Full textOur research entitled Translation and Analogy in the Franco-Romanian Field is globally carried out within the framework of translation studies, considered as an application area of contemporary linguistic and psychological theories operating with the concepts of analogy, conceptualization and motivation (P Monneret, (2004), D. Hofstadter, E. Sander, (2013).The thesis consists of four parts : the first two, Translation and Analogy, represent a theoretical approach aiming to offer a new perspective on translational thinking from an interdisciplinary point of view, including analogical linguistics, philosophy and cognitive psychology, while the last two, Analogical and Phraseological Aspects in Translation and Translator Experience, attempt to prove the active involvement of the studied concepts in the translational process as well as to provide originality to this research. Thus, the relevance of the concept of analogy as "conceptualization of a state of facts" (J. - R. Ladmiral, (2016)) is examined in relation to translation as praxis, in order to account for the well-known phenomena of transposition or of equivalence to which the translator is frequently confronted, especially in the case of literary texts. We will therefore ask the question of the restitution, during the translation, of the analogical structures present in the text to be translated, through a process of conceptual transfer or semantic innovation. The corpus of research consists of the novel Cum mi-am petrecut vacanţa de vară (How I spent my summer holidays), written by the Romanian writer TO Bobe, whose first translation in French has many difficulties concerning the transposition of fixed expressions, puns, paroimia, amalgams, culturemes defined as "units carrying cultural information" (G. Lungu - Badea, (2007)). Our translation is not an exhaustive version, but more of a challenge and a daring exercise of mastering the translative techniques and it offers food for thought on the difficulties encountered and the strategies adopted. This thesis will also be an opportunity to highlight some aspects of the Romanian ethnocultural space, as well as Romanian contemporary literature and to enable its accessibility to the French-speaking reader

Full textThe literary translator in Iran is the key link in the chain of translation that contributes to the creation and development of new forms and themes in national literature. For the most part, it is the translator who begins the process of producing a translation by selecting the source text. However, this choice is not insignificant: it is affected by the whole trajectory of the translator's social life, his habitus according to Bourdieu and his horizon according to Berman; it is subject to the position occupied by the translator, and depends on the level of his symbolic, social, and economic capital which the previous expression of his standpoints, in this case his translations, have accumulated. Once the source text has been selected, the choice of the translation strategy follows the same pattern. It is the habitus and the position of the translator, which can orient him towards a particular technique or approach. Furthermore, the aim of the translator is important: does he/she want to earn money or recognition from his/her peers? Does he/she choose to subvert the established rules or to respect them in his/her translation? By analyzing the case of (re)translations into Persian of Albert Camus' Caligula, using a multidisciplinary approach at the crossroads of sociology and translation studies, the present study attempts to provide an overview of the field of literary translation in Iran and to identify the role of the agents who play an active role in it such as the translator, the publisher, the controlling authorities and agencies such as cultural ministries and academies, as well as the booksellers whose influence on the reception of (re)translations has often been ignored in translation studies of the Iranian context

Full textThe thesis is a lexicological study that studies Greek expressions belonging to the lexical field of translation. There are three types of lexemes in Ancient Greek (ca 500 BC – 500 CE) translation vocabulary: 1. a loanword (ἑρμηνεύς), 2. words formed by derivation from it (ἑρμηνεύω etc.) and 3. semantic neologisms, i.e. terms that acquired the meaning of “translate; translation” etc. through a semasiological operation (the extension of their primary and usual meanings). The third type can be divided into two groups according to the operation that takes place in their semantics: a) metaphors and b) synecdoches. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the study of ἑρμηνεύς and its cognates. The etymology of ἑρμηνεύς is examined: it proves to be a borrowing from Carian, an Anatolian language of Luwic branch. It is a terminus technicus borrowed with the meaning “language interpreter” which develops semantically by generalization ("interpreter, translator" > "interpreter, intermediary, spokesman"). The same goes for the denominative verb ἑρμηνεύω to which we assign the original meaning “to translate orally, interpret” and which will later mean “to express, explain”. These expressions being endowed with different meanings, Greek forms new words (such as the verb μεθερμηνεύω) in order to designate unambiguously interlingual translation. The second part opens with an analysis of the general theory of metaphor (in ancient thinkers, namely Aristotle, Demetrius, Cicero, Quintilian, etc.) which focuses on those aspects of metaphor that play an essential role in the translation metaphors. The attention is paid mainly to the transfer metaphor (verbs μεταφέρω, ἄγω etc.) that appears for the first time in the translation terminology in Plato’s Critias. An appendix treats the terminology of translation in a few European languages (Old French, French, English, German, Russian and Slovak)

Full textThis work addresses the place of French literature in China by tracing the translation routes of contemporary French novels. The translation process was transformed at the end of 1992, when China signed two important international conventions of copyright. Inspired by the sociological approach of Translation Studies, this thesis adopts the conceptual tools of Pierre Bourdieu and proposes a study based on field research and quantitative analysis of first-hand statistics. The goal is thus to illustrate the translation mechanism shaped by the social structure, to identify the agents and to understand who translates what in this conditioned process. In the first section which traces the history of literary translation in China with Bourdieu's tools, we note that no matter who dominates the translation - writers, translators, the State or academics - the French literature conveys usually a rich symbolic capital in China. We argue in the second part that the introduction of a market economy in 1993 has reshaped the power relation between the various agents, and pushed the editors and publishers to play a relatively decisive role - even if still under state control. Therefore, commercial production is greatly enhanced. In this landscape, the situation of French novels seems out of step. We reveal in the third part that in terms of working process, French novels mobilize special agents trained by the academic field whose vocation lies in the literature of small-scale production rather than the large-scale production, and this observation is testified by analyzing the catalog of the most active publisher in the field (Shanghai 99). The fourth part presents a panorama of contemporary French authors who’s been translated, and realizes the presumption that French translated works are concentrated in the restricted pole: French bestsellers are also translated, but they do not sell well in China. However, we still observe that French authors with a limited readership have been able to find a Chinese publisher who corresponds to their literary genre and have their works translated systematically. In short, we argue that in China today, French novels are no less translated, but they are rather managed by agents who are located in the sub-field of small-scale production, in a balance of power between academic field and economic field.

Full textThe Exegetical Greek Catenae on the Book of Jeremiah (chap. 1-4). Presentation, Critical Edition, Translation and Commentary. Exegetical Catenae are collections of excerpts from the biblical commentaries of the Church Fathers. They were compiled between the 6th century A. D. And the end of the Byzantine period. Two types of Catenae to the Book of Jeremiah exist : the first one quotes many patristic commentators, while the second uses only John Chrysostom and Theodoret of Cyrrhus. There also is an abridged version of the first type. In the first chapter of my thesis, after a general survey of the literary genre, the extant Catenae to Jeremiah are introduced, with special focus on the manuscript tradition and the authors that are quoted. The second chapter provides, for each Catena to Jr 1-4, an edition of the Greek text with a critical apparatus and a French translation. It is followed by an index of Greek words and an index of biblical quotations. Through a comparative analysis of the different Catenae, the third and fourth chapters study how they were written and how they were to be read ; they also analyse the exegetical themes they highlight, in order to show the aim of each catenist. In the fifth chapter, the Catenae to Jeremiah are compared to other published Catenae in order to give insight into how they relate to the genre but also what is specific to the Jeremiah Catenae. Indices of the authors mentioned and of commented biblical quotations, as well as a bibliography, are found at the end of the volume

Full textOur research intends at understanding how a method as “the action method for integrating home assistance and nursing care services in the scope of autonomy“ (MAIA) is put into action and how it can change the point of view of the professionals involved. To identify the leverages and the obstacles influencing the development of the MAIA, possibly its sustainability. With this aim, we decide to adopt an in-depth case study analysis of “Alpha”; a MAIA taken as a representative example of “canonical” MAIA. The choice of case study methodology goes well with the explorative character of the study. Particularly, we mobilized a qualitative methodology with a content analysis. The results’ analysis reveals, on one side, the challenges of recognition and legitimacy of the MAIA vis a vis the involved parties and the problems related to the absence of sensemaking of the collective action. On the other side, we highlighted the work of the actors inside “Alpha” and the good functioning of the latter. These results were completed with an analysis of micro-situations. Our results lead us to the literature of three main axes: the coordination, legitimacy and sensemaking. Finally, we revert back to the foundations of two theories mobilized as a theoretical framework: the theory of economies of worth and the theory of the actor network or sociology of translation
