Full textThis thesis deals with the processes of social categorization during childhood. This topic has aroused wide interest in many disciplines such as pedagogy, anthropology, psychology. As for sociology, although the topic represents a central theme for the discipline from an epistemological point of view, there is still a lack of empirical research on childhood, especially in Italy. Therefore, an empirical, experimental study has been carried out during the academic year 2018-2019 in the cities of Florence and Prato. The sample includes about 96 families from three schools. The schools are divided into three socio-economic levels: upper, middle and lower-middle, according to the ESCS (Economic, Social and Cultural Status indicator has been provided by the Italian Ministry of Education). The study employs a mixed methods approach. Children, aged seven, as well as their parents have been interviewed using photo-elicitation interview. A survey has been also used to question children’s families in order to reconstruct their socio-demographic and socio-economic profile. The images show real people that differ in gender, age, ethnicity, religious background, as well as in socio-economic and socio-professional characteristics (taking into account the main ethnic, ethno-religious minorities and the main socio-professional groups present in Italy in 2019). The results achieved revolve around the following macro-themes: the role played by the common sense language in standardizing the respondents's answers; the role played by the material culture when the respondents try to justify «how they use social categories". And finally, the theme of "social reproduction" of the maternal habitus (therefore the coincidence - high - in the use of the same social categories of mothers and their children).

Full textThe study aims to analyze the controversial legal construction of the theory of “social contact”, tracing the historical evolution of this figure, going back to the Justinian law, in which one of the sources of the obligations was the "quasi ex contractu", and then considering the '40s German doctrine, that developed the theory of "contractual relations in fact" (so-called "Faktische Vertragsverhältnisse"), up to the most recent guidelines expressed by the Italian doctrine and jurisprudence . In our legal system the “social contact” institute does not find an express legislative reference, having been developed by the case law to tackle the problematic hypothesis of legal relationships which lie midway between contract and tort. This concept refers to a contact between persons not related by an existing contractual relationship and which is characterized by expectations of a person to the other because of the professional status of one of them. The matter has raised many doubts among the interpreters, because of the application of the theory causes the application of the contractual liability to relationships that does not have a contract as their genetic moment. So many criticisms have been made to this theory, first of all the one expressed by those who fear an unlimited extension of the cases falling under the contractual liability, with the result that its abusive use ends up to convert any tort liability in contractual liability. Particular attention is dedicated to medical malpractice liability, that has mainly held the legal experts interest giving rise to a vigorous interpretive debate. Once have been analyzed critical profiles of the institute, the study goes on to investigate the matter the medical liability - placed by the jurisprudence in the category of social contact - up to look for a different interpretation that recognizes the existence of the contract in favor of the third party. The comparison with Scottish legal system shows that other systems has similiar legal structure of social contact. Particularly, from the comparison between the Italian social contact and the Anglo-Saxon concept of "proximity" emerges that if, from one side, there is undoubtedly some distance between the two systems, from the other, in both cases the contact liability was expressly acknowledged, although in different forms.

Abstract: This Doctoral Thesis, defended at the Graduate Program in Social Work from the State University - UNESP-Franca/SP, aimed to discuss and reflect on the appropriation of Ricardo Antunes's studies by the Brazilian Social Work, prioritizing its two classics: "Goodbye to work? Essay on the metamorphosis and the centrality of the working world" and "The meanings of work: essay on the affirmation and negation of work", in order to observe the contribution of these works for Social Work. For this purpose, initially made up a preliminary foray from papers published in the most important events of the brazilian Social Work: CBAS (2007 and 2010) and ENPESS (2008 and 2010), taking as a criterion, the works based on the two aforementioned works, in order to verify how social workers have appropriated the complex discussion about the working class, especially its centrality, questioning the revolutionary power of the working class. Secondly, we made an empirical research with semi-structured interview with Ricardo Antunes, with a view to critically clarify the issues noted in the appropriation of his work and thus, contribute to the important debate about the work in the Social Work category. The results showed the relevance of the works of Ricardo Antunes for Social Work, becoming a landmark in the debate on the centrality of the work category in contemporary society. Finally, it is expected that this thesis contribute to the production of knowledge in social work (and related fields), from this theoretical discussion relevant and pertinent to the current category, in order to respond to the endogenous and reductionist vision which persists in Social Work. It is intended also to highlight the importance of the works of Ricardo Antunes as a watershed in the social sciences and humanities, emphasizing the real possibility of human emancipation enunciated by Karl Marx in the nineteenth century

Abstract: Hannah Arendt brought a new perspective to the formulation and understanding of contemporary political problems. If, on the one hand, she was able to show the theoretical inadequacy of the twentieth century in front of unprecedented political events, having to develop new theoretical strategies capable of meeting the challenge of thinking about politics in her time, on the other, such a task could not be performed without such novelties were harshly criticized by his contemporaries before or after his death in 1975. In this work, we will see that these criticisms are developed from two aspects: the poor understanding of theoretical novelties prepared by Arendt and the treatment given by the author to the relationship between social and political. In response to the first aspect we will seek to build the notion of "Categories of Validity Exemplary", a term that attempts to bring together the important influences of Kant, Benjamin and Socrates to Arendt thought. Second, we will note how the political categories of Hannah Arendt can be thought of in a scenario of realization of the modern organization of sphere of appearances, that is, the society. I shall argue that the author hits the point to the functionalization of the political by economy, although it is necessary to reinterpret theoretical aspects that leads it to the above conclusion to enable us to think politics from social conflicts

Full textThis work takes as its object of study the operationalization of the concept of classes by defining cutoff variables for classifying the population in social groups. The study is based upon theoretical and methodological of critical epidemiology is based on an understanding of health and illness by focusing the explanation of health determinants, work - the capitalist production - and subordinated to it, life - consumption under the command of the capitalist accumulation process. This research aims to assess the overall potential of work-life variables - social reproduction - to show class inequalities and support the operationalization of the concept of classes in contemporary society. Its specific objectives: a) take a household poll on the variables of social reproduction of families living in different social spaces in a city in the metropolitan region, b) analyze the behavior of these social reproduction variables on their ability to form groups with similar forms of working and living; c) construct a social reproduction index able to show the differences of social reproduction among families in micro space. It started from the framework proposed in the literature to form homogenous social groups, defining a set of 34 variables on the ways of working and living, which were collected in a sample of 589 families from Santo André. The sample was proportionally defined according to four social groups from Santo André - the central group, almost central, peripheral and almost peripheral - a priori divided by the previous study. Thus, all the families divided into social groups were interviewed using a questionnaire with variables of production and consumption. These variables were subjected to statistical analysis which showed that in this scenario, the dimension of the forms of work was defined by the activity status of the household head, occupation qualification, and preparatory courses for the job. The dimension of the forms of living was defined by the variables: residence ownership, access to public sewage service, legal access to water and light, church services as a leisure activity, payment of property taxes and number of rooms for sleeping. Then, we generated four new groups. Based on these powerful variables to characterize the groups, we were able to build the Social Reproduction Index - SRI - able to show the social reproduction differences among families in the micro-space of the area covered by a Basic Health Unit. It has to be noticed that the variables were not analyzed from their behavior in the four isolated groups, but from the relationship among them and the way this relationship is given in each group. The SRI seems to be a powerful tool for the classification of families in order to enable the mapping of social reproduction profiles in micro space that along with profiles of health and disease provides the construction of the epidemiological profiles able to bolster both the planning within the health service and the planning of public policies aimed to the social determinants of health-disease process.
