Abstract:
TheCollaboration ofAustralia andNippon for aGAmmaRayObservatory in theOutback operates two large telescopes at Woomera (South Australia), which detect the Čerenkov light images produced in the atmosphere by electronpositron cascades initiated by very high energy (~1 TeV or 1012eV) gamma rays. These gamma rays arise from a different mechanism than at EGRET energies: inverse Compton (IC) emission from relativistic electrons. The spoke-like images are recorded by a multi-pixel camera which facilitates the rejection of the large numbers of oblique and ragged cosmic ray images. A field of view ~3.5° is required. The Australian team operates a triple 4 m diameter mirror telescope, BIGRAT, with a 37 photomultiplier tube camera and energy threshold 600 GeV. The Japanese operate a single, highly accurate 3.8 m diameter f/1 telescope and high resolution 256 photomultipler tube camera. In 1998 a new 7 m telescope is planned for Woomera with a design threshold ~;200GeV.

Abstract:
AbstractWe have observed eight AGN since 1993 in the energy region above several hundred GeV using the CANGAROO telescopes. We observed Mrk 421 for ten nights with the CANGAROO-II 10 m telescope during its active state in early 2001 using the very large zenith angle technique. Our preliminary result implies the detection of gamma-ray emission from Mrk 421 in the energy range above 9.3 TeV. The high energy peaked BL Lacs (HBLs) PKS 2005–489 and PKS 2155–304 have been also observed. No statistically significant signals are found for both HBLs and flux upper limits are obtained. A summary of results of observations of AGN is presented in this paper.

The current status of very high energy gamma ray astronomy (in ~ 1 TeV region) is described by using as example results of CANGAROO (Collaboration of Australia and Nippon for a GAmma Ray Observatory in the Outback). Gamma rays at TeV energies, emitted through inverse Compton effect of electrons or π0 decay from proton interaction, provide direct evidence on “hot” non-thermal processes of the Universe, as well as environmental features, such as the strength of magnetic field in the emission region, for the non-thermal processes.

Abstract:
The cangaço and the backland have been recurrent themes in the Brazilian literature. In each epoch in which they are used as raw material for the construction of literary or cinematic texts, these terms assume distinct meanings. As a consequence, it is possible to say that the discovery of new emanated meanings from these words in the novel Os desvalidos (1993), written by Francisco José Costa Dantas, makes a singular analysis of the contemporary social relations possible. This narrative brings from these significants new meanings about Virgulino Ferreira, the Lampião, and his group as well. It reveals the presence of the woman among the cangaceiros and shows the daily life of common people, like Coriolano, a narrator character, Felipe, Zerramo, Maria Melona and other people, in the northeastern of Brazil, during the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the Estado Novo, in the twentieth century. People from this region were immerged in an unfinished modernization process of a capitalist order which was coming. Their fears, desires and uneasiness are disclosed in their personal dramas. The construction of this literary approach, therefore, is in the intersection point between the art of make literature and the historical fiction; a point in which events and memories of an epoch disclose the emblematic dialog between the social context and the cultural imaginary. The plot of this novel is driven in the backland man in the cangaço of the Os desvalidos backland, taking as a starting point the theoretical and methodological approach guided by the cultural studies, in such a way that, associated with the Literature, Gender Studies, History and Psychoanalysis, it is possible to have deeper analysis regarding the socio-cultural context of this masterpiece, taking advantage of some categories as ambivalence and chronotope, by Mikhail Bakhtin, a man-narrative, by Todorov Tzvetan; homology, by Lucien Goldmann, and free association, by Sigmund Freud.

The history of the conflict among the city of Mossoró and the cangaceiros that tried to assault it in 1927 offered a starting point for the investigation of the constituent elements of their religiosities presented in this study. We tried to investigate the religiosity of the city, as part of the official Catholicism, and of the cangaceiros , as popular religiosity, for visualize the social relationship among them. For so much, we studied the origin and the development of the city of Mossoró as social consequence of the religion and, in the sequence, we tried to verify as the cangaço appeared and grew in the society, besides understanding its religious practice in the relationship with its compound world. We verified that different characters thieves, common men and authorities maintained religious trust in front of the armed danger; in other words, the mystic of the rites operated externally to the imaginary forces, constituting mental operations to face the enemies. Finally, the research approaches the current relationship of the city with the cangaço and, mainly, it verifies which reasons are took to consider Jararaca a saint of the popular religiosity.

Abstract:
Title: “Looking for the right development project model for Huancarucma, from an Art & Design approach”. Our diagnostic study is situated in the rural community of Huancarucma, located in Cangallo, in the central Ayacucho region. An immediate consideration for this scenario leads us to the fratricidal confrontation led by Shining Path more than 25 years, which caused increased poverty in rural Andean zones, encouraged the emigration of the population between ages 15 and 40 and delayed even more the communities’ opportunities to coordinate their own development. In 2012, Ayacucho has levels of poverty and extreme poverty well above expectations, despite the efforts of the responsible agencies at the governmental and private levels to reverse the situation. Huancarucma is an ancient rural community and an example of a place that, even after the disastrous experience of the civil war of the nineties, has not yet been lifted out of poverty and remains unable to guide its development in a dignified manner. The aim of this thesis was to identify the elements of projects managed from the Art and Design approach of Axis Arte, an interdisciplinary team of applied research and analyze experiences that generate development projects through existing heritage culture, to develop later interventions through projects aimed at developing and strengthening their identity, appropriate to the characteristics and social dynamics of the Andean Community of Huancarucma. This was achieved through andiagnostic study, as a proposal that indicates some routes for people to creatively confront their sustainable development needs, and especially thinking about future generations. In line with our objectives, this investigation analyzed various aspects of the existing elements in projects and on intervention strategies for projects such as the experience of Axis Arte projects that could enrich and enable a future intervention in community projects of Huancarucma, intending to replicate it later, once validated the experience, to other communities with similar characteristics. The research defined as a qualitative diagnostic study concluded with a development project model that takes into account an interdisciplinary approach, combining from a strategic perspective, a social, cultural and productive focus, using culture as input to develop entrepreneurship, products and services with their own designs, creative and innovated ahead of market demand. With such a development approach, we can strengthen the identity, sustainability target in time and help reverse emigration patterns to give job opportunities especially to young people and women. The need to generate youth leadership especially, of their developing opportunities to educate and create community enterprises may be a prerequisite for strengthening the weakened social fabric that needs to be rebuilt. Young people with a torrent of youth, enthusiasm and great appreciation for their community can also help improve the governance of the community if given the opportunity and can also create an environment for them to grow and develop their talents, to achieve the human development which is the ultimate goal of Social Management.

This study aims to establish a comparative analysis between novels of the twentieth century Brazilian literature, regarding the approach taken by the works of social and historical phenomenon of the cangaço. The works Fogo Morto of José Lins do Rego and the Os Desvalidos of Francisco Dantas represent two different moments of northeast fictional production. The first work is inserted into the fiction of the '30s and '40s. The Fogo Morto consists in the tenth novel of the writer represented by character Jose Amaro, saddler that turns into helper outlaw Antonio Silvino. The second works published in 1993 represents regional fiction. The novel is based in the point of view of character Coriolano that unlike Jose Amaro he demonstrates hatred by cangaço represented by Lampião. The comparative analysis of the work was preceded by a historical study of the cangaço, as well as, the ambiguous characterization of the “cangaçeiro” presents in the northeast popular imagination. Indeed, the cangaceiro is represented as hero and sometimes seen as outlaw. The contradictory point of view appears in the two novels analyzed in this work. The historical approach of the cangaço is made from studies of authors such as Facó Rui (1983), Maria Isaura Pereira de Queiroz (1977) and Luis Bernardo Pericás (2010). It was also essential a brief survey of Camara Cascudo (2005) which helps to understand the cangaceiro as a regional folk hero. Finally, for the comparative study between of Fogo Morto and Os Desvalidos were used works of authors such as José Paulo Paes (1995) and Sonia Lucia Ramalho de Farias (2006), which supply important elements to relation between works of nature regionalist produced by writers from the Northeast.

This dissertation has the aim to discuss the women's practices and representations in the cangaço from 1930 to 1940, time that started their incorporation in the bands. Considering the ways of joining them (volunteer or not), we searched the comprehension and discussion of the roles given to the cangaceiras and their specific condition of being a woman in a space characterized by the violence. In this sense, it will be relevant to consider the performance with guns and the deeds of each of them in the violent fights in which they were involved.
Abstract: This dissertation has the aim to discuss the women's practices and representations in the cangaço from 1930 to 1940, time that started their incorporation in the bands. Considering the ways of joining them (volunteer or not), we searched the comprehension and discussion of the roles given to the cangaceiras and their specific condition of "being a woman" in a space characterized by the violence. In this sense, it will be relevant to consider the performance with guns and the deeds of each of them in the violent fights in which they were involved. Also, the worry about the beauty of the body, the liking for jewels and several accessories identified, specially, in the combination of their clothing, which translates a determined profile of woman. Basing ourselves on this kind of problem, one of the concerns of this research is to analyze the interpersonal experiences inside the groups from specialized bibliography of memoir authors that worked on the topic and other sources, such as: oral testimonies, interviews, documentaries, photos, press and cordel literature.
