Abstract:
The ability of asymmetric Laue crystals to focus X-rays sagittally is demonstrated. The extent of such focusing is similar to that of sagittal focusing by a Bragg crystal, except for a factor related to the asymmetry angle. The anticlastic bending facilitates the use of inverse-Cauchois geometry in the meridional plane to provide better energy resolution and to increase the photon flux by an order of magnitude compared with traditional sagittal focusing with Bragg crystals. Furthermore, for sagittal focusing at X-ray energies above 30 keV, a Laue crystal is preferred to a Bragg crystal because the length of the beam's footprint on a Laue crystal, unlike on a Bragg crystal, is small and insensitive to energy. The conditions imposed on the asymmetry angle of the Laue crystal to achieve simultaneous sagittal focusing and inverse-Cauchois geometry in the meridional plane are derived for both single-crystal and double-crystal fixed-exit sagittally focusing monochromators.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A Cauchois transmission-crystal hard x-ray spectrometer was calibrated by using a portable, compact, battery-powered tungsten x-ray source having 120 peak kilovoltage. The source emission region was characterized by recording high-resolution 2D x-ray images and was found to be composed of three emission regions having a 400 µm overall extent. The absolutely calibrated source fluence was measured by using a calibrated silicon drift detector and was in good agreement with the spectrum calculated by the SpekPy code. High-resolution spectra of the W Kα and Kβ lines in the 57–70 keV energy range were recorded on image plate detectors by the Cauchois spectrometer and provided excellent calibrations of the spectrometer’s dispersion and spectral resolution. The minimal effect of the source size in the spectral lines recorded on the spectrometer’s Rowland circle and the source-size broadening of the spatial lines recorded well beyond the Rowland circle were analyzed. The integrated reflectivity of the spectrometer’s quartz (101) crystal was measured by using the absolutely calibrated 59.318 keV W Kα1 spectral line emission and was in agreement with previous integrated reflectivity measurements performed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The well-characterized portable 120 kV x-ray source provides a convenient and cost-effective way to accurately calibrate the sensitivity, dispersion, spectral resolution, and source-size broadening in the spectra recorded by high-resolution x-ray spectrometers operating in the hard x-ray range. The absolutely calibrated source fluence can also be used to calibrate x-ray detectors at energies in the 40–100 keV energy range.

In the spring of 2012, the Macalester College Urban GIS class embarked on a community-based research project using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to visualize the lingering effects of the housing crisis on individual neighborhoods and communities. Our methodology was informed by a report by the Folwell Center for Urban Initiatives (2011). The Folwell report created a Housing Market Index that presents a block-by-block view of housing market strength in North Minneapolis (Folwell 2011). The Macalester College Urban GIS class applied the Housing Market Index (HMI) methodology to five additional neighborhoods in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Abstract:
Cauchy's Integral Theorem is a crucial mathematical theorem that describes the behavior of a complex function on a complex plane. This paper reviews the proof of Cauchy's integral theorem and formula, and the deduction of Cauchy's integral like Cauchy's integral formula with the point in the numerator is on the contour integral. This paper also explores Cauchy's integral when the function contains a non-analytic point inside the contour integral. The way is splitting the entire integral into the sum of several contour integrals equivalently, putting the function f(z) in the numerator into Laurent Series, then simplifying each contour integral using different methods including the derivative of Cauchy’s Integral. The result is the contour integral around point minus part of the Laurent Series of f(x) in the numerator. This paper shows a path to deal with Cauchy's integral when the function inside the contour integral is not holomorphic in the region.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A complex variable is a quantity that contains both a real part and an imaginary part. Complex analysis is an application of mathematics that analyzes the features of functions of complex variables. Physics, engineering, and computer science are just a few of the scientific disciplines that benefit from complex analysis. In order to tackle issues that are challenging or impossible to resolve using only real variables, complex analysis is crucial. This paper introduces an important theorem in complex analysis, which is Cauchy’s residue theorem. A relative general expression for a complex integral along a simple closed contour is provided by Cauchy's residue theorem. Cauchy's residue theorem can be used to select an acceptable closed contour for the calculation of some unusual definite integrals that may be highly complex and challenging to solve using traditional methods. The residue at the function's isolated singularities is then established. In the formula that is subtracted in Cauchy's residue theorem, the values of the residues are extracted. The integral along a simple closed contour can then be represented in two pieces, in which one along the real axis and the other along the circle.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Hyperbolic number plane constitutes a significant area of algebraic research, with their properties finding wide-ranging applications across various fields. Meanwhile, Cauchy's criterion, as an effective tool for determining series convergence, has also been extensively utilized in the study of hyperbolic numbers within mathematical analysis and practical problem-solving, offering valuable insights and practical applications. The paper conducted an in-depth exploration of the non-negative hyperbolic plane, applying the Comparison test and further investigating the Cauchy's criterion on the non-negative hyperbolic plane. Through the application of the comparison test, the paper have arrived at an important conclusion: when considering two numbers, and , in the non-negative hyperbolic complex plane, and , the convergence of implies the convergence of , and divergence of implies the divergence of . Furthermore, through a detailed analysis of Cauchy’s criterion, the paper also discovered a key finding: when a certain number r in the non-negative hyperbolic plane satisfies , if , the corresponding infinite series converges, whereas if , the series diverges. The paper not only pushes the frontiers of mathematical theory but also unlocks fresh avenues for interdisciplinary exploration. By delving into uncharted territories, it expands our understanding of mathematical principles and their applicability across diverse fields. Moreover, it fortifies mathematics' central role in addressing real-world challenges, providing essential tools and insights. As a cornerstone for future research, this work paves the way for innovative mathematical investigations and their practical applications, fostering a deeper symbiosis between theory and the real world.

Abstract:
Early planning in Ottawa takes the form of a piece-meal architectural admixture. On paper there remains a series of largely unrealized proposals designed to promote an image symbolic of national identity. Successive federal and municipal agencies worked to various degrees of success to augment Ottawa's appearance and amenity. British planner Thomas Adams' departure from, and the subsequent demise of the Federal Commission of Conservation in the early 1920's marked a low point in efforts to evolve comprehensive planning strategies. The career of Noulan Cauchon, first head of the Ottawa Town Planning Commission, aimed to keep the notion of planning alive in the city. Certain of his little-acknowledged proposals bear remarkable similarity to the pre-W.W. II planning efforts of MacKenzie King and Jacques Greber. Cauchon's legacy endures in proposals which appear to have been incorporated into federal planning activities during the post-war era.

Abstract:
An x-ray spectrometer is actually a scanning monochromator because two conditions must be satisfied, namely: (1) nλ, = 2d sinθ and (2) θI{= θR to within the rocking curve of the crystal 2Δθ. Before Castaing (B.C.) there were four known types of focussing monochromators, namely: Johann, Johansson, Cauchois, and von Hamos. Castaing was fortunate in having Andre Guinier (well known for his work in x-ray crystallography) as his thesis advisor. Thus, he wisely chose to use a spectrometer of the Johansson type. Had he used a flat crystal spectrometer, the result would have been unsatisfactory and the history of microanalysis would have been significantly different. Many of the spectrometers that were used in the early instruments were either of the Johansson type, in which the crystal planes are curved to a radius of 2R and the surface has a radius of R, the focal circle radius. This is sometimes called exact focussing because rays in the plane of the focal circle converge exactly to a point focus. For simpler construction, the Johann crystal which has the surface parallel to the atomic planes (also curved to a radius of 2R) was sometimes used. While both types provide one-dimensional focussing, the Johansson type is preferred because the effective width of the crystal can be greater. In addition to the type of geometry used, early instruments developed after Castaing (A.C) also had variations in the mechanism of the crystal movement. Many used a relatively simple mechanism with the crystal and detector moving about a fixed center for the focal circle as shown in Fig. 1A. Some later instruments used curved crystals that were fixed in position, and scanning was accomplished either by rotating the crystal as in Fig. 1B or by a mechanism that flexed the crystal and changed the radius of the focal circle as in Fig. 1C. The most satisfactory arrangement and the one subsequently adopted by most manufacturers of commercial microprobes utilized a linear motion of the crystal carriage with a provision for tilting the crystal so that the focal circle always passed though the x-ray source as shown in Fig. 1D. If the detector moves so that it remains on this focal circle, its motion is along a leaf-shaped curve. With this design it is easy to have a readout proportional to wave length.

Abstract:
A study of the goals and strategies of planning in Hamilton shows that concentration of professional reports and civic planning boards alone is too limited to assess the local fate of the city planning movement and its constituent emphases of beautification and efficiency. The municipal advisory Town Planning Board (TPB) appointed in 1915 and the report commissioned from engineer-planner Noulan Cauchon in 1917 reflected the co-existence of the two emphases among Hamilton planning advocates. Post-war changes in the composition of the TPB and the development of ad hoc political alternatives to zoning reduced the TPB's political influence and led by 1923 to its abandonment by prominent beautifiers. While the ineffectual advisory TPB continued until completion of its zoning plan in 1928, the beautifiers moved to administrative parks and roads boards whose provincially legislated powers and budgets made them more effective vehicles for the realization of long-standing plans which had been re-iterated in Cauchon's report and pursued unsuccessfully through the TPB. By 1930, the efficiency planners had disappeared while the beaufifiers had overcome political challenges to their plans for scenic boulevards and a major expansion of the park system.

Abstract:
In the field of Complex Analysis, it is acknowledged that Cauchy’s Residue Theorem plays an essential role, which allows the calculation of complex integrals by adding up the residues of singularities in the complex plane. Many mathematicians have developed various theorems out of Cauchy’s Residue Theorem and have solved numerous problems using Cauchy’s Residue Theorem, but there are still a lot more studies needed. Thus, this paper focuses on examining Residue Theorem deeply by introducing singularity point and residue, combining Laurent series and complex integral, then deducting Cauchy’s Residue Theorem. This paper then concentrates on solving four unique complex integrals to illustrate Cauchy’s Residue Theorem by analyzing the graph of integration, reformatting the integrals, applying theorems or tricks, integrating the reformatted integrals, and simplifying the results. As a result, this paper not only presented a deeper analysis of the deduction of Cauchy’s Residue Theorem, but also presented the solutions towards four previously unsolved complex integrals. The deduction of Cauchy’s Residue Theorem and the four complex analysis problems have important applications for dealing with integrals associated with hyperbolic functions and lead to future research in other areas of mathematics and physics.

Abstract:
Abstract Italian mathematicians Girolamo Cardano and Raphael Bombelli made the initial dis covery of complex numbers somewhere in the 16th century while attempting to solve a algebra icquestion. The relevance of complex analysis in mathematics, physics, and engineering is incre asing now after hundreds of years of growth, particularly in the areas of algebraic geometry, flu id dynamics, quantum mechanics, and other relatedtopics. This paper discusses three aspects of integration of complex functions, properties and valuation of complex line integral, and Cauchy’s Theorem and its applications. It mainly gives a detailed definition of complex integrals, clarifies the properties of operations such as indefinite integrals and integral paths, and briefly lists several applications of Cauchy’s theorem and proves them. Several theorems are proved from Cauchy’s theorem, Local existence of primitives and Cauchy’s theorem in a disc, and Cauchy’s integral formulas.

Abstract:
Integration is a useful mathematical tool which is applied in a wide range of studies and assists people to solve many problems. Despite methods of real analysis, complex integrations in complex analysis are more beneficial and more convenient than real integrations under certain circumstances. Cauchy’s Residue Theorem and Cauchy Integral Formula are two methods used to solve complex integrals. Cauchy’s Residue Theorem helps to solve complex integrals via the calculation involving singular points, whereas Cauchy Integral Formula is implemented to solve complex integrals by finding out poles enclosed by the contour. Herein, the comparison and analysis of the process of solving both real and complex integrations between Cauchy’s Residue Theorem and Cauchy Integral Formula are demonstrated through sample questions involving exponential integrations and polynomial integrations. This passage also includes definitions for Cauchy’s Residue Theorem, Cauchy Integral Formula, corollary of Cauchy Integral Formula, steps and solutions of sample contour integral questions.

Abstract:
Cauchy’s residue theorem gives a relative general form for complex integral along a simple closed contour. With the help of Cauchy’s residue theorem, appropriate closed contour can be chosen to calculate some abnormal definite integrals that might be very complicated and are difficult to solve by conventional methods. This paper focuses on four distinct kinds of definite integrals, including the integrals involving sine and cosine functions, polynomial functions, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions. The contour chosen are basically a sector of circle that involves one or several isolated singularities of the function. Then the residue at the isolated singularities of the function is calculated. The value of the residues is substituted in the formula that is deducted in the Cauchy’s residue theorem. Then the integral along the simple closed contour can be expressed in two parts, in which one is along the real axis while the other is along the circle. This study demonstrates that the Cauchy’s residue theorem is superior to the conventional real analysis methods.
