Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to examine whether real option valuation techniques can be used by cellular telecommunication operators in South Africa when making capital investment decisions in next-generation service-orientated architectures. Prior studies, in other parts of the world, recommend the use of real option valuation techniques by telecommunication operators when conducting capital budgeting. In this study, both Black-Scholes and Binomial models are used to examine their effectiveness in valuing capital investments within a cellular telecommunication industry in South Africa. Results show that real option valuation techniques are effective in analysing investments in cellular telecommunication industry. Their strengths are mostly demonstrated when determining the value of strategic options that are added to traditional (base-case) net present value. Summary and conclusions are provided.

Abstract:
Due to the advancement of telecommunication platform, users are now demanding high performance application. Propagation models play a vital role in the characterization and design of wireless and mobile communications networks. However, if they are utilized in a different environment than the one they were formulated for, propagation path-loss models may produce unacceptable deviation in predictions. Nowadays every mobile service provider continues to build a telecommunications tower with little regard for its impact on the area function. This paper presents the cellular network planning in the district of Bukit Raya, Pekanbaru. From the field survey, there are found sixty-two (62) cell sites. This number is extremely large compared to the calculated one. From the theory, only twenty-five (25) cell sites are required. Thus, it was found inappropriate deployment cell sites.

Abstract:
Providing efficient yet cost effective telecommunication systems to Aboriginal people living in remote locations has proven to be a challenging task. This is primarily due to low population density and distance from major service centres. Extending high-capacity telecommunications infrastructure to these people would incur high costs of installation, maintenance and administration without significant financial returns. The cost of services such as cabled phone lines to all houses, satellite and wireless cellular networks are often unaffordable for people in remote settlements, and, as a result, the provision of telecommunication services is often subsidised by the government. New wireless standards and products are being developed which could provide broadband-type network connections to large areas at an affordable price. This paper describes these new standards and products and their potential applications in rural and remote regions. There is also a comparison of their transmission requirements, cost, performance and coverage with several currently available technologies.

Abstract:
Retaining existing customer has been considered to be one of the most critical challenges for telecommunication service providers than for attracting new ones. In telecommunication, the service offered is different from that of a general commodity sale as in the former case the service is considered to be a continuous process, wherein the service provider can offer the differentiated services throughout the customer’s tenure. This differentiation in service offered creates a demarcation from the competitors and hence establishes competitive advantage for that service provider for attracting new customers and retaining the existing ones, which ultimately determines the profitability. In this paper, the author captures this differentiation factor by investigating customer switching behavior under Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in Indian telecommunication market. It is shown that only limited attention has been paid to the customer churn under MNP and none of the existing studies incorporated psychological constructs as the determinants of customer churn. In this context, the study used discriminant analysis to understand the factors that best discriminate between switchers and non-switchers and predict (develop a churn prediction model) the customer churn behavior through incorporating psychological constructs. The findings indicate that service quality, customer satisfaction, attachment, commitment and switching costs are the major factors differentiating the switching and non-switching decisions. Service quality of the service provider found to be as the differentiating factor in churning decision. The results of the study have implications for both academicians and relationship mangers; they are using psychological constructs to predict customer switching behavior.

Abstract:
Telecommunication systems generally performed better than other lifelines in the Christchurch-area earthquake sequence of 2010–2011; however, various service interruptions were a major concern for subscribers. Power disruption was the primary reason for service interruption in Christchurch, as has been similarly observed in many other major earthquakes around the world. Extensive ground failures impacted underground cabling, while Central Offices (COs) sustained minor damage due to strong shaking. Closure of the Central Business District and increased call volumes created additional strain on telecommunication service providers to deal with emergency response. This paper presents the findings of the post-earthquake lifeline performance investigations of both the landline network and the cellular network. Voice and data services of these networks are examined and commented based on the findings. The authors’ view of rendering the telecommunication systems more resilient is presented ( Eidinger and Tang 2014 ).

Abstract:
Policymakers have reformed telecommunications market structure since several decades ago, from a monopoly to a more competitive market. They believed that the competitive market structure would be able to overcome the limitations of investment required to develop the industry and to provide equitable access. However, the advance of digital age has changed the competition landscape in telecommunication sector considerably. Telecommunication companies are also required to provide higher investment to further improve their networks quality as well as coverage. This study aims to reinvestigate effect of competition on investment under the current context. The empirical estimation results show the intensity of competition has a significant short-run impact on the investment behaviour of cellular telecommunications companies. The effect is not linear, but in the form of an inverted U curve. This points out the existence of a competition intensity that maximizes mobile network operator (MNO)'s investment. We find that the intensity is in the level of 0.61 or when a company has an EBITDA margin of 39%. This finding implies a different behaviour of MNOs having EBITDA margins of less and more than 39% in respond to the change in competition intensity. MNOs in the first groups will react to the increase of competition intensity by decreasing their investment. Meanwhile, the others will respond to the rise in competition intensity by increasing their investment. The empirical results also show the accumulative impact of the competition intensity on investment is 12,5 times of the short-run

Abstract:
The telecommunication is one of the modes of communication, in which most investments are made. It consists of internet, mobile phones, wired and wireless fixed phones, fax, televisions, radio and some other. Among them, demand for internet and cellular phones rapidly increases. For a smooth function of this business, knowledge on demand is much important. Effective forecasts help a business to manage its supply efficiently. This study aimed to find out an accurate mechanism for prediction of demand for internet conections and cellualr phone collections.Based on the secondary data available in central bank reports from 1996 to 2016, several statistical forecasting models were evaluated for an accurate prediction. There can be seen an increasing demand for both internet and cellular phone connections. Number of internet connections has gone up from 4 110 to 4 921 000, while the usage of cellular phones has developed from 71 228 to 26 228 000 during this period. Rapid growth in internet usage has happened after 2009, while after year 2003, usage of cellular phone has increased rapidly. With compared to models fitted for original form of data, models for log transformed data show better performances. The best performance in prediction of internet connection was given by ARIMA (1,1,1) model fitted for log transformed data, meanwhile ARIMA (0,1,2) model fitted for log transformed data showed the best fit for series of cellular connections. Double exponential smoothing models also show better fit for both series.

Abstract:
Due to the advancement of telecommunication platform, users are now demanding new applications such as Online Gaming, mobile TV, Web 2.0, and to meet this requirement operators needed to design more flexible network. To fulfill the requirements, 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) works on the Long Term Evolution (LTE) and propose a system which has larger bandwidths (up to 20 MHz), low latency and packet optimized radio access technology having peak data rates of 100 Mbps in downlink and 50 Mbps in the uplink (Magdalena, 2007; Motorola, 2007; Skold, 2009). Offering a greater coverage by providing higher data rates over wider areas and flexibility of use at existing and new frequency bands plan is a major challenge. In this paper, we are analyzing practical coverage scenario in an urban area (i.e. Kolkata) in terms of received signal levels, total noise, interference, throughput, and quality factor for downlink signal level.

Autonomous surveillance systems based on wireless sensor networks have brought many benefits for understanding, protecting, and preserving biodiversity thanks to the latest sensor and telecommunication technologies. For example, in archipelagoes with many rocks of various shapes and elevations interleaved with water, it is hard to deploy wireless sensing systems for covering all these given areas. In these sensing systems, coverages are defined as where information is accessible. In this article, a new approach is proposed, adopting cellular automata and massively parallel processing on GPUs. This work relates to the development of parallel algorithms and CAD tools to optimize coverage oriented to efficient deployment of wide-range wireless networks for various purposes such as environmental surveillance, early warning systems for natural hazards and risks, taking into account turbulence in topology. Some experiments on radio coverage were done in different complex terrain areas given positive results in terms of performance and functional requirements.

The three-dimensional simulation is based on a solid conduction cellular phone model cooled by natural convection and radiation. The FEA simulation method was verified with experimental results. In this paper, simulation study was carried out to examine various thermal solution options to improve on the heat transfer from the package to the surrounding. As conduction is the predominant heat transfer within the cellular phone, the thermal resistance can be reduced by creating a solid conduction path between the heat dissipating packages with the housing wall and improving the housing wall conduction material.

Abstract:
Abstract The need for services in the world of telecommunications and the prosperity and rapid development of this sector around the world has led mobile phone companies to compete to provide the best services to customers. One of these devices used for communications is the mobile phone. The mobile phone is simply an electronic device that is mainly serving unwired telecommunications through a cellular network of particular base stations known as cell sites. There are many obstacles or problems in the telecommunication field, and the relevant institutions and companies should find solutions to these obstacles and problems. One of these obstacles in telecommunications is the coverage holes. Coverage holes occur when the location of the mobile phone is set in midway between the two base transceiver stations (BTSs). This causes an abnormal interruption in communication until the user crosses the coverage holes area. This paper presents an intelligent algorithm as a set of technical steps that can be used to improve the communication services of the mobile phone network and to solve the communication problems via the reduction of the coverage holes between two BTSs. It suggests a method that could alleviate this problem using a strategy that reduces the coverage holes by developing an intelligent algorithm system to receive signal strength indicators and use AT command “+CREG” to disconnect and reconnect to available BTS within an acceptable energy level. As a result, the connection turned from marginal into good connection.

Abstract:
<p><em>Technological advancement comes with both positive and negative impacts to the society, including the cybercrime. The main problems discussed in this study is regulation of criminal acts of scams committed through electronic media, particularly SMS, as well as the efforts to handle such crime in accordance with applicable legal provisions, both based on the Criminal Code and based on Law Number 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions that has been amended by Law no. 19 of 2016. This study applies the Normative Legal Research method. The results showed that the criminal act of scams committed online was in principle similar to that of conventional fraud, the only difference being the means of action, namely using an electronic system, namely computers, the internet, or cellular telecommunication devices. Based on the prevailing legal provisions, online fraud can be treated similar to that conventional offenses stipulated in the Criminal Code (KUHP), so that the case handling process is also based both on the Criminal Code and Electronic Information and Transactions law</em></p>

Abstract:
The ongoing mobile communication technology intensification had occasioned the inevitable multiplications in the ratio of the radio frequency base service stations which had raised public consciousness over the considerable health hazards of the radioactive emissions from the communication systems. The current paper analysed the sequences of electromagnetic field measurements performed on the selected three states in the North West Nigeria in order to establish the compliance of radiation levels of cellular base stations and wireless fidelity access points with respect to internationally approved recommendations. The measured power densities of wireless fidelity access points are minimal and do not surpass 1% of the level allowed by International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation (ICNIRP). The result confirmed the environmental safety of the RF energy maintained by the telecommunication operators within the general public indicating an insignificant health hazards to the citizens.

Abstract:
A quality monitoring system for telecommunication services is relevant for network operators because it can help to improve users’ quality-of-experience (QoE). In this context, this article proposes a quality monitoring system, named Q-Meter, whose main objective is to improve subscriber complaint detection about telecommunication services using online-social-networks (OSNs). The complaint is detected by sentiment analysis performed by a deep learning algorithm, and the subscriber’s geographical location is extracted to evaluate the signal strength. The regions in which users posted a complaint in OSN are analyzed using a freeware application, which uses the radio base station (RBS) information provided by an open database. Experimental results demonstrated that sentiment analysis based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a bidirectional long short-term memory (BLSTM)-recurrent neural network (RNN) with the soft-root-sign (SRS) activation function presented a precision of 97% for weak signal topic classification. Additionally, the results showed that 78.3% of the total number of complaints are related to weak coverage, and 92% of these regions were proved that have coverage problems considering a specific cellular operator. Moreover, a Q-Meter is low cost and easy to integrate into current and next-generation cellular networks, and it will be useful in sensing and monitoring tasks.

Abstract:
The review article discusses the possibility of using tethered high-altitude telecommunication platforms (VTPS) based on unmanned aerial vehicles (as tethered UAVs), which are also called – "tethered drones" Flying COWs (Cell on Wings). Their essence lies in the fact that sufficiently high electrical voltage is applied to a flexible metal cable from a ground-based mobile control point in order to solve the multidisciplinary VTP tasks for the local cellular coverage on a vast territory. These unmanned aerial systems with VTP and tethered UAVs, which retransmit signals in relation to a specific area as a part of the objects of modern geo information systems (GIS) covering particular regions, territories and hard-to-reach areas with a radio signal can find its fairly wide application in the near future, besides radio or optical communication of VTP can be used as a network of telecommunication channels for receiving/transmitting information.

Abstract:
The telecommunication industry considers customer relationship management as a significant issue for organizational adaptation. Mobile service providers have enforced CRM with the objective to reduce the number of customers that churn. The objective of this article is to detect high impact factors leading to customer churn in the mobile industry over the present-day market situation in Delhi-NCR by using a questionnaire survey and examine their importance. The study is done to understand usage patterns of customers using mobile data services. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify the most common issues to identify attributes of selecting a service provider, cellular usage, and service quality. Thus, the authors have selected possible variables for modeling the decision tree to build a churn prediction model. A renewed customer service, after analyzing this experience, could predict those customers who are at risk of switching to a different provider.

Abstract:
Improving customer-perceived service quality is a critical mission of telecommunication service providers. Using 35 billion call records, we develop a call quality score model to predict customer complaint calls. The score model consists of two components: service quality score and connectivity score models. It also incorporates human psychological impacts such as the peak and end effects. We implement a large-sized data processing system that manages real-time service logs to generate quality scores at the customer level using big data processing technology and analysis techniques. The experimental results confirm the validity of the developed model in distinguishing probable complaint callers. With the adoption of the system, the first call resolution rate of the call center increased from 45% to 73%, and the field engineer dispatch rate from 46% to 25%.

Abstract:
Due to the development of satellite, mobile, cellular, and optical telecommunication systems, a special attention is paid to broad band frequency signals, like signals with wide spectrum, when frequency band of the transmitting signal may be wider than frequency band of the transmitted signal itself. For many telecommunication systems, the ability of transmitting information to several users simultaneously via one and the same channel is very important. A number of methods are applied for this purpose, for instance: the frequency modulation (FM) of the carrier signal (the method of frequency division of transmitting channel), phase modulation (PM) of the carrier signal or pseudo-random modulation (PRM) of the carrier signal. In the conditions of increasing demands on communication systems, the question of creating multi-user systems became very actual. In all cases it is necessary to provide high quality connection on longer distance so that the universal standards should not be violated.

The development of science and technology to date has spread throughout the world in a current called globalization. With globalization it has an influence on increasingly advanced lives, with the existence of information and communication products. Information technology in its fulfillment of people's needs has undergone many changes from analog to digital as it is today. One of the most important elements in the journey of every civilization is technological progress, especially communication technology. It is inconceivable how communication technology has changed human life, especially what is called a cellphone (cellphone). Almost everyone now has and uses mobile phones in communication activities. Likewise with telecommunication equipment for mobile phones (mobile phones), it has developed so rapidly from being only used for telephones and sending text or text messages, to those that can be used to listen to music, radio, for the internet, watch television, and so on. Today, people have considered it mandatory to have telecommunications equipment for mobile phones (cellphones) so that it is natural for someone to have more than one handphone. Likewise, cellular telephone operators in Indonesia continue to compete to provide the best service for their users.

With the advent of technology, there has been an excessive use of cellular phones. Cellular phones have made life convenient in our society. However, individuals and groups have subverted the telecommunication devices to deceive unwary victims. Robocalls are quite prevalent these days and they can either be legal or used by scammers to trick one out of their money. The proposed methodology in the paper is to experiment two ensemble models on the dataset acquired from the Federal Trade Commission(DNC Dataset). It is imperative to analyze the call records and based on the patterns the calls can classify as a robocall or not a robocall. Two algorithms Random Forest and XgBoost are combined in two ways and compared in the paper in terms of accuracy, sensitivity and the time taken.
