Full textThere is a wide debate on the remote Andes cultural influences and the appearance of ceramics in these contexts. Our study does not intend to go back to Formative periods, but only to retrieve the collection of Chimu pottery MAE / USP with respect to the current debate regarding the relative continuity or discontinuity in Peru\'s northern coast, through the study of ceramic production technology. The technological system that characterizes this production usually appears in the literature with emphasis on the characteristics of molding and the vast production and ceramic artifacts from this period is rarely studied from its technological variability. This study aims to see the future technological differences that may exist behind this message of unity and homogeneity, explicit in Chimu ceramics, and inquiring into the meaning of technology choices that characterize this process. The choice of a collection of whole pieces of a ceramic style monochrome, probably collected at random and lacking in contextual information imposed the need to devise a methodology for the investigation of different technology choices. The combination of macroscopic analysis of morphological and iconographic, with the systematic investigation by physico-chemical techniques non destructive has allowed the depth knowledge of technology and the particularities of the production of the artifacts, to provide data that were fundamental to infer cultural aspects of technology choices associated with this collection.

Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) are often used to enhance system performance, especially when a General Purpose Processor (GPP) is too inefficient or ill suited to perform a specialized task. However, the time and hardware costs inherent in the development and implementation of such a solution can be quite expensive. The use of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to implement a Reconfigurable Processor (RP) can help alleviate some of the overhead encountered with ASIC development. The RP is a dynamic processing node that can be configured in-circuit to compute any realizable function at run-time. After the function has finished execution, the RP can be reconfigured to compute a different function. This concept is illustrated with the reconfigurable, multimedia Chidi Processing System. A network of Chidi boards, each with a closely coupled GPP and RP, is used to execute a sequence of multimedia related functions. One of the main issues in utilizing a RP efficiently is the ability to provide it with data effectively. The design and implementation of a data servicing subsystem for the Chidi Reconfigurable Processor, in an effort to increase system performance, is the main focus of study. This research is supported by the Digital Life Consortium at the MIT Media Laboratory.

The Chidi reconfigurable media processor requires a low-cost, scalable data link for media and sensor I/O. This paper describes a 1394 Serial Bus interface for the Chidi processor, which allows for routing of data between network nodes and supports capture of DV camera output. The scope of the research covers design and implementation from the 1394 software drivers down to the physical layer. Off-the-shelf chips are used to implement the 1394 physical and link layers. Logic implemented on a Field Programmable Gate Array facilitates transfer of data from Chidi's general purpose processor and system memory to the link layer and vice versa. Abstract Lots of potential factors induce landslides due to steep terrain, particular geology, heavy rainfall and the frequently earthquakes in Mt. Chiu-chiu. Large landslides occurred after the Chi-chi earthquake and it caused serious soil disaster by large number of soil. The research emphasized the characteristics of landslides, and it included: (1)the estimation of the volume and the depth of landslide, (2)the Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR) of landslides, (3)the trend of the profile of landslides. This study made DTM of watershed of Dry-Stream using topographical base maps with 1/5000 provided from Agricultural and Forestry Aerial Survey Institute and delineated automatically the sub-watersheds and analyzed with 5m*5m grid information by using GIS. It calculated the volume of landslides and corrected the lifting of stratum. First, the study estimated that the average depth of landslide for the whole sub-watersheds and the area of landslides was 1.74 meters and 2.7 meters in watershed of Dry-Stream and illustrated that about 29.68% and 70.32% of area is respectively deep and shallow landslides with digital picture. Furthermore, the estimate of average depth of deep landslides was 8.16 meters. Second, it analyzed that the soil produced from landslides of slope transport to the Dry-Stream with the conception of SDR. The relation of regression between SDR and the area is yielded as: Y = -15.208 * ln(X) + 17.051 Y : SDR(%) X : area(km2) Finally, we selected four slopes of watersheds and extracted the information of the profile of geography from the DTM. The angle of reach is applied to describe the behavior of run-out of landslides and we figured out that the movement of landslide mass was mixed mode and the chage of angle was from 1.19゜to 2.73゜. Additionally, the shape of slope for the shallow landslides after the earthquake is trending to that before the earthquake and the shape for the deep landslides is transferred from convex slope to concave one.

The ecosystem services provided by the wetland have an inseparable relationship with human society and it would be difficult to restore to its initial status if it had been destroyed. This study evaluates recreational value of the Tainan Chiku Wetland. The research adopted in-person survey and the population of the sample is Taiwan residents over 20 years old. Moreover, I use the travel cost method to assess the recreational value of the wetland and to evaluate the value of environment quality improvement through the contingent behavior method. As for the empirical model, I use three different econometric models to estimate the recreational demand function, including Poisson regression model, Negative Binomial regression model, Generalized Possion and Tobit regression model. Furthermore, I estimate two different tourism demand functions separately for overnight and day-trip travelers. I find that overnight travelers are quite different from day-tripers. Thus, I only study the behavior of day-trip travelers. This study finally use Generalized Possion regression model to show results, the recreational benefit per person per year of the Tainan Chiku Wetland is 437.05NTD. With the improvement of the environmental quality, the benefit per person per year increases 263.39NTD. For the whole country, recreational benefit per year of the Tainan ChiKu Wetland is 4.11 hundred million NTD. It will increase to 1.24 hundred million NTD per year with the environmental quality improvement.

Annie Pomero, a fictitious name, is the main character in this series of works. Annie is sometimes female but sometimes male. She/he always looks forward silently with no emotion. It seems quiet but it tends to extreme riot and bursting language which likely unleash from the pictures through the color and the atmosphere of the pictures. However, it’s easy to be interpreted as it is protesting for somewhat events by the gray skin and flame-red hair. People always orient themselves with stereotype which is based on their growing background or society. For the painter, the real objects come with some unrealistic feeling, but the unreality strongly makes people believe what isn’t true in a silent but drastic way. The fictitious character, Annie, represents everyone’s id. Sometimes, people’s instincts and behaviors are limited by morality or social rules. But, they feel satisfies with their actions and behaviors which are fettered. Whether we discover this phenomenon or not, we can’t deny that most people pretend that they don’t aware of it. And that’s why the phenomena” aphasia” exist. Mentally, our Annies still maintain the id and original feeling for us carefully. Criticizing the absurdity in the real society through the fictions, although these fictitious characters accuse of different items, obtaining freedom and being released are their common goals. Inside of mind, there is always one part that isn’t able to be shared or communicated by anyone, and talking to selves becomes the surface of self-comforting. Sadly, this is the common problem of all human. This theory is divided into some chapters: (1) Introduction (2) The foundation & comparing of relative artists (3) The ideas of creation (4) The formation of personal style (5) Analysis and discussion of the content (6) Exposition and conclusion

Due to the low price of salt in the international market, Taiwan’s salt industry has been shrinking since 1980s. As a result, Taiwan Salt Company (now TAIYEN Biotech) shut down its salt plant in Chiku in 2002, leading to the end of 338 years of Taiwan’s salt industry. Since 1990s, Chiku Yanshan has begun its transformation by combining cultural creativity. It is now a famous tourist attraction in Taiwan. This study is focused on "Chiku Yanshan" as its research subject. The questionnaire was designed through the application of Morrison’s 8P marketing strategy theory and interviews with the business owner, intended to help understand the operation of this attraction. SPSS software was later used to analyze the data obtained from surveyed questionnaires. The research findings show the following: First, visitors are extremely satisfied with the promotion, people, partnership, and programming of Chiku Yanshan. Secondly, visitors’ satisfaction level with the product, price, place, and packaging of Chiku Yanshan is not as high as that with the four aforementioned items. Finally, each of visitors’ gender, age, occupation, place of residence, income, education, number of visits, source of information, transportation, and recommendation shows no obvious difference on their satisfaction level with the price, promotion, and programming of Chiku Yanshan. But, for the other five strategies, some ones will make a significant difference.

San Liou Chiou Tabloid began publication during Japanese colonial rule. From 1930 to 1935, there were 479 numbers of its publication. The topics and forms of the understandable and humorous tabloid are multiple and diversified. With the methods of Literature Analysis and Content Investigation, the purpose of this thesis is to analyze its joke columns, then to observe the life style of the time and to display the artistic values and functions of these jokes. There are five chapters in total. The summaries of each chapter are as follows: Chapter One: Preface, the interpretation of the whole framework. Chapter Two: The analyse of its joke columns and classifications. Beginning with the probe into the origins of column names, the thesis explores the meaning of column arrangement further; afterward, explains the classifications and the images of the characters in jokes. Chapter Three: The jokes can reflect the social issues and folklores and the contents are so close to citizen culture that they can arouse people’s echo. Since jokes are about life, the social phenomenon at that time can be conceived after making a painstaking investigation of jokes. Chapter Four: The explanation of the artistic form and function of jokes. First, the multiple languages of this tabloid are researched, and then the thesis illustrates the particular language usages of the time. Besides the diverse languages, many skills are adopted to enhance the humor of jokes. The interesting contents can not only make people lighthearted, but deliver knowledge relaxingly: by observing the ugliness of others, people can make self-examination. Chapter Five: The summary of the former chapters and explication of author’s discovery and expectation about jokes. To sum up, the witty style of San Liou Chiou Tabloid was distinctive in Taiwan newspaper industry at that time. Piecing together the trifles in joke columns makes the daily life of the time comprehended. Furthermore, after peeling off joyful sugar coating of each joke, the inner cultural energies , in fact, are abundant, forming an unique kind of literature during Japanese colonial rule. It also starts a different writing level.

This study investigated rapid growth waves occurred in the coastal water off Chiku, Tainan by analyzing wave information obtained by a wave buoy operated by the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs. The rapid growth waves were defined as the waves whose significant wave height grew more than two times and attained at least 1.5 m in 6 hours of time. It was found that between July 2006 and December 2014, there were 258 incidents of rapid growth waves. The relationships between the meteorological conditions and the waves during the rapid growth period were also studied. It was found that between July 2006 and December 2014, there were 258 incidents of rapid growth waves and most of them occurred in the winter season followed by the fall season. The main weather system associated with the rapid growth waves was the arrival of cold continental high pressure. By analyzing the wave period in the rapid growth events, it was found that the wave period increased as the wave grew rapidly. During the rapid growth wave event, the wind was mostly from the north-north east and the wave from north-north west. It was also found that the angle between the wind and wave direction decreased to 30-40 degrees, indicating these waves are due to local wind. This study also investigated the relationship between the wave height and wind speed. The results indicated that the maximum wave height after the growth and the maximum wind speed in the event had a correlation coefficient of 0.80. This study further compared these events occurred in Chiku with those found near Liuchiu Island, Pingtung. The results showed that there were 36 rapid growth wave events occurred under the same weather system, mainly resulted from offshore typhoons or tropical depressions. It was also found that there were 86 incidents simultaneously occurred at Chiku and Penghu Islands. The majority of these events were the results of meteorological fronts accompanied by a cold continental high pressure.

Chiou Mo, who was born in 1910 in Kou-hu, Yun-lin, is a celebrated classical poet in Kou-hu region. During the period that Taiwan was governed by Japan, he instructed Chinese Studies in his private village school. In order to advocate poetics and encourage juniors, he used to found a “Shiang-li Poetry Club”, contribute a lot of poems in “Poetic Newspaper” and “Poems and Article”, and advocate Chinese poems. He tried his best to develop the studies of poetry. After the retrocession of Taiwan, he worked in an elementary school, making his efforts to primary education, and used his leisure to contribute traditional poet. Chiou Shuei-Mo had never stopped contributing poems all his life, so he had two thousand or more works. After retiring from elementary school, he went to Ju-Chi, Jia-Yi to collect his works to three books—“Chuen Yu Shiuan article collection”, “Chuen Yu Shiuan poetic collection” and “Jin Hu Jung rhyme”. The three books showed up his highly interest and perseverance. He was active in local poetry club before and after Taiwan was governed by Japan and had an important position in the circle of poets. His poems were enough to show the different features of different times in Taiwan. Chiou Shuei-Mo had a highly position and influence in modern poetic circle. He had ever been the leader of Yun-lin Poetic Association. His background and knowledge made him become an important poet in Yun-lin. He had a great influence in the poetry club, and he also liked to discuss with famous poets in other place. The main purpose of the research of this thesis is to present the partial features in Taiwan classical poetic circle before and after World War II, arrange the partial materials of Taiwan literature, and research the important role of Chiou Shuei-Mo in regional literature in Yun-lin. Finally, suggestions are provided to the future studies based on the result of this study.

Mangrove forests that support numerous ecosystem services distribute along ocean coastlines throughout the tropics. Mangroves have the capacity of carbon se-questration and are one of the most carbon-rich forests in tropical ecosystems. Quan-tifying mangrove carbon sequestration and carbon budget can make it clear to under-stand global carbon cycle and ecosystem services. This study was conducted from February 2013 to July 2014. There were 4 study sites set in the Chiku and Sihcao wetlands, Tainan. Four existing Tawan mangrove species Avicennia marina, Rhi-zophora stylosa, Lumnitzera racemosa, Kandelia obovate were investgated. We esti-mated the net production of mangrove using an allometric equation for calculation of carbon sequestration, and quantify the carbon budget of A. marina. The estimated carbon sequestration of K. obovate, R. stylosa, L. racemosa, A. marina was 66.76、42.91、19.16、12.64 Mg C ha-1 yr-1, respectively. The net production of A. marina was 27.95 Mg DW ha-1 yr-1,which was highter in summer. The ecosystem carbon seques-tration of A. marina was 2098.38 Mg C ha-1, 95% of which was stored in the soil. There was 5.84 ton organic carbon was exported to the riverwater per year, whcih was highter in summer. The estimated net ecosystem production of A. marina was 5.83 Mg C ha-1 yr-1, indicating mangroves were important carbon sinks in the Chiku wetland. Carbon isotopes technique was utilized to date the soil layer in A. marina forests. The estimated soil carbon accumulation rate was 0.51 Mg C ha-1 yr-1, which was lower than the global average. The estimated soil annual sediment accretion was 0.6 mm yr-1 in the Chiku wetland. Considering the rate of global sea level rise being 2 mm yr-1, we can expect the impact of sea level rise on the Chiku mangroves in response to climate change.

Abstract The thesis attempts to approach the life course and music of Chiou Chen, who is a composer and singer in Taiwan. Chiou composed and sang many beautiful campus folksongs, brought rock music into Taiwanese pop songs in 1980s, and put out the first album coverage music in Taiwan. Later, he devoted himself into the social movements, and composed the songs according to the situation of Taiwanese society. The discussion direction and basic content of the thesis’s sections are divided as follows: Chapter One describes the study’s motivation, objective, method, scope, and the structure. Chapter Two describes the growing, development and decliness of campus folksongs from 1975 to 1981. Chapter Three describes Chiou’s life course and how he composed his music works which were interacted with the influence of Taiwanese society. Chapter Four analysizes the style and categories of Chiou’s songs, describes his opinion on Taiwanese pop songs, and transfers his ideas about the music. Chapter Five summarizes the findings of the research.

Ecotourism is a concept that is getting more and more attention worldwide. Chiku wetland has many functions and values, and its cultivation, salt industries, special coastal features and ecological resources, all significantly contribute to Chiku’s ecotourism development. It is of great importance to consider the local economy, environment, ecology, and society as interacting parts in the patchy whole that is ecotourism. In order to do so, this study used the well established DSR (Driving forces-State-Response) framework to build a sustainable ecotourism indicator system for the Chiku wetland. The System Dynamics method was chosen to understand system structure with causal-loop diagrams and system behavior in the long term with a dynamic simulation model. Lack of observational data, was compensated by sensitivity analysis, and other model verification techniques. Finally, the Monte Carlo method was used to perform an exploratory multi-policy analysis. Its results were analyzed using decision tree analysis. It is hoped that these results can assist decision makers to plan management policies.
