Full textThe solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology has been under research since thelate 1950s, and most of the research has been on designs utilizing yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) as the electrolyte of choice. However, the SOFC technology has the major drawback of requiring high operation temperatures (up to 1000 degrees Celcius), so research of alternative materials have come into interest that would possibly require a lower working temperature without any significant loss of conductivity. One such material of interest for the electrolyte is compounds of ceriumdioxide (ceria). Ceria is well known for its ability to release oxygen by formingoxygen vacancies under oxygen-poor conditions, which increases its oxygen ionconductivity, and works at a lower temperature than the YSZ compounds whenproperly doped. Conversely, ceria is also able to absorb oxygen under oxygen-rich conditions, and those two abilities make it a very good material to use in catalytic converters for reduction of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emission. The ability for the oxygen ions to easily relocate inbetween the different lattice sites is likely the key property of oxygen ion transportation in ceria. Also, in oxygen-rich conditions, the absorbed oxygen atom is assumed to join the structure at either the roomy octrahedral sites, or the vacant tetrahedral sites. Following that, the oxygen atom may relocate to other vacant locations, given it can overcome a possible potential barrier.
This thesis studies how those interstitial oxygen vacancies (defects) affect theenergy profile of ceria-based supercells by first principles calculations. The system is modeled within the density functional theory (DFT) with aid of (extended) local density approximation (LDA+U) using the software VASP. Furthermore, it is studied how those vacancies affect neighbouring oxygen atoms, and wether or not it is energetically benificial for the neighbouring atoms to readjust their positions closer or further away from the vacancy. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze wether or not it is theoretically possible that interstitial oxygen vacancies may cause neighbouring oxygen atoms to naturally relocate to the octahedral site in ceria, and how this affects the overall energy profile of the material.

Ceramics present excellent esthetic results and biocompatibility, although, they have undergone structural modifications with the intention of increasing their resistance and making them able to be used alone as a single restoration material, without the need to be coupled with metal. The CAD/CAM (computer assisted design/computer assisted manufacturing) technology was developed in 1971 by Francois Duret, and represents the application of computerized technology in the dentistry field. The CAD/CAM system basically functions in 3 steps: digitalization of the dental preparation, design and production of the restoration. The CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a CAD/CAM system first introduced in 1980 and has evolved to what is known today as the CEREC 3 chairside, which allows for inlays, onlays, veneers and crowns to be prepared and applied in only one visit. The CEREC chairside allows the mechanized production of all ceramic restorations from homogeneous blocks of feldspathic fully sintered ceramics. Relative to the studies mentioned in this thesis, the longevity of the restorations produced by the CEREC system display results with high long term success rates.

This dissertation consists of a fictional text (a novel called Cerra??o de choradeira) and a creation report. The novel aims to follow the steps of Death and her ?employees? (carpideiras), whose task is to mourn the dead ones in memorial services, most frequent without even knowing them. This story?s protagonist is Ast?cia, a lady from a family of migrants who mourns in an isolated location at the South of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul). Cerra??o de choradeira follows her path, her partnership with Death itself, and the effect that this particular relationship has on other characters? way to confronting the Inevitable. In order to obtain this broaden perspective, the novel tries to work with different points of view and storylines.
A protagonista ?

This dissertation focuses on the strategies of Invernada Paiol de Telha community members in the quest of recovering the land called Fundão, or Invernada Paiol de Telha. This land was donated to 13 slaves - ancestors of many among the community -, back to the year 1860, by their owner Balbina Francisca de Siqueira. According to the various actors involved in the land claim process, once the successors of those slaves were expelled of the land in the mid-seventies, they organized themselves in four different territorial bases or cores: the municipal districts of Guarapuava and Pinhão in Paraná; a settlement of INCRA, located in Colônia Socorro, district of Entre-Rios/PR; and the camp made by them on the outskirts of the lands claimed. Due to the segmentary aspect of the group, the strategies used in trying to regain the land always assume distinct dimensions, related to the different contexts in which their members are involved. These strategies reveal, create and recreate different ways of thinking about the group, their political strategies, their collectivity, and their history.
