Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To gather information about cytomegalovirus (CMV) prevention and treatment practices in bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in Canada.DESIGN: A questionnaire was mailed to all centres across Canada performing BMT in January 1998. A second mailing was sent three months later.POPULATION STUDIED: Data on 15 centres performing allogeneic BMT (total patients 459) and 16 centres (total patients 703) performing autologous BMT were obtained.RESULTS: For allogeneic BMT, all donors and recipients had pretransplant CMV serology performed. Nine centres gave CMV-negative blood to only donor-negative/recipient-negative patients, four centres to all patients and two centres to other subgroups. All allogeneic BMT centres had a strategy for CMV prevention. Three centres used universal ganciclovir prophylaxis, while 12 centres used some form of pre-emptive ganciclovir therapy based on weekly antigenemia assays (four centres), weekly polymerase chain reaction (two centres), CMV blood cultures (one centre), CMV throat and urine cultures (one centre), CMV screening bronchoscopy (two centres), or a combination of antigenemia plus bronchoscopy (two centres). The dose and duration of pre-emptive ganciclovir varied considerably from centre to centre. In addition, many centres used high dose acyclovir universally for a variable period of time post-BMT. For the treatment of CMV pneumonia, 14 centres used ganciclovir plus immunoglobulin (IG) and one centre used ganciclovir alone. Ganciclovir treatment duration ranged from two to 11 weeks and the number of doses of IG from three to 18. Thirteen of 16 autologous BMT centres screened patients for CMV pretransplant. Ten centres used CMV negative blood for some or all of their patients. Only one centre performed routine CMV monitoring after autologous BMT.CONCLUSIONS: Practices for the prevention of CMV disease in BMT patients differ widely across centres, and further data may assist in developing a consensus regarding the optimal approach to CMV management.

Abstract:
There is a growing international interest in the use of crime prevention responsibility centres (Re) as mechanisms for organizing crime prevention initiatives. One model of RC-based crime prevention is that used in England and Wales, where the creation of CDRPs (municipal RCs) was mandated by the Crime and Disorder Act of 1998. Themes gleaned from analyses of this experience form the basis for this thesis. In 2005, Crime Prevention Ottawa (CPO) was created to be an RC in Ottawa. This thesis examines whether and how CPO faced challenges similar to those in England and Wales. It concludes that many challenges met by the English experience are not present in the CPO case, in response to the challenges that are experienced, it recommends that CPO: define 'community', and its political 'role'; sustain project funding; increase project proposal expectations; and discuss what the organization 'does' versus 'should do'.

Abstract:
Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária
There is an increasing understanding that lack of biosecurity and antimicrobial resistance are crucial points in animal production and the Animal Health Law emphasizes these two aspects. By implementing a questionnaire based on Biocheck from Ghent University‟s biosecurity assessment, this project aimed to make a characterization of dairy farms‟ biosecurity in North and Centre of Portugal, it aimed to create a biosecurity index, evaluate possible risk factors, characterize antibiotics use and create a tool that allows veterinarians to help and advise farmers. The questionnaire was implemented in 151 dairy farms through personal interview and through Googleforms; a report was built and sent to the veterinarians that participated in the project. The biosecurity aspects present in both questionnaire and final report are related to animal purchase, reproduction management, hygiene and disinfection, people and animal movements, health, calving, calf, adult animals, dairy and feed and drinking water management, with one group also added for antibiotic and vaccine use. A difference was observed between total biosecurity scores that went from 42 to 80.4 (in 100 points) and external and internal biosecurity mean scores of 71.3 and 67.7 (in 100 points) respectively. Variables with bigger influence in biosecurity scores were the ones related to the use of individual protective equipment, hands hygiene, cleaning of calving and sick pens and putting animals in quarantine. Regarding antibiotics‟ use, every farm treated animals with antibiotics, but only 47.4% had an antibiotic protocol for its responsible use. This means that there is still a lot to improve regarding biosecurity and awareness regarding the use of antibiotics, although a bigger sample should be taken to make a more reliable and significant characterization.

Corruption is a global problem, which poses a serious threat to the development of countries and their people. Although its impact varies, all nations are facing the evils of corruption and, therefore, the international community calls upon states to take preventive and deterrent measures against corruption. For example, the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AU Convention) obligate their member states to have both legal and institutional frameworks for effectively fighting corruption.

Abstract:
Abstract Stuck pipe incidents remain as one of the major problems in the drilling industry. The incidents will lead to expensive loss time in daily spread cost, bottom hole assembly cost, sidetracking cost as well as fishing cost. The Wells Augmented Stuck Pipe (WASP) Indicator, a state-of-the-art machine learning technology that seamlessly integrates with PETRONAS existing technologies, is introduced as the stuck pipe prevention detection system for the company. Historical real-time drilling data and stuck pipe incidents reports between 2007 and 2019 are used for the development of machine learning models. The models utilize key drilling parameters such as hookload and equivalent circulating density (ECD) to predict and analyze trends to detect any signature pattern anomalies for various stuck pipe events. The prediction and alarm are displayed in real-time monitoring software to trigger the operation team for prompt intervention. The WASP solution has demonstrated proven outcomes using historical and live well with high confidence in detecting stuck pipe incidents due to differential sticking, hole cleaning, and wellbore geometry. The WASP Indicator is envisaged to provide the company with cutting edge advantages in the industry. It is expected that the system will reduce the identification period and improve the reaction time of the monitoring specialists in recognizing the stuck pipe symptoms and highlighting potential incidents. The system is also bringing value to the company via non-productive time (NPT) cost avoidance and identification of early onset of various stuck pipe events based on distinct mechanisms. With the system, the existing portfolio value can be enhanced via setting dynamic trends and models into historical experiences context. The WASP Indicator is aspired to be the forefront innovation that will leap through the norm and lead the region in a greater plan of drilling automation system.
