Abstract:
This article intends to understand the motivation, strategy and effects of the economic diplomacy exercised by the EU and China in their forty years-old relationship. The article examines the EU-China economic history which can be divided into four periods: the starting-up period (1975-1988), the 'Low Tide' Period (1989-1992), the 'Honeymoon' period (1993-2005), and the 'Turbulent' period (2006 till now). The cases of economic diplomacy chosen here are those of strategic importance, i.e. which had a direct bearing on the overall development of EU-China relations, instead of the specific nitty-gritty negotiations of technical nature. The last part summarizes the characteristics of the EU's economic diplomacy in its long-time relationship with China.

Abstract:
Yasheng Huang presents a detailed and meticulous analysis of foreign direct investment (FDI) in China during the reform period. The author should be commended for collecting and analysing descriptive information on China-based FDI that is useful to practitioners as much as to researchers, and for arguing a seemingly intriguing thesis about China's economic ascent. He also presents a number of industry cases, some of which, like that on the Chinese handicraft industry, are particularly captivating. Yet, at the end of the day, what this book does best in my mind is illustrate the confines of traditional academic paradigms when faced with real-life phenomena that are too broad and complex to be captured by a single lens. This is, it itself, an important service.

Some American economists have contemplated taking a visiting academic post at a Chinese University. This article is to help inform an American economist what some facets of the experience may be like. There is a literature review, which includes the work of Gregory Chow who was one of the most influential economists, who ascertained the economic education needs of China, once Deng Xiaoping wished to implement a much less Maoist economic model. The experience of an American economist who was a visiting faculty member in China for almost twelve years serves as the basis of this story. The results of this article several cities in China have produced an outlook of what contemplating American faculty to be mindful of. One can learn a lot through assignments in China. Knowing how to convey a respectful attitude towards Chinese will usually increase the respect the Chinese show visiting American economics faculty.

This research paper presents an analytical overview of ChinaPakistan bilateral trade, Free Trade Agreements and Chinese Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan. Geo-economics has become a focal point in inter-state relations. Initially, geo-economics was analyzed by the theorists as an element of Geostrategic politics along with other elements for projecting power. According to realists and Neorealists, military power is the primary element of exercising power in global politics. Paul Kennedy was one of the leading scholars who discussed the relation between national power and economic resources of the country in his work entitled; The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers.

Abstract:
Geo-economics is becoming an integral component of inter-state relations. States are employing economic instruments to project their power, thus, redefining their traditional relations with other states. Pakistan and China view each other as strategic partners. Over the decades, China has extended considerable economic, military and technical assistance to Pakistan. As both neighbours expand their economic relationship through infrastructure development and trade corridors, including the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), such cooperation will directly interact with their existing strategic partnership. Beijing and Islamabad have been pursuing their geo-strategic interests in a framework that is progressively being shaped by geo-economics. The Chinese role and interests, in shaping the regional security order, are increasing. Geo-economic instruments are being employed to achieve geo-strategic objectives in a region, which is already marked by conflict and instability. This study explores how expanding economic relationship between Beijing and Islamabad will influence the bilateral strategic engagement, and in turn, impact the dynamics of the regional security.

To study the enlightenment of development economics on the economic development of urban planning, firstly, the research background and significance of the enlightenment of development economics on the economic development of urban planning are introduced. Secondly, through the main method of literature review, social investigation method, theoretical model analysis method and so on, combined with relevant theory of economics and related data analysis, it is found that economic theory can effectively explain the problems existing in the urban planning, avoid possible problems in urban planning, and provide effective theory basis for the development of the city. In this study, the theoretical value of the sub-optimal theoretical model, the supply and demand analysis model and the marginal analysis model under the pareto optimal state in the economic development of urban planning is mainly studied. A large number of theories and research results confirm that to do a good job in urban planning must be guided by relevant economic theories, which will make the progress of urban planning more rapid.

Abstract:
World trade has become increasingly regionalized in the past decade as a result of preferential arrangements. Due to Taiwan's unique international political status, its present government believes that closer economic integration with China would enhance Taiwan's economic prosperity and prevent Taiwan from being marginalized in East Asia. Taiwan hence signed the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) with China in 2010. This paper summarizes arguments opposed to the ECFA from economic and political perspectives. Despite the fact that Taiwan is expected to reap greater benefits from deeper integration with China, simulation analyses show that the welfare-enhancing effect brought about by the ECFA is quite limited, because the ECFA contains no definite content or timeline other than an early harvest list.

Abstract:
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a multi-billion-dollar collection of ongoing and planned Chinese projects in Pakistan ranging from infrastructure development to the establishment of special economic zones and the sharing of technical expertise by China. For China, it is an integral part of its ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) through which it aims to establish its economic hegemony in Eurasia and Africa. For Pakistan, it is an opportunity to bring its stumbling economy to some semblance of stability and even growth. Therefore, now the policy makers of the country must wake up and use the valuable human resource like youth for nation building. In this context, attainment of higher education should be ensured. However, there are controversies regarding the initiative as well, with critics decrying it as an attempt at the economic exploitation of Pakistan at the hands of China. In any case, CPEC is a project that has immense ramifications for the geo-politics of the entire region, particularly with regard to economic affairs. Hence, it is important to analyze its effects and the views of the general public regarding it in order to understand the situation in terms of geo-economics.

Abstract:
This article advocates the thesis that the People?s Republic of China, in accordance with a strong geopolitical strategy, is using geo-economics tools in the context of reshaping global powers? influence in diverse parts of the world. One of these spatial dimensions of Chinese emerging domination refers to the Western Balkans, primarily through the economic presence of China in this region. To address this issue first will be considered concepts of geopolitics and geo-economics, followed by highlighting China?s presence in the Western Balkans region and flourishing infrastructure projects in the domain of transport and energy. The research is conducted by relying on the existing databases on China?s economic involvement in different economy sectors worldwide, mainly from China Global Investment Tracker (CGIT) and AidData?s Global Chinese Official Finance Dataset for the WB countries in the period 2013-2018. Special attention is given to China?s benefits in terms of realizing those projects, even though the Western Balkans countries? market is not attractive per se. Finally, some concluding remarks have been made in terms of the potentials of China?s strategy to reconsider political and security dynamics in the Western Balkans.

Abstract:
This paper aims to introduce Professor Shi Zhengyi’s early theoretical views and contributions to ethnic economics to the international academic community. China’s ethnic minorities live in the western regions, and their economic and social development for a long time has been far behind that of the eastern and central areas where the Han majority live. Professor Shi Zhengyi proposed in March 1979 that China needed to establish and develop ethnologic economics. It is a particular branch of economics in China with solid Chinese characteristics. Ethnologic economics, starting from the status and role of ethnic factors in economic activities, studies the economic changes and economic relations of ethnic groups or ethnic regions. The ethnologic economy has the characteristics of duality and diversity, which is the starting point of the study of national economics. Ethnologic economics has adapted to the national conditions of China’s multi-ethnic country and the needs of China’s modernization drive. It has the dual disciplinary attribution of Ethnology and economics. It is hoped that the international academic community will take an interest in ethnologic economics and apply the research results of Chinese ethnologic economists to promote societies in other countries similar to China’s ethnic minority areas’ economic development.

Abstract:
Research background: Religion is often neglected by economists despite the existing studies of its importance for the economy. Religion and culture shape the development of informal and formal institutions and hence impact economic development. Considering the economic importance of China, the religious situation in that country deserves attention; at the same time, due to the peculiar conditions of religion under Communism, the future of religion in China seems rather unclear. Purpose of the article: The paper proposes that the economics of religion may be useful in the analysis of the religious situation in China. It shows the possibilities of applying the economic approach even where markets are suppressed, such as under Communist rule. In light of economic theory, it shows that the experience of Central European countries under Communist rule, particularly Czechoslovakia, may provide clues about the future of religion in China. Methods: The paper builds on previous findings in the economics of religion. It reviews the theories concerning the regulation of the religious markets and the effects of deregulation, as well as the theories specifically developed to analyze religion under heavy regelation and the strategies for its survival. The history of Communist China and Czechoslovakia are compared with regard to those theories. Findings & Value added: The paper shows the similarities between Communist China and Czechoslovakia. The parallels seem useful to predict the further development of religion in China, including the effect of the possible tightening of anti-religious policies as well as those of deregulation upon the liberalization of the Chinese political regime.

Abstract. Introduction. Nowadays the world is on the cusp of major changes. The eastern market is becoming much more popular, important and powerful for the international community. India and China are already openly fighting for world domination through the dynamic growth of their own economic and military potential. It should be noted that, it was important for a detailed analysis of the economies of these eastern countries not only to process statistics, but also to take into account traditions and culture. Purpose. The main idea of this article is to understand clearly the aspects of further development of the world economy and to identify economic risks and trends, analyzing the following macroeconomic indicators of eastern giants’ countries. Results. A detailed analysis of the dynamics of GDP’s changes over the past 5 years was conducted and once again emphasized the power of these national economics that has only grown in recent decades. The importance of initiatives and innovations, creating by the eastern neighbors for the world community, was highlighted through a determination of the role of India and China in the integration international associations and study of the attracted investments. The interdependence of the world’s market and the eastern market of India and China was considered, a detailed breakdown of exports and imports of goods and services was carried out and that gives us the opportunity to identify the most important and most powerful groups of goods for today. Conclusions. The study identified similar aspects of the development of emerging economies such as India and China, which were supported by reports from objective sources of statistical information. Determining the macroeconomic situation of the next national economies allowed us to explain how the COVID-19 pandemic changed the action plan of the studied countries, to find weaknesses of strong enough economies, and also to make certain predictions about the future world market.

Abstract:
Abstract. Serious haze can cause contaminant diseases that trigger productive labour time by raising mortality and morbidity rates in cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Health studies rarely consider macroeconomic impacts of industrial interlinkages while disaster studies seldom involve air pollution and its health consequences. This study adopts a supply-driven input–output model to estimate the economic loss resulted from disease-induced working-time reduction across 30 Chinese provinces in 2012 using the most updated Chinese multiregional input–output table. Results show a total economic loss of CNY 398.23 billion ( ∼ 1 % of China's GDP in 2012), with the majority coming from Eastern China and the Mid-South. The total number of affected labourers amounts to 82.19 million. Cross-regional economic impact analysis indicates that the Mid-South, North China, and Eastern China entail the majority of the regional indirect loss. Indeed, most indirect loss in North China, the Northwest and the Southwest can be attributed to manufacturing and energy in other regions, while loss in Eastern China, the Mid-South and the Northeast largely originate from coal and mining in other regions. At the subindustrial level, most inner-regional loss in North China and the Northwest originate from coal and mining, in Eastern China and Southwest from equipment and energy, and in the Mid-South from metal and non-metal. These findings highlight the potential role of geographical distance in regional interlinkages and regional heterogeneity in inner- and outer-regional loss due to distinctive regional economic structures and dependences between the north and south.

Abstract:
Comparative study is significant for the reform of corporate governance in transitional economies like China. Influenced by the Berle- Means problem, this kind of study is usually under the auspices of the agency theory. However, besides the agency theory, another important theoretical framework to examine corporate governance is transaction cost economics. Based on transaction cost economics, it demonstrates that the governance structure of Japanese vertical keiretsu may promote the enforcement of relational contract other than the function to monitor the performance of managers. This understanding has positive implications for the Venture Capital (VC)-backed strategic alliances in China.

Abstract:
Bamboos constitute a very important and versatile resource worldwide. A lot of Asian, African and South American people rely on bamboo products for their housing and farming tools. Meanwhile, the shoots of these plants are regarded as vegetables in East and South-East Asian nations. China has the greatest bamboo forest area (extension) and the largest number of bamboo species (more than 590 species), many of them with significant economic importance, being Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis), the most important bamboo species in China, due to its usage not only as timber but also for food. China has paid unprecedented attention in recent decades to bamboo forest management. The vast economic profits derived from silviculture have contributed much to rural development and poverty alleviation. Bamboo industry has become the pillar of economy in mountainous areas. Besides being a tool for poverty alleviation in rural areas, bamboo plantations are also a significant carbon sink and a key option to mitigate land degradation. This paper highlights such aspects as bamboo silviculture (fertilization, pruning, thinning, irrigation, shoot and timber harvesting) its domestic and international applications (timber, plywood, food, paper, fuel, housing, etc.) in daily life, and its current role in Chinese industry and economy, without particular reference to any of its species.
