Abstract:
INTRODUCTION & AIMS This study aimed to establish a low-cost, sustainable exercise program for cancer patients in Gippsland, Australia, where access to such programs was previously limited. By developing and implementing a collaborative program, the program aimed to improve the physical and psycho-social well-being of cancer patients while reducing burden on healthcare services. METHODS Collaboration between Latrobe Community Health Service, Morwell Leisure Centre, and Gippsland Integrated Cancer Service led to the development of a prescriptive exercise program to provide cancer survivors a sustainable cost-effective exercise and cancer program in a community leisure centre. Exercise physiologists provided initial assessments, in which clients allocated to group-based, one-on-one, or home-based exercise sessions. RESULTS After 12 weeks in the program, 100% of participants that had a reassessment improved on at least one physical test and all improved on a subjective measure like fatigue, depression, or self-worth. On average, they saw a 14.88% increase in leg strength, a 12.70% increase in grip strength, and a 16.65% increase in aerobic fitness. Additionally, they reported an average decrease in anxiety (10.96%), depression (1.59%), fatigue (6.09%), and reported illness symptoms (5.24%). Overall, participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the benefits of the program’s psycho-social support and the opportunity to exercise outside a healthcare setting. CONCLUSION Collaboration between healthcare and leisure centres can provide sustainable and cost-effective exercise programs for cancer patients, improving physical and psycho-social well-being while reducing healthcare burden. Participants valued the support, social interaction, and sense of belonging provided by the program.

Abstract:
Background: Primary health care approach in ENT health care delivery; has shown to be a budding strategy in alleviating the ENT disease burden in the rural of India, as evident from literature. However the impact of Psycho-social needs fulfillment associated with ENT diseases for achieving optimum ENT care has not been studied till now, which was the main issue addressed by this study. Methods: A Prospective study was done on needs of ENT patients in 6 villages (sampled randomly); in a catchment area of a rural health training centre (RHTC) of a Medical College in western Uttar Pradesh (Muzaffarnagar) from 1st January 2015 to 30th June 2016 by way of a Wellness Triangle approach of WHO exploring Physical, Social and Mental needs from ENT Specialist Services. All the needs of patients were studied by a Semi-structured Performa and data was analyzed by appropriate statistical software’s. Results: Among 384 patients, who attended ENT Specialist services at RHTC for 1.6 years- the majority of patients availing ENT care at RHTC were initially dissatisfied with Psycho-social support provided by ENT Specialists(77%,n=296). However when Psycho-social Component of Patients (n=311, 81%) were fulfilled by both ENT & Community Medicine faculties -the ENT Curative treatment % was higher (n=212, 55.2% vs. n=13, 3.3%, OR=9.8, RR=1.5) and this difference was also statistically significant( p<0.00001). Conclusions: Greater psycho-social support is needed by ENT patients; apart from focus on pure curative approach by otorhinolaryngologist. The full-filing of psycho-social needs of ENT patients, needs more attention by both ENT specialists and community physicians for delivering ENT care by primary health care approach.

Abstract:
Background: Cancer care has suffered during the covid-19 pandemic due to diversion of manpower to treat covid patients and introduction of lockdown measures. Delay in treatment is detrimental to cancer patients. During the national lockdown, many patients were not able to visit our treatment facility. We conducted this study to evaluate the detriment caused by the pandemic on cancer care in terms of disease progression and the socio economic factors associated with delay in presentation.Materials and Methods: Patients visiting our OPD who were being treated at our department and could not visit the facility during the lockdown were selected. Present status of the disease was assessed using clinical examination and radiological tests. Psycho social distress was assessed using PO BADO SF questionnaire. Disease progression, cause of delay was assessed against various factors like per capita family income, cost of transportation etc. Appropriate statistics was used to analyse and represent the data. Results: 50% patients had disease progression. “High cost of transportation” was the most common response given by patients for not visiting the treatment facility during the lockdown. Most patients being treated with radiotherapy (69%) had responded either “high cost of transportation” or “lack of proper accommodation” as cause of delay (p 0.065). Patients with treatment gap of 80 days or more had higher per capita family income, higher cost of transportation during the lockdown and larger distance between residence and treatment facility. 77.5% patients had psycho social distress according to assessment by PO BADO SF questionnaire. Conclusion: COVID 19 pandemic control measures have impacted cancer care in resulting in disease progression, treatment delays and psycho-social distress. A number of factors may have contributed to the treatment delays like high cost of transportation during the lockdown, longer distance between residence and hospital.

For the Nigerian government to achieve a united, strong, and self-reliant nation, some variables like the socio-economic status of the parents, costly textbooks, the problem of feeding allowances for students, the low motivation of teachers due to low salaries, expensive tuition fees, the unemployment of qualified subject teachers, the lack of teaching aids, insecurity, and so on needs to be considered. Above all, psycho-social variables on the part of the students equally needs to be considered. In line with this, the researcher deemed it fit to investigate psycho-social factors as predictors of disabled students’ academic achievement in General studies at the University of Ilorin. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for this study was all disabled University of Ilorin undergraduates. A questionnaire was used for data collection. Demographic characteristics of the respondents were described using percentages and the research question generated was answered using mean and rank order. All of the hypotheses formulated for this study were tested using the Mean, Standard Deviation, t-value and ANOVA. The hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The findings of this study revealed that there were no significant differences in the influence of psycho-social factors on disabled students’ achievement in General Studies on the basis of gender. In addition, findings revealed that there was no significant difference in the influence of psycho-social factors on disabled students’ achievement in General Studies on the basis of age. It was also found that there was no significant difference in the influence of psycho-social factors on disabled students’ achievement in General Studies on the basis of educational level. Furthermore, findings revealed that there was no significant difference in the influence of psycho-social factors on disabled students’ achievement in General Studies on the basis of the mode of entry. Hence, it was recommended that counselling units in the university should be made more accessible and friendly to disabled students so that they can easily visit the centre for guidance. With regard to their physiological, psychological and social development, more publicity is needed to create awareness for the stakeholders. Government and school management should ensure harmonious relationships for every disabled student regardless of their level or class. Abstract:
Physiological, psycho-social and emotional parameters are critical skill and technical performance motifs in sports endeavors. Despite their noteworthy basis for high-quality athletic efficiencies, training and psycho-social deficiencies are inevitable challenges for athletes in competitive locales. This prospective cohort study adopted the quantitative approach. Its population was 200 participants with a sample of 25 coaches and 50 players drawn from selected tertiary institution teams in Masvingo Province. Study participants were drawn using stratified random sampling. Its thrust was to establish the impact of COVID-19 for return-to-sport athletes during lockdown restrictions. Further, it explored cardiological implications of cardiopulmonary loading parameters among athletes with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-oriented pulmonary ailments and non-diseased group. An adapted updated version of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre questionnaire was used for data collection. Emerging findings revealed substantial disruption of training normalcy from lockdown restrictions. Players risked injury sustenance from solitude unsupervised workouts. Further, high cardiopulmonary loading intensities compromised health conditions of athletes with COPD-related ailments than the non-diseased group. Moreover, athletes reported major physiological and psycho-social retardation trends upon return-to-sport fora from COVID-19 lay-off restrictions. Creating online digital coaching bionetwork websites could substantially enhance ‘Work from Home’ training environments. Digital health support synergies through virtual tele-health conferences and video/zoom forums could further provide practical resolutions for athletes’ physiological and psycho-social parameters. Moderate to high intensity aerobic indoor training regimes could serve to attenuate retardation of quality skeletal tenacity and capacitate cardio-pulmonary activities from the effects of COVID-19 restrictions. SARS-oriented athletes require appropriately designed training regimes that are within their motoric aptitudes to avoid compromising their cardiopulmonary-related ailments. This allows for gradual alterations of physiological body processes from the onset of training workouts.

Abstract:
Sexual desire includes complex motivation and drive. In the context of biological and cognitive- emotive state art of science, it is often a neglected field in medicine. In regard to the treatment, study on women’s sexual function received less attention compared to the men’s sexuality. In the past, this endeavor was relatively not well disseminated in the scientific community. Recently, there was a revolutionized surge of drug targets available to treat women with low sexual desire. It is timely to review the relevant biological approach, especially in the context of pharmacotherapy to understand this interesting clinical entity which was modulated by numerous interactive psychosocial inter-play and factors. The complex inter-play between numerous dimensional factors lends insights to understand the neural mechanism, i.e. the rewards centre pathway and its interaction with external psychosocialstimulus, e.g. relationship or other meaningful life events. The function of hormones, e.g. oxytocin or testosterone regulation was described. The role of neurotransmitters as reflected by the introduction of a molecule of flibenserin, a full agonist of the 5-HT1A and partial agonist of the D4 to treat premenopausal women with low sexual desire was deliberated. Based on this fundamental scientific core knowledge, we suggest an outline on know-how of introduction for sex therapy (i.e. “inner-self” and “outer-self”) where the role of partner is narrated. Then, we also highlighted on the use of pharmacological agent as an adjunct scope of therapy, i.e. phosphodiasterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors and hormonal treatment in helping the patient with low sexual desire.

SummaryThe haemophilia treatment centre of the Clinic for Children and Youth Medicine in Jena extends medical care by health-promotion measures, namely: health counselling, adjuvant exercise therapy and school sports. In addition to the regular medical checks at the treatment centre patients are examined regarding physical fitness, joint situation, quality of life in general and disease-specific manner, as well as psycho-social and nutritional behaviour. Findings and medical results of the examinations are integrated into an individual advice on therapy, school sports, and health recommendations. This aimed at strengthening health-related resources and minimizing potential injuries. First long-term evaluation shows an increase of activity behaviour and physical fitness without increasing bleeding rate and maintained joint function. Conclusion: Combining functional prevention diagnostics and individual health counselling shows signs of improved patient’s health knowledge, self-competence and physical fitness.

Abstract:
Background The state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo in East Malaysia, in working towards developing and strengthening cancer services through a holistic patient-centred approach, must focus on the comprehensive needs of cancer patients by taking into account the psycho-social, cultural and spiritual aspects of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population. Methods A 42-item survey questionnaire was developed and validated with a total of 443 patients. The perceived importance of information provided and level of patient satisfaction were assessed with a 5-point Likert scale in 10 domains (Diagnosis, Surgery, Radiotherapy, Systemic therapy, Clinical trials, Pain management, Treatment monitoring, Psychosocial support, Sexual care and fertility issues, and Financial support). A Spearman’s rank correlation test was applied to determine the correlation between response in both item and domain categories for perceived importance and satisfaction. Results Overall, patients were more satisfied with information related to cancer diagnosis, treatment and surgery but less satisfied with information pertaining to sexual aspects of care and family planning, psycho-social support and financial support. The majority of patients were satisfied with the level of treatment-related information received but preferred the information to be delivered in more easily comprehendible formats. Sexual aspects of care and family planning, psychosocial support and treatment monitoring post-discharge were perceived as important but seldom addressed by health care professionals due to lack of professional counsellors, social workers and clinical nurse specialists. Many patients face financial toxicity following a cancer diagnosis, particularly when diagnosed with advanced cancer requiring complex multi-modality treatment. Conclusion Cancer patients in Sarawak have various unmet information needs. Written information and educational videos in local indigenous languages may be more suitable for Sarawak’s multi-ethnic population. Sexual aspects of care and family planning are challenging but essential topics to discuss, in particular due to the high prevalence of breast and cervical cancer amongst young women of reproductive age in Sarawak. Financial assessment and information on support services offered by government and non-government organisations should be provided to eligible patients. A holistic needs assessment of each patient at time of diagnosis and support through their cancer journey requires a multi-disciplinary team of medical, nursing and allied health professionals including clinical nurse specialists, pharmacists, counsellors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dieticians and social workers.

Abstract:
IntroductionThe problem of children's mental health in Ukraine – it is one of the most pressing problems in the country's health. This is due to the increasing number of extreme situations (military operations in the territory of Ukraine) for the last time that calls for the training of specialists capable of carrying out psychosocial rehabilitation to victims of “anti-terrorist operation”(ATO).ObjectivesThe mental and behaviour disorders in children affected of ATO. We studied 261 families: 107 adults and 154 children. The aim of the project was to optimize the provision of psycho-social support for children and adolescents with problems of the psychic sphere by developing a system of psychological adjustment and social education at the Centre for psychosocial rehabilitation of children, as well as the creation of the necessary conditions that expand the comfort and a safe space for the child to enhance positive impacts and mitigate negative impacts of the social environment.MethodsThe leading role was played by a combination of two areas of work, namely the psychocorrection (trainings, art-, individual-, family-, hyppo-therapy) and social work.ResultsIn 85.4% of the children showed stabilization of mental and emotional state, reducing aggression, increasing motivation to social activity. In 56.3% of families – reducing conflict relations.ConclusionsThe non-standard way of psycho-correction allowed organizing a fruitful and creative leisure, which resulted in the reduction of aggression and anxiety, increased motivation for the successful development of new activities and problem-solving skills and conflict situations with peers and family members.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
Psychological and pedagogical counselling is a multidimensional activity that is permanently inscribed in the school environment. The main goal of counselling in schools is to recognise educational, emotional and social needs of adolescents as well as to offer them support in solving problems and contribute to a perfect realisation of harmony in their development. Changes in pupils’ characteristics, emerging technologies, and paradigm shifts in the disciplines themselves predict unique opportunities and challenges for the future. In this paper I aim to present the activity of the psycho-pedagogical centres in a new perspective which is much more efficient and explicitly includes counselling actions and psychological support for pupils, their parents and teachers. The model under discussion brings many benefits in the field of counselling activity within the school at different levels. Therefore, it contributes to a higher level of effectiveness of psycho-pedagogical activities. The relations with the families and teachers are an important element of the presented counselling activity. The family’s involvement in school life is achieved through participation in parents’ meetings, lectures, main teaching classes or in any other activity from or outside the curriculum. In intervention situations a specialist’s role is to guide the parents with the aim of modelling their children’s behaviour. The groups of specialists are not only permanently attentive to pupils’ needs but their emotional, social and behavioural problems as well. The specialist has a double role in the school environment: a preventive and an intervention role in order to deal with the above mentioned situations and difficulties. The presented article also includes an example of such a model in one of the schools.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background: Psychological support for chronically ill patients as an integral component of medical care could improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients and contribute to a reduction in treatment costs. A meta-analysis including almost 3,000 patients revealed that persons with hemophilia (PWH) are at increased risk for depression, anxiety, and ADHD compared to the general population (Al-Huniti et al., 2020). Studies have shown that the self-efficacy, coping mechanisms, and HRQoL of parents of hemophilic children were improved by self-help programs, and depression, anxiety, and parenting stress were reduced. Although different psychological interventions have been used to help PWH to cope with their psychological problems, there is a gap between patients' need for psychosocial support from the perspective of health care professionals (HCPs) and their utilization by PWH. The aim of the ILLUSTRATE study was to assess the need for psychosocial support and medical care in patients with inherited bleeding disorders (IBD) and in HCPs and their use in hemophilia centers. Methods: Patients with IBD (PIBD) were invited by different German patient organizations (Deutsche Bluthilfe, DHG, IGH, Hämophilie 2000) to participate in an on-line surevey (from December 2022-June 2023). In addition, HCPs were asked to complete a similar on-line survey via the mailing list of the German Society for Thrombosis and Hemostaseology. A positive ethical approval for the study was obtained by the Local Psychological Ethics Committee at the University Medical Centre in Hamburg, Germany (LPEK-0578). The questionnaire for patients consisted of the following aspects: socio-demographic data, medical background, care services and psycho-social support, dealing with stress and difficult situations, dealing with special situations that may arise or be exacerbated by the bleeding disorder, offer of psycho-social counseling/support, and need for expansion. The questionnaire for HCPs contained the following themes: personal background, need of patients for psycho-social counseling/support (PSCS), supply of PSCS and need for expansion, utilization, and benefits of PSCS. Results: In total, 154 patients and parents of children with an IBD participated (72 PIBD,80 parents, 2 others) with a mean age of 41.06±13.3 years, 60.4% were female. In addition, 65 HCPs completed the respective survey (34 physicians, 27 nurses and 4 others) with a mean age of 48.11 ± 12.7 years, in average they worked since 13.1±10.8 years in haemostaseology, 78.5% worked in a hemophilia comprehensive care center (HCCC), 20% in a hemophilia treatment center (HTC) and 1.5% in a homecare service. In the IBD group (patients, parents) most were married (59.1%), lived with a partner (83.8%) and worked full- or part-time (66%). Most PIBD had hemophilia (74%) with a severe form (81.8%). 28.6% of the IBD group felt little to not at all supported to overcome psycho-social challenges. It was demonstrated that they had an intermediate stress resilience (14.76±3.1), with 1/3 showing a low resilience. When asking what coping strategies they used in stress situations, 26% mentioned that they ignore difficult situations and 16% compensated their stress with drugs and alcohol. 20% often to always felt helpless and overwhelmed due to their IBD and 31% rarely to never received support in these situations. 71% reported to have a need for PSCS, 57% wished more support services (69% mainly at the HTC), 71% felt not to have enough information about these services and 64% would use them more often if they were more accessible. 52% of HCPs found that the IBD group has a need of PSCS, they assumed that parents and adolescent patients would benefit most of these services and expected the highest advantage from psychological counseling. 60% thought that there is a need for information and education. The IBD group and HCPs preferred PSCS in presence, the IBD group would use services as well via phone or digital. Conclusions: Although offered psycho-social support programs are rarely used by patients, a large proportion of the IBD group and HCPs confirmed a need for it. Increased accessibility to PSCS and more information were identified as a factor for increased use of this support programs. Additional digital psycho-social support services were desired and represent a helpful alternative if services are not available on site.

Abstract:
Therapeutic intervention on drug addiction with a spirituality approach is interesting to pursue since many studies have produced various results. The focus of this study is on psycho-spiritual problems on individuals who had experienced drug addiction. The problems are loss of awareness and mind, physical and mental weakness, anti-social behaviors and problems in the school. Thus, a more in-depth study of the role of spirituality on this problem in increasing mentality, conscious mind and behaviors as a normal personality. To accomplish this, the researchers explored four individuals who had recovered from an addiction and had undergone Islamic therapeutic intervention at Inabah Centre in Tasikmalaya and Madani Health Care in Jakarta, Indonesia. The findings revealed that they gained enlightenment and consciousness, were reflective and regretful, had self-confidence and were persistent in doing good deeds after going through the recovery process. All aspects of the findings were generated into four themes, namely reflection feeling (RF), insight awareness (IA), expression attitude (EA), and brightness image (BI). Some aspects of psycho-spiritual from Islamic perspective were also explained in the discussion to make it a valuable force in preventing, treating and handling the addiction in society.

Abstract:
CASE SETTING This study implemented a standardized exercise program for oncology patients in the Latrobe Valley region of Gippsland, Australia, aiming to assess its potential transferability to other regions. This was undertaken due to a lack of structured services available in Gippsland, limiting patient access to these programs, in which patients having to travel up to 2 hours for treatment in Melbourne. TREATMENT Implementation of a standardized exercise program for oncology patients, developed by a multidisciplinary team of exercise physiologists, oncology health professionals, and leisure centre fitness professionals. Exercise Physiologists conducted initial assessments and patients were placed in either individual, group exercise sessions and/or home-based programs. RESULTS The program demonstrated significant improvements in both physical and psychological well-being. The program has received 73 referrals, of which 48 participants completed initial assessments with an Exercise Physiologist. Of the remaining 25 participants, 2 were discharged to other services due to their location outside the program’s jurisdiction, 18 withdrew or did not attend their appointments, and 5 are currently on the waitlist for assessment. At the time of data collection, 17 participants had completed their reassessments.100% of participants improved on at least one physical test, and all participants improved on one of their subjective measures (fatigue, depression, anxiety, self-worth). Additionally, participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the program’s psycho-social support and the benefits of exercising outside a healthcare setting. REFLECTIONS/LEARNINGS This program successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of collaboration between healthcare services and leisure centres in delivering sustainable exercise programs for oncology patients outside of the healthcare setting. It also highlighted the value of providing both physical and psycho-social support, with the inclusion of care coordinators significantly reducing burdens on health services. The program’s success suggests strong potential for transferability to other regions.

Abstract:
The aim of the presented paper is to analyze the approaches to the non-pharmaceutical rehabilitation of the drug addicts based on the example of the Social and Rehabilitative Centre «Roza Vetrov» of the municipal pedagogic institution «Podrostok». The following rehabilitative approaches were used: (1) labor and environmental rehabilitation; (2) group and family psychotherapy; (3) different trainings; (4) supported employment and workplace accommodation. Destigmatization is an obligatory psychotherapeutical procedure starting the rehabilitation. Rehabilitative environment is a special micro social group with adjusted behavior. Trainings are a complex of psycho corrective procedures with different targets. Adaptive psychotherapy is the necessary part of the rehabilitation and bringing the patients back to the micro social group they are used to be a member of. Family psychotherapy is performed by discussing the problems of co-abuse, possible options of manipulative behavior in drug addicts and their families. At the stage of workplace accommodation and professional orientation behavior modes are formed, necessary for successful entry into the professional labor.

The main objective of this paper is to examine the results of an observational study on the use of Facebook by adolescents in an informal context. The authors describe the preliminary results of the research and analyze the significant variables that contribute to improve the current, important debate about the social network as a source of information and knowledge in the matching of learning in informal and formal contexts. The above analysis is the premise for the illustration of the potential and advantages that could follow from the use of social networking in everyday teaching. The core problem of the renewal of teaching today is in fact the centre of the debate on an integrated use of ICT in teaching-learning process as re-structuring factor of the action learning systems in formal settings with respect to the cognitive, affective, socio-relational and psycho-motor taxonomic components and implications.

AbstractAims:To identify and describe the context and factors involved in the opioid lapse process following discharge from an Irish inpatient opioid detoxification treatment programme.Design, participants, setting:Prospective follow-up study of consecutive detoxified opioid dependent patients treated in a specialist inpatient drug dependency unit.Measurements:The Maudsley Addiction Profile and a structured interview were administered to 109 patients, 18–36 months after discharge.Findings:Of 109 people interviewed at follow-up, 102 (94%) reported at least one episode of opioid use after leaving the residential treatment programme. Eighty eight patients (86% of the lapsers) identified more than one major factor contributing to their recidivism. The median number of factors identified as having a major role in the lapse was four. The most frequently reported major contributors to lapse were low mood (62%), difficulties with craving (62%), ease of access to heroin (48%) and missing the support of the treatment centre (43%).Conclusions:Early lapse was common following inpatient treatment of opioid dependence. Lapse tended to result from a number of common, identifiable, high-risk situations, feelings and cognitions which may assist clinicians and patients develop lapse prevention strategies to anticipate and interrupt this process.

Abstract:
Role of human behaviour in mitigating climate change, controlling Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, reducing carbon footprint leading to sustainable development, is at the centre of all policy discussions across the globe, thereby tailoring human behaviour is considered imperative by contemporary scholarship. This study attempts to understand the psycho-social interaction of individuals that promote such a human action. Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) framework has been used to predict human behaviour assuming human behaviour for energy conservation is one of the pro-social low-cost behaviour. Value orientation of individuals, energy conservation beliefs, subjective norms, perceived behaviour control, and energy conservation attitude have been measured to gauge the behavioural intention, along with capturing the socio-economic realities pertaining to households and individuals therein. Awareness towards energy conservation efforts and social interaction are found to be key behaviour influencers, whereas energy conservation intent is found to be gender neutral. Study implies the underlying necessity to explore mediating and moderating models in order to decipher complex inter-play among key variables for predicting energy conservation behaviour intent.

Abstract:
This article is a response to Lansbury’s call (2009) in this journal for a re-conceptualization of work and employment. It supports Lansbury’s belief that the employment relationship cannot be understood in isolation from wider social change. Building on the tradition of emotional labour and aesthetic labour, this study introduces theoretically and empirically the concept of “ocularcentric labour” (the worker seeking the adoring gaze of the client as the primary employment reward). This paper seeks to establish: the empirical generalizability of ocularcentric labour; its conceptual differentiation with aesthetic and emotional labour; and the implications of ocularcentric labour for industrial relations and collective interest representation. Through a study of the employment relationship in the commercial health and fitness industry in Queensland (Australia), we identify this new type of labour as one in which the worker’s primary goal is to seek the psycho-social rewards gained from exposing their own body image. This quest shapes the employment relationship (both the organization of work and the conditions of employment). We argue that for many fitness workers the goal is to gain access to the positional economy of the fitness centre to promote their celebrity. For this they are willing to trade-off standard conditions of employment and direct earnings, and exchange traditional employment rewards for the more intrinsic psycho-social rewards gained through the exposure of their physical capital to the adoration of their gazing clients. As one worker said “You don’t do this for money.” Significantly, with ocularcentric labour the worker becomes both the site of production and consumption. The study draws on quantitative and qualitative data captured from the Australian health and fitness industry with one snapshot taken in 1993 and another in 2008. The conclusion draws together the key conceptual and empirical points and findings and examines the implications for the conceptualization of IR in the contemporary economy.

This cross-sectional multi-centre study explored how family members and friends of illicit drug users perceived protective and risk factors, treatment facilities and policies and laws regarding illicit drug use. Family members and friends of illicit drug users were recruited in 10 urban health care outpatient units in 7 Latin American countries (Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico) to complete a questionnaire. The majority of the respondents chose psycho-social factors over genetic or biological explanations as causes of drug problems. Respondents felt that families and governments were responsible for preventing drug problems. Church/religious institutions were most often mentioned in the context of accessible treatment. When asked about access to treatment facilities, the majority said that there were not enough. Shame about drug use, cost, and limited treatment options were most often cited as barriers to treatment.

IntroductionChildren's abuse and neglect is widely studied as a major risk factor for emotional and behavioural disorders, various somatic and psychiatric problems during adulthood.ObjectiveMental health is fundamental to health. Mental illnesses are real, disabling conditions affecting all populations regardless of race or ethnicity but disparities in mental health services exist for racial and ethnic minorities, and thus, mental illnesses exact a greater toll on their overall health and productivity.AimThe most important aim when working with ethnic minorities is to better understand the roles of culture, race and ethnicity, and overcome obstacles that would keep anyone with mental health problems from seeking or receiving effective treatment.MethodsThe Day Centre “The House of the Child” is a community unit which provides customized clinical mental health services for therapeutic treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation of children victims of abuse, neglect or domestic violence. The Day Centre was founded by the non-profit voluntary organization “THE SMILE OF THE CHILD”. The services are based on the bio-psycho-social model approach and treatment, which aim at early detection, and treatment of possible mental disorders and the overall psychosocial rehabilitation of victims of abuse/neglect and the support of their carers.ResultsBy identifying the many barriers to quality care faced by racial and ethnic minorities, the Day Center provides mental health services also to children who come from minority populations.ConclusionsDifferent case studies highlight challenges and various levels of difficulties in this specific scheme of cooperation aiming to open an interesting dialogue on the topic.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Pakistan because of its geographical location became a front line state in the war against terror since the attack on the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001. Pakistan decided to align with USA to combat the fundamentalist. It’s a war whose main purpose is to save people from terrorism but now lives of Pakistan own citizens are at stake. Innocent citizens have become the targets of deadly attacks. It has resulted in much more loss of lives than 9/11 attack. One obvious and tragic price of this open war is the toll of death and destruction. But there is an additional cost, a psychological cost borne by the survivors of war. The civilian population, and the children who have lost their parents in this war are the real casualties we need to take into consideration. This article will highlight the psycho-social aspects of war which could not achieve peace yet.

Abstract Providing physical accessibility to the city centre is crucial in ensuring that everyone has equal access to employment, health care, education and social life. There should be no exclusionary or discriminatory practices that prevent anyone, including disabled people or OKU (from the Malay ‘Orang Kurang Upaya’) from participating in society. However, evidence from numerous studies shows that OKU has fewer opportunities to participate in built environment activities than non-disabled people due to inaccessible design. Even though OKU’s inclusion is linked to having access to the physical space, little effort has been given to exploring OKU’s life experience in reaching the city centre. The original research was aimed to investigate the physical accessibility of Kuala Lumpur city centre, as an example of a city in transition, and its effects on OKU’s inclusion. However, this paper focuses only on demonstrating a go-along interview as one of the primary data gathering methods employed in the first author’s doctoral thesis. The qualitative research design includes twenty go-along interviews with participants with limited mobility in order to learn about their real-life experience travelling to the city centre. With the current access and facilities provided, mobility-impaired travelers, particularly wheelchair users, still require assistance to reach their destination. In general, the mobility-impaired travelers confronted physical obstacles in gaining access to buildings and the internal circulation and services, negotiating barriers at street level and using various transportation modes to reach places. The go-along journeys also demonstrated that OKU faces attitudinal barriers and psycho-emotional disablism in addition to physical barriers, which may contribute to exclusion.

Abstract:
AbstractThe East of Germany, the Bundesländer of the former GDR, is an important centre of Goth activity. The Goth scene is remarkably large in this part of Germany, and one of the most important yearly Goth festivals, the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, takes place in Leipzig. This article investigates the specific characteristics and internal dynamics of East German Goth subcultures after German reunification. Combining subcultural theory and Gothic criticism with Derrida's notions of spectrality and hauntology, the potentials of Gothic as a form of cultural criticism are explored in an investigation of the psycho-social wasteland of the undead GDR. It will be argued that post-Cold War unification has not only led to a new political order, but has also given rise to a new type of Gothicism, as East German Goth subculture is haunted by ‘spectres of Marx’ that provide a critical engagement with globalised capital and media. As a specifically German version of the worldwide Goth scene, moreover, it marks the local boundedness of globalised subcultures.

Abstract:
The issue of intermingling mentally lucid individuals and confused patients with behaviour problems has been a serious concern for the long-term care facility from the standpoints of the resident, relatives and staff. Efforts at Maimonides Hospital Geriatric Centre in Montreal have included “relationship therapy” (i.e., the relationship between the resident and staff members) to preserve the resident's self-esteem. Also, homogeneous groups of lucid and confused residents have been formed to help each take part in appropriate social activities. Lucid residents also are encouraged to attend weekly meetings with both professional and non-professional staff working on their floor. A staff psychiatrist experienced in psycho-pharmacology has significantly improved the problems created by intermingling these two groups. The psychiatrist also has helped staff reduce the stress caused by intermingling. In addition, staff members meet with relatives before and after admission of applicants to alleviate and discuss their concerns. Nevertheless, Maimonides and other long-term care institutions face the problem of how to reduce the damage of intermingling these two groups of residents.

Abstract:
IntroductionPatients with cancer often suffer from considerable distress. Life review is a process of recalling, evaluating and integrating life experiences to alleviate a sense of despair and achieve self-integrity. Empirical data have supported the fact that life review is an effective psychological intervention, but it is not always accessible to patients with cancer. There is little evidence of internet-based life review programmes tailored to patients with cancer. This study aims to develop a WeChat-based life review programme and evaluate its effectiveness on the psycho-spiritual well-being of patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods and analysisA single-centre randomised parallel group superiority design will be used. Patients with cancer will be randomised, to either a control group, or to an experimental group receiving a 6-week WeChat-based life review programme. The programme, which was mainly developed based on Erikson’s psycho-social development theory and Reed’s self-transcendence theory, provides synchronous and asynchronous communication modes for patients to review their life. The former is real-time communication, providing an e-life review interview guided by a facilitator online. The latter is not simultaneously dialogic and is used to interact with patients before and after a life review interview through Memory Prompts, Review Extraction, Mind Space and E-legacy products. The primary outcomes include anxiety, depression and self-transcendence, and the secondary outcomes are meaning in life and hope. These will be measured at baseline, and immediately, at 3 months, and at 6 months after the programme’s conclusion.Ethics and disseminationEthics approval has been obtained from the Biological and Medical Research Ethics Committee of the corresponding author’s university (IRB Ref No: 2016/00020). The trial results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at national and international conferences.Trial registration numberChiCTR-IOR-17011998.

Abstract:
Background: South African Mental Health Care (MHC) legislation advocates for supportive rehabilitative services in Primary Health Care (PHC) settings. PHC settings are often understaffed and MHC nurses in these settings overburdened with high patient loads. Alternative cost-effective psycho-social intervention strategies must be explored to supplement the overstrained MHC sector to meet the rehabilitative and supportive needs of service users in community settings. Using a social constructionist epistemology, this study aimed to highlight the value of a community-based support group for MHC users at a Tshwane District Community Health Centre. This was done by exploring the meaning group members attached to the group. The intervention was a collaborative partnership between a local University Psychology Department and the Department of Health, Tshwane District, utilising post-graduate psychology students as group facilitators. Methods: Qualitative research methods were applied. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and a collage-making and storytelling method. Thematic analysis highlighted the main themes representing the meaning the five participants ascribed to the group. Results: The findings suggest that the group offered the participants a sense of belonging and a means of social and emotional support. The group also created opportunity for learning, encouraged mental and physical mobilisation and stimulation, and served as an additional link to professional services. Conclusion: The findings suggest that student-facilitated support groups could offer a viable supplement for offering support to service users in PHC settings. The group assisted MHC users to cope with symptoms, social integration, and participating in meaningful activities as part of rehabilitation services.

Abstract:
Introduction:Ramon y Cajal Hospital is the referencial center for the mental health unit used in this study, whose outpatients are attended by psychiatrist consultants. First assessment is conducted by general practicioners, or other specialists. Once assessed, a decision must be made: to follow-up, carry out psychological therapies, refer to social workers or other resources. Objectives:To investigate socio-demographic and clinical profiles at the psychiatric outpatients unit as a result of an analysis of the first assessment data. Methods:We include 9 variables from 104 first assessments carried out in our center.Results:48,27 is the age range of our sample, with 58,65% female and 50,1 % married. Most referrals are requested by primary care, being only 14,42% by psychiatric ward units and other medical specialities. Anxiety is the primary reason for requiring psychiatric care (36, 54%) and affective disorders (35,58%), followed by psychosomatic events. With respect to diagnosis at first consultation, we found, as expected, that the most frequent disorders are anxiety (37,50 %) and depression (32,69%).71,15% of our patients needed a follow up by us and 8,65 % are discharged after the first assessment. The rest are reffered to other mental health resources. Conclusions:As a result of the analysis we found out that minor pathology is the most common reason for care in our centre, being refered mostly by general practicioners. So psycho educational programmes and continuous training in general medicine could be needed in order to improve mental health and to reduce costs of the mental health system.

Abstract:
Psicologia do trabalho. Funcionários. Potencialidades. Agentes sociais. Instituição.AbstractFocusing on the laborers’ and technicians’ staff, the psycho-social intervention project aimed to promote an awareness of the self potential of each individual worker, reinforcing their strengths and recognizing their weaknesses and, by that, promote a reflection about the means of improving, by concrete actions, their effectiveness in the institution, establishing the delimitations of their own functions. The project was held in a Shelter Center for Women – Centro de Acolhida Especial para Mulheres (CAE) –, in São Paulo. The general target of this study was to understand the interrelations of work inside the CAE and analyze how the subjectivity of each worker influence the operation of the institution. The study consists of a Case Study, exploratory and of qualitative analysis characteristics. The techniques used were observation, interviews and group dynamics. The results of the study show that the workers are divided, some of them accepting the current management and others, being recently arrived or appointed by the management, identify oneself with the new propositions and have more satisfaction. The importance of this intervention was, by an exercise of self reflexion of the workers, to help them in avoiding contradictions in name of a group cohesion and a healthier work space. Keywords: Shelter Centre.
