Abstract:
<div class="page" title="Page 1"><div class="layoutArea"><div class="column"><p>The Player Tracking System (PTS) is already well renowned in the Casino industry. It can track the activity of users and monitor the performance and operation of gaming machines. The recognized downside of such a system is that users usually do not want to be tracked, mostly, because they feel that the functioning of the gaming machine might be tampered with to minimize their winning potential. PTS has to offer a variety of services to stimulate a user to use the membership card. In this paper, we propose an Advanced PTS that simplifies some tedious tasks, automates conversion of bonus points to playing credits, displays jackpot counters, introduces the gaming machine reservation system, provides cashless transfers, delivers interactive personalized awards and promotions with prize winning games, enables ordering of refreshments from the gaming machine, and provides some additional innovative features. Its use reduces the workload of casino employees and enables the casino management team to access configuration of the system and analytical data with the use of a web browser from all desired locations and devices. The biggest installation of the presented APTS manages more than 400 gaming machines, and is well-received by the users.</p></div></div></div>

Abstract:
This work presents a Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) approach for solving the Return-To-Player (RTP) optimization problem. A large number of software companies in the gaming industry seek to solve the RTP optimization problem in order to develop modern virtual casino gambling machines. These slot machines have a number of reels (e.g., three or more) that spin once a button is pushed. Each slot machine is required to have an RTP in a particular range according to the legislation of each country. By using a VNS framework that guides two local search operators, we show how to control the distribution of the symbols in the reels in order to achieve the desired RTP. In this study, optimization refers only to base game, the core of slot machine games, and not in bonus games, since a bonus game is triggered once two, three, or more specific symbols occur in the gaming monitor. Although other researchers have tried to solve the RTP problem in the past, this is the first time that a VNS methodology is proposed for this problem in the literature with good computational results.

Abstract:
AbstractCement bond logs (CBL) and variable density log (VDL) are one of the vital logging techniques used to evaluate cement-casing-formation bonds before the well testing or execution of the production operation in the well. These logs are also crucial during the workover operation to maintain the integrity of the well. The logging techniques provide a clear view of the quality of cement bonds with casing and formation. The microannulus and other deviations in bonding between the cement and the casing or formation are recorded using this technique. Therefore, this technique is used by the regulatory authorities worldwide for the determination of the cement bond with casing and formation. In this paper, the CBL/VDL logging technique was used to determine the bonding between cement and casing and cement and formation at two different CBM wells from 850 to 1600 m depths in the Raniganj block of Durgapur, West Bengal. Two well, namely, A and B, were analyzed to determine the cement-casing-formation bonds in the study area's coal seam zone. The analysis was carried out at normal and pressure pass to investigate the integrity of the well using the CBL/VDL data. The normal and pressure pass in well A indicated the presence of microannulus in the bonding between cement and casing/formation in the coal seam zone. The corresponding analysis of well B showed poor cement and formation bond at the coal seam zone during the normal pass but good bonding after the pressure pass. Thus, it was observed that the CBL/VDL data were capable of determining the cement-casing-formation bonds in both the well of the study area and the well's integrity.

Abstract:
This article, written by JPT Technology Editor Chris Carpenter, contains highlights of paper SPE 198970, “Casing Rotating Cement Heads: A Custom-Fit Solution To Improve Zonal Isolation Results In Colombia—A Field-Proven Case,” by Jose Vela, SPE, Henry Arias, and Edwin Sanchez, Ecopetrol, prepared for the 2020 SPE Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference, held virtually 27–31 July. The paper has not been peer reviewed. In the current challenging drilling environment, effective annular zonal isolation is required for long-term integrity. Among proven cementing practices, casing rotation has been widely applied to liners but not as commonly to full casing strings. The complete paper describes the use of custom-fit rotating cement heads (RCH) to improve cementing results. Cementing Practices in Colombia The following methods of cementing, described in detail in the complete paper, are applied currently in Colombia: - Preflushes and spacers - Slurry design - Casing standoff - Borehole conditioning - Mud circulation and conditioning - Casing movement during the cement job - Monitor job parameters compared with design - Pressure testing and surface-equipment installation Most of these best cementing practices have been followed on a daily basis for all production and intermediate casing. Rotation practice has been widely applied to liners but not for casing strings. This observation led to the introduction of RCH, a technology that arose as the most- appropriate link to connect the top drive or rig prime mover with the casing so that rotation for a full string of casing could be achieved. RCH Use and Implementation Before the implementation of RCH, cement evaluation logs did not show the expected response. Evidence of fluid channeling and fluid contamination was very common, and fair casing to cement bonds was a concern, particularly in washed-out sections and very long cement columns. RCH provides a technical solution for the need to rotate the casing strings while maintaining best practices common to all cement jobs. Rotation has shown to be mandatory for intermediate and production casing to obtain a better log response by enhancing displacement fluid efficiency and mud removal. Well-design and cement objectives vary according to regional sedimentary basins around the country. In the Llanos Basin, the intermediate casing shoe integrity and the isolation of the T1 sand unit are primary objectives; the most-common wellbore problems are the presence of very washed-out sections in front of the E3 and E4 shale formations. The T1 sand unit is located between them and is prone to water or gas influx. Next, the production section is drilled with a lighter mud so that a high negative differential pressure is induced around the casing shoe once the shoe track is drilled. If shoe integrity is not suitable, an influx can be promoted when drilling the productive zone.

Abstract:
Wellbore cement has been used to provide well integrity through zonal isolation in oil and gas wells as well as geothermal wells. Failures of wellbore cement result from either or both: inadequate cleaning of the wellbore and inappropriate cement slurry design for a given field/operational application. Inadequate cementing can result in creation of fractures and microannuli, through which produced fluids can migrate to the surface, leading to environmental and economic issues such as sustained casing pressure, contamination of fresh water aquifers and, in some cases, well blowout. To achieve proper cementing, the drilling fluid should be completely displaced by the cement slurry, providing clean interfaces for effective bond. This is, however, hard to achieve in practice, which results in contaminated cement mixture and poor bonds at interfaces. This paper reports findings from the experimental investigation of the impact of drilling fluid contamination on the shear bond strength at the cement-formation and the cement-casing interfaces by testing different levels of contamination as well as contaminations of different nature (physical vs. chemical). Shear bond test and material characterization techniques were used to quantify the effect of drilling fluid contamination on the shear bond strength. The results show that drilling fluid contamination is detrimental to both cement-formation and cement-casing shear bond strength.

Abstract:
A bullet which has been lodged in the body encapsulated by dense fibrous tissue for a long time without causing ill effects is a souvenir bullet. The bullet cartridge is divided into 3 parts: bullet, cartridge case holding bullet with gun powder and detonator at the base. Medicolegal consultation was done with Forensic Medicine Department where cartridge case acted as projectile and accidentally got embedded into the chest of the victim. In an attempt of making an ornament from the casing of bullet which was separated from bullet mechanically and gunpowder was partially removed from the bullet case. When he heated the bullet case to melt and mould, the remaining gun powder ignited with release of large amount of gas which resulted in forceful propulsion and acted as the projectile. An oval penetrating keyhole appearance injury measuring 2 cm x 1.5 cm was present on left side of the chest of the victim. The projectile was found just above the 6th rib and was confined within inter-costal muscle. Although late complications may arise from the metallic toxicity from the bullet case showing manifestations like abdominal pain, anorexia, chronic renal failure, abdominal pain, osteomyelitis, and fistula formation in bones, the projectile was left within the body as a souvenir to be intervened in case complications arise during follow-ups, as manipulating it could cause unanticipated therapeutic complications.

Abstract:
Architectures constituted of stacked aromatics play a crucial role in the development of function in biomacromolecules. Recreating this feature on synthetic systems would not only allow understanding and reproducing biological functions but also developing new functions. For instance, the performance of organic field-effect transistors, light-emitting diodes, and solar cells critically depends on the charge transport efficiency of stacks of organic semiconductors. Among different packing configurations, lamellar π-stacking has been identified as an optimal configuration for electronic transport, because of the efficient intermolecular electronic coupling. Nitrogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and nanographenes have attracted considerable attention in recent years. Besides the effect of nitrogen doping on the electronic structure, sp2 nitrogens can be engaged in hydrogen bonding interactions as acceptors. We have developed the synthesis of novel architectures constituted of stacked nitrogenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons held together by hydrogen bonds, which include new families of pseudorotaxanes, rotaxanes, foldamers and supramolecular polymers. The synthesis and self-assembling properties of these systems will be discussed together with their charge transporting properties. References [1] A. Riaño, M. Carini, M. Melle-Franco and A. Abstract:
At the dawn of World War I (WWI), the British stock market was the preserve of a wealthy elite, and most people in finance and politics agreed that it should stay this way. By the end of the century, Britain had more individual shareholders than trade union members. This book explores the financial, political, and cultural forces that brought about this dramatic change in British society. By capturing the voices and experiences of everyday investors, this study brings to life the history of Britain’s vibrant stock market culture: from the mass investment in war bonds during WWI, through the expansion of the financial press in the post-war decades, to the ‘popular capitalism’ of Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative Party during the 1980s. Throughout the century, the stock market came to play an ever larger role in people’s lives through pension funds and life insurances. But as financial securities lost their age-old stigma of being either immoral or suitable only for the upper classes, the markets also became a popular pastime for millions of Britons who were seeking higher than average returns and a similar thrill of risk and reward to that of gambling on horses or the football pools. Playing the Market forcefully reminds us that gambling is not—as many financial professionals would have us believe—a parasitical element to the otherwise rational and prudent sphere of modern finance. Instead, it is one of its constituent features and explains why until this day, the stock market is either criticized or celebrated as a casino.

Abstract Phillip Johnson, a former chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, once remarked “If I buy stocks or bonds I am called an investor. If, on the other hand, I buy futures contracts, I am—at best—called a speculator or—worse—a gambler.” He was suggesting that the colorful terminology of the futures markets might mislead the public. Nevertheless, the difference between investing, speculating and gambling, technically, blurs to variations in the objectives (e.g., the fear and greed tradeoff attitude and the time horizon). Furthermore, financial derivatives contracts such as futures, forwards, options, etc. (as well as the traditional investment instruments) qualify as bets, stakes and gambles from a formal quantitative viewpoint. From this perspective, the cynics who assert that the financial derivatives markets are the greatest casinos of the world may have a point. The currency daily dealing alone is referred to as a trillion dollar market.

Abstract:
Metal matrix composites (MMCs) having particulate or laminate structure are extensively used in a wide range of applications including cutting tools, automotive vehicles, aircraft, and consumer electronics. In a composite material, two or more dissimilar materials are combined to form another material having superior properties. The matrix is a continuous phase in a composite material and is usually more ductile and less hard phase. In the matrix phase, aluminum, magnesium, titanium and copper are some of the metals widely used matrix materials. Compared with unreinforced metals, MMCs offer much better mechanical and thermal properties as well as the opportunity to tailor these properties for a particular application. In order to fabricate MMCs, various processing techniques have been evolved which can be categorized as liquid state method: Stir Casting, Infiltration, Gas Pressure Infiltration, Squeeze Casting Infiltration, Pressure Die Infiltration, solid state method: Diffusion bonding, Sintering and vapor state method: Electrolytic co-deposition, Spray co-deposition and Vapor co-deposition. The microstructure of MMCs such as orientation, distribution and aspect ratio of reinforced phase can effectively influence the properties of composite materials. The effective properties of MMCs can be predicted using the analytical or numerical methods. Analytical methods such as: Turner Model, Kerner Model, Schapery bonds, Hashin’s bond and Rule-of-Mixtures are used widely for effective properties computation. However, analytical methods cannot take into account the material microstructure, and therefore, the finite element method has been used extensively to model the real microstructure of composites and to predict the deformation response and effective properties of composites.

Abstract:
Magnesium (Mg) is a promising material for producing temporary orthopedic implants, since it is a biodegradable and biocompatible metal which density is very similar to that of the bones. Another benefit is the small strength mismatch when compared to other biocompatible metals, what alleviates stress-shielding effects between bone and the implant. To take advantage of the best materials properties, it is possible to combine magnesium with bioactive ceramics and tailor composites for medical applications with improved biocompatibility, controllable degradation rates and the necessary mechanical properties. To properly insert bioactive reinforcement into the metallic matrix, the fabrication of these composites usually involves at least one high temperature step, as casting or sintering. Yet, recent papers report the development of Mg-based composites at room temperature using severe plastic deformation. This chapter goes through the available data over the development of Mg-composites reinforced with bioactive ceramics, presenting the latest findings on the topic. This overview aims to identify the major influence of the processing route on matrix refinement and reinforcement dispersion, which are critical parameters to determine mechanical and corrosion properties of biodegradable Mg-based composites.

Abstract:
The high cost and negative environmental impact of traditionally made aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMC) need their replacement with eco-friendly materials with improved mechanical characteristics. The repurposing of agricultural waste in innovative materials is critical to achieving a sustainable society. This study utilized AA6061/chitosan at sieve size of 90¸tm created via modified stir casting at weight proportions of 3, 6, 9, and 12 wt. %. The produced composites reached a maximum hardness of 60.2 HRB at 9wt. % chitosan, comparable to a 2.36 % improvement in AA6061 hardness, 57.4 HRB. Similarly, tensile strength increased with increasing chitosan particles, from 83.07MPa for the unreinforced alloy to a maximum of 114.92MPa for 12 wt. % AA6061 reinforcement with chitosan. The samples’ XRD revealed clear evidence of Hydroxyapatite, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, a component of teeth and bones that provides strength. The corrosion characteristics findings reveal that AA6061+9 wt. % chitosan has the lowest corrosion rate of all the samples. In addition, the microstructure of AA6061 with chitosan strains of reinforcement was observed in the AA6061/3wt. % SEM, eventually filling grain boundaries of the metal with increasing reinforcements to provide evenly distributed fibrous links connecting AA6061 grain structure at 6wt. % and 9wt. % reinforcement in the micrograph

Abstract:
It is well known that the reaction of liquid aluminum with the moisture in the environment results in two products: aluminum oxide and hydrogen gas that dissolves in aluminum. Both of these products are considered to be detrimental to the properties of aluminum alloys. Therefore, test equipment has been developed to check the levels of these defects in the melt. Many of these involve expensive and consumable tools. In addition, an experienced personnel may be required to interpret the results. Nonetheless, aluminum oxide is harmless as long as it remains on the surface. The problem begins when this oxide is entrained into the liquid aluminum such as turbulence during transfer or mold filling in a non-optimized design. This can only happen by folding of the oxide. During this action, rough surface of the oxides comes in contact to form no bonds. These defects are known as bifilms that have certain characteristics. First, they act as cracks in the cast parts since they are oxides. It is important to note that aluminum oxide has thin amorphous oxide (known as young oxides) and thick crystalline oxide (γ-Al2O3) that may be formed in a casting operation. Second, almost zero force is required to open these bifilms due to the unbonded folded oxide skins. Thus, these defects can easily form porosity by unravelling during solidification shrinkage. On the other hand, the formation of porosity by hydrogen is practically impossible. Theoretically, hydrogen has high solubility in the liquid but it has significantly low solubility in solid aluminum. Thus, it is suspected that hydrogen is rejected from the solidification front to form hydrogen gas and porosity. However, the hydrogen atom has the smallest atomic radii and high diffusibility. Therefore, segregation of hydrogen in front of the growing solid is difficult. In addition, the energy required for hydrogen atoms to segregate and form hydrogen gas molecule is around 30,000 atm. Under these conditions, porosity formation by hydrogen is not likely to be achieved. Hydrogen probably stays in a supersaturated state or diffuses homogeneously through the cast part. The effect of hydrogen can only be seen when it can diffuse into the unbonded gap between the bifilms to open them up to aid the unravelling of bifilms to form porosity. This phenomenon can be easily detected by a very simple test called reduced pressure test. When a sample is solidified under vacuum, the bifilms start to open up. Since all porosity is formed by bifilms, the cross section of the sample solidified under vacuum can be analyzed by means of image analysis software. The sum of maximum length of pores can be measured as an indication of melt quality. Since bifilms are the most detrimental defects, this value is called “bifilm index” given in millimetres, which makes this test the only test that can quantify aluminum melt quality in such detail including both the effects of bifilms and hydrogen together. Several Al-Si alloys were used at various conditions: degassing with lance, ceramic diffusers, and graphite rotary has been compared. Gravity sand casting, die casting, and low-pressure die casting methods were evaluated. The effect of grain refiners and modifiers was studied. And the evolution of the bifilm index has been presented.

Abstract:
This chapter challenges the strategy of seeking material improvements for animals through recognition of animals as ‘workers’ or ‘labourers’, especially as this strategy may relate to farmed animals. It argues that this strategy risks overlooking the realities of ‘agricultural exceptionalism’, whereby agricultural producers are consistently insulated from regulations seeking to advance a range of social priorities from trade to labour to animal well-being to environmental protection. In particular, this chapter notes that seeking improvements for farmed animals by casting them as ‘workers’ may have the effect of 1) whitewashing the violence and exploitation of contemporary animal-agricultural practices (taking dairy farming as a key example); and 2) whitewashing the treatment and status of human agricultural workers, who are in fact often socially and legally isolated, excluded, and debased. Having set out this critique, the chapter concludes with reflections on the application of this strategy to non-farmed animals, including a concern with strategies for animal inclusion and justice that are unable to illuminate or elevate the concerns of farmed animals. Instead, this chapter urges the adoption of theories and strategies grounded in the identification and advancement of priorities that most resonate with animals’ own priorities and the harms: for example, those related to kinship and parenthood (bonds which we know to be both highly valued and highly disrupted for agricultural and other domesticated animals), rather than to work they may perform for humans under conditions of inequality and coercion.

Abstract:
Abstract Short liner cementing is very common in Oman southern oil fields. Among the challenges one can find no mechanical separation between the fluids, cement and pre-flush volumes are relatively small leading or increasing the chances of contamination and requiring remedial cementing jobs with uncertain success. As a result, poor cement bond log across the liner section were observed in more than 80% of all the cementing jobs. An engineering approach was proposed for this scenario. First increase rheologies of the fluids using physics instead of chemistry to diminish the fluid contamination inside of the casing and create a better sweeping effect outside of the casing. Selecting the adequate solid size ratios of the weighting agent to reduce the possible loss circulation problems generated by higher friction pressure. Increasing the generation and ultimate compressive strength of the cement system and finally providing expansion properties to the set cement. This paper presents the field CBL/USIT logs results and a case study showing the application and effectiveness of the technique proposed comparing with the previous approach in different wells.

Abstract:
Abstract A major Exploration and Production (E & P) company was posed with a challenge of sustained casing pressure in over 85% of the wells drilled in one of the fields in the Offshore Niger Delta. Sustained casing pressure occurs when the annular seal is damaged and a path is created for the formation pressure to reach the surface, and the pressure in the annulus rebuilds after being bled down. When cementing in such an environment, operators have the following objectives: Placing a cement sheath with increased capability to survive future downhole stress events.Achieving effective mud removal.Gaining the benefits of a react and respond sheath design.Providing a long productive life for the wellbore. To develop a cement system that would achieve and maintain isolation throughout the life of the well, an advanced cement technology was required. This advanced cement technology involved Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model the effects of stresses from well operations on the cement sheath. This analysis takes into consideration well configuration, formation properties, casing properties, cement properties and operational loads and predicts the remaining capacities of the cement sheath. The remaining capacity is used to measure how much a cement sheath is stressed. After simulating the effect of downhole stresses on a cement sheath, a mechanically enhanced cement slurry was designed to meet the recommendations of the model and provide a cement sheath with improved remaining capacity. This paper presents the successful mechanically enhanced slurry design, job design, planning and execution on the production section of the well after a Finite Element Analysis was conducted. Post job conditions such as good cement bonds across cemented areas, well production without inter-zonal communication and no annular pressure build up in over 8 years have proven the success of the design and the procedure implemented in these challenging well bore environments. The success of this well has been applied to two additional wells.

Abstract:
Abstract The Kohat Plateau in Pakistan features major Gas and Condensate producing fields with majority of the blocks owned and operated by two of the country's biggest E&P Operators. Operators are known to frequently encounter severe drilling challenges, and over time, have devised certain technology solutions that have helped curtail the major drilling challenges to a good extent, helping improve the time and cost expended in reaching the target depths. However, the problems arising after the Drilling cycle – foremost being Sustained Casing Pressure (SCP) – require expensive remedial treatments and loss of production; this paper presents a solution to this particular challenge of SCP including in-depth cause analysis, treatment design and implementation. In the analysis stage, the drilling data of wells experiencing SCP in one of the Casing annuli was reviewed to pinpoint possible areas of compromised well integrity. It was observed that sections having good Cement bonds and sufficient Top of Cement in the annulus also became compromised over time, indicating operations conducted after the drilling phase could be responsible for the annular fluid migration, and hence SCP. It must be noted that extensive drill-stem tests to assess the reservoir economics as well as production pressures generate significant dynamic stress on the well structure. Through the use of custom stress-analysis software for annular Cement, it was concluded that it is this stress that causes the primary isolation of the constructed well, the annular Cement, to fail allowing annular migration of formation fluids. A new class of stress-resistant, auto-repair Cements was seen to resist any mechanical failure under stress enabling Operators to drill wells with lasting structural integrity. Mechanical properties including Young's Modulus, Poisson Ratio and Annular Expansion co-efficient were analyzed to design a Cement system capable of withstanding the applied stress. The first in-country application was conducted as the Intermediate-section Cementing in a new well. The system exhibited good isolation with average 10mV amplitude (free pipe amplitude 51 mV) in Cased Hole bond logs and no annular pressure is observed till date in the section more than 02 years after the primary cementing operation. This design approach was subsequently extended to other fields, with successful applications that reduced, and in certain cases, eliminated the need for remedial work. By presenting a detailed field application of flexible and self-healing Cement, the paper puts forth a general, stepwise approach for the selection of a Cement design that promises lasting annular isolation and minimizes the risk of communication behind the casing.

Abstract:
Abstract The traditional solution for capping abandoned oil and gas wells is to fill portions of the open well with cement. However, cement is not ideal for plugging or capping because it often results in an ineffective seal. Cement proves ineffective due to shrinkage, inability to bond to steel casing, degradation over time, and a large carbon footprint in production. To be a solution for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from abandoned wellbores, plugging must be effective indefinitely. Moreover, the effectiveness must be documented over time. Thus, the conventional approach of plugging with cement and walking away offers no documented proof of GHG emission mitigation. In this work we suggest the use of a proprietary polymer-based sealant for plugging and abandonment. The sealant, referred to TSN-20, has superior flowability, excellent bond strength to steel and rock, is very ductile, and is thermally stable. TSN-20 sealant can penetrate, flow into and seal extremely thin microcracks (&lt; 30 microns) where cement and most other sealants cannot flow. These small microcracks are problematic leakage pathways for methane and other GHGs. Further, unlike cement, TSN-20 bonds to steel and rock, is very ductile, thermally stable, and resist harsh downhole conditions, including acids and hydrocarbons. Tests showed TSN-20 can dramatically reduce the flow rate after one sealant injection. TSN-20 sealant can be used to mitigate methane gas emissions in abandoned oil and gas wells.
