Full textBy going against traditional productions, the authorial reappropriations of the photo-novel are a salient example of a mutation and an attempt to legitimize an editorial form marked by industrial and commercial origins. Despite this rediscovery of the photo-novel by legitimate culture, such works see their access to the market hampered by the segmentation of the editorial space. Situated at the heart of the contradiction between innovation and standardization, the "author" photo-novel questions the current divisions of the book market. Its specificity lies less in its lack of symbolic recognition than in its absence of institutional existence. Rather than asking the question of the downgrading of a genre considered minor, this thesis therefore focuses on the classification of these works in the nomenclatures established by book stakeholders. It is based on a corpus of 110 titles, published or republished between 1998 and 2023 on the French market, and on around twenty interviews carried out with authors and publishers. The photo-novel is analyzed as an unstabilized editorial category which brings together a heterogeneous production at the crossroads of the sectors of photography, comics and literature. This border position of the photo-novel sheds light on its editorial dynamics and gives rise to specific strategies among producers. Therefore, the revival of the photo-novel allows us to explore the question of the institution and transgression of editorial conventions and their role in the organization and transformation of the book industry
