Abstract:
Music care is a developing approach to care that allows the therapeutic principles of music to inform caring practices in both formal healthcare settings and community or home-based contexts, and to create an integral role in developing more relational and person-centered cultures in caregiving. A significant part of the music care approach is a conceptual framework describing 10 domains of delivery. This article is the third in a three-part series on the theory and applications of a music care framework. Music is increasingly being recognized in health care communities as an effective psychosocial and rehabilitative intervention, increasing many aspects of quality of life. Currently, there is little standardization as to how music may best be integrated into individual care goals and care settings, though a growing body of literature supports the important impact of music in health care. It is this absence of standardization that has led the authors to develop a music care conceptual framework, so the varying scopes of practice that integrate music can be distinguished from one another and new possibilities for optimizing music in care can be identified. While the first study in this series examined how music care is understood in Canadian long term care facilities (1), the purpose of the second study explored how music could be optimized in complex continuing care environments, using one such facility in Ontario, Canada, as an exploration site (2). The 10 Domains of Music Care presented in this paper can be used as both a research tool and a practical, actionable tool for healthcare providers, managers, and decision makers. The paper discusses the 10 domains of music care delivery, need for a music care conceptual framework, and the implications and applications the framework provides. Abstract:
The object of the work is at the intersection of different disciplines: literature, education, sociology and psychology. The thesis includes a thematic analysis of some novels written in English language by six women writers of Indian origin, in particular, Jamila Gavin, Rachna Gilmore, Anjali Banerjee, Rukhsana Khan, Ravinder Randhawa and Meera Syal. The first chapter traces the theoretical premises and the methodological framework, defining the genre of children's literature and questioning about its specificity in a postcolonial context. The second chapter is dedicated to the second generation identity issue, in particular on the Indo-British and Indo-Canadian identity definition. The third chapter focuses on the intergenerational dialogue between the protagonists and their grandparents, including the standpoint of those excluded from official history. Furthermore, it analyses the perception of diversity and the self-definition of youth through clothing. The final chapter deals with the definition of identity carried through spaces, places and journeys.

Abstract:
Abstract:
2012-2013
Autobiography is a highly problematic genre whose main features are commonly considered memory, experience and identity. Nonetheless, there is also an inevitably degree of fiction-making concerned with the autobiographical act, as most autobiographies are inspired by a creative, and therefore fictional, impulse to select only those events and experiences in the writer’s life that build up an integrated pattern. As such, this encourages questions about fact and fiction, about the relations between reality and the text, and about origins: in this sense, there is a necessary link between the conditions – political, economic, and social – in which writers find themselves and the kinds of stories they choose to tell. The space they inhabit and the accrued meanings of space and time play a constitutive role in their narratives; but space is not given: it is culturally constructed or produced, it incorporates temporal change. The progresses in technology, the new media and migrations have finally led to «time-space compression», and to the concept of nonplaces, where the individual is out-of-the-world. In this sense, Canada perfectly represents what it means to live in a «third space» of in-betweenness: so, we will see how German-Canadian writer Frederick Philip Grove avoids categorization of literary nationalism locating himself in an isolated and paradigmatic position between literatures; we will appreciate Mordecai Richler, whose irony is crucial in order to describe the moments and spaces given to a Canadian Jew in Montreal’s ghetto; finally, we will look at Michael Ondatjee’s continuous references to the cultural and political situation in Sri Lanka, and how he uses these connections to build a sort of third-person autobiography through which he can recover the memory of the places from his Ceylonese childhood. At the end of this analysis, it will be clear how many difficulties the autobiographical impulse has to face, how many parameters it has to respect, and how much truth and fiction influence and corrupt each other. Abstract:
The aim of this research paper is to analyse the literary works and the writers of Italian origin who have actively contributed to the creation of Italian-Canadian immigration literature, and above all, that referent to the Montreal milieu. For this and other reasons, it distinguishes itself from other Italian-Canadian productions and precisely due to this reality, the objective of this research is to: (1) examine its role, its characteristics, the difficulties its writers experience, its literary artistic value and the recognition it receives in our literary environment; (2) compare the creative approach adopted by some writers to the perfect example, Primo Levi; (3) expose its contents and reoccurring themes; (4) examine the question of the literary language of expression of these works; (5) demonstrate the social usefulness of this literary production.

Ferrari, Francesca <1996&gt. "Multiple Consciousness: Rethinking Italian Canadian Women Writers through Susanna Moodie." Master's Degree Thesis, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10579/20343.

Abstract:
An inaugural text for launching feminist works and lives in Canadian literature, Susanna Moodie’s Roughing It In the Bush has served as a groundbreaking, multigenre experiment for recent generations of Canadian writers. A didactic book, an autobiography, and a sketchbook on the toilsome experience of immigration recounted through the eyes of a British gentlewoman, Moodie’s narrative articulates the excruciating coexistence of two distant worlds: the Old (England) and the New (Canada). The cultural dynamism of bridging the two worlds, also typical of the immigrant autobiographical form, is also central to the works of many Italian Canadian women writers. Both Caterina Edwards and Mary Melfi, who wrote respectively the memoirs Finding Rosa and Italy Revisited, use the binary oppositions of old/new, past/present, reality/imagination as vantage points to express their being-in-the-world. Italian Canadian women writers were first launched by the poet Pier Giorgio Di Cicco, in his poetry collection Roman Candles (1978). This watershed collection illuminates a new consciousness informed by multiple identities based neither in Italy nor in Canada. Displaced, voiceless and marginalized, Italian Canadians are at home everywhere and nowhere, as the diasporic theory of “Italics” currently argues.

Abstract:
Margaret Atwood’s writings have been the subject of many critical studies from different theoretical angles, which outline the diverse and composite quality of the Canadian author’s literary explorations. The publication of the MaddAddam trilogy – Oryx and Crake (2003), The Year of the Flood (2009), and MaddAddam (2013) – have opened yet another critical perspective, which is that of science fiction or, as Atwood herself defines it, speculative fiction. Moving from the Canadian roots of Atwood’s speculative texts and from the debate with Ursula K. Le Guin on science fiction, this study employs the interpretative tools provided by ecocriticism and posthumanism to investigate Atwood’s trilogy as a single and accomplished body of work. In the second chapter, devoted to Oryx and Crake, I explore the developments of Atwood’s lifelong interest in the nature and politics of power, and I argue that she employs parody as a subverting strategy that questions roles and discourses involved in power relations. In the third chapter, I analyze The Year of the Flood as an investigation in the religious roots of culture, which represents a bulwark against the ruthless dreams – or nightmares – of scientific and technological progress. Lastly, I engage with the critical discourses on nature and on the environmental crisis, to attain the conclusion that, in MaddAddam, hybridity and a revived awareness of the power of narration represent a strategy of survival. Ultimately, my goal lies in analyzing Atwood’s aesthetic responses to the urgency of the environmental crisis, which rely on the tools of storytelling and on the playful use of language. At bottom, I argue that these tools serve as aesthetic responses to the threat of a dystopian future.

Abstract:
In 1658 the famous historiographer Gualdo Priorato published Scena d’huomeni illustri (1658), a book of elogia, meant to celebrate some of the most well-known politician, captains, and writers of his time. The paper tackles mainly two issues that this volume raises. First, it examines how Gualdo Priorato, through his book, took part to the contemporary ‘querelle des Anciens et des Modernes’, lining up with the modern party. Secondly, it sheds new light on the political message of the book, in which there are several allusions to the contemporary war of Candia, not fully compatible with the classic statements of the neo-roman republicanism.
