Abstract:
At least eight threatened wildlife species are at direct risk from predation by cats (Felis catus) on Christmas Island (Director of National Parks. 2014. Christmas Island biodiversity conservation plan. Canberra. Australia: Department of the Environment.). A range of strategies are now being used to manage cats across the island, including responsible ownership methods for domestic cats and lethal control tools to remove feral cats outside the township area. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were used to drop non-toxic baits through the rainforest canopy to assess whether aerial baiting could be undertaken successfully on the island. Ground crews located 88% of baits, indicating that sufficient baits would be accessible to feral cats if broad-scale aerial baiting was to be undertaken in the future.

Abstract:
In 1974 the Australian Government decided that from 1975 all education on its Territory of Christmas Island, Indian Ocean, would be integrated into a single service. It further decided that all schools would be staffed by Australian teachers from its recent1y established Commonwealth Teaching Service and would implement a curriculum closely reflecting those on the Australian mainland. These were decisive shifts from the previous system of separating the 'Asian' education system from the 'European' (Australian) system. This thesis sets out to find the reasons for these decisions and the expectations, or objectives, of those who made them. The changes to education had many Impacts on the Christmas Island community - both intended or unintended. These impacts are used to assist in evaluations of the policy objectives. The thesis uses the methodology of public policy analysis to examine the links between the government's education policy and its other broader policies regarding the Island. It thus examines operational decisions in the context of strategic considerations. The mid 1970s saw rapid changes in many Australian Government policies. Its new Christmas Island policies were responses to a range of complex, interrelated problems which emerged in the early 1970s - only 15 years after it assumed sovereignty. At the centre of these policy responses was Resettlement. The government's education decisions are examined in the light of the objectives and implications of its Resettlement policy as well as other inputs to the policy problem.

The purpose of this research is to understand the green consumption knowledge, attitude and behavior, and green consumption that consist of the 4R-Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The subjects of this research are the elementary school students in Taipei and Kin-men. 579 questionnaires were sent to all students in the program and 527 usable questionnaires (91%) were returned. The topics addressed in the questionnaire included: green consumption knowledge, green consumption attitude, green consumption behavior and personal information. A number of findings that came from the questionnaires included: 1. Green consumption knowledge: The overall correct rate was 81.80% and 71.35% of elementary school students in the metropolitan area and off-shore island. There is a great difference between the green consumption knowledge because of the different resident location. Both residents have high scores in the questions about the basic knowledge of green consumption. Related conception is refuse the highest average score. All in all, the elementary school students have such a remarkable difference because of the different ‘gender’, ‘pocket money (allowance)’, ‘participation in environmental activities’, ‘environmental information’ and ‘socio-economic status’. 2. Green consumption attitude: The overall correct rate was 82.41% and 82.58% of elementary school students in the metropolitan area and off-shore island. Green consumption attitude does not have that much a big difference regardless of the different resident. The ranking of the scores from high to low is: ‘Refuse’, ‘Recycle’, and ‘Reduce’, ‘Reuse’ has the different response because the residence is different. All in all, the elementary school students have not a remarkable difference because of the different personal information. 3. Green consumption behavior: The overall correct rate was 80.58% and 80% of elementary school students in the metropolitan area and off-shore island. Green consumption behavior has a remarkable difference due to their different residential place. The ranking of the scores from high to low is: ‘Reuse’, ‘Reduce’, ‘Recycle’, and ‘Refuse’. All in all, the elementary school students have such a remarkable difference because of the different ‘socio-economic statuses. 4. The correlation between green consumption knowledge, green consumption attitude and green consumption behavior. Finally, there are some suggestions on how to carry out the green consumption in future researches related to this field based on the results of this research.

This study aims at the understanding of factors that impact the achievement in science for the students in the surrounding islands of Taiwan. We analyze the grades in science and personal information of the students of Chiang Kai-shek middle school to study the correlation between the science achievement of students and their family background. We also study how the science achievement of students in the elementary school can impact that in the middle school. Furthermore, the correlation between the science achievement of students and their Comprehensive Assessment for Junior High School Students (CAT)scores is studied as well. In our study, we find the following about the science achievement of students in the surrounding islands of Taiwan. (1) The sexes are irrelevant. (2) No strong dependence on which grades the students are in. (3) There is a big impact if the student’s parents are government employees. (4) School choice makes an obvious difference. (5) Science achievement of students in the elementary school significantlyaffects that in the middle school. (6) The CAT scores of students highly correlate with their science achievement in middle school. (7) The average of CAT scores of students in the surrounding islands of Taiwan is lower than the national average. According to our study, we have several suggestions for schools, teachers, parents, students and administrations to improve the student achievements in science. (1) We should offer different supplemental education services to students with different growing background. (2) The supplemental education services should be offered as early as when the students are in elementary school. (3) Parents should give their children more attention.

Abstract:
When the Christian movement inserts itself into a culture, indigenous institutions serving to inculcate values and to teach both a world-view and religious rites are necessarily affected. In societies where Islam was dominant or was reviving in the period 1910–2010, Christian schools had to win acceptance from local parents as well as from political authorities. Anglican missionaries in northern India; in greater Syria, Egypt, and Sudan; and in East and West Africa engaged their host societies at differing levels. Some proffered literacy in local languages, aiming to equip Bible readers and Church leaders. Others aimed to prepare elites to become social leaders using Western logic and techniques. Some Anglican schools retained their Christian ethos by confining their work to underserved populations, or by good service to elites; others were absorbed into state-run school systems.

Abstract:
Throughout Islamic history the issue of leadership of the community has been of primary importance. The Sunni majority has identified Muslims who did not give allegiance to the Caliph as shiʿa, or sectarians. Two of the groups discussed in this chapter are part of the historical controversies over community leadership, and for all of them leadership remains a very important concern. Both the Nizari Ismaʿilis, led by Imam Aga Khan, and the Druze are offshoots of the Fatimid countercaliphate, which flourished for two centuries. The other two groups are more modern. The Ahmadiyya developed in the context of European occupation of Islamic lands and the reaction to Christian missionary activity and modernization. The Qur'anists, sometimes referred to as the Ahl al-Qur'an, share the beliefs of the United Submitters International regarding the Qur'an as the sole foundation of Islam. With long-term roots in attempts to understand the “right” way to live Islamically, they are more recent as an identified school of thought. All of these groups maintain a presence in the current configuration of Islam in America.

Abstract:
Pakistan culminated from the concept that religion is the main denominator identifying and unifying Muslims in the subcontinent, and therefore Hindus and Muslims are two distinct nations. Christians strongly supported the Muslim League in its pursuit of a separate homeland. Through the historical influence of Christian missions there were 3,912 ‘native’ Christians by 1881, and by 1941 this number had increased to 511,299 in Central Punjab. The largest church in the country is the Catholic Church (Latin rite). In 1970 the Church of Pakistan brought together Anglicans, Methodists and some Presbyterians, each with an extensive network providing education, healthcare and pastoral care. Other denominations in Pakistan include the Salvation Army, Pentecostals, Full Gospel Assemblies, Adventists, among others. However, Christians in Pakistan today are maligned, regarded as part of the lowly ‘sweeper community’, with a small number of seats reserved for them in politics. Christians are threatened by the Blasphemy Law, meant to safeguard Islam. At least 700 girls are kidnapped annually and forced to marry Muslims. Nevertheless, the Christian community has demonstrated vitality; with thousands studying in Christian schools and many receiving medical care from Christian hospitals, the Christian community remains committed to engage positively in inter-faith dialogue.

‘Selection in Islam’ chronicles the developments of Muslim science. It begins with the Christian Nestorians who settled in Persia after the excommunication of Nestorius in 431 ce. They built an important school and hospital in which they enlarged their study of Aristotle and Galen. The project to render Greek science into Arabic lasted three centuries and the word falsafa was adopted for philosophy. The writings of key figures in falsafa— al-Kindī, al-Fārābī, Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna), Ibn Bājja (Avempace), and Ibn Rushd (Averroes)—are discussed along with the developments in mathematics and astronomy, which were assisted by the creation of observatories and substantial instruments such as the astrolabe.

Spanish was entrenched as the language of public-school instruction with the advent of elected governors in the middle of the previous century. Since then heated exchanges over the language-education nexus subsided significantly. English is still associated with upward socio-economic mobility and facilitated migration to the US mainland. This chapter also explores the linguistic panorama and linguistic enclaves on the island. The largest pockets of English speakers are in the San Juan metropolitan area and areas adjacent to military installations. Data also reveal that since Puerto Rico’s economic downturn in the first decade of this century the percentage of English speakers on the island has dropped significantly. The drop coincides with a mass migration off the island. Consequently, English is no longer associated exclusively with Americans. It is increasingly becoming a critical medium for communication with stateside Puerto Ricans.

Abstract:
The state of Sarawak is the biggest among the 13 states in Malaysia. It is strategically located in South East Asia in the island of Borneo. In the state of Sarawak, Marketing education has seen a tremendous growth over the years. Marketing is one of the most sought-after business courses by many school leavers. In Sarawak, Marketing education is provided by public and private universities and institutions of higher education in the form of degree and diploma courses. Marketing education views marketing as a discipline that can be learned through the classroom (off the job). However the employers' perspectives differ as they prefer hands on (on the job). The main challenge confronting the Sarawak institutions of higher learning is to produce marketing graduates capable of being competent marketing practitioners serving in public and private sectors. The question that remains unanswered is whether the marketing education curriculum content matches the trends and major forces in our external environment as proper attention to these dimensions will enable the institutions to produce graduates equipped with the relevant skills in the workforce or whether the curriculum content has been designed in recognition of the fact that students will need to cope with the complex nature of today's business planning and decision-making. The literature on marketing education in Sarawak, is limited and very few research articles are found exploring the effectiveness. The authors have contributed to the field of Marketing education in Sarawak in one of their previous article published five years ago. Therefore this chapter is an attempt by the authors to explore the effectiveness of marketing education in meeting the organizational needs in Sarawak from the perspectives of employers. This study uses qualitative methods which includes interview (face-to-face and telephone), informal discussions, email communications with managers, personal observations by the authors, and a review of literatures in the area of Marketing education. Marketing education, like marketing practice, is dynamic. Marketing education should continually evolve in such a manner to accommodate and satisfy various stakeholders such as government, business and industry, academics as well as students. The findings reveal several issues and challenges of Marketing education from the employers' perspectives in Sarawak. These findings will be useful for curriculum design of marketing courses. It will also assist marketing educators in understanding the organizational needs of marketing knowledge, skills and abilities required of a graduate. Future marketing students will also be able to know the industrial and organizational expectations required of them as a marketing graduate. This chapter clearly identifies some of the deficiencies in the area of practical skills required by marketing graduates in the context of Sarawak. This chapter is expected to provide the framework and prospect for conducting an in-depth quantitative research in Marketing education in future in Sarawak (Borneo).

Abstract:
Yihui Yang, Wei You, Yunlong Peng, Wowo Ding*, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Nanjing University, No.22 Hankou Rd, Jiangsu 210093, P.R.China. Based upon our previous study, we do know that in China living habits and local climate mainly influence the shape of residential buildings and apartment patterns, but we do not know whether the pattern of residential plots determined by FAR and sunshine hours are suitable for wind environment related to residential environmental quality. Therefore, it is very significant to evaluate wind environment within residential plots based on the apartment pattern controlled by various building codes. Our study focuses on the pattern of Slab apartments in Nanjing, which are mainly used in China, and selects 40 residential slices with different plot shapes, plot FAR, building heights and sizes. Based upon MATLAB, we have got all geometrical data between buildings among these slices to identify the spatial pattern character of each residential plot. Through evaluating wind environment of these slices by simulation we can obtain wind speed, pressure and age of air and choose the pattern of age of air as the main evaluation factor of wind performance. Correlation analysis will be made between the apartment patterns and pattern of age of air, by doing so, each typical space between buildings will be evaluated. Our study will reveal the relevance of apartment pattern and wind environment, which can be used to support and improve design in the future. References(95 words) Oke. T.
