Il est communement admis que le rite de la circoncision en tant qu'epreuve initiatique implique dicte un changement (non sans implications et consequences sur le psychisme du neophyte). La circoncision traditionnelle en milieu berbere, correspond aux formes sociales, coutumieres en algerie qui continuent d'exister ou de fonctionner dans leurs formes originelles, sans qu'un changement notable n'ait ete introduit. A l'issue d'un examen, que nous avons voulu historique, ethnologique et psychologique, nous esperons y avoir contribue en situant la circoncision traditionnelle en algerie comme etant le signe necessaire et fondamental par lequel le garcon s'identifie avec la communaute male de son groupe d'appartenance. Sur le plan psychologique, la circoncision est vecue comme une valorisation narcissique, une affirmation virile de soi. La circoncision en tant qu'attribut physique, inherent au clan des adultes masculins, realise non seulement l'identite sexuelle du garcon, mais, par son aspect de rite de passage, le fait promouvoir conjointement a une position sociale superieure. Ainsi l'objet de cette recherche est la circoncision traditionnelle en algerie et d'une maniere plus restrictive dans la region des aures. D'une maniere plus detaillee, nous avons etudie dans la premiere partie de cette recherche les origines ainsi que les significations de la circoncision sur le plan religieux, ethnologique et psychanalytique. La deuxieme partie est consacree aux differents aspects de la circoncision en algerie. Enfin dans la troisieme partie, purement clinique, nous avons etudie les cas proposes ainsi que les observations faites sur le terrain<br>The circumcision, in berber background, corresponds to unchanged social and traditional practices usually admitted in algeria and which are still operative today. At issue in a historical, ethnological, and psychological examination that we want, we hope to situat the traditional circumcision in algeria as a necessary and fundamental sign by which a young boy identifies himself with the masculine community and his membershipe with that group. On the psychological level, the circumcision has lived as a narcissisti validation, and an affirmation of virility. The circumcision, is an inherent attribute in the masculine adult clan, realizing not only the sexual identity of a young boy but by this aspect of a rite of passage, this act, at the same time, promotes his superior social position. Througthout our research paper, we have analysed in detail the phenomenon of circumcision in the algerian traditional berber society which we have considered from three interdependent perspectives. In a more detailed manner we have studied in the first part of this research the origins and significance of circumcision on religious, ethnological and psychological levels. In the second part we have concentrated on the different aspects of circumcision in algeria. Based on evidence from some specific cases of field-work investigation we studied, in the last part, its purely clinical aspects
