Abstract:

Background: To study the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of severe pre-eclampsia in the gynecology and obstetrics department of the CHR of Koudougou.Methods: descriptive cross-sectional study with prospective collection from January 1 to December 31, 2018. The variables studied focused on clinical socio-demographic characteristics, treatment and prognosis. The women admitted to the department and meeting the criteria for severe pre-eclampsia were included, more than 20 weeks of amenorrhea with an increase in blood pressure, presence of albumin in the urine and signs of clinical or biological seriousness.Results: Severe pre-eclampsia represented 2.3% of admissions and 3% of deliveries. The clinical profile was that of a young housewife (51.2%), married (72.4%), nulliparous (44.1%) with a pregnancy in the 3rd trimester. Symptoms were dominated by headache (53.5%) and diastolic blood pressure ≥110 mmHg (66.9%), with albuminuria greater than two crosses and hyperuricemia. Magnesium sulfate and clonidine were the most commonly prescribed anticonvulsant and antihypertensive drug, respectively. Cesarean section was performed in 53% of cases.Maternal complications were noted in 57.5% of cases without death. However, the fetus took a heavy toll with 50.7% morbidity and 14% perinatal mortality.Conclusions: Severe pre-eclampsia is responsible for heavy morbidity - perinatal mortality. Improving maternal and fetal prognosis will require compliance with treatment protocols and greater accessibility of care at all levels of the health pyramid.

Abstract:

Background: Objective was to study the indications and the prognosis of cesarean section in the obstetrics and gynecology department of CHR Koudougou from August 1st to October 16th 2018.Methods: This was a cross-sectional study for descriptive purposes with prospective collection of data over the month and monitoring of parturients up to the 42nd day post caesarean section. The study covered the period from August 1 to October 16, 2018. Gestures received in the work room and those hospitalized for a scheduled cesarean were involved in this study.Results: This study involved 316 deliveries. The caesarean section rate was 34.8% (n=110). The average age was 26.75 years with extremes of 12 and 42 years. Term pregnancies represented 90.9%. History of cesarean section was observed in 47, 3%. The main groups contributing to the caesarean section rate represent: Groups 5 (9.5%), Group 1 (9.2%), Group 3 (5.1%), the scar uterus (17.3%) and suffering fetal (14.6%). The reported complications were 15.5% including 3.6% parietal suppuration and 0.8% stillbirth.Conclusions: The caesarean section occupies an important place in the maternity service of the RHC of Koudougou. Robson's group 5 was the largest contributor to the overall cesarean rate in our study. Measures should be taken in this group so that the uterine scar does not become an absolute indication for cesarean.

Svabo valdi eina stavseting, ið lá tætt við framburðin, og uppskriftir hansara geva tí góða lýsing av føroyskum, sum tað tá varð talað. Næsta stóra framstig í føroyskum skriftmáli var um miðju 19. øld, tá ið V. U. Hammershaimb gjørdi nýggjar stavsetingarreglur. Fyrsta føroyska orðasavn varð útgivið í 1891 sum partur av V. U. Hammershaimbs Færøsk Anthologi. Í 1927/28 kom út Føroysk-donsk orðabók eftir M. A. Jacobsen og Chr. Matras; henda orðabók kom út í øktari útgávu í 1961. Í seinnu helvt av 1900-árunum komu fleiri orðabøkur, allar tvímæltar. Higartil størsta orðabókin er <em>F</em><em>ø</em><em>r</em><em>o</em><em>ysk orðabók </em>frá 1998 við um leið 66.000 leitorðum. Týdningarmesta nýbrotið í hesi orðabók er, at orðalýsingar verða gjørdar á føroyskum og ikki á øðrum máli. Í greinini verður tikið fram, hvussu føroysk orðabókagerð endurspeglar málrøktarstarv og skiftandi málpolitikk upp gjøgnum tíðirnar.</p><p><strong>A</strong><strong>bstract</strong>: Faroese lexicography can be dated back to the 1770’s, when J. C. Svabo compiled and prepared a manuscript for a Faroese-Danish-Latin dictionary, which however did not appear in his lifetime. Svabo constructed an orthography based on the spoken usage of words. In 1846 V. U. Hammershaimb published some texts in a new orthography based on etymological principles. The first Faroese dictionary appeared in print in 1891 as part of Hammershaimb’s Færøsk Anthologi. In 1927/28 appeared Føroysk-donsk orðabók by M. A. Jacobsen and Chr. Matras, an expanded edition was published in 1961. In the second half of the 1900s, several dictionaries were published, all bilingual. The most comprehensive dictionary, Føroysk orðabók, appeared in 1998 incorporating about 66,000 words. Moreover, this dictionary differs from the older ones in that meanings and definitions of the words are provided in Faroese and not in a foreign language. In the article is illustrated how Faroese lexicography reflects impacts of puristic activities and changing language politics over the years.</p>

Abstract:

Our previous study indicated that unilateral lesion of the ventral tegmental area (VTA) facilitates contralateral VTA stimulation-induced feeding or exploration. The present study was aimed to determine the possible role of the central cholinergic systems in this effect. Immunohistochemistry for choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) was used to measure the number of active cholinergic neurons in their major groups (Ch1–Ch6) and in striatal regions in rats subjected to unilateral electrocoagulation and contralateral VTA electrical stimulation (L/S group) in comparison to the unilaterally stimulated (S), unilaterally lesioned (L) and sham (Sh) groups. The study showed that unilateral VTA lesion increased (as compared to Sh group) the number of ChAT+ neurons in the Ch1–Ch3 and unilateral VTA stimulation increased the number in the Ch1 and the ventral pallidum only. The most sensitive to these changes in the mesolimbic system were cholinergic structures providing hippocampal afferentation. Surprisingly, there was no significant increase in the number of ChAT+ neurons in the L/S group. The obtained results did not confirm any evident influence of the cholinergic systems on the VTA lesion-induced facilitation of the behavioral response evoked by contralateral VTA stimulation.

Abstract Die seelischen Folgen aus der unglücklichen Dreiecksgeschichte in Wetzlar umschreibt Goethe rückblickend als ,historia morbi‘ oder ,taedium vitae‘. Seine eigene Krankengeschichte verbindet er im Werther mit anderen Fällen. Nie zuvor hat ein Ich so rückhaltlos von sich selbst erzählt, ohne den Autor dabei völlig preiszugeben. Nicht der Held, sondern das Büchlein empfiehlt sich als ein Freund, der das Publikum über den Menschen aufklärt. Tragische Leidenschaft und Selbstmord wären bloß schrecklich und kein Fundament für Freundschaft, die daraus kausal entwickelte Geschichte hingegen ist fesselnd und erhellend. Die Innovation des Werther besteht in der Suggestion von Authentizität, erstens durch Versatzstücke aus der Wirklichkeit und zweitens durch Darstellung einer lebendig dramatisierten, ,inneren Geschichte‘ aus der Ich-Perspektive. Das empfiehlt den Roman für mehrere Bühnenadaptionen, von denen hier Willers ,,bürgerliches Trauerspiel“ von 1778 betrachtet wird. Goethes neuartige Darstellungsverfahren machen den Werther zum Kultbuch, das eine erste moderne ,,Ichzeit“ einleitet – noch vor M. Biller, R. Goetz, H. Hegemann, W. Herrndorf oder Chr. Kracht.In retrospect, Goethe describes the emotional consequences of the unfortunate love triangle in Wetzlar as ‘historia morbi’ or ‘taedium vitae’. In Werther, he connects his own medical history with other cases. Never before has an ego spoken so wholeheartedly about itself without revealing the author completely. Not the hero, but the little book is recommended as a “friend” who enlightens the public about the nature of man. Tragic passion and suicide would be merely horrific and not the foundation of friendship, but the reasonably arranged story is compelling and enlightening. Werther’s innovation consists in the suggestion of authenticity, firstly through set pieces from reality and secondly through the depiction of a vividly dramatized ‘inner story’ from the first-person perspective. This recommends the novel for several stage adaptations, of which Willer’s “bourgeois tragedy” from 1778 is considered here. Goethe’s innovative methods of presentation make Werther a cult book, introducing a first modern “ego time” before M. Biller, R. Goetz, W. Herrndorf or Chr. Kracht.

Abstract:

Four natural asphalts (NAs) from Buton Rock, Indonesia, which were abbreviated as BRA-A, BRA-B, BRA-C and BAR-D, were continuously extracted by solvents, subdivided into four fractions and analyzed with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. The transmission and reﬂection FTIR techniques were used to distinguish among different samples and fractions and to examine information concerning their structure, composition and structural changes upon fractional extract. Upon FTIR analysis, the methyl, methylene, oxhydryl and carboxyl groups are the major composition of these NAs. Some strong bonds at the zones of 2922-2856 cm-1, 1707-1606 cm-1 , 1453-1373 cm-1 , 1030 cm-1 and 872-748 cm-1 are assigned to >CH2 & -CH3 & –OH in carboxlic acid, ester & benzene ring, >C=O & -C-CH3, –CH2OH, -(CH2)n- & substituted benzene, etc. Much more care should be taken to investigate both N-containing functional groups and mineral multiphase compositions probably present in BRA-B, C and D.

Abstract:

Modifying additives impact – pro-oxidants – on low-density polyethylene oxidative degradation under short-term aging conditions in a thermostat with forced convection at 70 °C and ultraviolet irradiation with different exposures (48, 96, 144 h) was studied. It is concluded that for polyethylene films modified with stearates of metals of variable valence, under short-term aging conditions, the formation of aldehydes (1733–1740 cm-1) and carboxyl (1700 cm-1) was observed and accompanied by a sharp decrease in the intensity of absorption bands at 1465–1470 cm-1, which is specific to stretching and bending deformations of CH2 of the polyethylene polymer matrix and indicating the destruction of polymer chains. It is shown that the short-term aging of oxidatively biodegradable polyethylene affects environmental and technological problems associated with the pollutants release, including in particular, formaldehyde and other pollutants.

Abstract:

Araştırmakta olduğumuz dönem Osmanlı Devleti’nin Kafkasya siyasetinde özel bir aşamayı oluşturmaktadır. Bu dönemde Osmanlı Devleti Kafkasya’da güçlenme konusunda Doğu’da geleneksel rakibi Safevi evleti dışında Rusya İmparatorluğu ile de mücadele etmek zorunda kaldı. Osmanlı Devleti, önceki dönemlerde olduğu gibi, 1720-1730’lu yıllarda da rakipleri ile mücadelede yerli Müslüman yönetimleri güçlendirerek onlara güvenme siyasetini sürdürdü. Söz konusu yerel yönetimler arasında Azerbaycan’ın kuzeybatısında bulunan Sahur (İlisu) Sultanlığı, Şeki Hâkimliği ve Car-Tala Cemaatlikleri bölgesel ağırlığa sahipti. Bu durumu dikkate alan Osmanlı Devleti, söz konusu bölgesel güçlerle ilişkilere özel önem vermişti. Mevcut durumda yerel yöneticiler daha çok kendi çıkarlarını koruma yönünde hareket etseler de, Osmanlı-Safevi-Rusya rekabetinde Osmanlı yönetimini kabul etmeyi tercih ediyorlardı. Bu seçimde dinî faktör önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Çalışmamızda XVIII. yüzyılın 20-30’lu yıllarında Azerbaycan’ın kuzeybatı topraklarının Osmanlı Devleti’nin Kafkasya siyasetindeki yeri ve rolü dönemin kaynaklarına istinaden ele alınmıştır.

Abstract:

Catalytic tar removal is one of the main challenges restricting the successful commercialization of biomass gasification. Hot gas cleaning using a heterogeneous catalyst is one of the methods used to remove tar. In order to economically remove tar, an efficient low-cost catalyst should be applied. Biomass char has the potential to be such a catalyst. In this work, the reactor parameters that affect the conversion of a model tar component “naphthalene” were investigated employing an in situ thermogravimetric analysis of a fixed bed of biomass char. The following reactor and catalyst parameters were investigated: bed temperature (750 to 900 °C), gas residence time in the char bed (0.4 to 2.4 s), char particle size (500 to 1700 μm), feed naphthalene concentration, feed gas composition (CO, CO2, H2O, H2, CH4, naphthalene, and N2), char properties, and char precursor. It was found that the biomass char has a high activity for naphthalene conversion. However, the catalytic performance of the biomass char was affected by the gasification reactions that consumed its carbon, and the coke deposition that reduced its activity. Furthermore, high ash and iron contents enhanced char activity. The results of this work will be used in the design of a process that uses biomass char as an auto-generated catalyst in the gasification process.

Abstract:

Abstract Gas chromatography/matrix isolation/Fourier transform infrared (GC/MI/FTIR) spectroscopy and GC/mass spectrometry (MS) were used to confirm the identities of trimethylsilyl (TMS) derivatives of trichothecene mycotoxins in naturally contaminated grains. Infrared spectral bands observed in the fingerprint region were unique for 10 trichothecene standards. Characteristic absorption bands were observed for the ester (near 1750 cm-1) and ketone (near 1700 cm-1) carbonyl stretching vibrations, the acetate CH3 symmetric bend (1370 cm-1), the epoxide ring (1262 cm-1), the trimethylsilyl CH3 in-plane deformation (1253 cm-1), the ester (O)C-O asymmetric stretching vibration (near 1244 cm-1), and several other bands including intense features due to the TMS function. Infrared bands observed under cryogenic matrix isolation conditions were compared with those found at room temperature in a potassium bromide matrix for 5 of these standards. Identities of deoxynivalenol (DON) from barley and mixed feed, nivalenol from wheat and barley, and DON and fusarenon-x from sweet corn were confirmed by comparison of their infrared spectral bands with those of standards. The identity of DON in the same test samples of sweet corn was confirmed further by GC/MS. GC/MS was also used to quantitate the levels of DON (67-455 ppm) in sweet corn test samples.

In Griechenland haben die Zuwanderer die Suffixe -ss und -nth oder -nd nicht erst kennengelernt, sondern zumindest zum Teil schon mitgebracht und vermutlich im 3. Jahrtausend v. Johann Georg Sulzer participe d’une tradition allemande et wolffienne qui conjugue réflexion épistémologique et esthétique. L’originalité de Sulzer au sein de cette tradition consiste à développer un nouveau modèle de la connaissance comme contemplation (qewrei`n, speculatio). Selon ce modèle spéculatif qui emprunte des éléments à l’esthétique de Du Bos, la distance et l’extériorité du spectateur par rapport à son objet est loin d’être le réquisit d’une bonne vision. Celle-ci dépend tout au contraire de l’appartenance du spectateur au monde qu’il contemple, de sa réceptivité, de sa sensibilité et de son humanité. Car l’âme ne peut déployer son activité de pensée qu’à condition de s’attacher d’abord à son objet : un tel attachement est la condition de son détachement. La mise en place de ce nouveau modèle spéculatif répond à l’injonction de Mérian qui est de repenser la conscience ou l’aperception à partir d’un sentiment a posteriori. Car « l’oeil ne se voit pas voir » (Mérian), et l’aperception primitive, cet acte par lequel l’esprit se pense, lui échappe. Il éprouve néanmoins des sentiments — de plaisir et de déplaisir — qui le contraignent à faire retour sur lui-même et sur son état d’être affecté ; des sentiments dont Sulzer considère qu’ils ancrent sa connaissance dans la réalité et lui permettent de la rapporter à soi-même. C’est ainsi qu’au fil des mémoires académiques des années 1750 à 1770, Sulzer élabore une nouvelle conception tripartite des facultés (connaissance, sentiment et méditation), et une distinction entre domaines théorique et pratique qui marquera la philosophie de Kant. Ce débat au sein de l’Académie berlinoise au sujet de la connaissance de soi donne une nouvelle orientation anthropologique à la philosophie allemande de la seconde moitié du xviiie siècle.

Die Wiederaufnahme der archäologischen Untersuchungen der hallstattzeitlichen Hügelnekropole in Bârseşti ermöglicht sowohl die Auswertung der unpublizierten Ausgrabungen als auch die akribische Dokumentation eines Tumulus’. Die Arbeit umreißt den Forschungsstand, beschreibt die Paläogeographie der Region und stellt die zwei Monteoru-Gräber des Keramikstils Ic2 (2000-1750 v. Chr.) dar. Weiterhin wird die Bauart des neu ausgegrabenen Hügelgrabes 32 beschrieben und eine Typologie der Hügelbauarten in Bârseşti durchgeführt. Die C14-Daten dreier hallstattzeitlicher Bestattungen lassen das Ende der Nekropole in der Mitte des 6. Jhs. v. Chr. vermuten. Die anthropologischen Untersuchungen der Leichenbrandreste erwachsene Individuen, die bei einer Temperatur von 800-1000º C verbrannt wurden. Die Einschätzung der verwendeten Energie für die Errichtung des Hügelgrabes 32 weist darauf hin, daß es von einem kleinen Familienverband erbaut worden sein könnte.

Abstract:

The objective of this study was to identify intake and digestion characteristic(s) responsible for variation in methane (CH4) emissions from non-lactating cows fed pasture forage. Nine Friesian × Jersey cows ranked low, medium or high CH4 emitters [group means 15.3, 19.2 and 24.8 g kg-1 dry matter intake (DMI), respectively; P = 0.015] were selected from a herd of 302 lactating cows. The selected cows were dried-off, rumen-fistulated, and fed indoors on fresh pasture forage at 0700 and 1700. Voluntary feed intake (VFI), feeding behaviour and intake rates (IR) were measured over 5 d. Feed allowance was reduced to 90% of VFI for measurement of CH4 emissions and rumen fermentation and digestion kinetics parameters. Although some variation in CH4 yield remained among the animals (26.4 ± 3.6 g kg-1 DMI), the previous ranking of cows during lactation was no longer evident during this study (P = 0.41). The change in CH4 yields may have resulted from lower feed intakes of lower quality pasture compared with grazing. Regression analysis showed that absolute CH4 emission (g d-1) was best described by DMI and rumen acetate concentration (ACE) before the PM feeding (ACE 1700) (R2 = 0.88), whereas CH4 yield (g kg-1DMI) was mainly a function of ACE 1700 h alone (R2 = 0.84). We suggest that large animal-to-animal variations in CH4 yield are most likely associated with high intakes and concomitant effects of salivation and rumen digestion and passage. Abstract:

Ethyl cellulose was grafted with ionic liquids in optimal yields (62.5–64.1%) and grafting degrees (5.93–7.90%) by the esterification of the hydroxyl groups in ethyl cellulose with the carboxyl groups in ionic liquids. In IR spectra of the ethyl cellulose derivatives exhibited C=O bond stretching vibration peaks at 1760 or 1740 cm−1, confirming the formation of the ester groups and furnishing the evidence of the successful grafting of ethyl cellulose with ionic liquids. The ethyl cellulose grafted with ionic liquids could be formed into membranes by using the casting solution method. The resulting membranes exhibited good membrane forming ability and mechanical properties. The EC grafted with ionic liquids-based membranes demonstrated PCO2/PCH4 separation factors of up to 18.8, whereas the PCO2/PCH4 separation factor of 9.0 was obtained for pure EC membrane (both for CO2/CH4 mixture gas). The membranes also demonstrated an excellent gas permeability coefficient PCO2, up to 199 Barrer, which was higher than pure EC (PCO2 = 46.8 Barrer). Therefore, it can be concluded that the ionic liquids with imidazole groups are immensely useful for improving the gas separation performances of EC membranes.

Abstract CD28-derived co-stimulation modules are frequently used as part of the signaling domain of chimeric antigen receptors (CAR). These modules contain well characterized tyrosine-containing moieties (YMNM and PYAP) that become phosphorylated upon CAR activation, and result in IL-2 secretion and T cell expansion. Previous work by our group has shown that an additional tyrosine residue, located in the C-terminus of CD28 (Y218), was also phosphorylated upon CAR activation. The kinase responsible for this phosphorylation remains unknown, but in silico studies point towards the IL-2-inducible T-cell kinase (ITK), the protein-tyrosine kinase TEC and the bone marrow tyrosine kinase (BMX). In this work we sought to elucidate the molecular mechanism and functional relevance of CD28-Y218 phosphorylation in CAR-T cells.To analyze the kinetics of Y218 phosphorylation, prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA)-specific second-generation CAR-T cells were stimulated through co-culture with HPAC pancreatic cancer cells for 0, 1, 10, 30 and 60 minutes. Phosphorylation of CD28 Y218, Zap70, PLCγ and Vav1 was analyzed by Western blotting. To determine the role of ITK in CD28-218 phosphorylation: 1) PSCA-specific CAR-T cells were treated with ITK inhibitors 10 μM (BMS-509744 or Ibrutinib) for 24h and 2) ITK-deficient Jurkat cells expressing a PSCA-specific CAR were cocultured with HPAC cells for 0 or 10 min. To determine the functional relevance of this phosphorylation event, we generated mutant CARs where the tyrosine residue was replaced with a non-phosphorylatable amino acid (Y218F) and evaluated its effects in vivo and in vitro. CAR-T cell cytotoxicity was monitored using the xCELLigence Real Time Cytotoxicity Assay (RTCA) and cytokine production was assessed following overnight co-culture with target cells using the ELLA system (Biotechne, CA, USA). To evaluate the in vivo antitumor efficacy of PSCA-specific CAR-T cells, NSG mice were injected (s.c.) with 1 HPAC cells and infused 14 days later with 5 CAR-T cells (i.v.). Tumor growth was monitored for 35 days.Our results show that phosphorylation of CD28-Y218 occurs after the phosphorylation of early TCR signaling mediators, reaching maximum levels around 10-30 min post-stimulation. Pharmacological inhibition and genomic ablation of ITK impairs CD28-Y218 phosphorylation, suggesting an essential role of ITK in this signaling event. We observed that mutation of the Y218 residue did not affect CAR expression, in vitro cytotoxicity, or INFγ production. However, this mutation was associated with reduced IL-2 and TNFα secretion. In vivo, this mutation completely abrogated the therapeutic effect of CAR-T cells in a pancreatic cancer model. In conclusion, these results indicate that ITK is required for CD28-Y218 phosphorylation, a signaling event that plays an important role in CAR-T cell function, with direct impact on IL-2 secretion and antitumor efficacy. During the past 35 years, the major railroad companies and the Association of American Railroads all have invested heavily in the development of computerized car-for-car scheduling systems designed to help keep carload rail traffic moving on schedule. Unfortunately, these systems have not worked as intended, because railroad operations do not really lend themselves to handling cars on an individual basis out in the field. The experience at Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) has borne that out. Beyond that, rail markets have shifted steadily to the large, annual use-rate customers that move heavy carload shipments, and those heavy carload markets are less sensitive to transit-time unreliability than the small carload markets that were more typical in the early postwar era. Shipper cost models developed at Transmode and Science Applications International Corporation have been used to analyze the traffic moving in a number of typical carload markets on Conrail during 1998. That analysis shows why unreliable service, if planned for by shippers and receivers, will not unduly increase “nontransport logistics costs.” Thus, it can be concluded from both experience and theory that the railroads should give up trying to use car scheduling to control carload service quality in real time. They should concentrate, instead, on improving car cycle times and reconfiguring shipper supply chains to take advantage of the lower costs associated with large carload shipments.
