The current landscape of networking has witnessed a growing interest in two significant technologies: Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software-DefinedNetworking (SDN). These technologies offer novel approaches to network management, bringing flexibility and programmability to the forefront.Software-Defined Networking (SDN) revolutionizes the network management by decoupling the control plane from the data plane. This separation of plans allows forcentralized control and programmability, replacing traditional hardware-centric control withsoftware-based control. SDN can create virtual networks or efficiently control traditionalhardware networks through software, offering enhanced flexibility and adaptability.Network Function Virtualization (NFV), on the other hand, focuses on cost reduction and service deployment acceleration for network operators. It achieves this by decoupling network functions (NF), such as firewall or encryption, from dedicated hardware andvirtualizing them on standard servers. NFV enables the consolidation of multiple functions onto a single physical server, resulting in cost savings and minimized field interventions.Adding new network functions becomes more streamlined, requiring the activation of virtualmachines (VM) rather than deploying additional hardware across the entire network. The research thesis aims to tackle the NP-hard problem of optimal VNFs placementand chaining within a NFV network. This problem involves determining the most efficientsequence of service function chains (SFC) while directing flows through the VNFs. Theprimary objective is to develop an algorithm that achieves a cost optimal placement and chaining of VNFs, considering various constraints such as chaining order, processing capacity, and bandwidth capacity. The algorithm seeks to minimize the overall allocation costs while ensuring effectiveflow routing through the VNFs. By leveraging the capabilities of NFV and SDN, the thesis aimsto contribute to the advancement of network virtualization and software-defined networking. The proposed algorithms will empower network operators to make informed decisionsregarding VNFs placement, leading to improved network efficiency, cost reduction, andenhanced service provisioning. Ultimately, the thesis aims to enable network operators toeffectively manage their networks, allocate resources optimally and deliver services withincreased agility and cost-effectiveness

Lnterleukin 13 (IL13) is an immune regulatory cytokine playing a major role in humoral response. Two chains, IL13Rα1 and IL13Rα2, specifically bind IL13. Ln association with IL4Rα chain, IL13Rα1 chain forms a high affinity IL13R and thus, IL13Rα1 is essential for IL13 mediating effects. The biological function of the IL13Rα2 is still elusive. We study several normal and tumor cells for IL13Rα1 and IL13Rα2 chain expression. These two chains are coexpressed in human normal 8 lymphocytes, monocytes but absent from T cells. We find that (a) unlike glioma and melanoma cells, renal carcinoma cell (RCC) do not overexpress IL13Rα2 chain; (b) only RCC cell proliferation and IL6 synthesis are impaired by IL13. Moreover, we demonstrate that IL13Rα2 membrane overexpression specifically reduces the IL13 responsiveness of RCC cells. Finally, we show that melanoma cells release a soluble form of the IL13Rα2 chain acting as dominant negative inhibitor or a decoy receptor for IL13. Thus, through its membrane and soluble expression, IL13Rα2 chain may specifically regulate IL13 activity

Lutheran blood group antigens are carried by transmembrane Lutheran glycoproteins (Lu gp These gps are adhesion molecules and are the receptors for laminin alpha5, a major component of extracellu matrix. They are expressed on normal and sickle red blood cells, on endothelial cells and on epithelial cells multiple tissues. Abnormal red blood cell adhesion represents one of the major features of sickle cell disease a contributes to vaso-occlusion of blood vessels and capillaries. It has been shown that sickle red blood cell exhibit enhanced adhesion to laminin alphaS when they are activated by physiological stimuli such epinephrine and that this signalling pathway is Protein kinase A (PKA) and Lu gps-dependent. I showed that gp is phosphorylated by PKA in sickle cells and erytholeukaemic K562 cells and that this phosphorylation positively regulates the adhesion fonction of Lu gp to laminin under flow conditions. It is postulated tl modulation of the phosphorylation state of Lu gp might be a critical factor for the sickle red cell adhesivenes; laminin alphaS in sickle cell disease. Moreover, my results showed that Lu gp interacts directly with spectrin major protein of the erythroid skeleton, and that this interaction might modulate cell adhesion to laminin. In conclusion, I have shown that Lu gps might be involved in signal transduction events which could regulate the receptor fonction for laminin alpha5 under physiological and pathological conditions

With regard to a comtemporaneous person represented in a society caracterized by individualism two concepts get a meaning together: collective identities and social exclusions. This study takes place within a few institutions specialized in social work, during a sociologist's professional experiences (asylum, social home for adults, social worker training school). The sociologist's involvement with an institutional action, led her to present some of her social functions while being in a situation of intervention. Part 1 is a presentation of theories, and both analysis and action patterns which orientate the sociologist's research and act. Based on a biographical approach, a discussion on theories, social life stories and social protagonists follows in part 2. Grisis, violence, repetition and changes punctuate the day to day life in the surveyed institutions. Observed social logics variously enlighten the project for communication and insertion. This project is the basis for social exclusion today. The training of collective identities question the will that the other person be recognized with all his differences

Smart environments, in particular smartphones, are the target of multiple security attacks. Moreover, the deployment of traditional security mechanisms is often inadequate due to their highly constrained resources. In that context, we propose to use chains of security functions which are composed of several security services, such as firewalls or antivirus, automatically configured and deployed in the network. Chains of security functions are known as being error prone and hard to validate. This difficulty is caused by the complexity of these constructs that involve hundreds and even thousands of configuration rules. In this PhD thesis, we propose the architecture of an orchestrator, exploiting the programmability brought by software defined networking, for the automated configuration and deployment of chains of security functions. It is important to automatically insure that these security chains are correct, before their deployment in order to avoid the introduction of security breaches in the network. To do so, our orchestrator relies on methods of automated verification and synthesis, also known as formal methods, to ensure the correctness of the chains. Our work also consider the optimization of the deployment of chains of security functions in the network, in order to maintain its resources and quality of service
Herbaut, Nicolas. "Distribution de contenus collaborative basée sur une plateforme de fonctions réseaux virtualisées en tant que service." Thesis, Bordeaux, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017BORD0738/document.
The constant rise of Over-The-Top video consumption nowadays challenges the current Internetarchitecture. As an overwhelming majority of the bandwidth today is dedicated to the deliveryof video contents, Internet actors such as Content Providers, Content Delivery Network, InternetService Providers are forced to optimize their networks to support the Quality of Experience expectedby the End-Users . Such costly specialized networks participate to the so-called "ossification" of theInternet whichmakes the architecture harder to update, as the placement and dimensioning of linksand middleboxes may be hard to change in the future to support new use cases. Fortunately, thetrend of Virtualizating and Softwarizing the networks pushed by major Telco operators, vendors andstandardization bodies has given hopes that the computing and networking infrastructure can beeasily re-purposed. The agility promoted by technologies such as Network Function Virtualizationand Software Defined Networking makes it possible for middleboxes to be deployed as VirtualNetwork Functions that can run on "commercial off-the-shelf" hardware while having the networkmanaged by a logically centralized controller deploying network configurations on programmableforwarding devices. The goal of this thesis is to show how content distribution can be collaboratively improved thanksto Network Softwarization. First, we propose CDN-as-a-Service (CDNaaS), a complete solution tovirtualize a Content Delivery Network on top of a VNF-as-a-Service platform, adopted and evaluatedat large scale in the FP7 T-Nova European project. We elaborate on the interfaces, architecture anddesign choices made to implement the platform to support performance, automatic scaling andre-usability. Then, we propose two collaboration models allowing the content delivery actors to workjointly on improving End-User Quality of experience while fostering a healthy competition and a fairbalance of revenue. Finally, we study the challenges of NFV resource allocation for the vCDN serviceand propose several heuristics and algorithms to optimize the proposed solution in a cost-effectiveway. This thesis paves the way towards a collaborative content distribution allowing End-Users toaccess their content with the highest standards while contributing to a sound development of theInternet

Recent advances in networks, such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), are changing the way network operators deploy and manage Internet services. On one hand, SDN introduces a logically centralized controller with a global view of the network state. On the other hand, NFV enables the complete decoupling of network functions from proprietary appliances and runs them as software applications on general–purpose servers. In such a way, network operators can dynamically deploy Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). SDN and NFV benefit network operators by providing new opportunities for reducing costs, enhancing network flexibility and scalability, and shortening the time-to-market of new applications and services. Moreover, the centralized routing model of SDN jointly with the possibility of instantiating VNFs on–demand, may open the way for an even more efficient operation and resource management of networks. For instance, an SDN/NFV-enabled network may simplify the Service Function Chain (SFC) deployment and provisioning by making the process easier and cheaper. In this study, we aim at investigating how to leverage both SDN and NFV in order to exploit their potential benefits. We took steps to address the new opportunities offered in terms of network design, network resilience, and energy savings, and the new problems that arise in this new context, such as the optimal network function placement in the network. We show that a symbiosis between SDN and NFV can improve network performance and significantly reduce the network's Capital Expenditure (CapEx) and Operational Expenditure (OpEx)
Sun, Xiaowei. "De la relation entre service public et fonction publique. Etude comparée des droits français et chinois." Thesis, Besançon, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014BESA0001/document.
In France, since the 1990s, the traditional polarity public service / civil service is questioned by privatization and public services outsourcing on the one hand, and by contracting and "managerialization" of civil service on the other hand. These trends are also observed in China in the construction of a public services system from 1990s, and in the establishment of a civil service decided in the late 1980s and endorsed by the Law of 27 April 2005 on Public Servants. In spite of the political and cultural differences between the two countries, there is a converging movement : the public administration steps back from the public services management, while the private law grows its influence on the civil service law. Public law, as it traditionally governs the public service and the civil service, is therefore challenged both in its scope and in its substance. As the relationship between public services and civil service distends, the correlation between the purposes of state and the administrative structures is less obvious. In this context, the comparison of French and Chinese laws illuminates the ongoing transformations of public law

The general context of the thesis is the development of adaptive mechanisms that uses information from a given environment and context (Quality of Experience: QoE) and adapting it in order to initiate a specific corrective actions following the occurrence of undesirable events such as an unsatisfactory Quality of Service (QoS), negative feedback or malfunctions of network elements. To do this, the main objective of this thesis is to develop a new network management by moving from a "network centred" view, where only parameters from the network itself were used, to a "user centred" view. This view consists in considering all the factors that can impact the end-user's experience. The work developed as part of this thesis focused on studying these factors on all components of the processing and transport chain (user, peripheral, application, network elements) and measuring their impact in estimating user QoE. The use case considered concerns approaches to the dissemination of adaptive bit rate streaming (ABR). The thesis work led to the proposal of a new solution for the adaptive bit rate streaming operating in a closed loop and sensitive to QoE. Such a solution allows to optimize in real time the quality of the video according to the instantaneous measurement of the estimated QoE

Smart Grids aim to transform the current electric grid into a "smarter" network where energy production is decentralized and automated, which facilitates the integration of renewable energy resources. This evolution is made possible thanks to the use of a communication network for the multiple heterogeneous data exchanges of the Smart Grids. Hence, the aim of this thesis is to propose an efficient communication paradigm in terms of quality of service for Smart Grids based on wireless sensor networks.First, we study data routing in Smart Grids with the RPL standard. Nevertheless, RPL is not suitable for Smart Grid applications in terms of quality of service. Therefore, we propose an objective function for RPL that takes different features of both nodes and links into consideration. Results show that our approach improves network performance compared to existing solutions in terms of packet delivery ratio, network lifetime, latency and traffic differentiation. Then, we also propose a more efficient data collection by introducing self-organization and data reduction for these wireless sensors. The goal is to predict the value of the measured data rather than transmitting them. Another explored approach is to aggregate the different messages sent across the network while considering their different requirements in terms of quality of service. These two approaches reduce the energy consumption while respecting the requirements of the different applications of the Smart Grids

Resolution of the void-problem in geographical routing in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is an open problem and it can be considered as key issue in disseminating data from sensor nodes to sinks. In this thesis, unlike previously-proposed methods, we address this problem in a different manner by proposing a novel approach to handle both voids and real-time flows with optimizing energy-efficiency of deployed nodes in a WSN. The proposed approach is based on the geographic information of the current node, of the neighbor voids and of the sink. Our proposal relies on the mechanisms that discover voids, announce them and then maintain them. The first proposed protocol, called VT-SPEED, is based on an adaptive void-avoidance mechanism that considers both load of routing candidate nodes and their localization information. To make VT-SPEED energy-aware, we also propose new routines based on parameterized functions that handle routing dissipation energy : (a) dropping out-of-order packets and (b) load-balancing when choosing next hop of packets. The resulting protocol, called VE-SPEED, has satisfactory results which show that the proposed approach satisfies the real-time constraints of data flows, tolerates voids, preserves energy resources of boundary nodes, balances load between nodes and has optimal energy consumption

In the three papers of this thesis, I will consider three environments where firms' choices in a laissez-faire situation may be socially inefficient. The inefficiencies arise because of learning externalities, free riding when the innovation decision is made by a group of participants, or because firms are not willing to invest in a new activity that has a higher social than private value.
In the first thesis paper, I deal with the strategies of firms in innovative consumer product markets characterized by demand uncertainty. I analyze the timing and location decision of firms in that context.
In the second thesis paper, I consider the investment incentives of financial market infrastructures (FMIs). FMIs comprise the set of institutions that allow financial market participants to engage with each other. I assess the innovation incentives for different forms of ownership (user-owned versus third-party owned) and identify infrastructure service provision equilibria.
In the third thesis paper, I address the question of how a government should allocate a subsidy budget over time in order to maximize the innovation activity in an industry.

Graff, Philippe. "Caractérisation, identification dans le réseau et optimisation du transport de trafic à faible latence - le cas du Cloud-Gaming." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université de Lorraine, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023LORR0314.
This thesis focuses on the transport of low-latency traffic in networks, and in particular on Cloud Gaming (CG) services we selected as our case study. CG plaforms have gained much popularity recently and are expected to become a significant part of Internet traffic share in the upcoming years. However, the characteristics of their traffic, at the same time high bandwidth and low latency, are challenging for networks and make it difficult to maintain good quality of service (QoS) in degraded network conditions. We first analyze the traffic of four CG platforms to evaluate the capacity of adaptation and responsiveness of their congestion control algorithm (CCA). We synthetically lower the network conditions by impacting in turn the delay, jitter, loss rate and available bandwidth with different intensities, and observe the resulting traffic. Then, we study CG traffic on cellular networks by reproducing the conditions observed on the Orange 4G network, including a user mobility scenario. We noted a some disparities in the platforms' behavior. Some do not adapt adequately to the different constraints and are therefore exposed to long queuing delays, sometimes resulting in packet losses. Others overreact, to the detriment of their video quality. All of the data collected was made available to the community. Considering the limitations of end-to-end CCA, we propose to identify CG traffic in the network to make it benefit from an improved traffic processing, in particular at the level of queues which can induce latency in case of congestion. We have developed a classifier able to recognize CG traffic with high precision (98.5%) by relying on a machine learning approach featuring the statistical properties of CG traffic which are calculated on the fly. We propose an implementation of our classifier as a set of virtual network functions (VNF) that can handle 10Gb/s. In collaboration with Orange Labs, we also considered the acceleration of some functions on a programmable hardware switch in P4 and implemented the extraction of flow statistical features, which proves that a realistic deployment at an ISP level is possible. Finally, we propose to experiment the transport of CG traffic in a “Low Latency, Low Loss, and Scalable Throughput” (L4S) architecture. As current CG platforms are not compatible, we developed our own platform coupled with Scream, a CCA based on loss and delays for the RTP protocol and supporting explicit congestion notification (ECN). We propose to use it in conjunction with DualPI2, an active queue manager (AQM) with a low latency queue. We then monitor the traffic on the bottleneck against different competing flows. For the first time, we evaluate the performance of L4S against traditional traffic engineering approaches on a real low latency service

In this thesis, we propose to use the UWB technology to establish a new communications system Impulse Radio (IR-UWB), based on a new modulation scheme called M-OAM (Orthogonal M-Amplitude Modulation) and orthogonal waveforms MGF (Modified Gegenbauer Function). This system is dedicated to the short-range wireless applications, especially multimedia communications and intelligent transportation (ITS). The proposed modulations M-OAM, are evaluated under the AWGN channel and UWB multipath channel namely IEEE.802.15.3a and IEEE.802.15.4a. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed system in terms of bit error rate (BER) is the same as that of traditional UWB modulations. In addition, M-OAM modulations offer the highest data rate with low complexity of implementation. Indeed, the design of a such system should certainly provide a very high speed but also serve a large number of concurrent users with good quality of service. In this context, a new multiple access technique DS-MGF-OAM is proposed. This multi-user system makes use of the DS-UWB technology and orthogonal pulses MGF to enable effective communication with a maximum number of users. However, the multi-path effect reduces the quality of the transmission. Thus, the contribution of two receiver architectures in performance improvement is studied, namely the RAKE receiver and MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) equalizer. This study shows that the M-OAM communication system offers good performance in terms of quality of service (QoS). Following the simulation step, the experimental results of the proposed systems in real environments are analyzed and discussed. In the last part of this document, we performed a real-time protoptype on an FPGA platform, offering calculation time of 3GHz through parallelizable algorithms on reconfigurable architectures
