Abstract:
At least eight threatened wildlife species are at direct risk from predation by cats (Felis catus) on Christmas Island (Director of National Parks. 2014. Christmas Island biodiversity conservation plan. Canberra. Australia: Department of the Environment.). A range of strategies are now being used to manage cats across the island, including responsible ownership methods for domestic cats and lethal control tools to remove feral cats outside the township area. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were used to drop non-toxic baits through the rainforest canopy to assess whether aerial baiting could be undertaken successfully on the island. Ground crews located 88% of baits, indicating that sufficient baits would be accessible to feral cats if broad-scale aerial baiting was to be undertaken in the future.

Abstract:
The condition of the state border area between Indonesia and Malaysia is totally different. Children of Indonesian Workers (TKI) have no (limited) access to learn in formal schools since they do not have citizenship documents. This study aims to analyze the implementation of basic education mission in the border area, particularly in Sebatik island, Nunukan regency, North Kalimantan province. In addition, the research was conducted using qualitative explorative approach. Problems arising at the border area are very diverse and systemic. The Indonesian government conducts the education in border areas still very limitedly. The role of the public, corporate and private companies (Three Net Working) becomes very important in operating the schools in border area. The role of a former lecturer who is famously called Mrs. Midwife Suraidah is very dominant in helping TKI’s children to learn a variety of knowledge in Sekolah Tapal Batas (Tapal Batas School) in Sebatik island, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan province. Some help from companies such as Pertamina (national oil mining company), Dompet Dhuafa foundation and volunteers who are willing to be teachers strongly support the continuously of Tapal Batas School. The continuity of basic education in the state border becomes a challenge for the government since the purpose of the country written in the opening of Constitution 1945 is the intellectual life of the nation can be realized by implementing it in Nawacita program.

The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative analysis to reveal the facts about Socioeconomic Life of Fishermen Community in Maitara Island Tidore Kepulauan City in Maluku Utara Province. The samples were taken by using purposive sampling method, namely taking samples based on certain considerations by the researcher such as choosing respondents who lived in the area of Maitara Island who worked as fisherman. The data were collected by using questionnaire in form of questions, observation, interview, and documentation. The results of the research reveal that (1) the characteristics of socioeconomic life of fishermen community in Maitara Island from social perspective particularly in fishermen’s education who did not finish Primary School is 56.33 percent and the rest who finished Primary School is 30.98 percent, Junior High School is 9.85 percent and Senior High School is 2.81 percent. The aforementioned results clearly show of low education of fishermen community and from economic perspective of fishermen’s monthly income is 76.05 percent with the income range 1.500.000-2.500.000 and the rest are above 2.500.000 and even there is below 1.500.000. It is due to low quality of human resources which influence their incomes and vice versa, if their incomes are low, then it would influence the human resources, namely low education. It can be seen that they could catch lots of fish but they could not manage it well due to low quality of human resources, (2) the survival strategies of fishermen community are conducting side jobs or job diversification empowering family, namely wife and children, in market to fulfill their families’ needs.

Abstract:
Background: Schistosomiasis is prevalent in many sub-Saharan African countries and transmission is through waters contaminated by infected snails. In Rwanda, although schistosomiasis is endemic, very few epidemiological studies exist; of these, schoolchildren have been the focus, neglecting pre-school-aged children (PSAC). Furthermore, malacological surveys to indicate the potential for transmission are scarce in the country. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of schistosomiasis among PSAC living on Nkombo Island in Lake Kivu and to map the distribution and infectivity of snails in the area. Methods: Stool and urine samples were collected from children aged 1 to 4 years and tested for schistosomiasis using the Kato Katz and the point-of-care circulating cathodic antigen (POC-CCA) diagnostic techniques respectively. Snails were collected along the shores at five different locations with human-water contact activities and cercaria shedding was microscopically examined. GPS receivers were used to collect geographical coordinates and snail distribution maps were generated using ArcGIS. A questionnaire was used to assess water contact activities and frequency. Results: A total of 278 PSAC were recruited. Overall, 9.5% (excluding traces) of the tested children reacted positively to the POC-CCA, although there were no ova detected in their stool via Kato Katz. The questionnaire revealed that 48.2% of parents/guardians use Lake Kivu’s water for household activities while 42.4% children are taken to the Lake shores daily. Overall, 13.5% of collected snails shed cercariae. Conclusions: PSAC of Nkombo Island are exposed to Schistosoma parasites through contact with Lake Kivu, which hosts a number of snails shedding cercaria. Exposure is through recreational activities but also through bathing as safe water is scarce in the area. Health education of parents/guardians of these young children should be promoted and the national schistosomiasis control program should be integrated into water supply projects.

Abstract:
One of the enduring issues and problems in Indonesia is the link and match between vocational secondary schools and the world of work in terms of quantity, quality, location, and time. This research focuses on the first issue i.e. quantity of vocational secondary school graduates in terms of supply and demand. The objective of this research was to explore the proportion of general secondary and vocational secondary school students, to find out the unemployment rate of both school types, and to identify policy alternatives to reduce the unemployment rate of vocational secondary school graduates. To achieve the objective, a quantitative descriptive research method was adopted. The research found that the national average proportion of students from general secondary schools and vocational secondary schools was 62.92%:37.08% in 2016 and 63.39%:36.61% in 2019. The national average unemployment rate of both school graduates was 8.72% and 11.11%% respectively in 2016, and 7.92% and 10.42% respectively in 2019. Thus, the unemployment rate of vocational secondary school graduates was higher than those of general secondary school graduates. In Java Island, however, where the population is about 40% of the Indonesian total population, the percentage of vocational secondary students increases significantly from 44.34%:55.66% in 2016 to 39.91%:60.09% in 2019. For this reason, a new policy is needed to reduce the unemployment rate of vocational secondary school graduates in the form of a moratorium for vocational secondary school expansion, particularly in Java Island. If for some reason, there is a need to build new vocational secondary schools in a certain area, it must be based on demand-driven guided by labor market signals. More comprehensively, a policy shift is required to reduce the unemployment of graduates from secondary vocational schools.

RPs were uncalcined (25°C) and calcined at 500°C, 900°C, and 1100°C. They were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and BET-N 2 surface area technique. P dissolution in 2% citric acid with a 128 h extraction time was measured. Chemical results were compared with those from a plant growth experiment, where wheat was fertilised with the calcined RP products. Calcination at 1100°C reduced the agronomic effectiveness of apatite RPs by about 90%, by altering the crystal properties and the particle size of the RPs. Unit-cell a dimension increased from values of 9.324—9.375 Å to approximately 9.38 Å, indicating that the carbonate containing apatite RPs altered to less-soluble fluorapatite. Apatite average crystal size (coherently diffracting zone) more than doubled and BET-N 2 specific surface area decreased by 95%, due to crystal growth and sintering. Consequently, the extent of dissolution in 2% citric acid and agronomic effectiveness decreased substantially. Calcination at 500°C and 900°C produced similar but smaller changes in mineral properties. It is concluded that beneficiation of apatitic RP by calcination will adversely affect the agronomic effectiveness of RP used for direct application to soils.

Abstract:
In American English, the most common pattern for the pronunciation of the allophones of the vowel phoneme /æ/ is the “nasal-split,” where the vowel is tense (raised, fronted) when followed by a nasal consonant and lax (lowered, backed) otherwise. In contrast, historically New York City English (NYCE) has had a “complex short-a split” with different conditioning factors for each allophone. This paper reports on new data from the eastern edge of the NYCE dialect region: suburban Nassau County, Long Island. Using word-list data from the sociolinguistic interviews of 24 high school students, aged 14-18, and 7 of their teachers and mentors, this paper shows that while young speakers in this region are moving towards the wider American nasal-split, the local version of that nasal-split still includes components of the traditional NYCE complex-split.

Abstract:
The Rottnest Island Reserve, located off southwestern Australia, is one of the most popular recreational fishing locations in Western Australia. In the reserve, standard Western Australian recreational fishing regulations apply and there are two small "no-take" conservation sanctuary areas. A roving creel survey of shore-based recreational angling in the reserve was conducted from January to December 2003. In total, 1 053 anglers were recorded which included individuals, families, school groups and angling club members. The total annual shore-based angling effort for Rottnest island was calculated to be 23 899 angler outings and the total catch estimated at 53 994 retained fish. Fishing effort was concentrated in the settlement area on the eastern side of the island and the highest levels of catch and effort were recorded in April, May and July. During the survey, 33 fish species were identified in the catch and the small, pelagic species Australian Herring dominated with 7.27 tonnes caught during the study. Shore-based anglers also caught and released a large number of non-target species. The survey has provided spatial and temporal data that can be used as a benchmark and to support decision making by the Rottnest Island Authority with respect to biodiversity conservation and the Department of Fisheries with regard to management of shore-based recreational angling in the Rottnest Island Reserve.

AbstractThe aim of this study is to understand emission sources of chemical elements using biomonitoring as a tool. The selected lichen and bark were respectively Parmotrema bangii and Criptomeria japonica, sampled in the pollution-free atmosphere of Azores (Sao Miguel island), Portugal, which were exposed in the courtyards of 22 basic schools of Lisbon. The exposure was from January to May 2008 and from June to October 2008 (designated through the text as winter and summer respectively). The chemical element concentrations were determined by INAA. Conductivity of the lichen samples was measured. Factor analysis (MCTTFA) was applied to winter/summer bark/lichen exposed datasets. As emission sources, soil with anthropogenic contamination, a Se source, traffic, industry, and a sea contribution, were identified. In lichens, a physiological source based on the conductivity values was found. The spatial study showed contribution of sources to specific school positioning. Conductivity values were high in summer in locations as international Lisbon airport and downtown. Lisbon is spatially influenced by marine air mass transportation. It is concluded that one air sampler in Lisbon might be enough to define the emission sources under which they are influenced.

Abstract:
A comprehensive parametric analysis was conducted to evaluate the influence of the green roof design parameters on the thermal or energy performance of a secondary school building in four distinctively different climate zones in North America (i.e., Toronto, ON, Canada; Vancouver, BC, Canada; Las Vegas, NV, USA and Miami, FL, USA). Soil moisture content, soil thermal properties, leaf area index, plant height, leaf albedo, thermal insulation thickness and soil thickness were used as design variables. Optimal parameters of green roofs were found to be functionally related to meteorological conditions in each city. In terms of energy savings, the results showed that the light-weight substrate had better thermal performance for the uninsulated green roof. Additionally, the recommended soil thickness and leaf area index for all four cities were 15 cm and 5 respectively. The optimal plant height for the cooling dominated climates is 30 cm and for the heating dominated cities is 10 cm. The plant albedo had the least impact on the energy consumption while it was effective in mitigating the heat island effect. Finally, unlike the cooling load, which was largely influenced by the substrate and vegetation, the heating load was considerably affected by the thermal insulation instead of green roof design parameters.

Abstract:
As a Malay Agricultural Settlement established in 1900, Kampung Baru which is located in Kuala Lumpur, has become a subject of prolonged national interests in terms of economic, social, environment, and political issues along with the pressure of modern and future development. This study investigated the urban morphological impact of Kampung Baru on the intensity of urban heat island (UHI) by developing a smart geodatabase for urban climatic mapping. The database provided baseline data which was crucial to unveil the spatiotemporal characteristics of UHI in Kampung Baru. Determination of the urban heat island intensity (UHII) in Kampung Baru was carried out through two approaches, mobile and fixed measurements. In a period of six days, the mobile measurement was conducted within the target area at night using a motorcycle equipped with the temperature and relative humidity data logger while the fixed measurement was conducted using the similar equipment installed at a school building in the area. Building height data were also collected while building footprints were digitized using a topographical map and the satellite image was used as the base map. To estimate the UHII, the reference data for rural temperature was obtained from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD). All of the data were analyzed using ArcGIS to portray the temperature pattern in the study area. The analysis revealed the presence of UHI effect in Kampung Baru at the average building height of six to ten metres. The results of the fixed measurement showed an island-like local maximum in the study area with the average and maximum UHII values of 4.4 °C and 6.0 °C, respectively. The results from the mobile measurement also showed that the highest temperature was recorded in Kampung Baru rather than in the surrounding areas of different land-use types throughout the observation days. The spatial temperature distribution in the study area also showed that the most affected part was the south-west of Kampung Baru which is surrounded by tall buildings. The findings of this study could be utilized in the planning of new development in the city of Kuala Lumpur.

Abstract:
AbstractPhosphorus (P) fixation is very common in Malaysian acid soils due to the fixation of soluble inorganic P by Al and Fe under acidic soil pH conditions. Farmers tend to perform lots of liming and apply excess amount of P fertilizers in order to saturate the Al and Fe in the soil so that the plants are able to absorb the remaining P. Excessive liming and application of P fertilizers are not only not economical but also not environmentally friendly. Compost with a large surface area and pool of negative charges could be used to reduce P fixation in acidic soil. Hence, this study was carried out to assess the effect of amending Christmas Island rock phosphate (CIRP) with rice straw (RS) compost in improving soil P availability, nutrient uptake, and dry matter production of maize cultivated on a Malaysian tropical acid soil. A pot experiment was carried out in this study with the use of maize (FI hybrid sweet corn 801) as a test crop. The chemical properties of soils applied with RS compost were significantly improved (P ≤ 0.05) compared to treatments without RS compost. As the soil pH increased, there was significant reduction in exchangeable acidity, Al and Fe in soil due to exchangeable Al and Fe were fixed with negatively charged functional groups of RS compost’s surfaces, thus increased the P availability and exchangeable cations in the soil applied with RS compost. There was also significantly higher N, P, and K uptake in leaf, stem, and root of maize in the treatments applied with RS compost. Application of CIRP with RS compost was found to increase the soil P availability, maize nutrient uptake, and dry matter production at the end of the pot experiment. An application rate of 15–20 t ha−1 of RS compost together with 130 kg ha−1 urea, 200 kg ha−1 CIRP, and 67 kg ha−1 muriate of potash is recommended to improve the soil NPK contents and growth of Zea mays in acidic soil.

Abstract:
This study examined the differential impact of implementing the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction (SDLMI) alone with implementing the SDLMI combined with Whose Future Is It? with transition aged students with intellectual disability in a cluster randomized trial in the state of Rhode Island. The state of Rhode Island is implementing systemic change in transition services and supports under the auspices of a Consent Decree entered into by the state with the U.S. Department of Justice. One area of focus is promoting self-determination during transition planning in the school context as a means to affect employment trajectories. This study focused on the impact of self-determination instruction on self-determination outcomes while youth were still in school, given research establishing a relationship between self-determination and employment outcomes. Latent mediation models suggested that students in the SDLMI-only group reported significant increases in their self-determination scores from baseline to the end of the year, and teachers of students in the SDLMI-only group saw students’ goal attainment as predicting change in self-determination over the course of the year. Teachers reported significant changes in student self-determination in the SDLMI + Whose Future Is It? group. Implications for individualizing interventions to teach skills associated with self-determination in the context of planning and setting goals for the transition to integrated employment are discussed.

Abstract:
The problem in this research is that the teaching of school-based earthquake disaster preparedness in Lombok has not been optimal. In fact, the island of Lombok is an area with a high level of vulnerability to earthquakes. This is because one of them is the Flores Thrust which stretches from the eastern tip of the Flores Sea to the north of Bali. Thus in this study the main objective is to develop a preparedness teaching model for earthquake-prone schools. Where earthquake disaster preparedness is all efforts and activities carried out before a natural disaster occurs, during a disaster and immediately after a disaster to quickly and effectively respond to the situation or situation. The research method used is a research and development approach (Research & Development). The results showed several results including; First, the use of this preparedness teaching model shows that schools have more knowledge as a result of modeling in learning; Second, the exposure of the functions and responsibilities of one of the main leading sectors in disaster management; and The three resulting teaching models have simplified disaster management in schools because they are integrated with Social Science learning so that they are easily realized. So with the model of teaching student preparedness it will be more effective and efficient in order to improve their ability to face earthquakes that can occur at any time.

Abstract:
This article investigates the introduction of hybrid power plants for thermal energy production for the indoor space heating loads coverage. The plant consists of flat plate solar collectors with selective coating, water tanks as thermal energy storage and a biomass heater. A new operation algorithm is applied, maximizing the exploitation of the available thermal energy storage capacity and, eventually, the thermal power production from the solar collectors. An automation system is also designed and proposed for the realization of the newly introduced algorithm. The solar-combi system is computationally simulated, using annual time series of average hourly steps. A dimensioning optimization process is proposed, using as criterion the minimization of the thermal energy production levelized cost. The overall approach is validated on a school building with 1000 m2 of covered area, located in the hinterland of the island of Crete. It is seen that, given the high available solar radiation in the specific area, the proposed solar-combi system can guarantee the 100% annual heating load coverage of the examined building, with an annual contribution from the solar collectors higher than 45%. The annually average thermal power production levelized cost is calculated at 0.15 €/kWhth.

AbstractGreen blue roof has the potential to reduce the surface temperature of the building in the urban areas. Green blue roof is a new innovative low impact development (LID) practice that has exhibited an option to mitigate the heat island phenomena in urban area. This is the modified form of green roof that has ability to store rainwater in vegetation, soil layer and increases the evapotranspiration rate which decreases the temperature of an area. For this purpose, green blue roof is installed at the Cheong-un middle school building roof, Seoul, Korea. During the different time scenarios the surface temperature from the green blue roof and control roof were analyzed and their results were compared with each other. The results revealed that the surface temperature of green blue roof was much less as compared to control roof under same climatic conditions. From the results it is also concluded that surface temperature value of green blue roof was less than 5°C to 9°C as compared to control roof.

Abstract:
The study examined empirically the impact of systematic and unsystematic assessment of instructions, cognitive style and gender on knowledge of physics concepts among Senior Secondary Two (SS II) Students in Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria. It made use of 120 secondary school two (SS II) students (72 males and 48 females) in a pretest-posttest non-randomized control group design in which treatment systematic assessment at two levels was crossed with two levels of cognitive style and gender. Data analysis involved analysis of covariance and graphical illustration as post-hoc measures. The results indicate that allowing systematic attributes of continuous assessment (CASS) to come into play in physics teaching has significant effect on remembering of physics concepts across all the students’ cognitive style-gender groupings. The results also indicate a significant gender-group (in support of females) in remembering of physics concepts. These results show the need for secondary school physics teachers to bring in systematic characteristic of CASS into the assessment of physics teaching. The teachers should also be more patient with male students since their knowledge of physics concepts is significantly lower than that of their female counterparts.

Nuclear families were more (59%) common compared to joint families. Among school-going children, 57% of boys and 43% of girls were dropouts. Eighty-eight per cent of dwellings were full katcha while semi-pacca were 12% and all the family are lack of electricity facilities. Different types of the net including the set bag net, tong jal, current jal, tanajal etc. were found on this island. They used motorboats, and engine power ranges from 8 to 22 hp for fishing. A group of fishermen caught fish averagely 35-80 kg per day. A portion of them being consumed for households and the rest of them are usually sold. The monthly average income was around BDT7000-8000. Fifty-six per cent of the fishermen borrowed money from money lenders and 44% from the NGOs. Our findings suggest that GOs and NGOs should come forward for the betterment of socio-economic condition through increasing educational opportunities, loan facilities and electricity facilities and sustainable livelihood in the present study area. Abstract:
Although the MM III B and LM I A ceramic phases of the Neopalatial period have in central Crete recently been subjected to refinement and revision, some of it controversial, in the east of the island they are still not very clearly defined. It is often argued that these phases see important changes in Minoan political geography, with Knossos seemingly extending its influence farther afield than ever before. Thus closer definition of these phases in east Crete in relation to the centre of the island represents an important step. It is in this light that three deposits from Palaikastro are here fully presented and discussed, with a view to clarifying the nature of the MM III B and LM I A phases in east Crete. The deposits in question were excavated during the recent programme of British School excavations conducted between 1986 and 1996. They are from three different contexts, in Building 6, Area 6 and Building 2 respectively, and contain abundant pottery (447 catalogued pots in total). The pottery from these deposits consists largely of cups, stored in some quantity in what seem to be small storerooms or ‘pantries’. Although east Cretan Neopalatial pottery does exhibit its own stylistic and typological traits, there are sufficient comparisons with material in central Crete to assign the deposits from Building 6 and Area 6 to MM III B, and the one from Building 2 to LM I A. It is hoped that the publication of this material will serve as a clear basis for future discussions of these significant phases in east Crete.

Abstract:
The independent island nation of Saint Lucia and surrounding Caribbean countries have fairly well-documented high reported rates of trauma, but limited training infrastructure for trauma-related mental health support and treatment services. This study addresses this disparity between high trauma exposure and sparse trauma-related resources by studying how a one-day training workshop impacted self-rated knowledge about trauma and stigma towards trauma survivors. The training was provided by a licensed clinical psychologist in partnership with a local women’s rights group. Participants (n = 41) included school counselors, nurses, psychiatric providers, health educators, and advocates on the island. Participants completed pre- and post-workshop measures examining the variables of interest. The one-day workshop provided training on trauma types, post-trauma reactions, options for treatment, and hands-on training for trauma crisis-management and short-term interventions. Following the workshop, participants reported increased knowledge of trauma, more accurate perceptions of its prevalence, better understanding of evidence-based treatments, and lower trauma survivor-related stigma. This is the first trauma-focused workshop tested in St. Lucia, where the need for such training is considerable given few treatment options for trauma survivors in this area. Work is underway to provide more expansive services for trauma across the Caribbean region, given these preliminary promising findings.

Abstract:
The coastal areas of Indonesia are rich of natural resources. However, the resources have not been utilized optimally due to several factors, including the low quality of human resources. People who live in coastal areas generally live with low economic conditions as indicated by high incidence of poverty in this region. The economic activity of population who lives in coastal areas, particularly fishermen, depends on the utilization of the natural resources with low technology and limitation of capital. To improve the quality of human resources and reduce poverty in coastal areas, various community empowerment programs have been conducted. This article aims to examine the achievement of community empowerment programs and its challenge to achieve the program goals in Mapur Island, one of coastal area in Bintan Regency. The data used for this study are baseline studies of socio-economic aspects of coral reefs in Mapur Village conducted by PPK-LIPI in 2005 and 2015. The results shows that after a decade of community development programs implemented in the island of Mapur, the economic conditions of the population has improved as indicated by the increase of household income. Sources of income for the population also become more varying since economic opportunities open up more in the field of trade, services and transportation as a result of the development programs in coastal areas. However, the condition of human resources as indicated by educational level has not achieved the expected results. The education level of the population does not show significant changes over a decade. School dropout rates are quite high and the majority of the population only completed elementary school.

Abstract:
Abstract. This research aims to determine the structure of disaster mitigation learning in elementary schools. It is Research and Development also known as RnD study. This research gives a real-life example of how a teacher can teach and embed the awareness about natural disasters in an uncomplicated and fun way, by using the disaster mitigation model of teaching. The study results in one design of a disaster mitigation model of teaching and a teaching structure implementing a scientific approach on disaster mitigation. This research is based on the development and real-life experience of the researcher team in teaching and doing observation and research on the headmaster, teachers, and the students of Mataram 6 elementary school. It is the pilot project of this research, which in return will be implemented in other schools in the urban, coastal area, as well as the mountainous area in Lombok Island. The result shows that the headmaster and the teachers’ response towards the disaster mitigation model of teaching had been really positive, with only 5% of the teachers claims that they are interested, whilst the other 95% claim that the study is extremely interesting for them. The students were very enthusiastic and active during the learning process. Besides, the claim to have meaningful benefit from this mitigation learning. This thus indicated that this mitigation model of teaching and learning can be used as a guide or reference in embedding the awareness for natural disasters among the school community.

Abstract:
Recent global migration trends and an increase in worldwide human mobility are currently contributing to unparalleled challenges in the area of literacy and education within multicultural and multilingual societies (Leikin, Schwartz, & Tobin, 2012). Malta, a small island in the Mediterranean, is one country currently seeking ways in which to adapt to the realities of today’s diverse classrooms. This paper details original research into Maltese teachers’ perceptions and practices in multilingual classrooms. Following a brief overview of Malta's language history and educational system, we draw on the experiences of eight bilingual primary school teachers through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. Recent demographic changes in Malta necessitate a paradigm shift in education. With Malta’s challenges mirrored at global level, this study makes an important contribution to understanding the issues faced by educators and children, exploring pathways towards an equitable and socially just education for all.

Abstract:
This project was conducted to identify factors which affect delivery of special education programs in non-urban areas of New Zealand. The opinion of the New Zealand Ministry of Education (1991) was that education for children and youth with disabilities had developed in a piecemeal fashion which had led to a number of problems. Areas studied were (a) frequency of problems in non-urban areas, (b) additional problemactic factors, (c) perceptions of selected issues, (d) the affect of the size of the community in relation to service delivery, (e) possible solutions, and (f) comparison to prior findings in the United States. Information was gathered from Special Education Service (SES) area managers or their representatives on both the North and South islands, and from parents and educators at one secondary urban, one minor urban, and one rural primary school in the Waikato region of the North island.

Abstract:
Indonesian’s nature has a combination of a tropical climate and is the largest and most island nation in the world. Indonesia also has many natural tourism sites that are already well-known abroad. One of them is Lake Toba. Lake Toba is the largest and deepest lake in Southeast Asia. These tourist attractions are also supported by a cultural heritage that is rich with many tribes and customs that spread throughout Indonesia. Resort hotels are one of the supporting facilities in the tourist area. The design of the Tongging resort hotel raises the theme of neo vernacular. The problem posed was "How to design Resort Hotels using the neo-vernacular architectural approach?". Using the neo-vernacular school aims to arouse the culture and customs of the environment. Because we know the Tongging area is a Batak tribe area, which is a very thick tribe with traditions and customs. The resort hotel design Tongging is designed using ornamentation and formations, which are more directed to the Siwaluh Jabu traditional house by using qualitative methods because it is rational and planned precisely with the location of the site. Tongging resort hotel can be a resort hotel that does not leave the local culture and can become an icon in the hope that it can still preserve the existing customs or culture.
