Abstract:
This paper is to study the mechanism of aging on the Rheological and Chemical Investigation of the bitumen and make correlations with the actual field behavior of the binder. The effects of ageing on rheological properties of asphalt has been studied by Bending Beam Rheometer(BBR). The objective of conducting these tests is to evaluate the performance of the bitumen in an aged and unaged states in relation to the effects of traffic speed and/or pavement temperature, traffic volume (number of load repetitions), and (thermal/load) cracking behavior.

Abstract:
It is proposed that the established epidemiologic framework normally used for investigation of civilian epidemics can usefully be adapted to provide a more structured approach to future investigations of allegations of chemical, biological, or toxin warfare. Using this framework, investigations of such allegations during the past decade are reviewed. These investigations took place during the yellow rain affair in Laos and Kampuchea, the Iran-Iraq war, and the Iraq-Kurd war. Further allegations are likely and will require investigation.

Abstract:
?-sitosterol was isolated by silica gel column chromatography from the dichloromethane soluble extract of pericarp of Corypha taliera Roxb. (Talipalm), a rare species of Arecaceae family. The compound was characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic studies. Fatty acid compositions of oil of the pericarp was determined as their methyl esters and identified by gas chromatography having flame ionization and the gas chromatograph was coupled to mass spectroscopic detectors. Myristic, palmitic, oleic, linoleic, stearic, arachidic and lignoceric acids were found to be present in the oil. The palmitic acid was predominant (50.75%) in the oil. The relative percentage of unsaturated acid i.e., linoleic and oleic acids was found to be 15.58 and 20.89%, respectively. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bjb.v42i1.15824 Bangladesh J. Abstract:
AbstractBackgroundEpidemiological studies have historically focused on single toxicants, or toxic chemicals, and neurodevelopment, even though the interactions of chemicals and nutrients may result in additive, synergistic, antagonistic, or potentiating effects on neurological endpoints. Investigating the impact of environmentally-relevant chemical mixtures, including heavy metals and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), is more reflective of human exposures and may result in more refined environmental policies to protect the public.ObjectiveIn this review, we provide a summary of epidemiological studies that have analyzed chemical mixtures of heavy metals and EDCs and neurobehavior utilizing multi-chemical models, including frequentist and Bayesian methods.ContentStudies investigating chemicals and neurobehavior have the opportunity to not only examine the impact of chemical mixtures, but they can also identify chemicals from a mixture that may play a key role in neurotoxicity, investigate interactive effects, estimate non-linear dose response, and identify potential windows of susceptibility. The examination of neurobehavioral domains is particularly challenging given that traits emerge and change over time and subclinical nuances of neurobehavior are often unrecognized. To date, only a handful of epidemiological studies examining neurodevelopment have utilized multi-pollutant models in the investigation of heavy metals and EDCs. However, these studies were successful in identifying contaminants of importance from the exposure mixtures.Summary and OutlookInvestigators are encouraged to broaden their focus to include more environmentally relevant mixtures of chemicals using advanced statistical approaches, particularly to aid in identifying potential mechanisms underlying associations.

Abstract:
The majority of U.S. sewage sludges are disposed by application to land for use as a soil amendment. Class B sludges, containing a complex mix of chemical and biological contaminants, comprise the majority. Residents near land application sites report illness. Symptoms of more than 328 people involved in 39 incidents in 15 states are described. Investigation and tracking of the incidents by agencies is poor. Only one of 10 EPA regions provided substantial information on the incidents in their region. Investigations, when conducted, focused on compliance with regulations. No substantial health-related investigations were conducted by federal, state, or local officials. A system for tracking and investigation is needed. Analysis of the limited data suggests that surface-applied Class B sludges present the greatest risk and should be eliminated. However, even under less risky application scenarios, the potential for off-site movement of chemicals, pathogens, and biological agents suggests that their use should be eliminated.

Anyone interested in assessing an allegation of unconventional warfare would agree with the statement by Peter Barss that “the investigation of an alleged outbreak of CBTW should be conducted, whenever possible, in accordance with the well-tested steps that guide the standard epidemiologic investigation of an outbreak of disease or injuries.” In fact, during my tenure as commander of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, response teams were organized in various configurations to deploy on short notice to carry out thorough epidemiological investigations should an incident occur in which the use of biological agents might be suspected or considered. The teams were equipped and organized with the appropriate mix of expertise to carry out the type of epidemiological investigations discussed by Barss.
