Abstract:
Statement of the problem. The centuries-old development of the genre of piano caprice (capriccio), which led to its flourishing in the work of romantic composers, is considered as an integral part of the genre system in Western European piano music. Insufficient study of Mendelssohn’s piano works, in particular caprices, determines the relevance of the research. The purpose of the article is to generalize stylistic qualities of the composer’s piano caprices in the context of genre evolution and their performance features. Analysis of research and publications. The genre of caprice is studied in the historical research of T. Livanova (1983), who equates the form of fantasy and capriccio-ricercare. V. Protopopov (1979) reveals the connection between fantasycapriccio and fugue in the early 17th century. K. Agisheva (2007) examines the historical aspects of the study of the capriccio genre. Modern Western European researchers, analyzing the genre of piano caprice, emphasize that its musical texture is filled with elements of vocal lyrics and mood swings (Lewandowski, 2017; Keym, 2009). At the same time, the issues of performance features remain unclear. Methods. Complex methodological approach applied in the article (historical, genre, structural-functional, performаnce research methods) allows us to trace the development of caprice from the Baroque era to Romanticism and conduct an intonational-dramatic analysis of Mendelssohn’s works in accordance with the following criteria: musical form (dramaturgy), textural presentation, thematic development, tempo-rhythmic characteristics, nature of thematism. Analysis of recent research and publications. Baroque caprice is a work of polyphonic composition and improvisational construction (J. S.Bach, G.F. Handel, I. Sweelink, J. Frescobaldi). In the era of Viennese Classicism, caprice was not very popular due to its improvisational, bizarre nature, contradicting to the aesthetic ideals of the time. The genre of piano caprice became widespread in the era of Romanticism in the works of F. Mendelssohn, whose distinguished style is marked by virtuosity, melody, grace, sentimentality, clarity of presentation. Among the works of F. Mendelssohn there are seven caprices for solo piano and with orchestra. The intonational-dramatic analysis of Mendelssohn’s piano caprices makes it possible to trace the main stylistic qualities of the genre and to reveal its performance features. Conclusions. The work outlines the stylistic traits of Mendelssohn’s piano caprices ассording to such parameters: – compositional structure of his piano caprices is a one-movement composition or a cyclic one, composed of two or three movements; – texture of the music is determined by polyphonic orchestral elements and broad cantilena themes; – thematic development is based on repetition, variability or variation; – tempo-rhythm is characterized by three-beat pulsation, syncopation of rhythm, sharp accentuation; – thematicism is determined by synthesis of lyrical and decisively acting images inherent in the style of Mendelssohn. Hence, the main task for the performer is clarity, expressive intonation of the melody in combination with a “pearl” light touch and energetic dynamic tempo rhythm.

Abstract:
Nicolo Paganini (1782-1840) has long been viewed as an emblem of virtuosity, his music heard, if at all, through the variations and adaptations of other composers. This historical neglect and the Paganini mythos notwithstanding, the twenty-four Caprices, op. 1, published in 1820, establish his place as a serious composer whose innovations must be considered in any assessment of early Romanticism. In the Caprices, two voices seem to speak. The first is lyrical and draws on the vocal and operatic roots of PaganiniÕs musical upbringing. The second I have labeled the questive voice. Romanticism is an aesthetic of distance; the questive voice is a means of traversing the immensity that is the one essential feature of early Romanticism in its incarnations. This immensity manifests itself in the wide registral space opened and explored in the Caprices; in the motivically driven, asymmetrical construction of many passages found therein; and in the extensive harmonic reach of many of the Caprices. This article presents close readings of Caprices nos. 1, 2, 4, 9, and 10, drawing on Schenkerian methodologies and work by Ratner, Caplin, and Burnham to articulate the lyrical/questive dichotomy and interplay between technique and expression in these singular works by a singular composer.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Sir William Herschel (1738–1822) was a prominent musician and composer in the 18th century England. He worked as a concert director in several cities. In addition, he was a master of various instruments, and an active solo performer. Herschel composed numerous orchestral and solo works. His music, however, is hardly known today. Many of his compositions remained unpublished, among them the Twenty-Four Caprices for Solo Violin. These caprices are one of the earliest technical studies for the instrument, which must be brought to the intermediate violin students’ and violin teachers’ attentions. The purpose of this study is to create a practical edition of the Twenty-Four Caprices for Solo Violin, and to make it available for violinists by publishing them. The dissertation will look into the performance practice of Hershel’s caprices. Based on a thorough research of the violin methods, the edition will provide fingerings, bowings, and practicing suggestions which are useful for students who wish to improve violin technique. The author of this study strongly believes that these neglected technical studies are extremely beneficial works for violinists, and they deserve to be made public.

Abstract:
The frequency of occurrence of antibodies anti-caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus was studied in 14 herds in the State of São Paulo, during 2 years, using agar gel immunodiffusion. Prevalence was equal to 26.3%, and was significantly higher in animals kept under an intensive management scheme (31.8% - 733/2303), than in animals kept under a semi-extensive one (13.1% - 128- 977). Infection by the caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus increased gradual and significantly after 6 months of age. Infection was predominant in older animals. There was no gender influence on the prevalence of the disease, both in females (27.9% - 663/2375) and males (32.3% - 94/291). In relation to breed, prevalence of the disease was significantly higher in Anglo-Nubian (63.8% - 88/138) and Toggenbourg animals (56.0% - 28/50), than in the rest of the breeds studied: Saanen (27.4% - 673/2458), Alpine (11.9% - 59/497), Boer (5.9% - 2/34) and mixed breed animals (10.7% - 11/103). A clinical study of the animals infected by caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus was also performed. It was observed that 17.1% (64/374) of seroreagents presented the articular form of the disease and that 6.6% (17/249) of the seroreagent females presented the mammary form of the disease. The possibility of vertical, transplacentary transmission was lower than 3.8%. It was observed that the probability of infection of kids by colostrum of infected females was low (18.8% - 3/16). Antibodies passively acquired by colostrum ingestion lasted from 60 to 120 days. The presence and viability of the virus circulating in blood, colostrum and milk of infected animals, as well as the possibility of infection of susceptible animals by inoculation was indirectly demonstrated. Incubation period ranged from 45 to 60 days. There was no significant difference in serum levels of total protein and gammaglobulin, and in enzymatic activity of glutamiltransferase - γGT in kids that received colostrum from infected and non-infected females.

Abstract:
The issue of climate change and extreme climate events is at the heart of current societal concerns. In the context of different projects (RENASEC, CLIMURBS), this work examines the climate of western France between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries around different research perspectives. In continuing the work of Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie and Emmanuel Garnier, the ambition is to reconstruct the seasonal variability of the climate from different data stripped. It was possible to highlight changes that affect the climate for four centuries. The analysis of extreme climate events has allowed the reconstruction of their frequencies and their impacts on littoral communities and urban areas and raises the question of the vulnerability of societies. The documentary data have enabled to show the existence of a risk management since the sixteenth century. Conscious of their vulnerability, the populations have known, from prevention, land management, implement policies. The study of perception and memory of the event serves to analyze the evolution of the climate and the men and generally report to Nature. This development is essential in creating a memory of the event

Abstract:
The purpose of this project is to bring Kim’s caprices into the mainstream violin literature through a three-prong approach by examining each caprice via musical analysis, technical analysis, and by investigating its pedagogical merit. After inspecting each caprice through three different lenses mentioned above, the paper will organize the twelve caprices around a tripartite structure; serial, atonal, and free tonal. The work opens with a six-measure Motto. While the relationship between the Motto and the rest of the work is not immediately clear, thorough musical and formal analysis will provide insight into the work’s cohesion. This project will also examine pedagogically what specific technical challenges lay in selected caprices and how to solve thorny problems. The caprices are truly innovative in a sense that they present opportunities to understand non-tonal polyphonic writing on what is supposed to be a monophonic instrument while expanding the tradition of the Violin Caprice.
