Paris 4, 2007. http://www.theses.fr/2007PA040145.
Full textPedro Lemebel’s opposition to the hegemonic power gets done by the travesty of the name and gender, giving up the father’s name Mardones in favour of the mother’s feminine name. The neo-baroque writing of the neochronicles, which irony characterizes, makes the portrait genre wander over the interview, as many testimonies of an era marked by the violence of the Chilean dictatorship and the beginning of AIDS. His writing covers the seventies and extends to nowadays, and builds an urban counter-culture that the chronicler’s eye catches in every corner of the capital. The author puts himself in the boson of Chilean minorities, among the poor, the transvestites, the prostitutes, the young etc… The distinctive hybridity and generic vagueness of his writing, with its double meaning as both literary genre and identity genre, raise the queries about the genre of the author’s first three books. What is at stake is politics, culture, identity, social life and economy, considering that Lemebel’s neo-chronicle brings a new meaning, new semantics, a new definitions of genders, new reflections, and he constantly re-defines because writing and gender are in perpetual evolution

Full textDespite having often been reduced to the status of lucid and satirical journalist or to that of a polemicist of the Weimar Republic, Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) yet played a far more intercultural role than it’s been said. He lived in Paris, working as a foreign correspondent from 1924 to 1929 and this period, although rarely studied, had a significant impact on his work. Indeed, at that time, he developed a new type of text which we characterise as « French-German chronicles ». Tucholsly writes about France for a German readership and constantly compares the realities of both societies, thereby pursuing his fight for peace with yet another method- that of striving to bring France and Germany closer together. Our aim is thus to demonstrate how Tucholsky stands fully in line with the long list of French-German mediators. Based on the concepts of cultural transfer and of mediator, our analysis focuses on the study of both the travel book Ein Pyrenäenbuch and of articles and poems dating from that period which have a Franco-German dimension. It eventually reveals that Tucholsky depicted France with partiality and that his writing strategy sways between provoking the reader and inciting him or her to play an active role.Added to those two major dimensions which make the chronicles unique, the last and strong axis of the thesis revolves around the ambivalence and limits that such a mediation work imply

Full textThis thesis is assigned, as the terms and conditions of research to define specific modes of appearance and operation of the epic in the historical Chronicle and the songs of exaltation in honour of Emperor Bakari II, represented as the "discoverer" of America before Columbus. The text is a bilingual version consisting of a transcript in Mandinka language and a French translation. Singing its achievements, the griot is the praise of the heroic qualities of the character and nature of the emotions aroused by his daring to go to the onslaught of the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. A text that presents itself as a simple appearance, epic intonation is assigned to it even though it can be called 'neo epic’. Certainly the epic was necessary with regard to the choice of an aesthetic of orality that allows to establish 'unadorned' history, the heroic and wonderful deeds. We have here, the definition of epic registry and noble style associated with it in the rhetoric, which is followed by the work. First of all, we have tried to look on the Foundation of the Mande, from the origins to the advent of Sundiata Keita, founder of the empire and the social composition and the political organization of the Mali Empire. This thesis confirms, along with other ethnographic studies, that medieval Mandingo society is organized around three poles strongly hierarchical, endogamous and specialised: the horon, the nyamakala and the jon. Before transcribing malinke language, then translate them into French songs-rhythms of praise of Fa Bukari, we revisited Maghan Sundiata epic cycle which is accompanied by the Chronicle of the Emperor of Mali, Aboubakari II. To conclude, we discussed stylistic and semantic properties that revolve around the figure of the epic poet, poetry form, epic speech, the special rhythmic of epic speech, without concealing the prospects of many research that open in the field of oral literature, in general and the epic of Bakari II, in particular that contains an entire domain to explore

Full textThis work which questions the whole of detective stories from the Carvalho series, seen from the angles of the social chronicle and the literary creation, emphasizes the transfiguration of reality through writing. The first part (History of writing) focuses on the reasons of the emergnece of that unexpected genre, the « thriller » genre, as the dictatorship is drawing to a close. There are considered, from the literary evolution of the writer, the passage from a « subnormal » writing to the detective story writing via the American Black novel, and then its surpassing, as well as the choice of narrative mode : poetical realism as an aesthetics of unveiling. The study of Lo literario, second part of Montalban's plan after the chronicle, reveals reading paths, the aesthetics of entertainment being then doubled by a network of significations thrown in more particularly through the relationships that intertextuality establishes between the cinema and literature. Intertextual character if any, mainspring of the representations, both focused upon and focusing, the detective Pepe Carvalho is considered from the point of view of his literary birth, of his problematic identity of the symbolical scope of his biblioclasty and of his role in the series. The second part (From objective reality. . . ) deals with the authenticatable reality which roots the chronicle : places, Barcelona, its geography, its history and its metamorphoses ; the time, the Spain of late Francoism (1972) when the right wing was coming back into power (1996), marked by the cultural, social, economic and political disruptions and by the evolution of the mentalities caused by the passage to democracy. The last but not least part (. . . To imagined reality) shows how reality, used and manipulated, weaves three patterns that are intricately linked – Francoism as a base of the spanish society, the failure of the left wing in its desire to change the world, the urban world as an alienating system – in fictions that try to explain History
François, Noémie. "Concha Alós , une remise en lumière nécessaire." Thesis, Pau, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PAUU1001.
Full textThis thesis aims at placing the writer Concha Alós (1922-2011) in the limelight again and at reevaluating her production. As a writer revealed under Franco’s regime, she received an important media and cultural recognition in the 60s and 70s but suffers today from an almost general indifference. The purpose of this PhD dissertation is to provide – for the first time – a comprehensive study of Concha Alós’s personal and professional path and, in a more fine-grained way, her aesthetic work. After a careful review of a large number of documents (published or not, edited, etc.) and private archives, I retrace the trajectory of a Spanish woman writer in a country shackled by dictatorship, position her amongst her contemporaries, determine the reasons for her oblivion and analyze her productions which appear under the form of narratives, newspaper articles and scenarios. The study’s aim is to update our knowledge of a committed woman, whose caustic pen, direct style and powerful themes today deserve to be rehabilitated

The coming of the digital age is not without its effects on our literary practices: it transforms our way of telling a story, and of creating, conceiving, diffusing and especially reading a work. This master’s thesis is mostly interested in this last upheaval: the relation between the reader and the work. If it seems agreed today that the modalities of reading are complexified or even renewed when they take place in a digital context, in particular through a more explicit interaction with the reading device, this apparent appropriation of the text doesn’t necessarily lead to a gain of freedom for the reader. On the contrary, this thesis postulates that the notion of constraint is relevant to approach the act of digital reading, reverberating in a particularly intense manner on various levels (device, mechanics, and text) of the form and functioning of works, which circumscribe the reader to limited, controlled, predetermined and less effective gestures. The goal is to study the manifestations of the constraint of reading by analyzing digital narrative fictions: Déprise, The Stanley Parable and Chronique(s) d’Abîme. These works belong to different practices (web fiction, video game, interactive fiction on mobile devices) that cut across several media (computer, tablet, smartphone). They thus seem representative of the diversity of digital narrative productions, while sharing the same feature: the constraining dimension of their reading. Key words: digital literature, constraint, reading in a digital context, interactivity, digital narrative fictions, video game, web fiction, interactive fiction on mobile devices, agency, manipulation gestures, discourse, control, freedom.

Full textThe subject of this research is about the Nahda, as conceived and built up by its actors-journalists in Egypt during the 19th century. Starting from the writings of a pioneer of this social movement, Ibrâhîm Al-Muwaylihî, and going through critical and literary analysis of his realistic and fictional published discourses, this research is, on the one hand, revisiting the history of this cultural Arab renaissance from a journalistic point of view and is, on the other hand, capturing the relationship between press and literature for a better understanding of how modern Arab literature was born and evolved. A specific emphasis is placed on defining role of the periodical literary and press as a supporting and propagating the Nahda. By reviewing leading, socio-political speeches and socio-satirical stories published at installments, this research makes an inventory of the dominant topics and offers conclusions about one of the largest newspapers of the Nahda, Misbâh Al-Sarq, a historical and political work, Mâ Hunâlik, and a new literary work, Mir'ât al-Âlam, all created by Ibrâhîm Al-Muwaylihî. The latter work is quoted, analyzed and compared with other newspapers. This research offers a synthesis of important Nahda questions about the press and the literature of an era, tracks and traces its history as witnessed by its actor-journalists, including their views about relations between the East and the West and mutations in the Arab and Muslim world. It offers an insight into a new Arabic literary style born in the press, analyzes the transmutation of the maqâma into a social novel and summarizes the Muwaylihi's Nahda thoughts, which remain valid in this 21th century
