Abstract:
The article is devoted to the history of Siberian regional children's book publishing. The author has collected theoretic-practical opinions of historians, bibliologists, publishers and booksellers, librarians and bibliographers, psychologists and sociologists, which purpose is to generalize and reveal regularities of books' flow for children. V. G. Belinsky, L. N. Tolstoy, F. G. Tol’, N. V. Chekhov developed the first concepts of children's book. N. K. Krupskaya, V. A. Sukhomlinsky studied the «core» of the children book repertoire. V. G. Sopikov, B. S. Bondarsky reviewed children's literature of the 19th century in their bibliographic works. The author allocated some organizational components using formal-logical, comparative-historical and structural-typological methods. The first block is related to studying such definitions as «children's book», «children's literature», «editions for children», «a circle of childhood reading», «the repertoire of children's books», their typological signs. The presented concepts are investigated according to tasks, which children's editions solve. S. G. Antonova and S. A. Karaichentseva touched issues of children's literature typology in their publications. The second block of literature reveals the children's book development in Russia in various periods of its formation. I. E. Barenbaum, A. A. Grechikhin, A. A. Belovitskaya studied general fundamentals of the book's history, while A. Ivich, L. Kohn, I. Lupanova considered the history of children’s books. The third block is devoted to printing and art features of the children's book design, activity of universal and specialized publishing houses to distribute literature for children. The fourth block explains such category as «reader - library», considers techniques of work with children's book, offers methodical recommendations for teachers and tutors. Readers’ activity is examined as well. The author analyzes interests, factors, incentives and aims influencing childhood reading. Dissertation researches disclose the regional specifics of children's book publishing in 1980-2013, confirm the considered subject relevance. The historical, comparative, formal and logical analysis carried out by the author will be useful both the specialists in publishing and editorial affairs, researchers studying the history and development of the children's book, historians, and teachers in the educational process of such courses as «Publishing and Editing», «Children's Literature», «Book Science». The author concludes that the children's book has been studied in different periods of its development in the context of numerous aspects, directions and components, which makes it possible to reveal the special patterns of its existence.

Abstract:
Letter recognition is the first stage in developing children’s reading skills. It is hence important to optimize the stimulus for letter recognition, either in terms of methods or media. One of the media helpful for improving children’s letter recognition is the alphabet book. The present study aims to depict the role of the alphabet book in improving preschool children's letter recognition. This qualitative library research garnered articles and books using two keywords: alphabet book and letter recognition. The data were collected using documentation and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s descriptive analysis. The result showed that Alphabet Book improved children’s letter recognition. Alphabet book could improve children’s ability to recognize letter shapes and sounds and write the letter. This improvement appears to be accounted for by the book’s various themes, attractive illustrations, and words representing each letter. The alphabet book is also interesting when used together with storytelling and play methods. Alphabet book also plays a role in improving children's learning interest and enriching their vocabulary.

Abstract:
Abstract. Academics are encouraged to integrate scientific research with the public, but methods of doing so are often transient and insubstantial. Students and future scientists also require training and exposure to the importance of public outreach and science communication within STEM fields. Here, I describe two projects that provide a template for using children's books as an efficient and impactful means of science communication. The first part describes an international research project that culminates in the writing, illustration, and distribution of a children's book. Farzana’s Journey is a children's book based on multidisciplinary research on the pairing of the physical and human systems in coastal Bangladesh. Written, illustrated, and freely distributed in the Bengali language, the book is a place-based tool to teach rural Bangladesh communities about the natural world and our scientific findings. Through the development and distribution of the book, we encouraged collaboration and public outreach with scientists, artists, and students concerned with enhancing educational and social opportunities in rural communities. We also ensure a physical tie to the community after the project's culmination. The book sparks children’s curiosity in the local environment while also demonstrating a means for sustainable educational outreach with impoverished, remote communities. The second part of the paper provides an overview of how this type of science communication can be taught to early-career scientists. Students in an intensive learning undergraduate course produce children's books about a scientific concept or process. I describe the curricular context and layout of the course, the assessment of deliverables, and the impacts of the science storytelling process as a model for teaching communication literacy. Together, these efforts demonstrate the potential impact of children's books on science communication efforts among students, early-career scientists, and local communities.

Abstract:
With the development of society and the improvement of material conditions for Chinese people's lives in the 21st century, parents are increasingly willing to invest more money in books to educate their children. Consequently, the children's book market in China is becoming more and more prosperous. As an essential component of China’s publishing industry, the children's book publishing sector is very competitive. However, many problems have emerged behind the boom. This research aims to investigate various challenges amidst this growth by analyzing existing literature and comparing data. It is found that there are three significant problems, including the circulation of books that are not conducive to children’s physical and mental development, publishers engaging in repetitive behaviors solely for profitability, and parents’ excessive concern about education leading them to overly scrutinize seemingly innocuous books. This research also aims to offer targeted suggestions for addressing these problems.

Abstract:
In Malaysia, the development of information and communication technology (ICT) has created an impact on children’s book in the publishing world. Subsequent to this development, local book publishers were challenged to produce reading material in interactive digital form for children. Recognizing the importance of ICT and the benefit brought to the society, the government has implemented both the National Creative Industry Policy (DIKN) and the Malaysian Education Development Plan (2013-2025). Under this policy, players in the broadcasting and publishing industry in Malaysia were encouraged to develop the country's creative industry in order to raise the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, how prepared are players in the bookkeeping industry to produce interactive digital books for children? This is because the number of publications until 2017 is still small. This article will analyze the publishing status of children's digital books produced by the local publishers. Additionally, this article aims to investigate the readiness of publishers to publish interactive digital books for children in Malaysia. The method used in this study is through the analysis of children’s book titles in digital format from the website. In addition, the study also interviewed the management of the publishing house. Results showed Malaysian book publishers sought to bring the organization's direction towards the publication of interactive digital books. However, a few were found to be reluctant to change. In conclusion, Malaysian publishers will do well with the support of all parties in order to strive for the publication of children's interactive digital books via the online platform.

Abstract:
Augmented Reality (AR) books show potential to increase young learners’ reading motivation, which is important given children's declining reading motivation over the school years. Previous studies measured reading motivation only in higher education and only after users’ experience with AR. Few empirical studies have focused on school-aged children and those examined attitudes, not motivation. This study aimed to: a) examine how young children's motivation changes through the experience of reading AR books and b) document their attitudes and behaviors after this experience. Participants in this pre-test post-test case study were 40 fourth and fifth graders. Data sources included validated questionnaires and an observation protocol of children’s behavior while interacting with AR books. The results of paired samples t-tests for children's motivation indicated a statistically significant increase in attention (t (39) = - 3.07, p = 0.004), confidence (t (39) = - 2.44, p = 0.019) and satisfaction (t (39) = - 3.26, p = 0.002). Children read comfortably, seemed focused, and were eager to read more. They showed a high level of enthusiasm with AR technology when interacting with the first AR book, which notably decreased with the second book. The children maintained positive attitudes and behaviors towards AR. The study showed that even through short-term interactions, AR books have the potential to increase young students’ reading motivation. It adds to our knowledge concerning the use of AR books by primary school children, who are under-represented in the literature. Directions for future research are drawn.

Abstract:
Environmental catastrophe is one of the biggest problems of the current century. As one of the living things on the planet, humans must start to understand the environmental problems in their immediate surroundings. To increase the future generation's understanding of the current situation of the environment, children must receive a high-quality education. This study highlights how children’s exposure to green literature can help them become more aware of their surroundings. This study uses a qualitative research approach based on an interpretative model. In this investigation, several children's books are utilized as the study's subject material to demonstrate that young readers' literature may be a very effective instrument for fostering environmental awareness. Picture books are the type of children's books used in this study. These books are The Secret Garden and The Giving Tree. An ecocriticism analysis has been used in children's picture books to illustrate how to raise children’s environmental consciousness. This study reveals that the authors truly have demonstrated their enthusiasm for promoting environmental awareness and they illustrated the interconnectedness of nature and humanity. In conclusion, it is hoped that this study will boost children’s desire to safeguard, conserve, and care for the environment soon.

Abstract:
Purpose: It was intended to measure the sound intensity of children's sound books and to compare them with the standards of Korea and the International Standards Organization (ISO).Methods: The loudness of 15 children’s sound books was measured at a distance of 25 cm (child’s arm length), and 2.5 cm length of external auditory canal. Measurements taken three times with each book were performed, and the overall sound intensity of the sound books and the sound intensity of each button were measured and compared. Results: Compared with the Korean standard, all the buttons of all books exceeded the standard for the sound volume of the children’s book measured at a distance of 2.5 cm. When comparing the maximum sound intensity measured at a distance of 25 cm with 85 LAmax, a total of 168 buttons of these, 25 (14.88%) were recorded as exceeding the maximum loudness. According to the standards of the ISO, all buttons in all books were below the standard 85 LAeq.Conclusion: Several children’s books are loud enough to cause noise-induced hearing loss, especially when they are placed close to the ear. Strict standards for sound children’s books are required, and it is important to put a warning on the cover of the book. It is expected that the sound intensity of the children’s sound book presented in this study can be referenced when referring to the loudness during hearing rehabilitation in children.

Abstract:
Abstract Latrophobia, defined as the morbid and irrational fear of doctors or hospitals, makes medical or hospital visits extremely challenging for those who suffer from it. For many people, the cause of Latrophobia or its milder forms, including dislike and anxiety, is often rooted in childhood. Therefore, a large number of children's books deal with and illustrate the topic of a “doctor’s visit”, in order to reduce the anxiety through pedagogical methods combined in the narrative. The aim of the study is to investigate the extent to which selected children's books highlight latrophobia and try to reduce it by educational means. One focus is an analysis and an evaluation of the individual works combined with a comparison of the different methods of individual books. The main aim is to prove that children’s books can have the capability to reduce latrophobia. Materials and methods. The research examines 10 international children’s books dealing with doctor (dental) visits. A field test covering 63 children (21 with potential latrophobia) provides information for pedagogical values within these books. Furthermore, a subjective assessment combined with the ongoing survey filters (un)valuable methods and approaches. Results. More than half of the 21 children showed improved results concerning their feeling of being afraid before and after reading the book(s). Nevertheless, the assessment of the books showed that there are strong differences concerning the approach of “anxiety”. The methods used in the stories to reduce anxiety are numerous, debatable (in terms of success), and even frightening (from the perspective of child readers). The pictures and the atmosphere of the story can be pointed out as major factors for pedagogically valuable content. Conclusions. Although a major part of the examined books leveraged to reduce latrophobia, there are also some books which showed no or even worse effect. Due to the depicted representations of anxiety in the books, a counterproductive effect cannot be ruled out. Children's books, which should have a pedagogically positive effect of latrophobia minimization, must be compulsorily examined in advance by parents.

Abstract:
In this article we present the cross-disciplinary methodology of a project on Danish children's literature 1790–1850 that has the child as the point of departure. The project focuses on three contexts in which children and adults interact with books: the home, the school and the book market. Theoretical inspirations have been drawn from book history, children's literature studies and childhood studies, including the concept of agency. A major database maps Danish books aimed at children 1750–1850, making it possible to trace the popularity of titles through reprints and new editions and to follow specific actors (authors, illustrators, printers and so on). Ego-documents by children – for example, letters written by Ida Thiele (1830–1862) – are analysed as sources of information on children's own experiences with books, their use of different media and their interaction with peers, relatives and teachers in relation to reading and books. Finally, we demonstrate how significant changes in form, content and the materiality of books for children can be captured, when following specific books such as E. Munthe's books on history and geography around the communication circuit. The article concludes that a combination of different cross-disciplinary methodologies is essential in a history of children's literature with children at its centre.

Abstract:
The study of children's marginalia in manuscripts and printed books enables us to reassess traditional assumptions about bibliography, subjectivity, and the literary imagination in the English and American traditions. Commentaries, signatures, and scribbling defacements—together with fictional representations of young people writing in books—illustrate relationships among canonical authority, playful subversion, commodity value, and archival preservation that all contribute to (and may critique) our current fascination with book history as a discipline.

Abstract:
Books with Jewish content are of universal interest and are important to individuals and to society. Through humor and personal experiences in writing and speaking about my Ike and Mama series, my middlegrade young-adult books, as well as my picture book, God Must Like Cookies, Too, I communicate to publishers, authors, and librarians the ways that my books have crossed over to the general marketplace. Why and how this came to be, and the newfound inclusion and interest of Jewish writers in the "multicultural" designation are also examined.

Abstract:
Picture books have been a staple in children's literature for centuries, with the earliest known examples dating back to the 15th century. These books are designed to engage young readers through a combination of words and pictures, to develop literacy skills and promote cognitive development. Picture books are an important tool for teaching young children new words and concepts as well as providing them with education. Numerous studies have investigated the effects that reading aloud together has on the relationships that develop between parents and children. A brand-new line of research has recently been initiated to investigate the qualities of children's picture books that encourage learning and the application of that education in the wider world. Children's symbolic development, analogical reasoning, and thinking that is rooted in fantasy may impede their ability to retrieve information from picture books, according to the findings of the research presented here. After that, we take a look at the developing corpus of research on the effect of picture book characteristics on children's learning and transfer of scientific concepts, problem-solving skills, morals, and words and letters from picture books. In each area of learning, we investigate how the development of children might interact with the qualities of books in order to influence their acquisition of knowledge. We come to the conclusion that the ability of children to learn and transfer knowledge from picture books can be hampered by certain book qualities, and that future research should examine the interplay between the developing capacities of children and the characteristics of books and how they affect their learning.

Abstract:
Abstract: Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo carefully negotiates between what is expected of comic books and what is expected of literary children's novels, resulting in a book that borrows from and signals both traditions. As a result, Flora & Ulysses challenges the different values traditionally assigned to comic books and literary children's books, but without ever becoming too radical. In this article, analysis of this text and its archival materials held in the Kerlan Collection demonstrates how the book pushes for a wider acceptance of comics formatting as valuable literature, while also exemplifying the value systems still in place.

Abstract:
Purpose: The objective of this research is to enhance children's enthusiasm for reading and improve their literacy abilities by introducing innovative forms of children's literacy media, such as picture books. The researchers created a visual publication specifically designed for sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Pandeyan. The purpose of this book is to inspire and engage youngsters, ultimately fostering a greater enthusiasm for reading and addressing the issue of early literacy challenges. Method: The research employed a qualitative methodology. The activity is structured into three distinct stages: (1) preparation, involving observations and interviews; (2) implementation, which includes creating picture books, promoting children's literature and picture books, and engaging in group reading sessions; and (3) evaluation, which entails self-reflection and assessing the performance of the service program. Practical Applications: Seventeen grade VI children at SD Negeri 2 Pandeyan strongly valued picture books as a form of non-academic reading. Schools should maintain children's literature, particularly picture books, by offering non-academic reading resources to foster a greater interest in reading. Conclusion: Therefore, the specific early literacy crisis in Pandeyan Village can be mitigated. It is crucial to foster children's interest in reading at a young age in order to cultivate their literacy skills, which will then be sustained throughout their adult lives.
