Abstract:
Quantum computation based on a gate model is described. This model initially creates a superposition | ψ 0 〉 consisting of N = 2 n states, and these states are labeled by an n qubit index value j . Two working qubits | 0 〉 w k 0 and | 0 〉 w k 1 are added for a measurement. Moreover, one marking qubit | 0 〉 m k is added to discriminate between states in a superposition. Thus, | ψ 1 〉 = 1 / N ∑ j = 0 N − 1 | j 〉 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 0 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 1 ⊗ | 0 〉 m k . The Hadamard transformation is applied to | 0 〉 w k 0 and | 0 〉 w k 1 . | ψ 2 〉 = 1 / N 1 / 2 2 ∑ j = 0 N − 1 | j 〉 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 0 + | 1 〉 w k 0 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 1 + | 1 〉 w k 1 ⊗ | 0 〉 m k . After a computation, a set of states is divided into two subsets; one is a subset bad (B) and the other is a subset good (G). | ψ 3 〉 = 1 / N 1 / 2 2 ∑ j ∈ B | j 〉 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 0 + | 1 〉 w k 0 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 1 + | 1 〉 w k 1 ⊗ | 0 〉 m k + ∑ j ∈ G | j 〉 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 0 + | 1 〉 w k 0 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 1 + | 1 〉 w k 1 ⊗ | 1 〉 m k . After a marking, a superposition is measured by POVM. The measurement is described by a collection of four measurement operators. The measurement transforms | ψ 3 〉 into | ψ 4 〉 = 1 / N ∑ j ∈ B | j 〉 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 0 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 1 ⊗ p 0 sin θ | 0 〉 m k + ∑ j ∈ G | j 〉 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 0 ⊗ | 0 〉 w k 1 ⊗ p 1 cos θ | 1 〉 m k / D ; here, D = card B p 0 ∗ p 0 sin 2 θ + card G p 1 ∗ p 1 cos 2 θ , and p 0 ∗ p 0 sin 2 θ + p 1 ∗ p 1 cos 2 θ = 2 which is derived from the completeness equation. The state | 0 〉 m k and the state | 1 〉 m k before the measurement are transformed into p 0 sin θ | 0 〉 m k and p 1 cos θ | 1 〉 m k , respectively. This paper describes these measurement operators.

Abstract:
Major contributions to machining and grinding research in the US came in the twentieth century. The seminal work by Frederick Winslow Taylor on the Art of Cutting Metals published in 1907 was the beginning of a series of serious and systematic studies on the various aspects of metal cutting and grinding in this century. This monumental work, which became an American classic, continues to inspire many a researcher in this field even today. It was followed by the works of other pioneers, including Orlan W Boston, Hans Ernst, M E Martellotti, Max Kronenberg, M Eugene Merchant, Milton C Shaw, Michael Field, John Kahles, K J Roubik, K Armitage, Ken Trigger, B T Chao, Alfred Schmidt, William W Gilbert, Fran Boulger, Lester Colwell, Carl Oxford, Erich Thomsen, Robert Hahn, and many others. Many of the associates of the pioneers including Nathan Cook, Iain Finnie, B F von Turkovich, Shiro Kobayaski, Inyong Ham, E Loewen, and others including W B Rice, S M Wu, and J Tlusty have made significant contributions to these fields in their own right. There is no doubt that this century will be heralded by the historians as the golden age of metal cutting and grinding research, particularly the period between 1940 and 1960. It was, however, M Eugene Merchant’s paper on the Basic Mechanics of the Metal Cutting Process in 1945 that took a giant step from the art of metal cutting to the science of metal cutting. This work laid the foundation for much of the work that is practiced today. It can be stated unequivocally that because of the significant contributions by the pioneers and their associates, metal cutting and grinding research today is rich in its heritage and contents, and has contributed towards the improvement of manufacturing productivity. It has thereby facilitated the improvement of living standards around the world. In this review, the following ten topics are addressed briefly: Physics of Machining; Mechanics of Machining; Shear and Friction in Machining; Thermal Aspects of Machining and Grinding; Tool Materials, Tool Wear, and Machinability; Multiple Cutting Points; Grinding; Vibrations in Machining; Surface Integrity; and Economics of Machining.

Abstract:

Celem pracy była ocena zawartości wybranych pierwiastków (Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Mn i Zn) w różnych rodzajach czekolad. Analizie poddano 20 czekolad, w tym: białe (B), mleczne (M) i gorzkie (G) o różnej zawartości masy kakaowej. Pogrupowano je według zawartości suchej masy kakaowej następująco [%]: G6 – 60, G7 – 70, G8 – do 85, G9 – 90. Wykazano także znaczne ilości cynku (356,70 ÷ 511,35 µg/g s.m.) i żelaza (127,47 ÷ 155,74 µg/g s.m.), a mniejsze – miedzi (16,49 ÷ 25,37 µg/g s.m.) i manganu (15,85 ÷ 21,46 µg/g s.m.).

Abstract:
Heart disease is the leading cause of death and is often accompanied by cardiac fibrillation. Defibrillation using the virtual electrode effects is a promising alternative compared to using the high-voltage electric shock in the clinic. Our earlier works [S. L. Murphy, K. D. Kochanek, J. Electrophysiol. 3, 45–51 (1999).] prove that, compared with other external electric fields, a low voltage circularly polarized electric field is more efficient in turning non-excitable defects in cardiac tissue into virtual electrodes. It, therefore, needs lower voltage to stimulate the excitation waves and causes less harm to reset the spiral turbulence of cardiac excitation for defibrillation. In this paper, we investigate the virtual electrode effect of multiple defects by the circularly polarized electric field for the removal of spiral turbulence. Considering different shapes, sizes, and distributions of multiple defects, we reveal the phase locking of stimulated excitations around multiple virtual electrodes. Furthermore, the circularly polarized electric field parameters are optimized to remove the spiral turbulence.

Abstract:
The mistletoe Psittacanthus macrantherus Eichl. (Loranthaceae) is an important parasite of pines (Pinus spp., Pinaceae) in Mexico (1). It has been reported to parasitize Pinus engelmannii Carr., P. herrerai Mart., P. lawsonii Roezl ex Gord. & Glend., P. lumholtzii Robins & Fern., P. oocarpa Schiede, and P. pseudostrobus Lindl. (1). During July 2005, we found this mistletoe parasitizing P. devoniana Lindl. and Quercus castanea Nee near Route 40 in Sinaloa, Mexico approximately 12 km west of El Palmito (23°30′N, 105°07′W, elevation 1,900 m). The mistletoe was common in P. devoniana, and some trees were severely infected (>10 plants per tree). However, no mortality associated with mistletoe infection in P. devoniana was observed. Only one infected tree of Q. castanea was observed in this area and it was not severely infected. We also observed this mistletoe on P. douglasiana Mart. along Route 40 west and east of El Palmito, but no specimens were collected because plants were very high in the crowns of the infected trees. To our knowledge, this is the first report of this mistletoe parasitizing P. devoniana, P. douglasiana, and Q. castanea (1). Specimens of Psittacanthus macrantherus from P. devoniana and Q. castenea have been deposited at the Deaver Herbarium (ASC), Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff (Accession Nos. 79534 and 79535). Abstract:
Ever since Yeats started writing plays in the 1890s, the Irish character seems to be struggling between two opposite pitfalls of memory: on the one hand an impossibility for him to forget, and the other hand an impossibility to retain memories. This memory crisis, which entails an identity crisis, leads to an increasing staging of mental disorders by the playwrights to represent, perhaps involuntarily, a destabilised contemporary society. W. B. Yeats (1865-1939) and J. M. Synge (1871-1909) use mental disorder not only as a theme, but also as a literary ploy as memories in their plays are relived and reconstructed in misleading and contradictory tales. This work focuses on the relationship between memory, mental disorder and Modernism in a long period (1892-1939) in order to underline the evolutions of the representation of dysfunctional memory in the texts. It successively examines the plays in the light of the three major memory disorders identified by psychiatrists at the time: amnesia, hypermnesia and paramnesia. This work relies on a parallel reading of the intuitive perception of memory by literature and the contemporary psychiatric theories, the underlying hypothesis being that some clinical notions of memory dysfunctions have been integrated to the theatrical corpus, which could be a feature of an Irish (early) Modernism

Abstract:
Between territories: Incremental changes to the domestic spatial interface between private and public domains. Agnieszka Wir-Konas¹, Kyung Wook Seo¹ ¹Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. Newcastle City Campus, 2 Ellison Pl, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8ST. E-mail: agnieszka.wir-konas@northumbria.ac.uk, kyung.seo@northumbria.ac.uk Keywords (3-5): building-street interface, incremental change, micro-morphology, private-public boundary, territory Conference topics and scale: Urban form and social use of space In this paper we investigate incremental changes to the relationship between private and public territory on the micro-morphological scale of the residential building-street interface. The building-street interface lies on the edge between two distinctively different spatial domains, the house and the street, and provides a buffer which may be adjusted to aid the transition from private to public territory. The structure of the space impacts both domains: it provides a fit transition from the private dwelling to the public territory, creates a space for probabilistic encounters between inhabitants and strangers, and maintains the liveability of the public street. The aim of this paper is threefold: Firstly, we recognise morphological differences in the structure of the interfaces and the way the transition from private to public territory was envisioned and designed in different societal periods. Secondly, we study incremental changes to the interface, representing individual adjustments to the private-public boundary, in order to recognize common types of adaptations to the existing structure of the interface. The history of changes to each individual building and building-street interface was traced by analysing planning applications and enforcements publicly provided by the city council. Lastly, we compare the capacity of each building-street interface to accommodate incremental change to the public-private transition. We argue that studying the incremental change of the interface and the capacity of each interface to accommodate micro-scale transformations aids in the understanding of the complex social relationship between an individual and a collective in the urban environment. Abstract:
BackgroundCare recipients in care and welfare are increasingly presenting themselves with complex needs (Huber et al., 2016). An answer to this is the integrated organization of care and welfare in a way that personalized care is the measure (Topol, 2016). The reality, however, is that care and welfare are still mainly offered in a standardized, specialized and fragmented way. This imbalance between the need for care and the supply of care not only leads to under-treatment and over-treatment and thus to less (experienced) quality, but also entails the risk of mis-treatment, which means that patient safety is at stake (Berwick, 2005). It also leads to a reduction in the functioning of citizens and unnecessary healthcare cost (Olsson et al, 2009).Integrated CareIntegrated care is the by fellow human beings experienced smooth process of effective help, care and service provided by various disciplines in the zero line, the first line, the second line and the third line in healthcare and welfare, as close as possible (Ettema et al, 2018; Goodwin et al, 2015). Integrated care starts with an extensive assessment with the care recipient. Then the required care and services in the zero line, the first line, the second line and / or the third line are coordinated between different care providers. The care is then delivered to the person (fellow human) at home or as close as possible (Bruce and Parry, 2015; Evers and Paulus, 2015; Lewis, 2015; Spicer, 2015; Cringles, 2002).AimSupport societal participation, quality of live and reduce care demand and costs in people with complex care demands, through integration of healthcare and welfare servicesMethods (overview)1. Abstract:
Making the most of daylight in town planning is one of the important ingredients in the attempts for the sustainable city. Exactly 150 years ago Ildefons Cerdà presented his great work “Teoría General de la Urbanización” including methods for taking care of sunlight. However, with modern software, the possibilities to do comprehensive preparations are much better. This paper presents an urban typology considering daylight with basic geometric forms, shapes and patterns. Later this will be elaborated more in detail. The research includes three steps; choosing typical alternatives for settlements and designing some new principle urban solutions, calculations and evaluations of the alternatives considering especially energy saving. The quality and the quantity of daylight are dependent of the geometry of the urban spaces. That means the volumes for the buildings as well as the empty spaces in between. The accessibility for diffuse daylight from the sky and for direct rays from the sun is measurable by computer calculations where the sun angles and the skylight from the hemisphere are simulated. Relevant parameters are height, width and length. In a settlement with a high urban density it is more difficult to distribute daylight than in a settlement with low density. However the economy for exploitations is also worse with lower density. Therefore the comparisons between different settlements are with the same density. The orientation of the settlements according to the compass is of crucial importance looking to the direct sunlight and the shadows. How the local environment with parks, water, mountains and specific landmarks in the surroundings also affects the daylight distribution is included.References (100 words) Dubois, M.-C., Gentile, N., Amorim, C., Osterhaus, W., Stoffer, S.,Jakobiak, R., Geisler-Moroder, D., Matusiak, B., Onarheim, F. Abstract:
The increased automation of the car manufacturing process, in which much of the assembly has been delegated from man to machine, has done much to relieve workers of the burden of heavy lifting. However, despite ergonomic improvements in the workplace, many jobs still require workers to perform repetitive tasks [1]. In the automotive industry, Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSD) are one of the most common occupational problems due to repetitive working tasks. Workers that perform manual work are often prone to awkward postures, repetitive movements, forceful exertions, and overextensions, which are some of the main factors for the arising of WMSD [2]. Besides, these work-related factors, also the personal factors contribute to the occurrence of this kind of injury, making WMSD a complex condition that involves contributions from many factors [3,4]. The current study aims to compare different observational methods commonly used to assess the WMSD risk in repetitive tasks. To accomplish this goal a case of study in assembly workstation of an automotive company in Portugal was applied. It was selected methods that are widely used by ergonomists and are validated for implementation in the industry [5,6]. Therefore, the following methods were applied to an assembly workstation: (i) Rapid Upper-Limb Assessment (RULA), (ii) Occupational Repetitive Actions (OCRA), (ii) Key Indicator Method – Manual Handling Operations (KIM-MHO), and (iv) Revised Strain Index (RSI) This multi-method approach was very important, as it allowed for a more comprehensive assessment, which will support the proposals for improvement The results show that workstation present a considerable WMSD risk in 3 of 4 methods applied. These results suggest that a change to the workstation is necessary. A possible solution would be to implement a Human-robot collaboration solution, in order to reduce the physical demands associated with repetitive movements [7] to which workers are subjected. Abstract:
This paper introduces our experience of using miniaturized Charpy type SE(B) specimen in obtaining fracture toughness Jc of a material in the ductile to brittle transition temperature (DBTT) region. 0.55% carbon steel JIS S55C, whose tensile to yield stress ratio σTS/σYS was equal to 1.8 was chosen as a material to simulate a degraded (embrittled) material in the DBTT region. Focus was placed on whether the modified Ritchie–Knott–Rice (RKR) failure criterion which predicts the onset of cleavage fracture when the crack opening stress measured at 4 times the crack-tip opening displacement σ22d exceeds this σ22c can be applied to miniaturized specimen that does not meet the ASTM E1921 requirement of M = (W-a)σYS/Jc ≥ 30. In concrete, the points 1) whether it could predict whether cleavage fracture will occur or not and 2) whether the σ22c in the case cleavage occurs is identical with that of full sized specimens, were focused. Charpy type SE(B) specimens of Width W × thickness B of 2 × 2 mm, 3 × 3 mm and 10 × 10 mm, whose M were predicted to be smaller than 30, were chosen as miniaturized specimens and 25 × 25 mm were chosen as full sized specimen. Results showed that the modified RKR criterion could appropriately predict cleavage fracture naturally for 25 × 25 mm specimens and 10 × 10 mm specimens, though M < 30 for this type specimen. The modified RKR criterion could also predict that cleavage fracture will not occur for 2 × 2 mm specimens. σ22c obtained from 25 × 25 and 10 × 10 mm specimens showed small difference, indicating that Jc obtained from 10 × 10 mm specimens can be used to transfer Jc obtained by 25 × 25 mm specimens.

Abstract:
Fracture toughness and Fatigue Crack Growth (FCG) experimental data represent the basis for accurate designs and integrity assessments of components containing crack-like defects. Considering ductile and high toughness structural materials, crack growing curves (e.g. J-R curves) and FCG data (in terms of da/dN vs. ΔK or ΔJ) assumed paramount relevance since characterize, respectively, ductile fracture and cyclic crack growth conditions. In common, these two types of mechanical properties severely depend on real-time and precise crack size estimations during laboratory testing. Optical, electric potential drop or (most commonly) elastic unloading compliance (C) techniques can be employed. In the latter method, crack size estimation derives from C using a dimensionless parameter (μ) which incorporates specimen’s thickness (B), elasticity (E) and compliance itself. Plane stress and plane strain solutions for μ are available in several standards regarding C(T), SE(B) and M(T) specimens, among others. Current challenges include: i) real specimens are in neither plane stress nor plane strain - modulus vary between E (plane stress) and E/(1-ν2) (plane strain), revealing effects of thickness and 3-D configurations; ii) furthermore, side-grooves affect specimen’s stiffness, leading to an “effective thickness”. Previous results from current authors revealed deviations larger than 10% in crack size estimations following existing practices, especially for shallow cracks and side-grooved samples. In addition, compliance solutions for the emerging clamped SE(T) specimens are not yet standardized. As a step in this direction, this work investigates 3-D, thickness and side-groove effects on compliance solutions applicable to C(T), SE(B) and clamped SE(T) specimens. Refined 3-D elastic FE-models provide Load-CMOD evolutions. The analysis matrix includes crack depths between a/W=0.1 and a/W=0.7 and varying thicknesses (W/B = 4, W/B = 2 and W/B = 1). Side-grooves of 5%, 10% and 20% are also considered. The results include compliance solutions incorporating all aforementioned effects to provide accurate crack size estimation during laboratory fracture and FCG testing. All proposals revealed reduced deviations if compared to existing solutions.
