Full textMany current applications in the microelectronics sector rely on the use of piezoelectric and ferroelectric materials in the form of thin films. For instance, MEMS devices, including sensors, actuators, and energy harvesters, take advantage of the piezoelectric properties of materials. Moreover, the discovery of the potential of certain materials for microelectronic devices has spurred significant research, as exemplified by the use of HfO2 for its ferroelectric properties in non-volatile memories like FeRAM and FeFET. In this context, various deposition techniques for piezoelectric and ferroelectric thin films are currently under optimization. Specific characterization methods for these materials are essential to evaluate the quality of their fabrication and to enhance the understanding of the underlying physical phenomena, which is critical for their integration into advanced microelectronic devices. This thesis aims to develop characterization techniques for the piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of devices fabricated as thin films at the nanoscale. Piezoelectric force microscopy enables such analyses but is susceptible to numerous artifacts, such as electrostatic effects, which can significantly impact the results. The objective of this thesis is to develop, implement, and combine new advanced techniques based on PFM to minimize measurement artifacts by separating their contributions from those of piezoelectric and ferroelectric effects, and to characterize a wider range of material properties. For instance, the coupled PFM mode in switching spectroscopy with dual-frequency resonance tracking, developed for the first time in this thesis, maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio while reducing and measuring the influence of various artifacts. Furthermore, this mode allows the measurement of material property variations under the influence of an electric field, thus reflecting more realistic operating conditions. This mode has been extended for mapping measurements, allowing the determination of variations in the measured properties across the material surface at the nanoscale. The development of a suite of software programs played a key role in the creation of these new modes, from equipment control to advanced data analysis

Full textForest ecosystems cover around 10 percent of the earth's surface. They provide numerous ecological functions and ecosystem services, thanks to their high biodiversity and their role in climate regulation and biogeochemical cycles. However, climate change, linked to global warming, jeopardizes the conservation of these ecosystems by plunging the plant species present into conditions for which they are not adapted. Vegetation in forest ecosystems can be monitored using quantitative remote sensing, by estimating functional traits defined in ecology as indicators of growth, reproduction or survival capacities. More specifically, for plant species, certain functional traits, known as foliar traits, are linked to the biochemical composition of foliage and affect the optical properties of vegetation through physical processes. By solving an inverse problem, leaf traits can be retrieved from airborne and space-based remote sensing methods using hyperspectral data in the 0.4-2.5 µm optical range. Hyperspectral sensors, already launched or planned for the next decade, will provide massive data flows, making it possible to monitor forest ecosystems, but requiring automatic processing methods. In this context, this thesis targets the development of a generalizable method capable of processing all images of a temperate forest from a spatial sensor for the estimation of four leaf traits: leaf concentrations of chlorophylls (Cab), carotenoids (Cxc), water (EWT) and dry matter (LMA). To meet this objective, this thesis proposes to test estimation methods at the leaf scale and then at the canopy scale, based on data collected on five forest sites in California, covering several ecosystems and different seasons. At the leaf scale, several trait estimation methods are compared, including physical and statistical approaches, and based on leaf samples collected from the five sites. The main results show that the statistical method based on Gaussian processes regression yields the most accurate estimates whatever the trait. At canopy level, leaf traits are estimated using both a statistical and a hybrid approach, based on AVIRIS acquisitions over the five sites. The statistical approach involves training regression models on AVIRIS hyperspectral data. The hybrid approach consists of training a convolution neural network (CNN) on a synthetic database generated from the DART model. This step shows that statistical approaches perform better than the hybrid approach. Nevertheless, all the methods tested prove ill-suited to extract the effects of leaf traits from canopy-scale reflectance, and estimation errors remain too large to analyze seasonal and intra-specific variation in leaf traits. In order to improve estimation performance, a more in-depth study of the effects of canopy and understory geometry would be required. In addition, it would be necessary to test the predictability of forest health based on leaf trait mapping in order to achieve a comprehensive monitoring of these ecosystems

Full textAeromagnetic and magnetic mapping were realized in the Rhine graben area. The stake is double, on one hand implementation and improvement of the magnetic vector measurement quality and on the other hand the structural study of this area. The originality of this works is using fluxgate vector magnetometer 3-axis for magnetic mapping in various acquisition configurations, airborne in particular. To improve the quality of measurement, a protocol of treatment remains necessary. The main problems in using fluxgate magnetometers arise from defect related to manufacturing but these can be overcome using a simple mathematical method of calibration. This method also has the advantage of compensating magnetometer defects and interference magnetization generated by the measuring equipment. We discussed the multi-scale magnetic mapping: data carried out on the ground, at an altitude of 50 m and 150 m using successively unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s) and piloted aircrafts. The purpose of the interpretation is to define the location and magnetization of structural elements for each recognized magnetic anomaly depending to depth. The contribution of magnetic mapping in understanding of structural study of the Rhine graben area was then validated by compilation of transformed magnetic anomaly maps, seismic reflection, geology of the area and synthetic modeling
