Abstract:
It has been argued that “the history of New Zealand is unique because the period of pioneer colonization closely coincided with the invention and development of photography”1. However, as the first successfully recorded photograph in the country was not made until the late 1840s, the widespread use of photography came after the initial European settlement and its influence coincided more closely with the development of early tourism and with the exploration and later promotion of the country’s wild and remote places. The photographic partnership of William Hart and Charles Campbell followed the path of the gold miners into the hinterland of the South Island aware of its potential commercial photographic value. Photographers understood the “great public interest in what the colony looked like and inthe potential for features that would command international attention”2. Photography was promoted as presenting the world as it was, free of the interpretation of the artist. By the early 1880s the Hart, Campbell portfolio was extensive and their work featured at exhibitions in London, Sydney and Melbourne. Yet their photographs were criticised for fakery and William Hart’s photograph of Sutherland Falls, ‘the world’s highest waterfall’, promoted a quite inaccurate claim.

The increasing needs for basic materials has resulted in an increased production process of basic materials in a company. CV. Puspa is a manufacturing company engaged in the production of rice, on the production process, CV. Puspa often has a buildup of work so that it requires an alternative production scheduling optimally. This research was conducted to minimize the total time of completion using the Campbell Dudek Smith and Dannenbring method in determining efficient production scheduling. Based on the scheduling sequence obtained, the calculation results of the total completion time using the Campbell Dudek Smith method are less than or equal to the results of calculation using the Dannenbring method. So the Campbell Dudek Smith method is more efficient than the Dannenbring method to be applied to CV. Puspa.

Abstract:
The poems ‘Ngoài Giấc Ngủ’ and ‘Hiện Ra’ were included in the book poetry collection—also titled Ngoài Giấc Ngủ—published in California, USA, in 1990 and featuring sixty-seven poems by Melbourne-based Nguyễn Tiên Hoàng, writing under the pen name, Thường Quán. In 1994 the Journal of Vietnamese Studies (Melbourne) published the poem ‘Ngoài Giấc Ngủ,’ together with a first English language version co-translation, titled ‘Beyond,’ by Ian Campbell and Tony Chu. An adaptation of the poem was sung in Vietnamese ngâm style by Thu Huong Huynh, as part of ‘A Spring Evening of Poetry, Translated Verse and Music’ held in 1995 in Sydney to mark 50 years of post-war migration to Australia. The English language version later appeared in 1996, with the original poem in Vietnamese, in a Sydney-based Vietnamese language newspaper, and in 2002 the English language translation appeared again in Sunlines: An Anthology of Poetry to Celebrate Australia’s Harmony in Diversity, edited by Anne Fairbairn (Canberra: Dept. of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, 2002). Most recently the English language co-translation of the poem has appeared in Nguyễn Tiên Hoàng’s collection, Captive and Temporal, published by Vagabond Press (Sydney and Tokyo, 2017). The poem, ‘Ngoài Giấc Ngủ,’ now appears in its Vietnamese language original form (1990), and in an English language co-translation by Chu and Campbell which varies slightly from all previous translations. An English language version of the poem, ‘Hiện Ra,, has never been previously published and appears now in a co-translation as ‘Becoming Visible,’ together with the 1990 poem in its original Vietnamese language version.

Abstract:
AbstractIn 1914 the Northern Exploration Company of London employed Commander Victor Campbell (the leader of the Northern Party of Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova expedition of 1910–1913) to voyage to Spitsbergen in charge of a mineral-prospecting team. Campbell sailed in the schooner Willem Barents, taking Michael Barne (the second lieutenant on the British National Antarctic Expedition of 1901–1904) as mate. There was a mixed British and Norwegian crew. Between May and August, Campbell took the schooner to various sites between Recherchefjorden and Krossfjorden on the west coast of Spitsbergen, maintaining two-way contact with London through the Norwegian radio station at Grønfjorden. Hearing that war was about to break out, the expedition visited the German meteorological station at Ebeltofthamna, then sailed back to Norway, from where the British members returned to England.

Abstract:
Positioned between writing and drawing, the diagram is proposed by John Berger as an alternative strategy for articulating encounters with landscape. A diagrammatic approach offers a schematic vocabulary that can compress time and offer a spatial reading of information. Situated within the contemporary field of direct data visualisation, my practice-led research interprets Berger’s ‘Field’ essay as a guide to producing four field | studies within a suburban park in Canberra. My seasonal investigations demonstrate how applying the conventions of the pictorial list, dot-distribution map, routing diagram and colour-wheel reveals subtle ecological and biographical narratives.

Abstract:
When President Kananjar “Kan” Shivaram Shetty bought the paint business Omega Industries in 2000, little did he know it would grow into a leading global company at the forefront of innovation with commercial and industrial coatings and paintings. At the time, Omega Industries had been operating at a loss of $200,000. However, it was Kan's faith in the business and willingness to learn the secrets of his trade that resulted in Omega Industries substantially expanding their operations through the acquisition with Apco Coatings, securing major contracts with the government and entering new profitable sectors. Today, the company has 200-250 project-based staff across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Malaysia, UAE, and Texas in the United States and has manufactured 600 different products. This chapter dives into Kan's background, the business challenges he faced, and how he was able to accelerate Omega Industries' growth into a global innovative company.

Abstract:
Shedding lights on biological episodes in Beckett’s writing, Julie Campbell in this chapter focuses specifically on the fear of diving that he experienced at six years old, which recurs from the early poem ‘For Future Reference’ to the later fiction Company, and analyses how and why it was traumatic for him. The incident, together with the shame and the sense of guilt he felt in mourning his father’s death, traumatised him. Beckett’s trauma, caused by his remorseful feeling that he had betrayed his father’s expectations, is perhaps most strongly reflected by the character Henry in Beckett’s radio play Embers. Henry is obsessed with the death of his father, who drowned at sea but whose body was not found. Henry denies his father’s death as if trying to expunge it from his memory. His distress, anger, bitterness, and confusion are expressed in his commands of his own actions and of the story of Bolton and Holloway. The radio listeners witness Henry’s inner feelings and share in his suffering.

Abstract:
Storytelling, as a marketing innovation, is the market communication tool that allows present the facts in a coherent and attractive way so as to stand out from the competition and more effectively influence the consumer’s imagination and engagement. It can be concluded that the history of storytelling itself dates back to the beginnings of mankind, when humans started to transfer knowledge from generation to generation. The chapter indicates that storytelling evokes emotions in customers, and these in turn affect commitment and action. The most important and primary elements of storytelling include superior message, conflict, characters (the archetypes) and plot. Each good story can be based on a few important points, which are well described by the concept proposed by American writer Joseph Campbell. In addition, the chapter also presents examples of sources of inspiration for storytelling. Among them, it is worth mentioning, for example: history of the company’s founder or president, the beginnings of the company, employees’ stories or milestones (successes or failures). The last part presents two case studies of the use of storytelling by enterprises. These are examples from the Polish market regarding the use of storytelling in employee recruitment and customer engagement.

Abstract:
This chapter begins with the actual deaths of each of the actresses who contributed to Yeats’s Deirdre, stressing what is at stake in who gets credit for theatrical performance and then arguing for the different role each actress played in the development of this play. Yeats’s dependence on Lady Gregory, Maud Gonne, Florence Farr, Sara Allgood, Florence Darragh, and Mrs. Patrick Campbell in the creation of Deirdre clashed with his obsession with class-based individuality. Deirdre, like Yeats’s earliest plays written with and for Laura Armstrong, dramatizes the death of the heroine. Yeats tried to mold the Deirdre he wanted from actresses who appealed to him because they seemed other, different from the largely middle-class Abbey company, and reflective of his own ideal of female Irishness. The arguments between Yeats as writer and director and the actresses find their way into these revisions, changes that highlight tensions between gendered versions of events. The competing Deirdres of the Abbey and Yeats’s thousand pages of revisions show attempts to claim contested ground. The history of the play reveals tensions around ownership and representation as the women who inspired and performed the part revised Yeats’s initial vision and challenged Yeats’s idea of solitary, aristocratic ownership.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract A 300 kW integrated and fully-sealed turbine generator for natural gas pressure letdown (PLD) was developed by Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE), in conjunction with Calnetix Technologies. This paper describes the design and analysis of the generator, magnetic bearings, and touchdown bearings, with a focus on the dynamic performance and key characteristics of the machine. The permanent magnetic (PM) synchronous generator is supported by PM-biased, homopolar magnetic bearings and has a maximum continuous operating speed (MCOS) of 31.5 krpm. A touchdown bearing system is implemented using rolling element bearings, with soft mount supports. Also described is a thrust load balancing scheme that uses the thrust bearing coil current for reference. A time transient simulation showing the effect of process conditions on the AMB dynamics is shown. Preliminary data from the prototype mechanical run test are shown, including transfer functions measured using the magnetic bearings, Campbell diagram, and touchdown bearing drop test results.

Full text
Abstract:
As an integrated system, turbofan engine airworthiness certification is a complex network because design, operating conditions and multi-disciplines are interlaced. Inlet compatibility specified in FAR regulations is to demonstrate satisfactory of engine operating characteristics throughout the flight envelope, which can be affected by engine installation and operation conditions. One limited operating condition is the high crosswind on the ground. Flow separated at engine inlet, unsteady and non-uniform, passing through the diffuser to the fan face, stimulated the fan blade at a broad frequency range, which could lead to high cycle fatigue. A ground crosswind test was conducted by an airplane company to demonstrate the engine inlet compatibility with engine mounted on the rear of the aircraft under various crosswind conditions [1] including 90-degree crosswind, quarterly headwind (315-degree) and quarterly tailwind (225-degree). Results showed that among all tested ambient wind conditions, the engine was the least stable under quarterly tailwind (225-degree). To predict the fan blade response driven by inlet separation, a process of evaluating inlet separation induced stimulus was illustrated in this paper. The stimuli were classified in two parts, i) synchronous stimulus induced by inlet distortion, and ii) non-synchronous stimulus induced by turbulence. Vibration of a wide-chord fan blade was evaluated by modal analysis and Campbell diagram. Test data of total pressure distortion at fan face were analyzed by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and the excitations in frequency domain were applied to fan blade for harmonic analysis. Results revealed that the synchronous excitation caused the blade resonating at an elevated stress level, as expected. This study provided a preliminary assessment and a better understanding of fan aeromechanics, when the engine is operating at the unsteady, unstable, and non-uniform flow environment. Discussions of how to control and how to decrease the vibration level were given in the study.
