positive, with 60% of the correspondence has shown positive feedbacks, indicating the usefulness of the prototype kit.

In today's era with the rapid development of technology and the development of semiconductor technology, it is possible to create integrated circuits on an increasingly large scale and can integrate many different systems. One of the benefits of current technological developments in the attendance recording tool, whose data is integrated into the learning information system to replace the manual recording model. This tool is designed by integrating the work of a radio frequency identification (RFID) microcontroller into one system. The extracted data as a unique number from the RFID tag is used as student data. After the card is attached to the assessment device, student data will automatically be entered into the attendance database. By making this tool, it can facilitate the work and activities of students and lecturers in conducting lecture activities and also as learning for all in this period of rapid technological development

Abstract:
Abstract Based in Montevideo, and most recently valued at US$5 billion, the payments platform DLocal enables companies such as Booking.com, Amazon and Uber to transact in local currencies in 29 countries. It specializes in the “emerging economies” of Latin America, the Asia Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa. Among international lawyers, however, Montevideo is best known for another form of international infrastructure. That is the 1933 Montevideo Convention, or at least its first article, standardising the template of modern statehood. At the time, as scholars of international legal history have shown, this amounted to a radical reformatting of the fundamentals of international law, driven by semi-peripheral states, as part of a widespread effort of reconstructive codification after the Great War. Today, DLocal’s Montevideo is emblematic of a very different kind of international legal reformatting now underway. A digital logic, and associated circuits of value and aggregations of power, are becoming embedded—even predominant—in many of international law’s most routine operations. To shed light on this phenomenon, this lecture revisits each component of the Montevideo Convention’s well-known formula for statehood—permanent population; defined territory; government; and the conduct of international relations. Taking efforts of so-called digital humanitarianism as illustrative, it examines how each of these Montevideo properties is being rerouted and recomposed digitally, often in tension with an analog logic characteristic of law. And in the ensuing dislocations sometimes in evidence between analog and digital aspects of international legal work, it identifies some possibilities for collective reworking.

Abstract:
Focusing on William Wells Brown's one published play. The Escape; or, A Leap for Freedom (1858), I address Brown's decision to supplement his antislavery lectures with dramatic readings of original plays. In this effort to challenge the terms of a representative identity as a black antislavery lecturer, Brown presented a conception of social life grounded in what I term multiply contingent identity. By this formulation, one's social identity is always contingent and is always in danger of being undermined as one's performance of selfhood awaits verifying responses in the form of reciprocal performances in the field of social relations. In The Escape, Brown turned his own performance of identity on the antislavery lecture circuit into a commentary on performance itself, especially on performances both shaped and veiled by the ideology of race. In this way. Brown attempted to reposition white northern antislavery sentiment, reconstructing whiteness by emphasizing its contingent relation to a reconfigured vision of African American identity.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Although antipsychotics were discovered over fifty years ago, it took another decade until dopamine antagonism was demonstrated as central to their clinical effectiveness. Since accumulated evidence implicates the dopamine system in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, all licensed first-line treatments operate primarily via antagonism of the dopamine D2 receptor. However, dopamine D2 receptor blockade does not effectively treat negative, cognitive and affective symptoms and, in a significant proportion of patients, it does not improve positive symptoms either. Therefore, additional neurochemical targets were considered. The “revised dopamine hypothesis” proposes that positive symptoms emerge due to hyperactive dopamine transmission in mesolimbic areas, while hypoactive dopamine transmission via the mesocortical pathway in the prefrontal cortex is linked to negative, cognitive, and partly affective symptoms. In this context, the role of D3 receptors were recognised. However, there is also evidence for the involvement of other neurotransmitter systems, suggesting that dopamine signalling relies on a suite of receptors that are thought to either facilitate or inhibit neurotransmitter activity through several interconnected neural circuits. Furthermore, there seem to be clusters of symptoms that cross the boundaries of disorders. Symptoms having similar pathophysiology at neurotransmitter level can be treated with the same drug or class of drugs. Thus, one particular drug might be effective in more than one indication. This lecture aims to illustrate the process of a new drug development by explaining how the underlying pathophysiology on receptor level impacts clinical studies and vice versa.

Abstract:

In this paper, we introduce engineering education at the Department of Advanced Robotics, Chiba Institute of Technology. At the department, we try to teach useful knowledge and provide laboratory work leading to useful experience. One purpose of the curriculum is to enable students to design a system with a mechanism, control circuit, and computer programming. We then provide many lectures related to system design – control engineering, mechanics, mechanical dynamics, electronic circuits, information engineering, mechanical drawing, and so on – and provide laboratory work on related theory in the lectures. Laboratory work helps students understand abstract theories that are difficult to understand based on desk study alone. This laboratorywork continues fromthe first to fourth years. In addition, we provide many project studies. Some students try to develop their own systems through extracurricular studies. Through the project, students obtain much knowledge and experience. After introducing our curriculum, we discuss the results of this curriculum.

Abstract:
This paper describes the use of MathCAD's solving block which uses ‘Given’ and ‘Find’ built-in functions to solve nth order nonlinear algebraic equations. Introducing complex energy systems to electrical engineering students in their undergraduate studies is essential to complement many energy conversion courses. Various electric energy-capturing schemes use electric equivalent circuit models that incorporate nonlinear elements with complex mathematical formulas requiring numerical computation. Without incorporating programming tools, the taught material could be vague and a burden for both the student and the lecturer, hindering comprehension of the complexity of the system during the limited lecture hours. This paper introduces a ‘ready to use’ computational and mathematical tool that can be used to solve the non-linear equations quickly. The performance of an energy scheme with non-linear, interrelated variables such as the self-excited induction generator (SEIG) under variable excitation and loading conditions is used as an example. SEIG systems have been intensively proposed for energy capturing to supply power to remote areas from renewable energy resources such as wind and hydro prime mover systems.

Abstract:
Closed circuit rebreathers have been widely adopted by technical divers as tools for reducing gas consumption and extending depth and duration capabilities. Rebreathers are technologically complex with many failure points, and their use appears associated with a higher accident rate than open circuit scuba. Rebreather Forum Four (RF4) was held in Malta in April 2023 attracting approximately 300 attendees and representatives of multiple manufacturers and training agencies. Over two and a half days a series of lectures was given by influential divers, engineers, researchers and educators on topics of contemporary relevance to rebreather diving safety. Each lecture was followed by a discussion session with audience participation. Potential consensus statements were drafted by the authors (SJM and NWP) during the course of the meeting. These were worded to be confluent with some important messages emerging from the presentations and subsequent discussions. The statements were presented one by one in a half-day plenary session of participants, and discussion was invited on each. After discussion and any necessary revision, the participants voted on whether to adopt the statement as a position of the forum. A clear majority was required for acceptance. Twenty-eight statements embracing thematic areas designated ‘safety’, ‘research’, ‘operational issues’, ‘education and training’, and ‘engineering’ were adopted. Those statements are presented along with contextualising narrative where necessary. The statements may help shape research and teaching initiatives, and research and development strategies over subsequent years.

Abstract:

Abstract:
State of the art manufacturing of microelectronics involves the electrodeposition of copper for fabricating on-chip interconnects, through-silicon-vias for chip stacking, and high density printed circuit boards. This lecture will present a selection of highlights related to superconformal electrodeposition of Cu ranging from its history to its impact on processing of microelectronic circuitry and, more generally, the understanding of additive effects in electrodeposition. The story begins in the mid-20th century with the formal discovery of the effectiveness of plating additives in yielding smooth surfaces i.e. brighteners and levelers, before pivoting to the IBM paradigm changing introduction of complex 3-D Damascene Cu superfilling for on-chip interconnects in 1997. The role of electroanalytical, metallurgical, and surface science measurements along with insights, and modeling to develop a mechanistic understanding of morphological and microstructural evolution during trench and via filling will be detailed. The lessons learned and their extension to other chemical systems and applications will be discussed along with the challenges that lie ahead.

The purpose of the design and application of the ATMEGA8535 microcontroller system simulation circuit is minimize the damage of the practicum module, helping students improve their understanding of practicum goals through maximum frequency of practices. Every year damage the practicum module avr8535 increased. Based on the analysis, the damage of this module is mostly caused by the damage of the main component, namely the IC ATMEGA8535. This happen because a maximum of program downloading to the IC ATMEGA8535 is 1000 times and this ability can even be less if the operation procedure of the module is incorrect. This simulation software utilizes the facilities contained in the proteus software. The steps to make this simulation circuit are doing the needs analysis, designed the basic circuit, ouput circuit, input circuit, and ADC circuit. The test results show all units of the circuit can run according to the practicum module. This simulation circuit has been implemented in microcontroller practicum activities and interfacing as companion software. There was a decrease in module damage of 57.60% after the implementation of simulation circuit. With this simulation software programs that have been created can be loaded first into a simulations circuit, so they can extend the life time of the practicum module and can help lecturers in developing lecture material and maximize the understanding of learning for students through practical activities.

All the quantum algorithms are based on a certain quantum computing model, varying from the quantum circuit, one-way quantum computation, adiabatic quantum computation and topological quantum computation. These four models are equivalent in computational power; among them, the quantum circuit model is most frequently used. In the circuit model, it has been proved that arbitrary single-qubit rotations plus twoqubit controlled-NOT gates are universal, i.e. they can provide a set of gates to implement any quantum algorithm. This article discusses the goal for this research: it is to given a lightning-fast (as-barebones-as-possible) definition of the quantum circuit model computing and leisurely development of quantum computation before actually getting around to sophisticated algorithms. In this article the main ideas of quantum software engineering is described.
