Tarhini, Batoul. "Oriented paths in digraphs and the S-packing coloring of subcubic graph." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Bourgogne Franche-Comté, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023UBFCK079.
This PhD thesis is divided into two principal parts: Part I delves into the existenceof oriented paths in digraphs, aiming to establish a connection between a digraph'schromatic number and the existence of specific oriented paths within it as subdigraphs. Digraphs contained in any n-chromatic digraph are called n-universal. We consider two conjectures: Burr's conjecture, which states that every oriented tree of order n is (2n-2)-universal, and El Sahili's conjeture which states that every oriented path of order n is n-universal. For oriented paths in general, the best bound is given by Burr, that is every oriented path of order n is (n − 1)^2-universal. Our objective is to study the existence of an integer k such that any digraph with a chromatic number k, contains a copy of a given oriented path with three blocks as its subdigraph. To achieve our goals, we rely significantly on fundamental concepts, including, induction on the order of a given digraph, final forests, leveling techniques, and strategic digraph decomposition methods. A path P (k1, k2, k3) is an oriented path consisting of k1 forward arcs, followed by k2 backward arcs, and then by k3 forward arcs. For the path P(k,1,l), we have confirmed El Sahili's conjecture in Hamiltonian digraphs. More clearly, we have established the existence of any path P (k, 1, l) of order n in any n-chromatic Hamiltonian digraph. And depending on this result concerning Hamiltonian digraphs, we proved the correctness of El Sahili's conjecture on a more general class of digraphs which is digraphs containing a Hamiltonian directed path. We introduce a new technique which is represented by a decomposition of the digraph into subdigraphs defined by a series of successive operations applied to the digraph relying on the famous theorem of Roy which establishes the existence of a directed path of order n in any n-chromatic digraph. This technique has proven to be instrumental in establishing new linear bounds for the chromatic number of digraphs that lack an oriented path with three blocks. In deed, using this technique, we proved that the path P(k,1,l) satisfies Burr's conjecture. Moreover, for any path with three blocks, P(k,l,r) we establish a linear bound for the chromatic number which improves all the previously reached bounds. In Part II we study the problem of S-packing coloring in graphs. Given a non-decreasing sequence S = (s1, s2, . . . , sk) of positive integers, an S-packing coloring of a graph G is a partition of the vertex set of G into k subsets{V1, V2, . . . , Vk} such that for each 1 ≤ i ≤ k, the distance between any two dis-tinct vertices u and v in Vi is at least si + 1. Our focus is centered on an intriguing conjecture proposed by Brešar et al., which states that packing chromatic number of the subdivision of any subcubic graph is at most 5. Our desired aim is to provide a confirmation of this conjecture for specific classes of subcubic graphs, and to address the unresolved issues raised within this subject matter. An observation for Gastineau and Togni states that if a graph G is (1, 1, 2, 2)-packing colorable, then the chromatic number of its subdivision graph S(G) is at most 5, and hence it satisfies the conjecture. Depending on this observation, and in order to prove the correctness of the conjecture for the class of cubic Halin graphs, we studied its S-packing coloring aiming to prove that it admits a (1, 1, 2, 2)- packing coloring. We proved that a cubic Halin graph is (1, 1, 2, 3)-packing colorable, then it is (1, 1, 2, 2)-packing colorable, and so we confirm the conjecture for this class. Moreover, Gastineau and Togni, after proving that every subcubic graph is (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2)-packing colorbale, have posed an open problem on whether every subcubic graph is (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2)-packing colorable. We answer this question in affirmative in the particular class we worked on; we proved that cubic Halin graphs are (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2)-packing colorable

Modern multimedia (MM) communication systems aim to provide new services such as multicast (MC) communication. But the rising of new very different MM capable devices and the growing number of clients drive to new requirements for mechanisms and protocols. In a MM communication, there are some flows that have constraints different from others and the required QoS for each flow is not the same. Furthermore, in MC communications, all the users do not want or are not able to receive the same QoS. These constraints imply that new communication mechanisms have to take into account the user requirements in order to provide an ad hoc service to each user and to avoid wasting the network resources. This dissertation proposes a new differentiated QoS multicast architecture, based on client/server proxies, called M-FPTP, which relays many MC LANs by single partially reliable links. This architecture provides a different QoS to each LAN depending on the users requirements. For doing so, it is also provided a network model called Hierarchized Graph (HG) which represents at the same time the network performances and the users QoS constraints. Nevertheless, the application of standard tree creation methods on an HG can lead to source overloading problems. It is then proposed a new algorithm called Degree-Bounded Shortest-Path-Tree (DgB-SPT) which solves this problem. However, the deployment of such a service needs a new protocol in order to collect users requirements and correctly deploy the proxies. This protocol is called Simple Session Protocol for QoS MC (SSP-QoM). The proposed solutions have been modeled, verified, validated and tested by using UML 2. 0 and TAU G2 CASE tool

Reaching the East : this is undoubtedly one of the obsessions of the West. Maybe Alexander the Great's conquests contributed to forge this quasi-mystical aim. Wherever it comes from, the XIXth century is the one of its rationalization. Inventions such as steam locomotive and steamship allow to begin a global networking process. On five continents, villages, cities and ports, are progressively interconnected, generating a globalization of human and trade flows. This movement is orchestrated by the major European powers, whose expansion is based on the conquest of new markets and on the importation of natural resources required for their development. London and Mumbay play at that time a pivotal role, allowing to reroute flows in circulation at the inter-continental scale. Between these two major cities, Suez is an unavoidable crossing point between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. During the second half of the XIXth century, the Balkan space is progressively integrated to this world-system. In that region, the introduction of railway induces a radical restructuring of power relations, whether political, economical or military. For this reason, the establishment of railways in the Balkans results from an interlacing of influencing strategies, articulated at various scales. This thesis sets out to highlight them
Ciucanu, Radu. "Cross-model queries and schemas : complexity and learning." Thesis, Lille 1, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015LIL10056/document.
Specifying a database query using a formal query language is typically a challenging task for non-expert users. In the context of big data, this problem becomes even harder because it requires the users to deal with database instances of large size and hence difficult to visualize. Such instances usually lack a schema to help the users specify their queries, or have an incomplete schema as they come from disparate data sources. In this thesis, we address the problem of query specification for non-expert users. We identify two possible approaches for tackling this problem: learning queries from examples and translating the data in a format that the user finds easier to query. Our contributions are aligned with these two complementary directions and span over three of the most popular data models: XML, relational, and graph. This thesis consists of two parts, dedicated to (i) schema definition and translation, and to (ii) learning schemas and queries. In the first part, we define schema formalisms for unordered XML and we analyze their computational properties; we also study the complexity of the data exchange problem in the setting of a relational source and a graph target database. In the second part, we investigate the problem of learning from examples the schemas for unordered XML proposed in the first part, as well as relational join queries and path queries on graph databases. The interactive scenario that we propose for these two classes of queries is immediately applicable to assisting non-expert users in the process of query specification
Chu, Fangfang. "Dumbbell-shaped colloids." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät, 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/17062.
In the present work the phase behaviour of hard dumbbells has been explored as a function of aspect ratio (L*, the center to center distance to the diameter of one composed sphere) and volume fractions using thermosensitive dumbbell-shaped microgels as the hard dumbbell model system. A fluid-to-plastic crystal phase transition indicated by Bragg reflections has been observed for L* < 0.4. The experimental phase diagrams at L* ~ 0.24 and L* ~ 0.30 are comparable to the theoretical prediction of the Monte Carlo simulations. Rheological measurements reveal that the hard dumbbells in the biphasic gap show the yielding behaviour with a single yielding event, while two yielding events have been observed for the plastic crystalline phase. The two yielding events, referred to as the double yielding behaviour, are proved to be related to the crystallization of hard dumbbells. The underlying structural evolution has been investigated by rheo-SANS experiments and the scattering data has been interpreted by BD simulations. It is demonstrated that the plastic crystal structure of the hard dumbbells is polycrystalline at rest, which has been induced into the twinned fcc structure at low strain, the partially oriented sliding layers at high strain and the intermediate state at the strain in-between. The shear-induced structural evolution corresponds to the double yielding events of the fully crystallized hard dumbbells. Additionally, we prove that the increase of L* (L* < 0.4) does not change the structural evolution of the sheared hard dumbbells. Only more extensive or longer oscillations are required to form the shear-induced crystal structures due to the slowdown of the dynamics in the vicinity of the glass transition. In a second part, the work of this thesis is extended to hollow systems composed of hollow spheres and hollow Janus dumbbells that can be used as model systems to probe phase behaviour of hollow capsules.
Morlier, Hélène. "Les guides-Joanne (1841-1919) : généalogie, hégémonie et renaissance d’une collection nationale de guides touristiques." Thesis, Paris, EHESS, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019EHES0102.
This study focuses on the “Joanne” series of guidebooks that acquired popularity several decades before it was renamed “Guides Bleus” in 1919. The aim of this work is to grasp the series’ genealogy, evolution and transformation throughout the geographical regions it dealt with, mostly 19th and early 20th century Europe. This thesis falls into a multidisciplinary approach: mainly a historical research, it also makes use of Geography as well as History of Art, Archaeology, Literature and History of techniques. As the Joanne guidebooks were not created ex nihilo, this thesis first delves into the context that pushed the editor Hachette, in 1855, to buy back a tourist guidebook series that was then called “Richard”. It is thus necessary to go back to the late 18th century and the appearance of the first "Reichard" guidebooks. It then analyses the first acquisition of guidebooks that resulted in the creation of the “Bibliothèque des chemins de fer” (Railway library), distributed in the kiosks of train stations. In its second part, this study aims to reconstruct the emergence of these guidebooks famous for their “Prussian blue” covers, taking into account technical evolutions of printing and overall competition in this domain. This brings about a comparison between the French production and its British and German counterparts, Murray and Baedeker. These series pose a serious commercial threat to the French guidebooks, but also represent a source of emulation. The third part of this work introduces the reader to the various derivatives of the Joanne series. They are seen as an example of how the guidebooks were adapted to change in travel practices and to the appearance of new forms of transport, rail and automobile, before the rupture of the First World War. The thesis hence studies the shift that brought about the “Guides Bleus”. The work ends with a synthesis of the role played by these guidebooks in their historical period as well as to the birth of mass tourism in the middle of the 20th century
Kamal-Idrissi, Assia. "Optimisation des réseaux aériens : analyse et sélection de nouveaux marchés." Thesis, Université Côte d'Azur, 2020. https://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-03177526.
In the airline industry, problems are various and complicated. Solving these problems aims at reducing costs and maximizing revenues. Revenues can be increased while improving the quality of service. For example, one way is to catch new passengers on existing flight connections or on new markets. The selection of new markets consists in determining network structure to operate, and to estimate passengers flow, their choice of itineraries as well as incomes and costs incurred by these decisions. Our research is about improving market planner engine. Milanamos develops an application for the analysis and simulation of markets intended for air-ports and airlines. It offers its customers a decision-making tool to analyze historical data andto simulate markets in order to find an economic opportunity. This project takes place earlierin the decision process. Thanks to a thorough data analysis, the air transport network could be modelized as a time-independent graph and stored in the Neo4j graph database. We then defined the Flight Radius problem which resolution allows to determine a sub-network centered around a flight for which market shares of the flight are meaningful. Several methods have beenproposed based on queries or on shortest path algorithms combined with acceleration and parallelism techniques. Our algorithms identify some new markets for a flight. Combining graph theory with databases offers new opportunities for analyzing and studying large networks
