Abstract:
LISTENING AND DIALOGUE WITH THE SACRED TRADITIONS OF THE TIKUNA PEOPLE: A WITNESS OF DE EVANGELIZATION IN THE AMAZON In line with the invitation to the Amerindia’s Church, in finding new ways of evangelization, this article aims to reflect about how much the indigenous people’s cosmogony can contribute to their own evangelization as the Synod of Pan-Amazon Synod proposed. The sacred stories mentioned in this sharing, is a result of hearing a specific People: The Tikuna, since mostly of them became catholic from of Alto Solimões’s Diocese. For decades, the mission’s church among them has been a signal of hearing so many of these communities in the peripheries of Amazonia, willing to strengthen their protagonism in the path of discipleship and the confirmation of their cultural identify.

Abstract:
The study examined the efficacy of the Catholic Church in healthcare provision in Kericho Diocese, Kenya. It employed the descriptive research design to determine the respondent’s feelings and experiences in relation to the Catholic Church healthcare provision. A total of 384 randomly sampled primary respondents participated in the study through questionnaire. Additionally, key informants including the bishop, a medical coordinator, 9 priests, 4 healthcare personnel and 8 recovered patients were purposely selected for interviews. Quantitative data was analysed descriptively while qualitative data was analysed thematically. The study concludes that the teachings of the Catholic Church on healthcare provision centre on defence for human dignity, common good, solidarity and fundamental option for the poor. The teachings, however, were not fully reflected in the provision of the healthcare service in the Catholic Church healthcare facilities under investigation. Therefore, the church in the Diocese of Kericho has not been adequately effective in healthcare provision. Based on the conclusions, the study recommends that the Catholic Church health facilities in Kericho Diocese should provide health care services in accordance to the Catholic’s teachings on human dignity. The healthcare provision sector should implement personalist ethics of care by respecting the human person in the healthcare service provision.

Abstract:
Atambua Diocese is a diocese centered on the Belu district, its territory is divided into 3 districts which include Belu, Malaka, and North Central Timor districts. The spread of churches in remote areas makes it difficult for people to find locations and information on church activities, number of people, mass schedules and leaders because information about churches is not yet available. Geographic Information System is used to solve the problems experienced in Atambua Diocese. This system can provide information related to the Catholic church in the Diocese of Atambua based on Web-GIS. This study uses the Waterfall method which approaches systematically and sequentially starting from the analysis, design, coding, testing, and maintenance stages. This Web-GIS-based system was developed using the PHP programming language and MySQL database. Abstract:
The Second Pastoral Consultation of the Diocese of Surabaya held on October 18th-20th 2019 declared the Pastoral Strategic Policy of the Diocese of Surabaya for 2020-2030, formulated in these words: “In the spirit of the Basic Direction, the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Surabaya matures lingkungan rooted parishes present in the middle of the society”. This article wants to know in what matters and how strong this Diocese of Surabaya’s Pastoral Strategic Policy is connected to the voices of the pastors of the universal Church, especially those echoed in the doctrine of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) and that of the subsequent period. It is hoped that such reflection brought a clearer vision and understanding regarding such an important policy, granted that it will lead the faithful people of the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Surabaya in their pilgrimage to God in this world for the next 10 years. By knowing its connectedness with the voices of the pastors of the universal Church, it is expected that the faithful people of the Diocese of Surabaya would be more aware of the voice of Jesus Christ, the Good Pastor, who himself leads his flock to the green pastures of love shared in faith and hope with peoples they enconter.

Abstract:
This paper aims to illustrate a difficult period in the history of the Romanian Church United with Rome, namely: the evolution of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Cluj-Gherla in the first two months after the split of Transylvania, as a result of the Vienna Diktat. The purpose of this article is to highlight the consequences that the entry of North-West Transylvania into Hungary had on the Greek Catholic Diocese of Cluj-Gherla; what changes the new administration brings to the United Church. After highlighting the general framework (status, economic situation, the attempt to subordinate the greek-catholic dioceses to the Archdiocese of Esztergom, as well as the pressure on the Greek Catholic believers to change their denomination), the activity of bishop Iuliu Hossu is also presented. Emphasis will be placed on the bishop’s efforts and attempts to stop the abuses of the new authority on the Romanian population, his attempts to mediate conflicts between Romanian and Hungarian leaders, and last but not least the efforts made to manage the administration of the Greek Catholic Diocese in the new political context. The article also presents the situation of educational institutions under the auspices of the United Diocese of Cluj-Gherla, and the difficulties they face as a result of changes in the education system.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper draws attention to the neglected episode of a crisis that engulfed the Benin City Roman Catholic Station from 1951 to 1952. It examines how a disagreement between an Irish priest and an African catechist degenerated into a crisis that pitted the majority of the African laity against the Irish clergy. This crisis was not only reported in national newspapers and taken up by nationalist agitators, but also attracted the concern of Roman Catholics outside the diocese as well as the Vatican. This paper contends that the disagreement became a crisis because of the Irish clergy’s upholding of their policy of gradual incorporation of the African laity into participation in the administration of the diocese, and the African laity’s determination to pursue their aspirations of full and unhindered participation in the administration on their own terms. The crisis was also fueled by African nationalist ferment of the period, which prolonged the issue. The argument is supported with archival sources, newspaper reports and oral interviews with participants and members of the diocese.

Abstract:
This paper evaluates the evangelisation opportunities in the historical development of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega since 1978. The study adopted a historical research design. The study's target population was one million catholic faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega. A sample size of 384 catholic Christians was further deduced using the Krejcie and Morgan Table. Data collection tools used included questionnaires, interviews schedule, focus group discussions, observations, secondary sources, archival records, and internet materials. The respondents consent to be quoted in this work was given. Data obtained was qualitatively analyzed. The study unravelled the following opportunities: Education, health, human resource, rich documentation in the Catholic Church, stable hierarchy, rich scripture and long history, among others. These opportunities are important because they help the church to advance in her efforts of evangelisation. That is why this study employed the challenge and response theory as propounded by Arnold Toynbee. The area under study is a multi-ethnic with rich cultural diversity, the dances and music, that when blended well can enrich evangelisation and the liturgy.

Abstract:
Different organisational structures of the Catholic Church in Slovenia were a reflection of the circumstances in the Christian community in the Central European region. Being a basic structure, a diocese has existed since the antique period. The diocese is a religious community with a centre in a large settlement (civitas). With the spread of Christianity into the rural areas and into the peasant environment, parishes began to come into existence. In historiography, the terms 'primitive parishes' began to be used to refer to the oldest parishes. They were characterised by their vastness. The number of primitive parishes increased in the 12th century. Due to remoteness of diocesan centres from the communities in rural areas and because of the inability of bishops to be in touch with the priests in rural areas, intermediate stages of organisation were coming into existence during centuries, i.e., archdeaconries and deaneries at some places. Some important changes occurred in the operation of the Catholic Church and in its organisation in Slovenia during the years after the Second World War. New parishes were established. The change of the state boundaries required changing the diocesan boundaries. Finally, the creation of the independent state of the Republic of Slovenia required a new setting up of the pastoral work and a new territorial organisation of dioceses. The study sought to investigate the Catholic Church’s viewpoint on miraa production and consumption in Igembe Deanery, Meru Diocese, Kenya. The study employed a descriptive research design. Data were obtained from oral interviews, focus group discussions, questionnaires, primary and secondary sources, and participant observation to ensure the study's validity and reliability. The study was based on the Structural-Functionalism and Social Conflict theory in order to establish the viewpoint of the Catholic Church on miraa production and usage in Igembe Deanery despite the CC policies on drugs of all kinds except on therapeutic grounds. A sample of 348 of the 3614 church members in Igembe Deanery was chosen for the study. Ten (10) priests, eight (8) catechists, ten (10) elders, ten (10) farmers, ten (10) traders and three hundred (300) church members from sampled parishes of Igembe Deanery were used as key informants. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentages, tables and the mean were used in analysing data. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 27.0 was used to analyse the data. This study’s findings were that the Catholic Church in Igembe Deanery, Diocese of Meru, views miraa as the main source of livelihood for Christians, and miraa's economic, socio-cultural, religious, and educational functions are the main reasons for the Catholic Church in Igembe Deanery to accept Khat's production and consumption. This study recommends that the church in Africa needs to enhance efficient and effective Christianity by enhancing the inculturation of Christianity in Africa.

Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the degree of perceived church connectedness and the level of psychological well-being of the Catholic faithful in the Vicariate of Bago, Diocese of Bacolod as a whole and according to the demographics. A descriptive-correlational research design was utilized to know the degree of church connectedness and its relationship to the level of psychological well-being of the respondents. The investigation used a researcher-made Church Connectedness Scale and the Flourishing Scale (FS). Results revealed a somewhat high degree of church connectedness and a high level of psychological well- being among respondents. Church connectedness is significantly correlated with age and mass attendance while psychological well-being is associated with organization and ministry affiliation. The weak significant relationship between church connectedness and psychological well-being has implications on the development of the said variables among the Catholic faithful.

From the very beginning of the Catholic Church, the intercession of saints has played an important role in Christian religious life. Each newly built church was dedicated to a mystery of faith or to a particular saint who was worshipped in that place. Over the years, the dedication of the church would also become the dedication of the parish. This article discusses names of the parishes of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, which was formed in 1957. The study covered 133 parishes. According to the scheme used in the literature, all the names are divided into Trinitarian, Christological, Marian, angelic, and hagiographical names. Double dedications are discussed separately, and the dedications of parishes established after the formation of the Diocese of Rockville Centre are shown.

Abstract:
The Vienna Diktat caused important territorial changes, affecting the two Romanian Churches, namely the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. Taking into account both political changes and the new borders, both the Greek-Catholic Diocese of Cluj-Gherla and the Orthodox Diocese of Cluj were on the territory of Hungary, and this new situation determined a stronger solidarity between the two Romanian bishops of Cluj. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to present the way in which the relationship between the two bishops was illustrated in the newspaper Tribuna Ardealului. First of all, the interaction between the two bishops will be highlighted, for example the official events in which they both participated, and also their collaboration regarding the help of the Romanian cultural activity in the chronological interval considered within this research. Secondly, the relationship between the communities of believers of the two Romanian denominations will be captured, with special emphasis on rural communities. Therefore, in addition to reconstructing the historical events considered, the research will also follow the critical analysis of newspaper articles reporting these events, to see what aspects were emphasized, and what message was intended to be transmitted. Abstract:
The subject of the article is to present the issues related to offering and accounting for offerings for sacraments and sacramentals using the example of the Diocese of Ełk. The primary source for these considerations is the Code of Canon Law promulgated by Pope John Paul II in 1983, with amendments up to 2022. The starting point of these considerations is to provide a definition of sacrament and sacramental, essentially referring to the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, with historical data taken into account. The article further clarifies the concept of offering by referring to its dictionary meaning, whether it is an offering made to God or an offering made of oneself. In the first part, the article also presents the general church legislation regarding offerings made for sacraments and sacramentals, considering issues related to accounting, the sustenance of clergy, determining Mass stipends, iura stolae, and associated practices. In the later part of the article, there is a reference to particular legislation within the Diocese of Ełk, with special emphasis on the statutes of the First Synod of the Diocese of Ełk and decisions made by individual bishops of the Diocese of Ełk. The Synod recalls the force of canon 848 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, which states that, on the occasion of administering sacraments, it is permissible to accept an offering determined by competent church authority and in accordance with prevailing custom. In this part of the article, it becomes evident that particular legislation does not make significant resolutions on the discussed issue but rather creates a space for the practical application of the general norm. Particularly, in the Economic Decree of the Diocese of Ełk, certain practical provisions are found. The last part includes the presentation of customs and issues in applying the legal norm and a summary. It is worth noting that the issue of offerings made by the faithful on the occasion of administering sacraments and sacramentals, the voluntary nature of donations, and the fairness of compensation for clergy is a highly complex matter. It combines the spiritual and material aspects – invisible grace and material object. The Church must safeguard the purity of the sign, eliminate any abuses, and simultaneously ensure the fairness of compensation for clergy. In today’s times, when society, including the faithful of the Catholic Church, expects a high level of transparency, it is important to address the issues that can contribute to a better understanding of the practices of the Catholic Church.

In my researches in the field of media religion and culture, I have made extensive comparative analyses of the Catholic and Pentecostal churches in Nigeria and their different communication strategies. This paper highlights the appropriation of the new information and communication technologies by these two Christian denominations in Nigeria. Special attention is paid to the Catholic Church, because, unlike the Pentecostal denominations which see media technologies as an extension of the church pulpit, the Catholic Church has generally exhibited a somewhat cold attitude towards these instruments of mass communication. This attitude goes back to the advent of cinema which the Church’s hierarchy then saw as having the potential of corrupting faith and moral. The Catholic Church has remained largely a print-based Church, investing most of her communication energy in the print media and in oral catechism. But in recent years, this negative attitude of the Church has started to change. Of all the technologies of mass communication, none has been so instantly accepted and embraced by the Catholic Church as the new information and communication technologies. Using the Mater Cyberworld, (a cyber-café founded by the Ahiara Mbaise Catholic Diocese in Eastern Nigeria), as a case, this paper highlights some distinctive characteristics of the Catholic Church’s involvement in the new information and communication technologies. The analysis shows that this media appropriation is one of the means through which the Catholic Church establishes a strong presence in the Nigerian socio-political sphere.

Abstract:
In this research, the author tries to prove what at the time of the formation of the Uzhhorod Union in 1646, the Mukachevo Diocese had all the basic elements of the church sui iuris, which today determine the main constitutional collection – Codex of Canons of Eastern Churches: 1) community of formed believers; 2) an established hierarchy that united this community in a visible unity of faith thanks to the service of the word of God, St. Sacraments and church’s government; 3) particular norm of traditional customary law (ius) and after the return of 63 priests with their faithful to unity with the Catholic Church and the Roman throne, received 4) recognition by the highest authorities of the Church and the State. If the first three conditions existed already before 1646, then the realization of the fourth condition came after the Uzhhorod Union in 1648-1659. During this time, the Mukachevo Diocese was recognized by the local Catholic Church of the Greek rite by the highest authorities of the Church (by the Roman throne in 1655) and the State (by the king of Hungary in 1659). The difficulty of becoming recognized by the supreme government of the Church (by the Pope) and the State (by the Hungarian king) of the Mukachevo Union Diocese as an independent canonical substance explained by several circumstances: 1) the lack of a foundational royal charter on the foundation of the diocese (only the charter on the appointment of the Mukachevo bishop of Ruthenians Ioann from 1491 has been preserved); 2) by the sanctification in August 1651 as the Bishop of the uniate Basilian monk Parthenii (Peter Petrovych), elected by the majority of the priests of the Diocese, by the Transylvanian Orthodox Archbishop of Alba-Julia Stefan Simonovych; 3) due to the lack of an authentic document on the conclusion of the Uzhhorod Union on April 24, 1646 (has survived only the request letter of six archdeacons to the Pope from January 1652 about the appointment of Parthenii as bishop of Mukachevo Diocese and the act of oath of 63 priests on loyalty to Eger’s Latin bishop Georgiy Yakushych and his successors found only in 2015 in Preshov by historian Fr. Juraj Gradosh). This article states that among some part of Christians of the North-Eastern committees of Royal Hungary, between which Carpathian Ruthenians predominated, to a lesser extent – Serbs and Slovaks, who lived in the northwestern part of the Mukachevo Diocese (Ung, Zemplin, Sharish, and Spish committees) under the Habsburgs rule, as a result of the Uzhhorod Union, appeared an independent Ecclesia localis et particularis graeci ritus uniti.

Abstract:
The article considers the changes in the position of the Catholic Church in Spanish society caused by the democratic transition. The beginning of the reign of Juan Carlos I was marked by the rethinking of the dialogue between the state and the Catholic Church. The king introduced the initiative to revise the provisions of the Concordat, thereby limiting the power position of the Spanish Catholic diocese. This decision looks like an intention to divide the history of Spain into Franco and democratic periods in the political and public consciousness. But the full-fledged democratization of society would have been impossible without the modernization of the church institution. The Constitution of 1978, being the main law of the country, reflects the state's attitude to religious issues, emphasizing the secular status of Spain and the pluralism of religion of the Spaniards. Despite the restrictions imposed on the Catholic Church, caused by the transition to democracy, the position of the religious institution remains high due to the pressure of the historical memory of Spain, in which Catholicism is a nation forming factor. As a result, the democratization of the Catholic Church was successful, and the church institution took a harmonious position in the conditions of democratic Spain.

The study focused on the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, in Kitui County and sought to document how project implementation strategies by Catholic Diocese of Kitui influence rural development in Kitui County of Kenya. The target population for this study was drawn out of a homogenous setting of Kitui County, Kitui East Subcounty, Nzambani and Chuluni wards and covered a total of 6939 households. The study covered a sample population of 364 out of the determined target population of 6939 households. The analysis of the data collected was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The study established that project implementation strategies by Catholic Diocese of Kitui influenced rural development in Kitui County as shown by a composite mean of 3.945. The Chi-Square test results of the association between project implementation strategies by religious organizations and rural development at Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Kitui County in Table 16, shows a Chi-Square value = 8.954, p = 0.003. The p-value is less than 0.05 and hence there is a statistically significant association between project implementation strategies and rural development at Catholic Diocese of Kitui. From the findings, the study found that if the independent variable, project implementation strategies, was held constant at zero, then the rural development in Kitui County will be 3.537. The study also found that a unit change in project implementation strategies changes would lead to a 0.843 unit change in rural development in Kitui County. The variable was significant since p-value=0.012<0.05. The study concluded that project implementation strategies had a great influence on rural development in Kitui County. The study recommends that there is need for capacity development to identify resource availability and build capacities in communities and have them assisted to undertake church based projects. The study recommends that there is need for capacity development to identify resource availability and build capacities in communities and have them assisted to undertake church based projects. Abstract:
This research examines Catholic families towards the perfection of holiness: challenges, management, and pastoral care. A Catholic family is a family based on Catholic marriage. The Catholic family itself is referred to as the ecclesia domestica or household church which has a special place in the Catholic Church. This research uses the literature study method. Literature study is research that focuses on searching and deepening supporting literature. Library sources are taken from Church documents that talk about the family and also other sources that support this research. The research results show that Catholic families face external and internal challenges. Therefore, the need to strengthen the foundation of the family in the environment and within the family itself is important in order to realize environment-based pastoral services, as is the pastoral focus of the Diocese of Surabaya. Researchers propose a family catechesis program which aims to build understanding, awareness and concrete action for families towards perfect holiness. This catechesis takes the form of a life catechesis that prioritizes everyday experiences interpreted in the light of the Gospel. This form or method of catechesis is carried out through family recollection in the environment.

Abstract:
In communist Romania, building a church was an almost impossible undertaking, and building permits were rarely granted to anyone who wanted to build a church. The state law that stipulated that a new church could only be built if an existing one ceased to exist provided the opportunity taken by the Diocese of Timisoara to build the new church in Orsova. The state authorities allowed the new church to be constructed in Orsova because of the number of believers (there were Hungarian, German and Czech believers living in the town at the time) and because the construction costs were entirely financed from abroad. The construction of the new Roman Catholic parish church and the priest’s residence in Orsova was one of the greatest achievements of the administration of Konrád Kernweisz, Ordinary of the Diocese of Timisoara – and perhaps of Communist Romania. The speech published here for the first time in print is not a sermon but was certainly delivered at the end of the consecration mass of the church in Orsova. The interesting detail about this text is that it is the first time that the symbolism of the church in Orsova was mentioned.

Abstract:
The author of the article analyzes the ministry of the Roman Catholic priest Juozas Tumas in the Diocese of Samogitia (Telšiai) in the late 19th century and discusses his position in the hierarchy of the local Church at that time. The article covers the years that Tumas spent in the Samogitian (Telšiai) Seminary in Kaunas (1888-1893) and his first clerical appointment in Mintauja (Jelgava) (1894-1895). The policy of secular government towards the Roman Catholic clergy is also discussed in the article. The author uses several sources, such as documents of the Roman Catholic Church and secular government, as well as ego-documents. She clarifies certain historiographical details that have been prevalent in the research of Tumas’s biography, and interprets new archival data. In the conclusions, the author of the article argues that from the very first year, Tumas belonged to a subgroup of students who constituted a minority in the seminary. The subgroup was characterized by higher education acquired in gymnasiums and progymnasiums. It also stood out for its social attitudes. Its members were active in the society and had been critical of the ecclesiastical authority and the state which favored the Orthodox Church. In the context of the appointments of other newly ordained priests, Tumas’ work in Mintauja did not stand out.

The Catholic Church of Ruteng Diocese has declared 2020 as the Pastoral Year of Holistic Tourism. The Church wants tourism to be an opportunity for Catholics to build the common good, and promote global brotherhood and unity. This Tourism Pastoral should be implemented in parishes, sub-parish, regions, and members of the Basic Ecclesiastical Communities (BEC) throughout the diocese. To introduce and implement tourism pastoral programs to the whole people, a Community Service Program (CSP) was designed. The CSP subject and partner were the BECs leaders in the Bethany Community of Santu Mikael Kumba Parish. The goal was for partners to recognize the nature of the 2022 Holistic Tourism Pastoral Year, recognize strategic programs and be willing to implement programs within their respective communities and BECs. The CSP method used consists of 3 main stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. As a result, the CSP socialization has been completed. The target partners were enlightened by the socialization and understood the work program of the Catholic Church better. They were also ready to implement existing programs and develop regional internal programs and KBGs. This program was recommended to be carried out more often, both in the same theme and in different contexts and themes.

Abstract:
In this paper we focus our attention on the changes that took place after the First World War in the life of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Alba Iulia led by Bishop Gusztáv Károly Mailáth. This diocese was the only new diocese in Romania to retain all the historical territory it had previously held in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy; all the others having been folded after the Great War. The specific character of the Roman Catholic Church in Transylvania was the ethnic factor, so the main problem became how to integrate the eparchy among the Romanian ecclesiastical administrative units while preserving its religious and ethnic characteristics. We are witnessing the beginning of a "diplomatic game" between the Romanian Government, the Holy See and Bishop Mailáth, and in this context the stake was the preservation of confessional and ethnic identity in a new political framework. The culmination of the integration process was the signing of the Concordat in 1927, but the road to the completion of the inter-state document contains many interesting facts that help us understand the formation of the identity issue.

Abstract:
Like the entire Diocese of Vilnius, the Cathedral Chapter of Vilnius drew considerably from the experience of the ecclesiastical environment of the Diocese of Cracow, which had already existed for four centuries when the Vilnius Chapter began and was establishing and organizing its own institutions and structures. Although the Diocese of Vilnius had remained part of the organizational structures of the ecclesial province of Gniezno from the beginning of the fifteenth century, it looked to Wawel and not to Wzgórze Lecha’s example. From the fourteenth century onward, Vilnius and Cracow were the capital cities of the Polish-Lithuanian state. For this reason, it was fitting that both of the dioceses, including their cathedral chapters, were organized, looked, and functioned similarly. When the local Church was being established and organized in Lithuania, Cracow naturally served as a model for Vilnius because the local church in Cracow had already existed for more than four centuries and was, therefore, more organized, dynamic, and greatly exposed to the world in every respect than the ecclesiastical environment of Gniezno. This was also due to the fact that the Diocese of Cracow was at the center of royal power: it supported the throne of the Commonwealth directly; it sanctioned the court’s actions; it provided the monarch with expert and intellectual help necessary to conduct internal politics and engage in diplomacy. It is also significant that the person responsible for establishing the Church in Lithuania was, in fact, Lithuanian—King Władysław II Jagiełło was the first Jagiellonian to ascend the Polish throne. His successors continued his policies in the religious realm in Lithuania. It is not surprising, therefore, the Jagiełłoes were solicitous to ensure that Vilnius enjoyed the proper place in the hierarchy of Polish-Lithuanian dioceses under their jurisdiction in accordance with the belief that “Vilnius annot stand out from Cracow.” The Lithuanian King Władysław II Jagiełło provided materially for the Church in Vilnius, and he ensured that the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania had the proper position within the structures of the Polish-Lithuanian state, which has becoming increasingly more integrated. Although the Diocese of Vilnius drew from the Diocese of Cracow’s example, it did not blindly imitate it. After it had been established and organized, the Vilnius Cathedral Chapter was able to develop its own models, unique identity, and manner of functioning as a completely self-sufficient corporation that no longer needed to refer so strongly to the model of Cracow.

The article reveals the process of formation of the Roman Catholic Church in Volhynia, and special attention is paid to the interwar period.Roman Catholic centres were in Volhynia from ancient times, and have become an integral part of its history. As the city was inhabited by many different nationalities and, consequently, many different religious denominations, the city managed to maintain peace and respect for religious freedom for each of the communities. However, during the reign of the Russian Empire in Volhynia, the situation became more complicated because the tsarist government did not want to support previous agreements with the Church. After the October coup and the war, vast territories of the Lutsk-Zhytomyr diocese were divided between Poland and Soviet Russia by a treaty signed in 1921 in Riga. As Lutsk was a part of the then Poland, in 1925 Pope Pius XI revived a separate diocese of Lutsk. On December 14, 1925, Bishop Adolf Petro Shelonzhek was appointed Bishop of Lutsk. Among the various forms of association of the Catholic laity in the Church, one can distinguish associations and organisations – whether they are based on canonical or civil law on associations – and informal circles: religious movements, groups, circles and small groups. The difficult situation of the Church in Poland after World War II was not conducive to the creation of organisations whose activities would be approved by both the church authorities and the state authorities. If, however, quasi-ecclesiastical or religious organisations were to emerge that were recognised by the civil authorities, these were unfortunately organisations that had very little in common with the good of the Church and the faithful. Against this backdrop, the Catholic Intelligence Clubs were a kind of phenomenon. They enjoyed the approval of the Church authorities and, to some extent, the unintentional recognition of the state authorities, and sought to strengthen religious education by forming people and communities in the Christian spirit, shaping social attitudes, creating and deepening Christian culture, intellectual development and various forms of charitable activity. Three Catholic Intelligentsia Clubs were established in the Tarnów Diocese: in Nowy Sącz, Tarnów and Mielec.

Abstract:
Toward the end of the last century, particularly during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, hundreds of Catholic priests distanced themselves from the Church or decided to leave the ecclesiastical institution. This fact, unusual at that time, is the focal point of the present article, which is the result of an extensive investigation into the renunciation of the priesthood by a significant number of priests in the Barcelona diocese. The author addresses the question why such deeply committed members of an institution, as are the priests of the Catholic Church, decided to leave the institution at that moment. The author discusses some aspects of the social context in which this process took place and offers some explanations for these significant departures.

Abstract:
AbstractThe Cariri region is the most isolated and poor part of the rural zone of the diocese of Campina Grande in the Paraiba state of Brazil. The Catholic Church has been present here for a relatively short time: 335 years. Moreover the region has an isolated context and this favors conservatism so that only fundamental changes have an impact. These facts make the Cariri an interesting region for a case study about how Catholicism develops. I distinguish five periods, which are described with religious key words and situated in the socio-cultural context. This classification is a schematization: different types of Catholicism often exist together. It is obvious that the dominant features of Catholicism change with time, but in the mainstream of the fifth period we see a small revolution. Now there are not only influences in the socio cultural context and factors in the Church itself that cause changes, but there are also influences of powerful newcomers, the evangelical churches. Their main impact is that many people have left the Catholic Church and are going to live their old faith in a new form. The Catholic Church is searching for adequate ways to respond to this phenomenon.

Abstract:
During the interwar period the Catholic Church on Polish Upper Silesia tried to encourage the intelligence which came there to be politically active in the religious area. The Church was aware that natives of Upper Silesia would modify their own posture by imitating customs, manner, and even putting on clothes which were worn by the intellectual elite. The aim was to use external signs to manifest attachment to religious values. In the meantime, those who were required to be committed to religious values, defended themselves from this kind of commitment and stood for more liberal rules very often. One of few who was ready to take the burden and realize the conception of the Church was the president of Katowice appeal court – Tadeusz Stark. He worked closely with the authorities of the Silesian diocese; he was a marshal of the III Silesian Catholic congress. He also directed Catholic League, and was active on the parish level. His example was often mentioned in public disputes with these who presented the intelligence on Upper Silesia as the camp which wanted to fight with the Church in the area of Upper Silesia.

Abstract:
The presented article describing the administrative structure of the Dioceses of Lutsk and Zhytomyr in the fall of 1831 is part of the text describing the state of these dioceses in the light of schematism published for 1832. The description of the Dioceses of Lutsk and Zhytomyr and the previously published description of the Kamieniec diocese are part of a project aimed at presenting the condition of the Latin rite in Russia before the outbreak of the November Uprising. The fall of the uprising accelerated the actions of the Russian authorities aimed at limiting the activities of the Catholic Church and subordinating it to the state. The time of relative freedom of the Church in the tsarist state ended then, as well as the time of unhampered pastoral activity conducted in Polish. The text describes the boundaries of both dioceses, the deanery, parishes, male and female monasteries operating in the diocese, and the churches that functioned at that time. The Lutsk diocese was reactivated in 1798 with the capital in Lutsk, and the diocese of Zhytomyr was established at that time, with the capital in Żhytomyr (connected by a personal union), following the decision of the authorities recognized by the Holy See, they covered the area of the Volyn governorate. In 1831, the Lutsk diocese was divided into ten deaneries, and the Zh?ytomyr diocese – into two. At that time, there were 120 parishes in both dioceses (113 in the Lutsk diocese and 17 in the Zhytomyr diocese). The diocesan clergy conducted pastoral ministry and administered the benefice in 84 parishes, religious in 36. There were 63 monasteries and religious houses, 55 male orders and congregations, and 8 female congregations.

Abstract:
The diagram for the Kamieniec diocese published in 1831 presents the condition of the diocese in the fall of 1830, i.e. before the November Uprising. Describing the state of the diocese at that time shows us the situation before the tsarist repressions, which completely changed the situation of the Catholic Church of both rites in the Russian Empire. The previous articles presented the organizational status of the diocese, in the present clergy. The editors of schematics included priests incardinated in the diocese. They did not provide the names of the monks who managed the parishes run by the religious churches. At the end of 1830, 145 priests belonged to the chancel of the Kamieniec diocese, 133 of whom (91.7%) were directly involved in the ministry. The largest groups of the clergy were parish administrators (presbyteries and administrators), as well as vicars and chaplains. The first group consisted of 67 people (46.2% of all priests), and the second one – 51 (35.2% of all priests). Most of the clergy were under 50 years of age. They came from their diocese and were educated in secondary schools and seminaries in Podolia and the neighboring lands. With few exceptions, they belonged to the nobility and were Poles.

Abstract:
Mathew's varied ecclesiastical progress presents a fascinating case study of an episcopate detached from a main-stream Christian community and alerts us to the danger of solely considering ‘episcopal lineage‘ as the litmus test for apostolicity. Mathew was born in France in 1852 and baptised a Roman Catholic; due to his mother's scruples he was soon re-baptised in the Anglican Church. He studied for the ministry in the Episcopal Church of Scotland, but sought baptism again in the Church of Rome, into which he was ordained as a priest in Glasgow in 1877. He became a Dominican in 1878, but only persevered a year, moving around a number of Catholic dioceses: Newcastle, Plymouth, Nottingham and Clifton. Here he came across immorality, and became a Unitarian. He next turned to the Church of England and the Diocese of London, but was soon in trouble for officiating without a licence. In 1890 he put forward his claim to Garter King of Arms for the title of 4th Earl of Llandaff of Thomastown, Co. Tipperary. He renounced the Church of England in 1899 because of vice. After founding a zoo in Brighton, which went bankrupt, he appeared in court in connection with a charge of embezzlement. He then became a Roman Catholic again, now as a layman.

Abstract:
The article presents the participation of the Częstochowa clergy in the so-called patriot priests movement. It gives the number of priests belonging to the District Commission of Priests in Katowice, the District Commission of Priests in Łódź, the Commission of Catholic Intellectuals and Activists, the Commission of Catholic Clergy and Lay Activists, it brings closer the motives of their involvement, the functions they performed in central and regional structures, it characterizes the forms of political and social activity. The 'patriotic priests' from Czestochowa actively participated in all propaganda actions concerning, among others, the so-called 'struggle for peace'. They also condemned, according to official rhetoric, the activities of the Church Caritas and sat on the new provincial boards established by the communists. They joined the fight to establish permanent church administration in the so-called Recovered Territories. They condemned the priests accused in the trial of the Krakow curia and spoke positively about the decree of the State Council of 9 February 1953 concerning the filling of church posts. They supported, and often themselves actively participated in social actions, e. g. sowing, harvesting, threshing, anti-potato beetle actions. The catechists instilled in the youth a respect for the state authorities, a love of work and the need to make an effort to implement the 6-year plan. An important aspect of their activity was writing and participation in the work of national councils at the provincial and district level.

Abstract:
The study deals with three specific synodality processes, which the Czech Catholic Church organised in the 19th and 20th century. The first instance is Prague Province Synod in 1860, which was followed by other diocese synods in the second half of the 19th century. The second process consisted in repeated gatherings of Land Syndicate of Catholic Clergy, a professional organisation of clerics, at the turn of the 19the and 20th century, which originally started as an effort to reform ecclesiastical art, but later formulated reform goals regarding ecclesiastical lifestyle as well. The third processes revolved around the Plenary Assembly of the Czech Catholic Church in years 1997 to 2005. The study gives a description of the proceedings and outcomes of respective synodality processes and also offers an analysis of their strong and weak points and in the conclusion it formulates several principles which play decisive role in the success or failure of the whole endeavour.
