Full textAs a primary objective, the present work aims to summarize the current knowledge on intercity and regional passenger railway transportation, focusing on tilting train technology, also known as car body tilt. As a secondary objective, the present work seeks to analyze the influence of tilting train technology on the design, implementation and operation of new railway corridors, with emphasis on design phase, showing the potential of this technology to increase speeds and reduce travel times. Railway passenger transportation issues, such as passenger comfort, rolling stock technical specifications and implementation and operational costs are addressed. Additionally, different aspects between conventional and tilting trains are also discussed. Three case studies help clarify the correlation between tilting train operation and railway design, especially the geometric design; further, with the help of speed simulations and comparisons, the potential use of tilting train operations are demonstrated. With the theoretical basis and the case studies, a critical analysis is made, allowing as a better understanding of railway passenger transportation with regards to the use of tilting rolling stock and its possibilities. The results of the case studies and the critical analysis present a considerable reduction in travel times, between 8,1 and 20,0%, with the operation of tilting trains in the place of the conventional rolling stock.

This thesis investigates the effects of roll cages and stiffening rods on car-body deformation by using the software package Ansys, together with the CAD software ProE, to perform finite element analysis. Based on the measurement of a real car body, a CAD model was first created using ProE, and imported to Ansys to perform static analysis with loadings applied on various parts of the model. The analysis results were set as the baseline for later use. Then, several types of commercially-available roll cages and stiffening rods were modeled and added to the baseline model to create another 9 sets of modified models, which consequently were analyzed and the results compared with the baseline. In this research, finite element static analyses were executed on 10 models with various types of roll cages and stiffening rods and with the same loading and boundary conditions. The goal was to find the best model with the minimum deformation and maximum stiffness. The model coded TC3-XU, although the heaviest, was superior to all others in bending stiffness. The model coded TC2000-V performed better than TC3-XU in torsion stiffness, but the latter could replace the U-shaped rod by a lighter and stronger material. Therefore, according to 8 discussion remarks, TC3-XU was concluded as the best model for this research.

The aim of this thesis is to design and analyze the body base of three-wheeled electric car, according to the specifications of 24th National Universities Super-mileage Competition organized by SAE International Taipei Section 2016 rule book. The work focuses on the important design parameters of the car and mechanical parameters, using the information and relevant approximations. In this study, a delta form body base of three-wheeled vehicle with two wheels in the rear axle (1F2R) is designed, analyzed and constructed with the specification respects to the requirement and regulation. The steering model which affects the frame design is chosen and calculated to get the best steering geometry. The driver’s seat and body shell are also designed with the best ergonomic posture and driving comfortably of the driver. The Solidworks software’s program is used to design the body base. Based on the design part, deformation on the chassis frame at load condition and stress distribution along each element can be determined. Finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of ANSYS program are utilized to simulate and analyze the static stability and fluid dynamics factor parameters which are evaluated with respect to various conditions to result a high suitable size of chassis frame and drag coefficient of body shell. In regard to the simulation, FEA and CFD are performed to find the value of safety factor (SF) rating of the frame and drag coefficient of the body shell. Other parts and equipment are also designed and fabricated by following the rule, regulation and requirements.

With the improvement of human being's living standards and the wide application of plastic related products, the demand for plastic container products has also increased. In order to meet the needs of users, this study try to use the existing one-cavity mold to optimize as a two-cavity mold. Furthermore, it use the mold flow analysis software to verify the feasibility of the mold design before developing a two-cavity mold, and the existing mold structure can be improved with using hot runner to develop the mold. With the way of optimizing the molding injection, we try to find the best molding parameter, and then optimize the mass production to be best. The results of the research in this paper show that the results of the simulation analysis by CAE are quite consistent with the actual injection parameters. For those molds with bigger ratio flow of length and wall thickness, the positioning method of the mold will changed from the mold base positioning to the mold core positioning. It actually improves the appearance of uneven wall thickness caused by the run-out as result of bigger ratio flow of length and wall thickness of the parts. The actual wall thickness of the mold is between 2.1 ~ 2.15mm. The actual optimization of the molding method makes the 2-cavity mold increased 32.7% compared with 1-cavity mold, and it actually improves the molding cycle time greatly. Under the verification of various test methods, the molding injection will make the mass production to be more stable.

Radio frequency identification of objects has been applied to logistics, inventory management, electronic toll collection, or bioengineering. By using backscattering to communicate between a reader and tags so as to increase reading range, UHF RFID has become popular in RFID systems. However, when on-body or on metal object application are required, the reading range is influenced by human-body dissipations or metallic short-circuit effects. There are still many problems which must be taken into account in the design of a tag when on-body applications. This thesis aims at designing a UHF-band card-type tag put on the packet near the chest of a human body for the diverse learning program in our university campus. In the beginning, we chose four kinds of high platform-tolerant tag antennas and evaluated the influences of a simple human model on the input impedance, power transmission coefficient and the radiation gain by an electromagnetic simulation. Also, the input impedances of these tag antennas are measured to verify the simulation results. The comparisons confirm the availability of the FEKO simulation tool. After choosing the best platform-tolerant tag antenna as a designing candidate, a slot-type tag put on the packet near the chest of a human body was designed. The FEKO simulation tool based on the hybrid FEM/MoM techniques is used to explore the influence of the body-proximity. The power transmission coefficient, the power gain, and the reading range are evaluated to investigate the influence of body proximity. Considering the influence of the human body effect, a tag to achieve a 2.6-meter reading range was designed as the output power of the reader is 4W EIRP. Also a practical tag was constructed and the reading range was measured to verify the find design put on the pocket near the chest of a human body. Since the slot-type antenna is strongly influenced by human body and thus the reading range is limited. The proposed tag was re-designed by adding parasitic scrip on the back-side of the substrate. We also studied whether the PIFA which has a ground plane can improve the reading range. Then, an improved slot-type antenna combined with a contemporary and most sensitive ASIC chip, Monza4, is proposed. When the human body is near the tag, the card-type tag with Monza4 chip, which can achieve a 3-meter reading range, was finally designed for the identification of the student card used in our university campus.
