Abstract:

After originating in China, the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world. Italy was the next country severely hit by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, before the rest of Europe and the world. As Italy struggled to cope with this mounting crisis, China seized the momentum through an aggressive mix of public diplomacy, aid support and disinformation activities. By helping Italy, China pursued three goals: transforming its weaknesses in strengths by shifting the narrative over its handling of the COVID-19 crisis; promoting its management of the situation as the proof of the strength of its governance model; showing to the Italians, the Europeans and the world how Italy was benefitting from being a member of the Belt and Road Initiative. China’s activism in Italy prompted reaction from the United States, and the COVID-19 strained relations between the two superpowers even further. While the idea that a new Cold War is brewing might be far-fetched, the relations between the two are now less and less cooperative. This increasing competition will also impact Italy’s diplomatic freedom of action vis-à-vis China – a trend that is not set to change as the new J.Biden administration takes over in the United States, as his approach to China is likely to be less erratic and more consistent, but hardly softer than Trump’s China policy.

Abstract:

Cooperation of the EU members with China is now under increasing supervision of Washington and Brussels. The growing US-China confrontation direct impacts the relations between the EU and PRC, contributing to the adoption by Brussels of tighter control over investments in strategic sectors of economy. EU member states have to adapt their bilateral relations with China to these new developments. Formed in February 2021, the new Italian government of M. Draghi over the past eight months has nearly completed the reversal in relations with Beijing, questioning not only the memorandum of understanding signed in March 2019, but also tightening the mechanisms of control over investments coming from China.

Abstract:

Italy’s engagement with China, aptly represented by the Belt and Road Initiative Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2019, is premised on continuity and on Rome’s economic calculations in the trade and investment agendas. Scraping the surface of populist Eurosceptic posturing, the engagement has hardly been at the detriment of the European Union’s China agenda. Yet, in light of the United States’ pushback against China and the growing fatigue following the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic, Italy–China relations have quietly, but steadily, cooled.

Abstract:

- According to the author, after the Second World War, Italy was too weak to build an autonomous foreign policy in China or to influence the conflict between Communists and Nationalists. However, Italian diplomacy, especially the Italian ambassador in China Sergio Fenoaltea, tried to have his own vision of the Chinese Civil War and to take advantage of the weakness of Italy to establish a good relationship with the Kuomintang government: China was a great power, especially at the United Nations, and it could be very important for the future of Italy. Furthermore, Fenoaltea criticized Marshall's mediation between the Communists and the Nationalists along with the American endorsement of Jiang Jieshi. From the perspective of the Italian ambassador, the USA was not able to understand the situation in China or to support a really democratic force. Finally, Italian diplomats in China tried to be equidistant between the two parties acting during the Civil War to protect the little Italian community in China and to not impair the possibility of a pacific and positive relationship with the future winner of the Civil War. Abstract:

In December 2019, a new infectious respiratory disease called COVID-19 was identified in Wuhan, Hubei province, in China and quickly reached pandemic status in March 2020, in uncertain and frightening situation. The objective of this study was to analyze the epidemiological curves from the fight against COVID-19 in China and Italy, establishing parameters that can assist with the decisions of health-planning managers. This study was conducted using the principles of the grounded theory methodology and a practical method of comparison between the real and ideal curves, based on the contamination and death data by SARS-CoV-2 in China and Italy. For this purpose, we built graphs, including parameters, such as, among others, amplitude, height, saturation point, acceleration, lethality, event, risk, and efficiency. The results of our study showed that China exhibited amplitude and height of the active contamination and death curve 2 times smaller than those of Italy which exhibited several saturations. It was investigated that Italy presented a qualitative risk of 5–6, whereas for China it was 4. According to the parameters, China and Italy presented health management that was able to reduce the impact caused by the virus. The implementation of adequate health management with these practical tools can guide perception of the crisis critical levels, avoiding major disasters. We intend to continue to validate the method in the analysis of data from Brazil and the USA.

Abstract:

The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is believed to originate in China from where it spread to other parts of the world. The first cluster of diseased individuals was reported in China as early as in December 2019. It has also been well established that the virus stroke Italy later in January or in February 2020, hence distinctly after the outbreak in China. The work by Apolone et al. published in the Italian Medical Journal in November 2020 and retracted upon expression of concern on 22 March 2021, however propose that the virus could have stroke people already in September 2019, possibly following even earlier outbreak in China. By fitting an early part of the epidemic curve with the exponential and extrapolating it backwards, we could estimate the day-zero of the epidemic and calculated its confidence intervals in Italy and China. We also calculated how probable it is that Italy encountered the virus prior 1 January 2020. We determined an early portion of the epidemic curve representing unhindered exponential growth which fit the exponential model with high determination >0.97 in both countries. We conservatively suggest that the day-zero in China and Italy was 8 December 2019 (95% CI: 3 Dec., 20 Dec.) and 22 January 2020 (95% CI: 16 Jan., 29 Jan.), respectively. Given the uncertainty of the very early data in China and adjusting hence our model to fit the exponentially behaved data only, we can even admit that the pandemic originated through November 2019 (95% CI: 31 Oct., 22 Dec.). With high confidence (p <0.01) China encountered the virus prior Italy. We generally view any pre-pandemic presence of the virus in humans before November 2019 as very unlikely. The later established dynamics of the epidemics data suggests that the country of the origin was China.

Abstract:

In modern times, the United States, Russia, and China are among the world's economic giants. However, China is now moving towards becoming the most economically developed country. As a result of state reforms in 1979, China's economic development was marked by the prospect of free trade, and thus China became one of the hegemons of our time. However, every rise has a decline, and this decline has manifested itself in the Chinese economy. Due to the COVID19 virus in Wuhan, China, the country suddenly became the center of a pandemic. Educational institutions have shut down, companies have gone online, tourists have been given limited access to the country, and even travel to China from most countries has been suspended. Another country that was hit by a second pandemic after China was Italy, and just two months later, after China, Italy, then the United States, then Russia, and Brazil fell into the pandemic. The first country affected by the pandemic, of course, was China. Because the entrances and exits of a country with great economic development were suddenly stopped and ticket offices were closed. Buddha stopped the inflow of foreign currency into the country. However, if we look at developed countries such as Italy and France, China has suffered less from the pandemic than Italy, France, and Russia. China prevented the spread of the pandemic, took a number of measures at the state level, and thus there was almost no infection with COVID19 in China in March. China, albeit partially, has re-entered the country and resumed life. As a result of these measures taken by China, economic development within the country has already resumed. Abstract:

The present thesis focuses on the issue of domestic violence, describing the phenomenon from an historical, statistical and legislative point of view. In particular, after an introduction of the history and specific measures adopted to fight the issue worldwide, such as the CEDAW and DEVAW Conventions, the Beijing Conference and the Istanbul Convention, and the analysis of the related statistics of IPV (Intimate Partner Violence) and domestic homicide, the study focuses on the related legislation of China and Italy, underlining the laws of the two countries, starting from the first Marriage Law of the RPC to the last Law 69/2019 adopted in 2019 by the Italian government. The final aim is to provide the reader with the right instruments to understand and critically analyse the situation in both countries caused by the phenomenon.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of the institute of mediation in Italy and China, focusing, in particular, on the institutional and regulatory framework of this means of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in both countries. For this purpose, this dissertation is structured as follows: in the first chapter, I describe mediation in general terms, providing some basic and fundamental information about this ADR method (principles, fields of activity, types, procedure, pros and cons, role of mediator, and international development). In the second chapter, I specifically analyze traditions and trends of China’s mediation system, or tiaojie 调解, considered the oldest and most comprehensive dispute resolution program in the world. It includes, in fact, three different categories of mediation: judicial, extra-judicial (divided into People’s mediation, administrative mediation and commercial mediation), and during arbitration proceedings. Moreover, the major institution dealing with mediation in China, that is the Mediation Center of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT)/China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) is also described. In the third chapter, instead, I outline the use of mediation in Italy, with particular reference to the Italian experience as far as mandatory mediation is concerned and the role of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM). Finally, the fourth and last chapter focuses on the resolution of commercial disputes between Italy and China through the Italy-China Business Mediation Center (ICBMC), which is the result of a cooperation agreement between the above-mentioned leading providers of mediation services in both China and Italy, and the Italy-China Chamber of Commerce (CCIC).

Abstract:

The object of this dissertation is the analysis of the principle of good faith in general and of its application in Italian and in Chinese jurisprudence in particular. In the first chapter I started introducing a definition of the principle in general and according to the Italian legal system. I made a brief historical excursus of the principle of good faith, describing the distinction between subjective and objective good faith and its expanding process in Italy from 1865 to the contemporary legal system. I underlined the differences of the conception of the principle of good faith within common and civil law countries and analyzed its application in contracts, including all the stages of life of the contract, its formation, execution, modification, annulment or termination. In the second chapter I analyzed the notion of good faith in China, its introduction and development. I started analyzing the introduction of the general clause of good faith in China and how this principle has changed in Chinese perception becoming more and more important and widespread so that, since 1990s, has been defined as the “queen of the general clauses” (帝王条款 diwangtiaokuan). Then I described the development in China of Contract Law and the importance of good faith according to this new law and its applications in contracts. In the last chapter I decided to make concrete examples of the violation of the principle of good faith analyzing different cases of non-fulfilment of duties from the parties of contracts between China and Italy.

Abstract:

This exploratory study is a cross-cultural comparative analysis of understanding inclusive education in Italy and China. The exploratory study aims to explore teachers' understanding of inclusive in Italian and Chinese context. Given that aim, a historical perspective is employed to understand the historical policy evolution of inclusive education in Italy and China and to carefully examine how inclusive education policy was issued in different history periods and how these inclusive education policies influenced the school practice. Particularly, based on the understanding of inclusive education in government policy and school teachers' day-to-day school practice, the present exploratory study wants to enrich our knowledge of "how to make education more inclusive" from a cross-cultural comparative perspective. In order to achieve these aims, a qualitative research design is employed, with understanding theory as a theoretical framework and various methods as tools. Thematic analysis is used to analyze the data with software-ATLAS.ti-aided. This cross-cultural comparative exploratory study's results show that a proper understanding of inclusive education should fully consider the local flavour in both Italian and Chinese cultural, historical and political contexts. Considering that, this exploratory study, to some extent, is not "comparative" because there is no attempt to treat the data from two quite different contexts as comparable, but I wish that various questions and issues which emerge from considering two quite different contexts, Italy and China, will be illuminating and enrich our understanding of how to make education more inclusive. Given the results of this exploratory study, there is not a single understanding of inclusive education. On the contrary, inclusive education has many faces, for that point, Chinese philosophy of "he er bu tong" (harmony but not sameness) provides us some implications.

Il mercato del destination wedding in Cina sta crescendo rapidamente, inizialmente concentrato nel sud-est asiatico, soprattutto nelle isole, come Bali e Phuket, ora, la continua ricerca di "occidentalizzazione" in particolare da parte dei giovani cinesi, arriva ad influenzare anche uno dei mercati più votati alla tradizione, ossia quello dei matrimoni; facendo si che destinazioni Europee,come l'Italia, entrino a far parte dell'immaginario e dei desideri delle coppie cinesi. Grazie all'aiuto studi precedenti (su matrimoni e mercato dei matrimoni), ricerche e statistiche proposte da enti governativi e non ma, soprattutto grazie ad interviste con professionisti del settore e ponendo grande attenzione alle loro impressioni e reali bisogni, l'autore cerca di sintetizzare le basi del mercato del destination wedding, ossia il turismo e in particolare il mercato del turismo di lusso, e le sue peculiarità. Il proposito di questo lavoro è di fornire una visione il più possibile completa ed attuale del marcato del destination wedding, sia in Italia che in Cina, per permettere di estrapolarne differenze e necessità e quindi di rispondere con offerte più appropriate alle coppie cinesi. Nella speranza che possa essere d'aiuto per la cooperazione e la conoscenza reciproca dei mercati italiano e cinese, per migliorare l'offerta attuale del nostro paese e dei nostri professionisti e far si che possano incontrare i reali bisogni della domanda e raggiungere una crescita a livello economico ed un graduale ampliamento dell'offerta attuale.

Yuanming Yuan è l’unico giardino Imperiale nella storia cinese, unisce giardini classici cinesi e giardini dell’Italia Rinascimentale e Barocca. Architetto Significativo per Yuanming Yuan Giuseppe Castiglione (1688 – 1766): La storia del Western Mansions ha inizio nel 1747, quando l’architetto, Giuseppe Castiglione riceve l’incarico di intraprendere i lavori del nuovo giardino Italiano dentro il giardino imperiale Yuanming Yuan. Giuseppe Castiglione ha avuto un ruolo importante come pittore, architetto, e politico nei tempi suoi in Cina. Castiglione riunì cultura tra Oriente e Occidente, teoria e pratica, potenza e virtù, pensiero e azione. Il Preludio: una genealogia di ricerche accademiche occidentali dei Yuanming Yuan (dal 1743 ad oggi). Nel primo capitolo vengono presentati i principi di arrangiamento dello spazio del Western Mansions – gli assi ortogonali per rappresentare la pianificazione territoriale, le prospettiva geometrica per ricercare la sequenza spazio, e gli elementi Italiani per leggere compositivamente il giardino. Nel secondo capitolo seguiranno note sui tradizionali giardini Cinesi di Yuanming Yuan – un sistema di Modularità. Il capitolo presenta Le Quaranta scene di Yuanming Yuan (1744) e la Cartografia di giardini anglo-cinese da Georges Louis Le Rouge (1707 – 1790), che sono stati analizzati per ricercare il sistema di Modularità del giardino Yuanming Yuan. Queste note servono a introdurre il terzo capitolo – il capitolo delle sperimentazioni sui giardini. I campioni rappresentativi delle sperimentazioni provengono dalle Bibliothèque nationale de France, dalle Mission Palais d’été, e dall’Università Tsinghua. Gli strumenti della mia ricerca scientifica sono stati: il modello tridimensionale digitale, il calcolo matematico, e l’analisi tipologica.

Abstract:

This study to analyze the development of Public Transportation in the application of smart cities in the United States, China, Italy, and Brazil. The result of public transportation services dramatically contributes to increase mobility, and safety, as well as having a positive impact in urban areas. This research method uses a qualitative approach to bibliometric analysis. The data source is taken from the Scopus and articles searched for the last ten years (2012-2021) using keywords smart city and public transportation. The data found, 293 articles, with the top four countries having the highest number of articles. United States by 41, China by 32, Italy by 23, and Brazil by 20. The data analysis technique in this study used the Nvivo12plus and Vosviwer. The study results there are three concept findings in the development of public transportation; mobility, policy, and connectivity. The four countries have different focuses on implementing public transportation. United States focuses on mobility, policy, and connectivity with indicators such as urban mobility, intelligent transportation management, and governance. China focuses on mobility and connectivity, smart urban mobility, criteria, infrastructure, economy, and the environment, China is not the policy concept. Italy and Brazil also focus on the idea of mobility and policy with indicators that focus on the progress of urban mobility analysis and efforts to improve the convenience of public transportation to increase demand. The concept of connectivity has not been a concern for Italy and Brazil. Within these four countries, the United States dominates the development of public transportation, because it has fulfilled the three concepts of public transportation, namely mobility, policy, and connectivity. It is hoped that from the analysis of the development of this research, the four countries can further improve technological advances based on the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to make public transportation smarter.

Abstract:

This paper aims to analyse if whether Gold (Gold Bullion: Zurich) and Silver (Silver Paris Spot E/KG) will be a safe haven for portfolio diversification in the financial markets of Germany (DAX 30), USA (DOW JONES), France (CAC 4 0), Italy (FTSE MID), United Kingdom (FTSE 100), Hong Kong (Hang Seng), China (SHANGHAI SE ASHARE), Japan (NIKKEI 225), in the period between 1 January 2019 to 2 September 2020. In order to perform this analysis where undertaken different approaches to analyse if: (i) the gold and silver market will be a safe haven when financial markets break down? (ii) If so, can market shocks question portfolio diversification? The results suggest 53 pairs of integrated markets (out of 90 possible). Gold and Silver have integrations with each other and with the USA, but the other financial markets integrate with Gold and Silver, namely the US, France, UK, Italy and Hong Kong markets (the latter only with Silver). The China market has a single integration but is integrated by the USA, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany, which partially rejects the first investigation question. In corroboration, causality tests show 67 causal relationships (out of 90 possible). The Markets of Italy (FTSE MID), the USA (DOW JONES) cause, in the Grangerian sense, all its peers (9 out of 9 possible), while France (CAC 40), the United Kingdom (FTSE 100), Japan (NIKKEI 225), and Germany (DAX 30) cause 8 out of 9. Silver and Gold cause the financial markets 7, and 6 times (out of 9 possible), respectively, while the Hong Kong (Hang Seng) and China (SHANGHAI) markets cause 3 and once, respectively, which validates the second investigation question. Given the high level of integration and shocks between markets, portfolio diversification may be brought into question. These findings also make room for market regulators to take steps to ensure better information among international financial markets.

Abstract:

On 31.12.2019 China has announced that they have perceived an increasing number of pneumonia cases in Wuhan city. They have identified a new virus that they named SARSCoV-2. Disease that is caused by Covid-19 virus has been declared as pandemic on 11. march 2020 by the World Health Organisation. Until that day Covid-19 has spread to 114 countries with 118 000 cases and 4291 casualties. Countries have differently reacted to the pandemic outbreak accepted measures. In this paper we are analysing acceptance and enforcing of measures against pandemic outbreak SARS-CoV2 in the first outbreak in the selected countries: Great Britain, Serbia, Italy, China, Spain and USA.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, Wuhan had been first imposed lockdown measures from January 23 to April 8, 2020. After that, no new cases emerged from Hubei Province, and China achieved the first-staged victory in containing the epidemic. As the COVID-19 became a pandemic, Wuhan lockdown has inspired countries around the world. Under the framework of China’s public health system and urban space, this paper combines the data on responses in global affected areas, analyzes the global influence and inspirations of Wuhan lockdown, and compares and contrasts lockdowns and the compound systems in virus epicenter metropolitan areas in China with those in US, Italy and Japan. Finally, the paper proposes a new perspective of "Isolation of metropolitan areas" under the region-city-community networks, to discuss how to create a sustainable and healthy life for mankind by cooperation among the public health system, urban space and social value.

Abstract:

The COVID-19 pandemics will impact the demand for healthcare severely. It is essential to continually monitor and predict the expected number of new cases for each country. We explored the use of econometrics, machine learning, and ensemble models to predict the number of new cases per day for Brazil, China, Italy, and South Korea. These models can be used to make predictions in the short term, complementing the epidemiological models. Our main findings were: (i) there is no single best model for all countries; (ii) ensembles can, in some instances, improve the results of individual models; and (iii) the ML models had worse results due to the lack of data.
