Abstract:
Children’s literature is an area of frequent scholarship, reflecting its influential position in telling stories, developing literacy, and sharing knowledge in many cultures. At its best, children’s literature is transformative in the lives of children and their adult reading companions, and as such plays an important role in society. Indeed, in the last several decades, children’s literature has become an important focus of teaching and research in centres for literature and literary criticism, education, and library/information sciences in universities across the world. Much has been written about the historical undervaluing of children’s literature and research in this area (e.g., Nikolajeva, 2016). While there is considerable literature concerning the teaching of children’s literature in primary and secondary classrooms (e.g., Bland & Lütge, 2012; Arizpe & Styles, 2016; Ommundsen et al., 2021), there has been relatively little scholarship on the pedagogy involved in teaching children’s literature in a university setting with two notable exceptions. Teaching Children’s Fiction edited by Robert Butler (2006) presents eight chapters by experienced children’s literature teachers and scholars, mostly from Britain, concerning intellectual and educational traditions in children’s literature studies and teaching, sharing and discussion of teaching practices, and providing resources for teachers in this field. A Master Class in Children’s Literature, edited by April Bedford and Lettie Albright (2011), offers chapters in which children’s literature professors from across the United States of America share and reflect on their practice in relation to the structures of children’s literature courses, the characteristics and elements of children’s literature, and future trends and challenges in the teaching of children’s literature.

Abstract:
The role of libraries in education today is directed at implementing digitization, called library 4.0. There is a need for service innovation that is able to reach the needs of the digital natives. This study describes and analyzes the innovation of Library Services 4.0: Eco-Blended Libraries and Inclusion-Based Library at Universitas Negeri Malang’s Library. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The data were obtained through interviews with librarians, observation and documentation. The results showed that in an effort to create a library ecosystem 4.0, the library has succeeded in implementing innovations. These innovations are in the form of an Eco-Blended Library program such as an e-book garden, Beringin Baca, a children's play ground, a library café, art performances, movie talk, and discussion booths. In addition, inclusion-based library is also developed with the Integrated Library Information System (SIPADU) facility digitizing collections in collaboration with Indonesia OneSearch, chat reference services, online loan and extension library collections, as well as information literacy. As a suggestion, the library needs to increase the number of human resources who might more focus on digital library services, further encouraging human resources to conduct online scientific publications and participate in online training forums or groups.

Abstract:
Abstract Using data from the 1995 Malawi Financial Markets and Food Security Survey, this study seeks to discover if rural Malawian women's relative control over household resources or intra-household bargaining power, gauged by their access to microcredit, plays a role in young children's food security. Access to microcredit is assessed in a novel way as self-reported credit limits at microcredit organizations. Since credit limits, that is, the maximum sums that might be borrowed, hinge upon supply-side factors such as the availability of credit programs and the financial resources of lenders, it is plausible they are more exogenous than demand driven loan uptake or participation in microcredit organizations, the common ways of gauging access to microcredit. It is found that household expenditure on food significantly increases in women's, though not in men's, access to microcredit. Thus, increasing rural Malawian women's relative control over household resources may yield children greater food security. It is also found that women's access to microcredit improves 0–6 year old girls', though not boys', long-term nutrition. Thus, empowering these women may deliver more benefit to girls than boys.

The moving image plays a significant role in teaching and learning; faculty in a variety of disciplines consider it a crucial component of their coursework. Yet little has been written about how faculty identify, obtain, and use these resources and what role the library plays. This study, which engaged teaching faculty in a dialogue with library faculty, revealed a gap between faculty’s film and video information retrieval needs and provision of access by the library. Ultimately, the findings of this study can inform and transform library practices to make more moving images available for use in coursework and research.

A pictorial approach for introducing children to fundamental ideas about information design may present fewer problems for teachers than a verbal approach. In education generally, pictures have become a more pervasive feature of instructional strategies and resources. This article considers how information design might be approached in the classroom by having children develop original explanatory pictures. Such an approach would require both a reconcep-tualisation of the purposes of children's classroom drawing and the development of teaching strategies that sensitise children to the needs of information users.

Several libraries in New York City have exceptionally rich resources for the study of relations between African Americans and Jewish Americans. The holdings of and access to these collections are discussed; some sources in other parts of the U.S. are mentioned as well. The most important collection is in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, The New York Public Library. Besides books, there is a vast Clipping File, the unique Kaiser Index, manuscript collections, and some audio and visual materials. The Jewish Division of The New York Public Library has unparalleled holdings of Jewish newspapers from around the world, from which relevant articles can be derived. The libraries of the Jewish Theological Seminary and the VIVO Institute ,are also both fine sources. Their book holdings are up-to-date, and YIVO's clipping file is also, including such items as publicity releases from Mayors Koch and Dinkins. YIVO's archives have such important historical holdings as the American Jewish Committee Records (1930s to the 1970s), and some NAACP materials from the thirties and forties. Children's books on this top ic and ways of acquiring information are noted. A list of the major libraries, with addresses, telephone numbers, and hours is in an appendix.

The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is one of the eleven degree- granting institutions of the University System of Maryland (USM). UMUC plays a unique role among academic institutions in the State of Maryland in that it serves a large distant student population, with the proportion of students studying online approaching 50 percent of enrollments. Information and Library Services (ILS) at UMUC conducted a needs assessment survey to examine trends in student use of library resources, services, and instruction in order to understand how student usage patterns, needs, and preferences have changed as well as stayed the same. One important element of the survey was to obtain in-depth information on student usage patterns for electronic resources and services because (1) the library has increased delivery of these types of resources and services in the five years leading up to the current (2001) study and (2) several studies suggest that students are relying more heavily on online resources, both proprietary databases and the “free” Web.1 Therefore, ILS was interested in determining whether the shift to more online delivery of classes, and the simultaneous shift observed in user behavior in libraries in general (i.e., relying more heavily on online resources), would also affect student usage patterns and dependence on the physical library and online resources at UMUC. The findings of the survey followed national trends and demonstrated that nontraditional, predominantly part-time students’ usage patterns have changed and now favor the use of electronic resources (the Internet, in particular) and also mirror trends observed in traditional student behavior toward libraries and library resources in many important respects.

Abstract:
The aims of the study are as follows: (a) What factors influence early marriage? b) What are the effects of early marriage on the rights of children? This is normative legal study, i.e., legal research that seeks to identify procedures, standards, or das sollen. This research was undertaken through library research in order to gather secondary data, including primary and secondary legal texts. Primary legal materials are binding legal documents, such as marriage and children's rights legislation. Comparatively, secondary legal materials are those that provide an explanation of the primary legal resources. The findings of the study indicate that marriages done below the legal age restriction are prevalent. Marriage demands psychological maturity, thus age restrictions are extremely crucial. Multiple factors, including environmental factors, health considerations, family parenting factors, and economic aspects, contribute to the occurrence of early marriage. Early marriage will have an effect on the non-fulfillment of statutory children's rights, such as the child's right not to be separated from his parents, the child's right to receive an appropriate education, and the child's right to obtain protection.

Abstract:
Letter recognition is the first stage in developing children’s reading skills. It is hence important to optimize the stimulus for letter recognition, either in terms of methods or media. One of the media helpful for improving children’s letter recognition is the alphabet book. The present study aims to depict the role of the alphabet book in improving preschool children's letter recognition. This qualitative library research garnered articles and books using two keywords: alphabet book and letter recognition. The data were collected using documentation and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s descriptive analysis. The result showed that Alphabet Book improved children’s letter recognition. Alphabet book could improve children’s ability to recognize letter shapes and sounds and write the letter. This improvement appears to be accounted for by the book’s various themes, attractive illustrations, and words representing each letter. The alphabet book is also interesting when used together with storytelling and play methods. Alphabet book also plays a role in improving children's learning interest and enriching their vocabulary.

Abstract:
Temporal orienting of attention operates by biasing the allocation of cognitive and motor resources in specific moments in time, resulting in the improved processing of information from expected compared with unexpected targets. Recent findings have shown that temporal orienting operates relatively early across development, suggesting that this attentional mechanism plays a core role for human cognition. However, the exact neurophysiological mechanisms allowing children to attune their attention over time are not well understood. In this study, we presented 8- to 12-year-old children with a temporal cueing task designed to test (1) whether anticipatory oscillatory dynamics predict children's behavioral performance on a trial-by-trial basis and (2) whether anticipatory oscillatory neural activity may be supported by cross-frequency phase–amplitude coupling as previously shown in adults. Crucially, we found that, similar to what has been reported in adults, children's ongoing beta rhythm was strongly coupled with their theta rhythm and that the strength of this coupling distinguished validly cued temporal intervals, relative to neutral cued trials. In addition, in long trials, there was an inverse correlation between oscillatory beta power and children's trial-by-trial reaction, consistent with oscillatory beta power reflecting better response preparation. These findings provide the first experimental evidence that temporal attention in children operates by exploiting oscillatory mechanism.

This study analyses the Philosophical Semiotics Analysis of the Song Lyrics of Anakkon Hi Do Hamoraon Di Au in Marparbue Do Lojami's Song Lyrics. The data collection technique in this research is library research, by recording all data related to the problem under study with various librarian documents, such as books, articles, and manuscripts published in newspapers, magazines, and the internet. This study shows how songs become a medium used to represent the cultural identity of a society. The community referred to in this study is the Toba Batak community. Batak Toba, one of the tribes in Indonesia, comes from the island of Sumatra, called North Sumatra. The socio-cultural system of the Toba Batak community plays an important role in creating a harmonious culture, especially in the continuity of children's education in the Toba Batak family. Generally, Toba Batak people everywhere have a philosophy of "anakkon hi do Cameroon di au". It means that my child is my treasure. Because most of the active roles of Toba Batak parents in sending their children to school seem so strong, they are willing to fight hard for their children's success.

Abstract:
Word identification, which is the retrieval of the linguistic constituents (phonological, semantic) of a word, plays a central role in children's reading development. This development includes the automatization of word decoding and the attainment of fluent reading levels, both essential for skilled reading with comprehension (Perfetti, 1992; Stanovich, 2000; Verhoeven & van Leeuwe, 2009). In learning to read, children first acquire elementary decoding skills, and then gradually apply these skills with greater accuracy and speed, leading to an increasingly automated process of that recognizes multiletter units (consonant clusters, syllables, and morphemes) and whole words (Ehri, 2005). Automatic word recognition enables the devotion of mental resources to the meaning of a text and thus allows readers to use reading as a tool for the acquisition of new information and knowledge (Perfetti, 1998; Stanovich, 2000).

Abstract:
Conventional library that only relies on human resources and resources information on paper or physical media cannot last much longer because of a very large information explosion. This is supported by the development and availability of global information infrastructure. Therefore the library must adjust to utilizing information technology in order to provide access to the widest possible information to users. Libraries must provide access to information based on digital media. The development of information technology plays a role in making the wider public access to information. Access to information is facilitated by providing a space / place to be creative for users, access to information, and sources of information needed by users. At present the function of the library has shifted from a quiet room to a meeting place for "creators" or "makers". The library becomes a meeting place (Maker Place or Maker Space) that provides easy access to information and information sources. With the makerspace, the library is no longer just a quiet space, but rather a space of expression and open for the development of creativity and problem solving that produces the product of creativity itself. Makerspace is the right choice for solution in realizing sustainable development goals. That is because the library is able to open access to information to the community, help individuals and the community to develop skills and confidence, and help improve social networking. with the ultimate goal of creating an intelligent and prosperous society for the people of Indonesia.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTLibraries have an important role in the field of education, for research purposes, preservation of information resources and recreation areas. Libraries also have a role in increasing the intelligence and empowerment of the nation, as a human person who always wants to advance and the development of institutions that are increasingly experiencing intense competition. This study seeks to see the role of the library in improving the quality of elementary schools at SDIT Salsabila 2 Klaseman, both with regard to student achievement and the progress of the institution. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative, data collection is done by looking directly at the object of research (direct observation) interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that libraries have an important role in improving the quality of elementary schools such as the development of library facilities; there is a special room, a growing collection of books, modern service systems, air-conditioned room facilities, computers and LCD projectors are available and also supports children's achievements in winning several championships including in the PAI quiz competition and the MIPA OlympiadKeywords: Quality Improvement of Elementary Schools: The Role of Libraries

Abstract:
The perspectives investigated by Physics/Science Teaching researchers in the context of youth and adults are diverse. They research on innovations in the classroom, new technologies, experimental activities, evaluation, among others subjects. In the children context, Physics/Sciences teaching is poorly explored. This article discusses the results of a bibliographical research on this theme, whose main objective was to gather theoretical and methodological subsidies for the teaching practice in this context. The data sources used were articles, dissertations and theses available in the Capes/ MEC Journal Portal, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Bank of Theses and Dissertations and Theses and Dissertations Digital Library (BDTD), as well as papers published and presented at the National Symposium on Physics Teaching (SNEF) and Meeting on Physics Teaching Research (EPEF) among years 2000 and 2017. In this context, the sources were grouped and analyzed from the following categories: level of education, with the possibility of insertion of Physics/Science teaching from the age of 3, in the context of both formal and non-formal education, as long as the scientific activities are appropriate to the children's age group and whose main objective is to motivate their interest in scientific contents; content covered, with works on the various Physics themes, with predominance of Mechanics, Fluids and Astronomy; and methodology, didactic resources and theoretical foundation, where we highlight the occurrence of experimental and ludic activities based predominantly on Piaget, Vygotsky and Ausubel theories. Thus, from this article, the reader will contemplate a general overview about the possibilities and potentialities for the insertion of Physics/Science teaching in children's context, in order to make possible the interest for Science, as well as scientific literacy.

Abstract:
BackgroundUnintentional injuries among 0- to 4-year-olds are a major public health problem incurring substantial NHS, individual and societal costs. However, evidence on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of preventative interventions is lacking.AimTo increase the evidence base for thermal injury, falls and poisoning prevention for the under-fives.MethodsSix work streams comprising five multicentre case–control studies assessing risk and protective factors, a study measuring quality of life and injury costs, national surveys of children’s centres, interviews with children’s centre staff and parents, a systematic review of barriers to, and facilitators of, prevention and systematic overviews, meta-analyses and decision analyses of home safety interventions. Evidence from these studies informed the design of an injury prevention briefing (IPB) for children’s centres for preventing fire-related injuries and implementation support (training and facilitation). This was evaluated by a three-arm cluster randomised controlled trial comparing IPB and support (IPB+), IPB only (no support) and usual care. The primary outcome was parent-reported possession of a fire escape plan. Evidence from all work streams subsequently informed the design of an IPB for preventing thermal injuries, falls and poisoning.ResultsModifiable risk factors for falls, poisoning and scalds were found. Most injured children and their families incurred small to moderate health-care and non-health-care costs, with a few incurring more substantial costs. Meta-analyses and decision analyses found that home safety interventions increased the use of smoke alarms and stair gates, promoted safe hot tap water temperatures, fire escape planning and storage of medicines and household products, and reduced baby walker use. Generally, more intensive interventions were the most effective, but these were not always the most cost-effective interventions. Children’s centre and parental barriers to, and facilitators of, injury prevention were identified. Children’s centres were interested in preventing injuries, and believed that they could prevent them, but few had an evidence-based strategic approach and they needed support to develop this. The IPB was implemented by children’s centres in both intervention arms, with greater implementation in the IPB+ arm. Compared with usual care, more IPB+ arm families received advice on key safety messages, and more families in each intervention arm attended fire safety sessions. The intervention did not increase the prevalence of fire escape plans [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) IPB only vs. usual care 0.93, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.58 to 1.49; AOR IPB+ vs. usual care 1.41, 95% CI 0.91 to 2.20] but did increase the proportion of families reporting more fire escape behaviours (AOR IPB only vs. usual care 2.56, 95% CI 1.38 to 4.76; AOR IPB+ vs. usual care 1.78, 95% CI 1.01 to 3.15). IPB-only families were less likely to report match play by children (AOR 0.27, 95% CI 0.08 to 0.94) and reported more bedtime fire safety routines (AOR for a 1-unit increase in the number of routines 1.59, 95% CI 1.09 to 2.31) than usual-care families. The IPB-only intervention was less costly and marginally more effective than usual care. The IPB+ intervention was more costly and marginally more effective than usual care.LimitationsOur case–control studies demonstrate associations between modifiable risk factors and injuries but not causality. Some injury cost estimates are imprecise because of small numbers. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were limited by the quality of the included studies, the small numbers of studies reporting outcomes and significant heterogeneity, partly explained by differences in interventions. Network meta-analysis (NMA) categorised interventions more finely, but some variation remained. Decision analyses are likely to underestimate cost-effectiveness for a number of reasons. IPB implementation varied between children’s centres. Greater implementation may have resulted in changes in more fire safety behaviours.ConclusionsOur studies provide new evidence about the effectiveness of, as well as economic evaluation of, home safety interventions. Evidence-based resources for preventing thermal injuries, falls and scalds were developed. Providing such resources to children’s centres increases their injury prevention activity and some parental safety behaviours.Future workFurther randomised controlled trials, meta-analyses and NMAs are needed to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of home safety interventions. Further work is required to measure NHS, family and societal costs and utility decrements for childhood home injuries and to evaluate complex multicomponent interventions such as home safety schemes using a single analytical model.Trial registrationCurrent Controlled Trials ISRCTN65067450 and ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01452191.FundingThe National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Programme Grants for Applied Research programme and will be published in full inProgramme Grants for Applied Research; Vol. 5, No. 14. Abstract:
This study investigates children information search behaviour to inform about their search characteristics. The study uses a qualitative approach by observing and noting the children’s searching process. A total of 30 children aged 7-9 years participated in this study. The unobtrusively observation sessions were video-recorded on children's searching process via the Web. Probing interviews were used to gather understanding on how the children perceive information trustworthiness. The data was analysed using thematic coding approach. The finding highlighted two main characteristics of children search: Credible Searcher and Convenience Searcher. The children in general could gauge information trustworthiness and have confidence with regard to the relevance, reliability and the credibility of the resources. The children do not consider source reputation and currency as an important criterion when seeking information. This study contributes to a better understanding of information trustworthiness as reflected in young children’s information seeking processing.
