Abstract:
Paraules clau: Segle XIX, Nom i identitat de la llengua catalana, Renaixença Valenciana, Benvingut Oliver, Joan Baptista Perales Abstract: This paper analyses the reaction of the Valencian scholars Benvingut Oliver and Joan Baptista Perales against postulates on the Catalan Romance philology in the middle of the nineteenth century. Moreover, this work tries to relate Oliver and Perales position with others scholars and writers of the Reinaixença Valenciana movement and the awareness of linguistic community shared with Catalan speakers from Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and North Catalonia. From the middle of the nineteenth century the German romanists found the Romance philology. They established “Catalan” as the name of the language of the Catalan-speaking areas. Even this is different from Occitan and has nothing to do with Limousin, which was known by this name since the early sixteenth century. Regarding the identity and the name of the Catalan language, these assumptions are quickly received and assumed in Catalonia. Although in the Balearic Islands and North Catalonia they were received positively with very few exceptions. Whereas in Valencia, only a minority of scholars like Benvingut Oliver and Joan B. Perales –among others– accepted and disseminated these postulates. Abstract:
Masterworks of Antoni Gaudí as the Manifestation of Catalanism?Catalonia is an autonomous community in Spain, possessing a unique culture. This is meticulously preserved, not only by intellectuals, but also by its citizens, who hold their individual language, common history and traditions in the highest esteem. It is the perfect example of a nation without a state, truly dedicated to the peaceful struggle for survival of its exceptional individuality. The article explains how the historical relationship between Catalonia and Spain has awakened the Catalonian sense of individuality and the will to fight for its rights, leading to the creation of a separate political idea – Catalanism. For the major part of the article the author presents the views on the Catalan issue as expressed by Antoni Gaudí – one of the most distinguished of Catalans.

ABSTRACT: This paper aims at updating the scholarship on the 14th-century Catalan translation of the French moral compendium known as Somme le roi. The relevant similarities between the texts demonstrate that the Catalan version directly depends on the Occitan translation, known as Libre de vicis et de vertutz. Therefore, the paper illustrates both the Catalan and the Occitan textual traditions and compares the results of my critical edition of the Libre de vicis et vertutz with Wittlin’s study (1983) on the Catalan text. This examination will focus on two main critical issues: the reductio ad unum of all the Catalan manuscripts and the choice to include a Catalan manuscript in the Occitan recensio.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Independence Movement in Catalonia and Its Significance for Catalans in the Second Decade of the 21st Century The paper focuses on the issues of the independence movement in Catalonia in the second decade of the 21st century. The aim of this study is to explore the evolution of Catalonia’s separatist aspirations in this period in terms of politics and especially society, and thus the position of Catalans towards this phenomenon. A significant element of the author’s considerations is the demonstration and analysis of the specificity and factors determining contemporary Catalan separatism, as well as concerning the context of perceiving Catalans as a nation. The independence process in the second decade of the 21st century, including treatment of events such as the judgment of the Spanish Constitutional Court in 2010, the independence referendum in 2017, or the trial and judgment of Catalan politicians in 2019, taken into account by the author, hold considerable importance for this work. The key part of the paper is to present the issues of the independence movement in the discussed period in terms of society; its emerging role in the Catalan society, and the impact of the activities and actions of Catalans themselves on the politics and development of the region’s separatist aspirations.

This article discusses «migrant literature» in Catalonia, looking at the particular case of Najat El Hachmi, a Catalan writer of Moroccan origin. Here we analyse her first book, the auto-biographical Jo també sóc catalana (“I Am Also Catalan”) by examining how the migratory experience is expressed from a linguistic, cultural and gender perspective. We also compare her case with that of other writers, especially those belonging to the so-called «Francophone Maghreb» literature.

The political tendencies and the emergence of Catalanism are reflected in the founding and organization of a Centre Català (Catalan Center) and a Societat de Beneficiència de Naturals de Catalunya(Charity Society for Catalans). The struggles for the preservation and promotion of the Catalan language in the Catalan-speaking community indicate a growing awareness at the end of the 19th century, culminating in the 1920s, and show a parallel evolution to that of Catalonia in terms of linguistic debate.

Paraules clau: llengua catalana, historiografia lingüística, literatura de viatges, estatus i nom de la llengua catalana, usos lingüísticsAbstract: This paper examines the descriptions of the Catalan language by foreign travellers who travelled through the Catalan-speaking territories in the last third of the 19th century. It also analyses their observations and linguistic perceptions of the Catalan language, as well as the language spoken by the inhabitants of these territories. Regarding the second objective, we are particularly interested in knowing if they recognise that the language spoken by Valencians is the same as that of the Catalans, Majorcans, and other neighbours of the Catalan-speaking world; what position occupy the Catalan language among the rest of the Romance languages; if they consider that Catalan has the same status as Spanish and French or if they considered it was a dialect. In many cases they do not talk about the language in such detail because the purpose of their travels was different, but often from their different descriptions and statements we can deduce their positions and opinions to answer these questions. In the late 19th century, when Romance philology was a recently created discipline and it was not fully accepted that Catalan is an independent Romance language. Keywords: Catalan language, linguistic historiography, travel literature, status and name of the Catalan language, language uses

Abstract:
Since the Franco regime came to an end in 1978, the main political and social forces in Catalonia have pursued a model of intercultural relations that aims to protect Catalan cultural identity and at the same time to incorporate the various different waves of migrants who came to Catalonia from other regions of Spain during the course of the 20th century and who now represent close to 40% of the population. Moreover, during the negotiations for the new Spanish constitution in 1978, these political forces in Catalonia accepted a new political relationship with Spain with the constitution of the Catalan autonomous region. During the course of the past 15 years, two major factors have become increasingly apparent. First, there has been a further wave of migration from other countries and continents, in particular from Muslim countries (13.6% in 2016 compared with 2.9% in 2000). Second, the place of Catalonia within Spain has been called into question for a number of different political, economic, social, and cultural reasons. In 2017, a considerable number of Catalans, close to 50%, mobilized to demand the independence of their country and attempted to proclaim and constitute the “Republic of Catalonia,” thus breaking the constitutional law in force throughout Spain. This breach of the law brought about a response from the Spanish security forces and justice system, which resulted in the suspension of the Catalan autonomous government and the calling of elections. The object of this study is to analyze the impact of the recent migrations and the current political situation on the model of intercultural relations that has governed Catalan cultural identity in recent times. The principal objectives of the model have been to ensure the civil unity of Catalonia, to safeguard Catalan language and culture, and to promote respect for cultures of citizens from other regions of Spain, all within a context of mutual dialogue and exchange. The thesis of this article is that this model, which pursues integration and unity, is in danger of breaking down as a result of the new phenomena.

Abstract:
This work builds up on the fact that the word « immigrant » is present on the political and intellectual Catalan discourse since the beginning of the XXth century to reference Spaniards coming to live in Catalonia. The appellation chosen by this discourse to name immigrants coming from other regions of Spain is openly contradictory with its definition that implies crossing a national frontier. The distinction regarding place of origin allows for anotherone: Identity. This difference is created and sustained by these two groups living under the same territory and sharing the Spanish nationality, but whose place of birth is inside or outside Catalonia. Developing an image of the « immigrant » that subsisted until the XXI st century, the catalan discourse insists on the fact that this flow of people come from an outside. Expressing oneself over this subject allows for an original vision of the Catalan society, understood as multicultural, bicultural or as a unique community. The common point between this different ways of conceiving catalanity resides on the affirmation of the receptor group ´s coherence and autonomy and its capacity to host others, in spite of the fear that may arise. Thinking about the immigration phenomenon enables the discourse to affirm its own identity and the existence of a catalan nation. The image of the newcomer is immerse in between the classification struggles and appears as an instrument that allows for an imposition of a national ideology or a way of conceiving the catalan society in the political or academic discourse. We are witnessing a slippage from the first one towards the second, synonym of a transition to historical memory of a presentation that was controversial all along the XXth century. Finally, research has shown the implications of the mentioned Spanish « immigration » in the debate surrounding the catalan identity construction. First off, by its presence and the debate it creates, forcing the interdiscursive system to place a series of power relationships aiming at defining its own identity. Also participating physically, as being visible as « immigration », taking a key role in the process of building identity, as it was the case during the Diadaof 1977. It was visible as well in the catalan political sphere : Francisco Candel is an example among others. The phenomenon ´s participation during the debate created by the political and intellectual discourse is made visible also through contribution of the generations born in Catalonia. As we went along the analysis, we realized they were no longer considered as « immigrants » nor as a problem but as a contribution to Catalonia. The second generation is active in its reconnaissance work of « immigration », especially through the scientific studies starting on the eighties. The observation of the names of the universities who participated in institutionalizing the representation of the « immigrant » allows us to further pursue this affirmation, that has to be confirmed or infirmed by complementary studies.

Fullana, Olga. "La gramàtica inèdita de Pau Cardellach i Busquets." Doctoral thesis, Universitat de Girona, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/398239.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the edition and study of the Catalan Grammar of Pau Cardellach i Busquets (1818-1879), an unpublished work of which there is only one copy, handwritten, today at the University of Girona. Cardellach's grammar, which only known by indirect references, is an original work that exemplifies a different outlook on the Catalan language than those we knew so far in the nineteenth century. Its study helps to better define the late process of grammatical encoding of Catalan, and enriches the history of philology of Catalan. The necessary work to contextualize this book has also demanded a thorough study of its author and the circumstances that led to his grammar. Therefore, the thesis is divided internally into three sections: a) the bio-bibliographic study of Pau Cardellach and the circumstances in which he produced his Catalan Grammar; b) the critical edition of the work, with attention to all material respects, to the textual problems and to interventions to make it available to scholars; and c) the detailed contents and peculiarities of grammar, and their relevance to contemporary grammatical context study

Abstract:
This dissertation is devoted to the study and partial edition of the Gazophylacium Catalano-Latinum by Joan Lacavalleria Dulac, a Catalan-Latin lexicographic thesaurus published in Barcelona in 1696 that constitutes the most extensive and exhaustive collection of Catalan lexicon of the seventeenth century. This work begins with a historical search around the members of Lacavalleria family and their time. Secondly, the sources used by Lacavalleria are identified and the extent of their followup is studied in the elaboration of the Gazophylacium. Thirdly, the elements that make up the structure of the thesaurus and the nature of the vocabulary it contains are analyzed. Fourth, an account on the reception of the thesaurus and its subseqüent influence over Catalan lexicography and linguistics is given. Fifth, the adopted criteria for the critical edition of the selected texts are reported. Finally, I offer the texts edited according to the ecdotical criteria aforementioned

Full text
Abstract:
Catalan is an autochthonous minority language within the Spanish state that is undergoing a programme of linguistic normalisation which is widely regarded as a successful model. Today, its progress is being challenged by globalisation, mass migration, and the sociolinguistic agencies of new migrants, in particular Spanishspeaking Latin Americans, who are allochthonous speakers of marked varieties of the official language of the Spanish state. The micro-level focus of the study is on how Spanish-speaking Latin Americans are constructing Catalan: how Catalan is being incorporated into repertoire (in-group and inter-group), and how and why individuals are forming conflicting constructions of being addressed in Catalan. At the macro level, the focus is on how policies of linguistic normalisation of the Catalan language are responding to the challenges of globalisation, and to the sociolinguistic agencies of new migrants, especially Spanishspeakers. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 44 informants, and recordings made of the interactions of 11 of them. The focus of the data collection was on [i] Spanish-speaking Latin Americans' interactions involving Catalan, [ii] on the paths of migration and of identity formation along which individuals' epistemologies evolve, consolidate and transform, and [iii] on informants' opinions about language policies. The study is framed around 'structure and agency' (Giddens, 1984), and the data analysed according to a view of language as recursive social practice, which links the macro and the micro, seeing individuals' agencies as the outcomes of social structures and also as engendering change in these structures. Central to individuals' recursive language practice is knowledgeability and reflexivity (Giddens, 1984) as they interact in a heteroglossic Catalonia (Pujolar, 2001), and negotiate codeswitching norms of practice that are specific to Catalonia, in particular an 'accommodation norm' (Woolard, 1989) which involves Catalan speakers often switching to Castilian with interlocutors who do not look or sound Catalan.

Abstract:
We believe that this doctoral thesis is the result ofthe evolution ofthe Catalan question and the nationalist ideology. Therefore, the main objective ofthis thesis is to culminate the commemoration ofthe 1714. Tercentenary held in Catalonia in 2014, with aspecial emphasis on the rereading regarding the most relevant facts ofthe identity ofthe Catalan people from 1624 until today. Therefore, rediscovering the past through memories ofevents that make reference to the “abuse” received by Catalonia from the Spain of those years. The pillars on which this research is based are the following: A) Brief mention ofthe origins ofthe Catalan question (XVII-XVIII) and deepening in XX and XXI B) Commemoration of the 1714 Tercentenary: Events held in Catalonia during 2014.

Abstract:
Chinese students have constituted one of the largest groups in the study-abroad community. Catalonia, as a region with abundant academic resources, has also become a popular study-abroad destination for them. Catalonia is a bilingual society with two official languages, Catalan and Spanish, in which students have contact with the Catalan language. So far there have been very few studies devoted to examining the learning of Catalan by the Chinese community in Catalonia. In this study, we try to fill this gap by exploring the Catalan-learning situation by Chinese graduate students in Catalonia who have Spanish and English as additional languages. An ethnographic study is carried out and we have collected data that includes semi-structured interviews, screenshots, and screen recordings of their learning of Catalan in digital environments. With the data collected, in the first place, we analyze their motivation with the L2MSS theoretical framework as well as their identity and attitudes towards Catalan and the sociolinguistic situation in Catalonia. Secondly, we also analyze their learning forms (formal, informal learning, with technology, etc.) and the difficulties they have encountered during the learning process. Finally, we analyze the strategies and resources they have used and their needs in learning this minority language. We conclude that Chinese graduate students in Catalonia are motivated to learn Catalan by both ideal L2 self and ought-to L2 self. Most of them have positive or neutral attitudes towards Catalan and they support the protection and revitalization of minority languages. Despite the neutral-positive attitudes, most of the participants only have the Chinese identity without cultivating new identities. When learning Catalan in the classroom, the participants perceive the difference between the teaching methods between China and Catalonia, and the cultural difference between Chinese and European peers perceived in the classroom also affects their motivation and attitudes. When they learn Catalan outside the classroom, they take advantage of all the available resources and different strategies to facilitate their learning. However, they have also encountered some difficulties during the learning of Catalan, such as the lack of Chinese-Catalan linguistic resources, the lack of motivation, and the lack of opportunities to practice oral expression.

Abstract:
The word "goigs" designates the poems in the catalan vernacular which, since the end of the middle ages in catalonia, have been sung during church services to celebrate the "joys" of the virgin and the saints. These joys are the seven joys of the virgin, from her salutation by the angel to her assumption, and the saint's celestial joys in compensation for their sufferings. The "goigs" are distributed in the form of printed leaflets with the hagiographic poem, the appropriate verse and prayer from the latin service, and the image of the saint. The "goigs" are a holy writing of the angel's word, adapted to the historical conditions which are as much literary as social or spiritualtheir meaning dealing with death and transition may be discerned by the analysis of their textual configuration, of the saint's image, of the user's position before the altar. Performed by a legitimate officiant, thanks to a gift of money, before the saint's "powerful body", relic or miraculous statue, they form part of the symbolical exchanges bearing on ideas of death and made by each social parish group, according to the utopia proposed by the church. To immobilize the angel's word, the "goigs" cannot exist without bodies: the bodies of the saints comply with the writing's bodies of the leaflets, where the written letter splits into a projected figure of the saints, and the immobile bodies of the faithful

Abstract:
The aim of the doctoral thesis presented under the title of "L'obra teatral completa de Miquel de Palol i Felip (1885-1965). Estudi i edició" is to present a study and a critical edition of seven theatrical texts by Miquel de Palol (1885-1965), an author from Girona who, after starting out on an ambitious and promising career as a poet, storyteller, dramatist, journalist and having formed part of the modernist group of Girona at the start of the 20th century, has been relegated, from an historical point of view, to provincialism. Starting from a historical contextualisation of the state of Catalan theatre from the end of the 19th century to the 1930s, the figure of the Girona playwright and his theatrical work, which, with some interruptions, spans a period of more than thirty years, has been located and positioned within that context. Thus it presents, from an historical perspective, the literary study of each of the pieces that make up the dramatic corpus of Palol, a particular universe that often engages, above all in the salon theatre production of the 1920s, with the concerns of the bourgeois audience which filled the halls for their premieres. Other works, of youth and maturity, respond to other, undoubtedly more personal, ambitions without putting aside the writer’s unique style and which means that, almost a century later, one can draw a transversal line which, from a narrative point of view, unites all the pieces. In addition to the study described above, the reception the premieres of the works received in the press has been reviewed and, as a consequence, a more accurate portrait has been able to be drawn of the dramaturgy of the author. In the second part of this work the seven dramatic pieces are published and the criteria that have been applied when collecting the work and establishing the text are explained, taking into account that there are sometimes multiple versions of these -published or unpublished: Les dugues cartes (unpublished, 1899), Cadenes (unpublished, 1912), Senyoreta Enigma (1919), L’enemic amor (1920), Les petites tragèdies (1921), El clavell roig (unpublished, 1925) and Jueus (1935). In conclusion, then, this work places the complete dramatic works of Miquel de Palol within reach of the modern reader with the aim of raising awareness about the lesser-known facet of the writer and of helping the theatrical legacy of Palol find its rightful place in contemporary Catalan literature

Abstract:
This essay explores the factors that shaped the introduction and dissemination of Dostoevsky’s works in the Catalan cultural sphere, focussing on several different stages of the author’s translations into Catalan. In the late 1800s, Russian literature was largely unknown in Catalonia; interest grew due to the public’s fascination with Russian political movements and the fin de siècle avant-garde, as well as the agitational political climate in Spain. The Catalan intelligentsia typically accessed new aesthetic forms through French publications, including Russian literature: the first translations from Russian to Catalan were thus made through French. However, surprisingly, Dostoevsky’s works entered the Catalan literary world through German translations, with his first translator, Juli Gay, using German texts as source material for his Catalan versions of ‘An Honest Thief’ and ‘The Landlady’ in 1892. This resulted in less stylistic distortion from the original than in other language versions translated from French. In the early 1900s, other works by Dostoevsky were translated into Catalan using French pivot texts; the first direct translations were published in 1929, namely Crime and Punishment by Andreu Nin and The Eternal Husband by Francesc Payarols, two of the most prominent names in Russian-Catalan translation history. During Franco’s dictatorship, literature and cultural expressions in Catalan were banned, reducing new translations. In recent decades, the number and quality of direct translations of Dostoevsky into Catalan have grown, though some major works still await translation.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper a general design and catalog representation is proposed and implemented. The representation is applied to mixed continuous variable and catalog search using genetic algorithms. The representation addresses a number of common catalog search design scenarios. In addition to catalogs of static data (e.g., different sizes of pipes), it is possible to model/search subdesigns that can provide performance data based upon operating conditions. The use of catalog hierarchies allows the search to simultaneously consider catalogs from different vendors and at different levels of detail, therefore achieving the capability of modeling solutions containing general information. The capabilities of the representation are demonstrated through an object-oriented computer implementation that uses a genetic optimization and search algorithm.

Abstract:
Abstract Catalogs have been used for over a century for designing engineering systems. While catalogs are excellent repositories of engineering information, they are difficult to navigate, specifically to spot clusters, gaps, substitutes, and outliers. Inspired by Ashby charts for material selection, we propose here, a visual representation of engineering catalogs using neural networks. In particular, we employ variational autoencoders (VAEs) to project catalog data onto a lower-dimensional latent space. The latent space can then be visualized to explore the underlying structure of the catalog. Specifically, creators can use this visual representation to identify gaps and outliers in their data, while end users can benefit from this representation to compare catalogs from competitors, and to find substitutes. Contours can be super-imposed on the charts to enable selection based on user-defined attributes; these contours are generalization of design indices associated with Ashby charts. Various examples of catalogs across engineering disciplines, ranging from materials and bearings to motors and batteries are illustrated using the proposed method. Using these examples, we (1) study the impact of the latent space dimension on the representational error, (2) illustrate how designers can easily choose alternate configurations based on their design requirements, and (3) gaps in catalog offerings can be clearly identified, providing a stimulus for new product development.

Abstract:
Abstract Catalog design is the process of forming functional systems by assembling selected components from manufacturers’ catalogs. Generally, the engineer performs this design process in two steps: the selection of a basic system configuration, and the subsequent selection of specific components for that configuration. A genetic algorithm approach to catalog design will allow the integration of these two steps. This paper focuses on the four components of a genetic algorithm that must be developed for application to the catalog design problem. These operators include: a genetic representation of the design that includes its component parts and their connectivity, an initialization process for generating an initial set of designs, and a method for the exchange of the designs’ genetic information.

Abstract:
Abstract: Throughout his life Le Corbusier was inspired by Mediterranean traditions. In order to discover Spanish architecture and landscape, he went on numerous of car and train trips throughout its territory. During his visit to Barcelona in 1928 he discovered the craftsmanship of thin-tile Catalan vaults. This was a period in his career in which he began to be interested in traditional building methods and materials. Le Corbusier looked at Catalan vaults as a very flexible formal system versus its simplicity of means. He showed the influence of his travels around the Mediterranean, particularly when he travelled to Barcelona and his relationship with many Spanish architects, in a large number of residential projects built between the 20s and the 50s. He managed to define the project expressivity through the repetition of an unique architectural element, the vault on a grid system, and the use of different materials such as brick, glass and concrete. After several years studying these elements he was able to adapt the Catalan vault system to innovative reinforced concrete structural solutions, showing a great formal and temporary autonomy compared to the rest of his projects while combining tradition and modernity in a unique work.Palabras clave: Mediterráneo; viajes; bóveda catalana; tradición; modernidad. Abstract:
Abstract This paper discusses issues related to a network-based catalog part selection system. Some of the key issues are: the optimal search problem, the burden imposed on the server of a network-based catalog or the time spent in data retrieval, identical parts in different vendor catalogs, and the excessive amount of data in a database of component information. The paper addresses the problem of network “burden,” the problem of identical parts, and the excessive data problem. The authors employ a “Configuration-decomposition” strategy in the approach to the excessive data problem. As an example of applying this approach, the implementation of the authors’ experimental system for part selection is discussed.

Abstract:
The authors analyze the structure of search interfaces in e-catalogs of Russian largest libraries with the collections of over 4 mln entries. Several types of search methods applied in search web-interfaces of library e-catalogs are revealed and characterized, i.e. single-line (simple), standard (basic), advanced and professional. The single-line and advanced searches are the most popular and used in all the mentioned libraries. The authors examine the complementary search functionality: refining, ranking, sorting systems, among them at least one applied in each of the e-catalogs under study; the systems of search dictionaries and additional guidelines, and specifications of use are also discussed. Common features of e-catalog search interfaces of the Russian largest libraries in the aspect of search types and advanced search functionality are identified. The recommendations of developing and efficient application of the search interfaces are offered. The article is prepared within the framework of the Government Order to RNPLS&T for the Project № 720000F.99.1.BZ85AA03000, theme No. 1021062311369-1-1.2.1;5.8.2 (FNEG-2022-0003) for 2022.

Abstract:
This study analyses the names of places and people of diverse origins collected from the documents which outline the territory from the mouth of the river Ebro (running into the sea) in Catalonia, and the adjacent part of the Aragon strip. These place names and anthroponyms are based on Latin onomastics, influenced by the Arabization of the Iberian Peninsula which occurred in the eighth century and the subsequent cultural and linguistic Catalanization. It is possible to observe that the primitive Latin element is evident in names of Mozarabic origin, and that there are many Arab, and some Hebrew elements, which are the result of the presence of these two cultures during the Middle Ages in our territory. The Catalan element – which makes up the majority – comes from the medieval Christian repopulation carried out during the reign of Count Ramon Berenguer IV in the mid-twelfth century. It should be noted that, with Catalan, some elements of the pre-Roman substrate and Germanic superstrate were also introduced into the proper names.

Abstract:
This document provides a high-level summary of all research deliverables involving developed through the support of PRCI. The purpose of this document to aid members, research contractors, and others in identifying completed pipeline research. It should be understood that PRCI's research is continually being updated and this catalog represents a snapshot in time. PRCI's website is considered the master record of PRCI's research information. It should also be noted that not all of the research results are available to the public. There are multiple reasons for this including: PRCI does not own the copyright to the material. This is typically the case where PRCI cofunds research with others and receives a copy of the related deliverables for member use. The research results are preliminary, inconclusive, or incomplete. The research results did not sufficiently pass a peer review for technical quality or rigor. The results were deemed to provide cost efficiencies.
