Abstract:
Often overlooked in the study of nineteenth-century American literature, the New England writer Rose Terry Cooke elicited great popular appeal during the peak of her career. The admiration Cooke received from her readers and fellow writers compels one to question Cooke’s present-day obscurity. Cooke’s fiction and poetry seem inconsistent with the attitudes she express in her non-fiction, particularly concerning religion and women’s suffrage. She portrays women in miserable marriages, desperately looking for an escape. These “brides of Bluebeard” find different ways to cope with their predicament. While most never truly escape, many use (1) religious devotion, (2) masochism, and (3) homosocial relations as “coping mechanisms” in their plight. I identify each of these reactions to Bluebeard figures in Cooke’s writing in order to understand the contradictions in her works, for, like Cooke, these brides were products of their culture, torn between duty to self and duty to others.

Da, Vinha Mathieu. "Les Valets de Chambre du Roi au XVIIième siècle, vers 1640-1720." Paris 4, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA040003.

Abstract:
During the ancient régime, valets de chamber were probably the household officers closest to the French king. There were four "premier valets" and thirty-two "valets ordinary. " Part of the monarch's vast domestic staff (and members of the Royal Household in particular), these men served three-month shifts of duty, primarily attending the king when he rose in the morning and retired at night. Their official hierarchical rank was contradicted by the reality of their position - in the seventeenth century, far from being limited to menial tasks, they managed to win the king's trust and enjoyed a unique status. The "premier valets," although officers of the second rank, tended to get the better of their household superiors - the "Gentlemen of the Chamber" - when it came to personal contact with the king. Most valets were drawn from the bourgeoisie, and were granted a noble title; such titles had occasionally been hereditary but were merely individual by the end of the seventeenth century. Nevertheless, their appointment guaranteed valets all the privileges of second-rank officers, and a calculated policy of intermarriage along with a progressive closing of their professional shop meant that a title of nobility was no longer considered a priority. Solidly rooted in the royal household through tradition and through appointment to other offices, these men were never really excluded from the ranks of the aristocracy. Thanks to their close contact with the king (premier valets slept at the foot of the royal bed), some of them rose high on the social ladder. Dynasties begun under Louis XIII survived into the days of Louis XV and even Louis XVI - these faithful servants of the crown were rewarded with honors, titles, and wealth. This study is more than a history of a group of household servants, for it aims to offer a new view of the French court, as seen not by aristocratic writers of memoirs by rather by courtiers who practiced a "trade" there

Roos, Karin Hester. "Effects of plant extracts and phytoconstituents on the intestinal transport of indinavir / K.H. Roos." Thesis, North-West University, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/9692.

Abstract:
There is a global rise in the use of herbal products in combination with allopathic medicines, while most patients do not inform their health care providers of the use of these natural products. Both pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic interactions between herbal products and conventional drugs must be avoided for the wellbeing of the patient. Increasing evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that changed drug pharmacokinetics by co-administered herbs may be attributed to modulation of efflux drug transporters such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp). Garlic (Allium sativum), lemon (Citrus limonum) and beetroot (Beta vulgaris) are widely used by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients, especially following the pronouncement by a former President of South Africa and the Ministers of Health at that time who promoted the use of these botanicals in HIV patients. The aim of this study was to measure the bi-directional in vitro transport of indinavir, a protease inhibitor, in the presence of crude extracts and pure phytoconstituents of A. sativum (L-alliin and diallyl disulphide), C. limonum (hesperidin and eriocitrin) and B. vulgaris (betaine monohydrate and ß-carotene) across excised porcine intestinal tissue in Sweetana-Grass diffusion chambers. In the negative control group, the transport of indinavir alone (200 M) was determined with no modulator added. In the positive control group, the transport of indinavir was determined in the presence of verapamil (100 M), a known P-gp related efflux inhibitor. The control experiments were used to indicate that the effects of the test compounds were caused by their action and not by chance interferences or external factors. Samples collected at pre-determined time intervals were analysed by means of a validated high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method and the transport was expressed as the apparent permeability coefficient (Papp) and the transepithelial flux (J) from which the efflux ratio (ER) and the net flux (Jnet) values were calculated. Statistical analysis was used to compare the results of the test compounds with the control groups in order to indicate significant differences. The mean ER value for indinavir in the negative control group was 1.41 ± 0.170 and in the positive control group it was 0.56 ± 0.0426. Statistically significant (p < 0.05) inhibition of indinavir efflux as indicated by reduced ER values was obtained for L-alliin (ER = 0.280 ± 0.030), diallyl disulphide (ER = 0.505 ± 0.034) and ß-carotene (ER = 0.664 ± 0.075). Inhibition of indinavir efflux will lead to increased transport and therefore a potentially higher bioavailability. Statistically significant (p < 0.05) promotion of indinavir efflux as indicated by increased ER values was obtained for C. limonum crude extract (ER = 5.551 ± 0.575) and hesperidin (ER = 3.385 ± 0.477), which potentially may lead to lower bioavalability. B. vulgaris crude extract (p = 0.8452), betaine monohydrate (p = 0.9982), A. sativum crude extract (p = 0.7161) and eriocitrin (p = 0.4431) displayed no statistically significant effect compared to the negative control group on indinavir transport across excised porcine intestinal tissue. The results from this study demonstrate that L-alliin, diallyl disulphide and ß-carotene have an inhibitory effect on indinavir efflux, which may significantly increase indinavir plasma levels after oral administration. C. limonum crude extract and hesperidin promote indinavir efflux, which may significantly reduce indinavir plasma levels. These pharmacokinetic interactions between certain drugs and plant extracts may negatively affect the anti-retroviral treatment of HIV patients, but deliberate and controlled inclusion of L-alliin, diallyl disulphide and ß-carotene in dosage forms may possibly cause more effective delivery of protease inhibitors after oral administration resulting in less frequent dosing intervals.

King, Laura Emily. "Development and testing of a fluorometric method and instrument based on the 2',7' dichlorodihydrofluorescin assay for the measurement of reactive oxygen species." Thesis, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/45943.

Full text
Abstract:
An online, semi-continuous instrument to measure both total and gas phase atmospheric reactive oxygen species (ROS) and determine the concentration of ROS in the particle phase (ROS(p)) was developed. This instrument was based on a fluorescent probe for quantifying ambient ROS, specifically 2'7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescin, or DCFH probe. This probe was analyzed for sensitivity to a variety of offline and online parameters for efficient use in a field instrument. The ROS(p) instrument measures the peak light intensity at 530 nm to determine ambient ROS concentrations. ROS particles and gases are collected in a mist chamber in a nebulized mist. The instrument alternates measurements of ROS(p+g), or ROS(tot) by means of an inline filter. Fine (PM₂.₅) (ROS(p) is determined by subtraction of the ROS(g) concentration from the ROS(tot), as the ROS(g) signal could not be excluded. This instrument was tested during the summer (May-July) of 2012 at urban and rural sites in the metropolitan Atlanta and surrounding region. Concentrations of ROS(p) determined from this instrument were often below limit of detection. Average concentrations of ROS(p) were found to be 0.25 nmol/m³ in urban Atlanta (Jefferson St. and Georgia Tech), and 0.15 nmol/m³ in Yorkville, a rural site. A side by side comparison of this method with a filter collection method was made in July. The average ROS(p) offline concentrations were 0.15 nmol/m³. These concentrations were comparable to the online average concentrations of 0.21 nmol/m³ for the same period of time. This average and the majority of the measurements comprising it is dominated by the high limit of detection. The ROS instrument as constructed and operated is an efficient way to conduct ROS(p) measurements at the level of a filter study while reducing the labor intensive filter collection and extraction. In order for this instrument to be successful at measuring ambient ROS in the particle phase, the removal of the gas phase from the current sampling scheme is critical as the ROS(g) concentrations are over 90% of the measured ROS. The system as currently operable is best suited for source measurements, including biomass burning plumes or fresh exhaust to capture immediate formation.

Abstract:
The peripheral nerves are extensions of the central nervous system and are responsible for the sensory and motor functions of the limbs. These nerves are vulnerable to the same types of traumas that affect other tissues: contusion, compression, crushing, stretching, avulsion, and laceration. Amongst the most disabling kinds of injuries that affect working-age individuals are those of the peripheral nerves; due to the multifaceted characteristics of the aftereffects of the injury. The break in continuity of the nerve structure due to trauma, as in the case of neurotmesis, results in the disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses and the disorganization of their functions. Through the use of microsurgery, it was possible to develop reconstructive techniques that range from a simple end-to-end neurorrhaphy to sophisticated surgical procedures that utilize nerve grafts, inverted veins and arteries, and synthetic rods of varied materials such as silicone or porous polyethylene. Another aspect that intrigues researchers around the world is the utilization of neurogenic factors capable of accelerating or improving the regeneration of peripheral nerves. Autologous fat has been a constant reference in this field of surgery due to its abundant supply at the surgical site itself. The results are promising, as the adventitia of vessels consists of loose connective tissue rich in adipocytes. Thus in a trauma, the neurites derived from the proximal stump of the damaged nerve are in direct contact with these adipocytes. Following this reasoning, and based on previous studies where veins grafted with fresh skeletal muscle were used, we decided to conduct a randomized controlled study to test the possibility of axonal growth by means of grating with a polyethylene rod filled with autologous adipocytes associated with immersion in a hyperbaric chamber. In an attempt to recover the sciatic nerve, a rod 12 mm in length, with a diameter of 0.25 mm, and with pores of 80 μm in diameter, filled with adipose tissue in natura removed from the surroundings of said nerve, was used. The morphometric results showed that the experimental groups with and without fat fillings had results that, from the morphometric and functional point of view, were of no statistically significant difference. However, when these results were compared with the final control group, statistically significant differences were noted. Highlighting the functional evaluation through the use of Catwalk, it was found that there were no statistically significant differences between the experimental groups, but there was indeed a difference in comparison to the final control group. In light of the evidence found and supported by literature, one can conclude that the use of the hyperbaric chamber brought positive results verified by the proximity of both the morphometric and functional results of the experimental groups.

Abstract:
This study deals with the concept of « secret », in the specific context of kingship in Ancient Egypt, focusing on its requirements, its forms and its structural implications, from the beginning of the Old Kingdom until the end of the New Kingdom. A linguistic research on the Egyptian terms translating as « secret » and « private » and their synonyms  (s)StA, waaw, Dsrw, jmn et HAp being the most common , which is complemented by a prosopographic study, enabled us to pinpoint the different categories of individuals who had access to the « secrets » and private affairs of the Egyptian kingship and what conditions were required to maintain secrecy. Then this privilege must have implied a real participation in the personal tasks performed for the king, whether these were rituals or affairs calling for discretion. The officials’ titles involving secrecy and knowledge of specific private rules, in particular the Hry-sStA title « he who is in charge of secrets », indicate the field of responsabilities and of activities of their holders in the king's entourage, in the king’s cult and in state administration. Some individuals could access to the restricted areas of the royal apartments, for a private consultation related to state affairs or in order to perform rites or ceremonies associated with the king. Each of these situations displays the determination of these officials, close to the king, to preserve the sanctity of the royal office. Studying these areas of confidentiality allows a better understanding of the pharaoh’s personal and ritualized life, in order to improve our perception of the functioning of royal power in Ancient Egypt

Abstract:
This chapter first considers Baudelaire’s prose poem ‘Le Crépuscule du soir’ from Le Spleen de Paris. It argues that Baudelaire’s poem troubles common (humanist and liberal) ideas about agency, choice and decision-making. In order to understand how change is then produced in the poem, the chapter turns to the writings of Brian Massumi, explaining how Massumi invites us to think human beings as dynamic mediations of their environments. The second and third part of the chapter further explores the conception of subjectivity put forth in Baudelaire’s writing, positioning the arguments in relation to three Baudelaire-readers: Georges Poulet, Ross Chambers and Jacques Rancière. Particular weight is given to Rancière’s description of the Baudelairean subject as ‘an infinite network of sensations’ (Le fil perdu, 2014: 104) that opposes traditional socio-political structures.

Abstract:
Taking as a starting point Ranjana Khanna’s political concept of melancholic remembrance as the choice avenue towards a more democratic Algeria, this chapter offers a critique of dominant readings of Mokeddem’s transnational framework in light of Deleuzian deterritorialization. It argues that the fluctuations of her novel N’Zid’s “post-traumatic” allegorical mode of expression (Ross Chambers) tear the seemingly clear-cut opposition between rooted and nomadic subjects. In turn, they reveal more complex forms of identity which, if they do not sacrifice the singular in the name of the collective, do not sacrifice the collective in the name of the singular. Both exceeding the nation and actively laying claim to it, this model of mobility elaborates a Mediterranean framework of social interactions intent on reclaiming and preserving the diversity of the Algerian collective in a melancholic mode. The chapter demonstrates how this empowered form of singularity navigates the meanders of collective and individual memory to undo many years of forced oblivion. A remodeling of Mokeddem’s Deleuzian desert nomadism, her Mediterranean trope emerges as a strategic transnational channel of opposition to narrow definitions of collective identity and spawns a new social compact in the wake of the Algerian Black Decade.

‘Prolific procreators’ talks about the primary function of insects, which is to reproduce. All insects have the same basic reproductive structure. Females have a pair of ovaries, each of which is divided further into a series of tubes, containing rows of egg chambers, the ovarioles. The number of ovarioles varies between species, from as few as four per ovary in some aphids to more than fifteen in some species of flies. The more ovarioles, the more offspring an insect can produce. Some orders of insects can be grouped together as the number of ovarioles is a constant, such as Lepidoptera, which have eight.

Abstract:
Chapter 1 introduces and briefly traces the concept of ruler visibility, the focal point of the entire book, from the inception of the Ottoman imperial project to the nineteenth century. This umbrella term facilitates two lines of subsequent analysis of the sultan’s public image – visibility at home vs. abroad, and visibility to Muslim vs. Christian target audiences. The chapter then focuses on the reign of Mahmud II (1808–39), who engineered the first shift in modern ruler visibility in the Ottoman Empire. On the basis of hitherto untapped Ottoman archival evidence, this chapter makes the claim that the reform process began much earlier than the standard narrative (the Rose Chamber Rescript (Gülhane Hatt-ı Şerif) of 1839) still claims. It also introduces some principles of aggrandisement of the ruler in the eyes of the people, such as piety, devotion to duty and fatherly status (in a ‘father-children’ metaphor of society), which pertain to the entire book.

“ROSE THORN”: ABOUT THE “SOUL WOUNDED BY LOVE”, OR THE MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE OF THERESA OF JESUS (FILM VISION BY RAY LORIGÁ) The article concerns the film by Ray Loriga Teresa el Cuerpo de Cristo (Theresa, The Body of Christ, 2007) showing the formation of the spiritual formation of Teresa of Jesus in connection with the cultural and historical context of the 16th century Spain. The author analyzes the director`s efforts to illustrate the mystical experience of Theresa during the period from November 2, 1535 (i.e. her entry into the monastery of the Incarnation in Avila) until August 24, 1562 (i.e. the inauguration of the activity of the first Reformed Carmel in the monastery of St. Joseph). According to the author, Ray Loriga’s intention was to present the simple story of Teresa’s stay in the monastery of the Incarnation in Avila, presented in accordance with her spiritual autobiography - The Book of My Life - through the prism of her inner experience illustrated in the Inner Fortress/The Interior Castle, in which she described her spirituality as a path through seven “chambers of the fortress”. The author focuses on the analysis of the ways in which Loriga visualizes Theresa’s radical mysticism, such as the use of a visual key (the leitmotif of a red dress signaling the experience of mystical graces) and the motif of a swinging door (referring to the metaphor of apartments as stages in the union of the soul with God), visions of revelations Christ in his bodily reality, and iconographic compositions of vision scenes (meetings with Christ or mystical wounding). According to the author and the interpretation of a renowned Hispanist, Joseph Perez, the portrait of Theresa of Jesus created by Ray Loriga, may be inspiring, as it shows a woman who challenges the times in which she lives.

Abstract:
Abstract Numerical calculation of conjugate heat transfer is carried out to study the effect of combined film and swirl cooling at the leading edge of a gas turbine vane with a a cooling chamber inside, in which 3-D steady RANS approach with the k-ω SST turbulence model is used. Two different kinds of coolant chamber configuration (C1 and C2) are selected. In C2, the cooling chamber is composed of a front cavity and a back cavity, and the two cavities are connected by a passage which is divided into 16 segments. The comparative investigations between C1 and C2 cases have been carried out to study the effect of different cooling chambers at M = 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2. For two cases, overall cooling effectiveness increases with M increasing. In C1 case, with increasing M, differences of mass flow through film holes rows will decrease. The variation of mass flow from holes changes by less than 26.7% at M = 2. However, in C2 case, mass flow through S1 and S2 is significantly larger than that through other film holes rows. Area-averaged overall effectiveness in C2 is larger by 2.5% at M = 0.25 compared to C1 case.

Abstract:
Parameters at a combustion chamber’s inlet significantly vary in an aircraft engine’s transient states of operation. At the same time, there is a significant spatial heterogeneity of flow parameters at a diffuser inlet of a combustion chamber, which is defined by nature of flow in a compressor and an individual for each mode of operation of a specific gas generator. In this paper presented a study of an influence of radial and circumferential nonuniformities of flow parameters on characteristics of a combustion chamber. Multi spray for annular combustion chamber with two rows of burner is considered. Z-shaped sector, which contains two nozzles of outer and two nozzles of inner row, was selected as the calculated domain. Calculations were carried out in ANSYS Fluent 14.5 software package with an implementation of cluster analysis. Nonuniformity at a diffuser inlet was set as fifth degree polynomial, which was derived from a numerical simulation of a compressor. As a result it was established, that radial nonuniformity of flow parameters at an inlet of a combustion chamber influences on characteristics of a combustion chamber. A stretched shape of velocity profile contributes to higher air flow dynamic pressure on dome than using uniform profile air velocity. At that, local equivalents ratio excess are changing, and consequently, sizes and location NOx production zones are changing as well. The residual rotation of flow from the compressor leads to a lesser effect on total pressure drop and air distribution in flame tube. The obtained results showed that, during a design of a combustion chamber, it is necessary to take into account nonuniformity of parameters’ distribution at its inlet.

Abstract:
Significant improvements in gas turbine cooling technology are becoming harder as progress goes over and over. Several impingement cooling solutions have been extensively studied in past literature. An accurate and extensive numerical 1D simulation on a new concept of sequential impingement was performed, showing good results. Instead of having a single impingement plate, we used several perforated plates, connecting the inlet of each one with the outlet of the previous one. Main advantages are: absence of the negative interaction between transverse flow and last rows impinging jets (reduced deflection); better distribution of pressure losses and heat transfer coefficients among the different plates, especially when pressure drops are significant and available coolant mass flow rate is low (lean premixed combustion chamber and LP turbine stages). Practical applications can have a positive influence on both cooled nozzles and combustion chambers, in terms of increased cooling efficiency and coolant mass flow rate reduction. Calculated effects are used to analyze main influences of such a cooling system on global performances of power plants.

Abstract:
Abstract The present paper reports an impingement/effusion cooling structure applied to the turbine casing. The structure consists of three rows of jet holes and two rows of effusion holes, both of which are in a staggered arrangement. A high rib exists inside the impinging chamber for structural support, which is connected to the effusion plate and divides the impinging chamber into two interconnected small chambers, one of which is arranged with effusion holes and the other is not. Transient liquid crystal (TLC) experiments were conducted to investigate the influence of the Reynolds number based on the jet hole diameter (ReD), distance between impingement plate and effusion plate (H), hole pith in Y direction (A) and X direction (C), with a parameter range of 1100 ≤ ReD ≤ 5100, 2.5 ≤ H/D ≤ 7.5, 4.0 ≤ A/D ≤ 14.0 and 8.0 ≤ C/D ≤ 14.0, on the heat transfer characteristics of the effusion plate. The results show that the region averaged Nu increases with an increase in ReD for all studied cases and there is a linear relationship between the ReD and the region averaged Nu in the logarithmic coordinate. The change of H/D has an obvious effect on the heat transfer in the 2D-3D region from the stagnation point. As the H/D increases, the entrainment effect that makes the surrounding fluid continuously enter the jet, resulting in the velocity of the jet decreasing, and the enhanced heat transfer at the effusion plate becomes weaker. When 38 < Y/D < 42 and 0 < Y/D < 1, the Nu increases with the increase of H/D due to the weakening of the flow separation of the wall jet. The variation of A/D has little effect on the enhanced heat transfer in Region1 (surface without effusion hole), but for Regions2-4 (surface with effusion holes), decreasing or increasing A/D is unfavorable to the uniformity of the Nu distribution. The heat transfer enhancement is mainly influenced by C/D. As C/D decreases, the proportion occupied by the stagnation region gradually increases, thus the surface Nu increases significantly.

Abstract:
After the occurrence of severe water loss accident in a PWR, the water level in the reactor core would decrease gradually, leading to heat up and melted down of the core, threatening safety of the nuclear power plant and the surrounding environment. In this paper, the 1/4 core of AP1000 PWR was adopted for study, a numerical method has been established to calculate the transient change of temperature and melting process of the core and envelope structure (boarding, basket and RPV) after the severe water loss accident. A two-dimensional conduction model with cylindrical coordinate has been used to simulate heat transfer along the radius and height direction of fuel rods and control rods in fuel assemblies. Heat transfer condition on rod surface considers nucleate boiling for rod surface below the water level, while radiative heat transfer among neighboring rods and natural convection with water vapor was considered for rod surface above the water level. Heat transfer along thickness of envelope structures were modeled with the one-dimensional conduction model. The results show that the maximum temperature of the whole reactor core does not exceed 3000K and AP1000 will not meet the melting of fuel rods with the help of RPV external water chamber cooling. The temperature values of the fuel rods and the control rod show the characteristic distribution of the two regions. At 4904s, the maximum temperature of the rod rises to 2900K, and then stabilize. The temperature of the shell is up to 2000K, the maximum temperature of the basket is to 1260K, the variation of RPV wall temperature is not obvious.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper summarizes experimental and computational results on the mixing of opposed rows of jets with a confined subsonic crossflow in rectangular ducts. The studies from which these results were excerpted investigated flow and geometric variations typical of the complex 3-D flowfield in the combustion chambers in gas turbine engines. The principal observation was that the momentum-flux ratio, J, and the orifice spacing, S/H, were the most significant flow and geometric variables. Jet penetration was critical, and penetration decreased as either momentum-flux ratio or orifice spacing decreased. It also appeared that jet penetration remained similar with variations in orifice size, shape, spacing, and momentum-flux ratio when the orifice spacing was inversely proportional to the square-root of the momentum-flux ratio. It was also seen that planar averages must be considered in context with the distributions. Note also that the mass-flow ratios and the orifices investigated were often very large (jet-to-mainstream mass-flow ratio >1 and the ratio of orifices-area-to-mainstream-cross-sectional-area up to 0.5 respectively), and the axial planes of interest were often just downstream of the orifice trailing edge. Three-dimensional flow was a key part of efficient mixing and was observed for all configurations.

Abstract:
The optimization of packing cup geometry is important for improving the reliability of hyper-compressors. The complex arrangement and the transmission of loads through the various components requires the use of FEA to properly determine the stress level. The need to reduce the sensitivity to external factors requires an investigation with more advanced simulations. The entire cylinder and associated components such as head flanges, cylinder chambers and tie rods, were modeled. This provided the characteristics of the interfaces and the boundary conditions necessary to simulate the packing cups. Considering the thickness, ring housing profile, lube-oil holes, mating surfaces, interference-fit and diameter make it possible to obtain the stresses at the most critical points. This new simulation approach shows the effect of the parameters that influence the stress level at critical points, thus optimizing the packing cup profile and its relevant features.

Abstract:
This report describes the detailed experimental study to characterize the local heat transfer coefficient distribution over the internal cooling passages of a simplified generic airfoil. The airfoil is manufactured through additive manufacturing based on actual geometry and dimensions (1X scale model) of row one airfoil, applicable in large gas turbine system. At the mainbody section, the serpentine channel consists of three passages without any surface features or vortex generators. Both the leading edge and trailing edge sections are subjected to direct impingement. The trailing edge section is divided into three chambers, separated by two rows of blockages. This study employs the well-documented transient liquid crystal technique, where the local heat transfer coefficient on both pressure and suction sides is deduced. The experiments were performed at varying Reynolds number, ranging from approximately 31,000–63,000. The heat transfer distribution on the pressure side and suction side is largely comparable in the first and third pass, except for the second pass. Highest heat transfer occurs at the trailing edge region, which is ultimately dominated by impingement due to the presence of three rows of blockages. A cursory numerical calculation is performed using commercially available software, ANSYS CFX to obtain detailed flow field distribution within the airfoil, which explains the heat transfer behavior at each passage. The flow parameter results revealed that the pressure ratio is strongly proportional with increasing Reynolds number.
