Full textIn order to decrease the economic, environmental and social consequences caused by inadequate waste management, some information, awareness and education campaigns try to lead the population toward better behaviours related to waste management. Nevertheless, the evaluation concerning the impacts these campaigns have on consumers (i.e. households) is very often neglected due to the lack of time, skills and/or money. Therefore, based on four variables of the Theory of Planned Behaviour [TBP], particularly the attitudes, the subjective norms, the perceived behavioural control and the behavioural intentions, this master’s thesis proposes some solutions, which assess the influence of the exposure and involvement concerning the environmental campaign “Défi Minceur – 2lb/ semaine”. The analysis of the results from a post-campaign phone survey conducted on a random sample of 432 representative residents of the Arthabaska County shows that the participation in this challenge was significantly and positively correlated to the variables mentioned above. Likewise, a low exposure compared to a high one induces significant differences on all variables, although no disparity was noted between participants who were moderately and strongly exposed. These results constitute an original and interesting input to the social communication field and also contribute to the questions concerning the optimization of environmental campaigns.

Full textThis research aims at enriching the field of critical discourse analysis through the study of messages which have been little explored until now, namely the discourse of social advertising. This term refers to campaigns that ask for a donation, or try to discourage or advocate certain behaviours in the name of public interest. The corpus is made of 57 social campaigns, promoted in Italy and in France between 2018 and 2020. No limit of topic has been fixed. As far as advertisers are concerned, campaigns promoted by public institutions, private companies and non-profit organisations have been analysed. The focus lies on the discourse strategies used in this corpus, which is very recent and has been studied from a comparative point of view. The aim was to see if major similarities or differences would be revealed, depending on the topic, the advertiser, the target and the objective. This research has been carried out from a sociolinguistic perspective, and more specifically from the point of view of critical discourse analysis, argumentation, rhetoric, semantics and pragmatics. In order to examine the corpus chosen, an analysis table has been created, so as to make the most of the resources provided by the different branches of linguistics. This table is organised into three plans – which do not correspond with a hierarchisation –, namely a linguistic plan, a pragmatic plan and a rhetorical plan

Full textThe subject in which my research is interested is related to influence phenomenon analysed through mass-communication effects and particuliarly, those which are stremmed from the mass media. This research attemps to determine mass media effects on individual opinions, knowledges and behaviors. This research focused upon interpersonal influences where receptors's positions are considered involving in the appurtenance and referential groups and, also, the role of those groups in changing attitudes, and its fonction with regards to mass media. All kinds of such problems are be studied through health education campaigns which used mass media to stem their messages and, thus, tried to promote the more effective behaviors for best health among population and specialy, among young children ; i, thus, analysed the effects of health education campaign brodcasted by algerian television during summer 1983. I studied, the way by which differents types of women are reached by information, directly or relayed by interpersonal relations such as doctor or circle of friends and so on. . . . 254 women, living in urban or rural sectors has been asked on the basis of a questionnaire

Full textTaking into account the importance of the role of parents in accompanying the children (3-5 years old) through the discovery of an interactive scientific and technical exhibition, this research offers : (1) a typology of parents' practical attitudes according to their relevance to activities' context and children's capacities ; (2) the elaboration of a Parents Training Scheme (PTS) aiming mainly at changing parents attitudes towards their child, including a film used as support for parents debate and testimonies ; (3), an evaluation of the PTS. The study was conducted within the "3-5 years old" exhibition of the Cité des Enfants ("Children corner") of the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (Paris). A total of 67 parent-child couples were observed (60 for the development of the typology of practical attitudes and 7 for the evaluation of the PTS) and their exchanges transcribed and analysed in reference to different models (tutorial acts, coversational pragmatics, and parents' distancing acts). The hypothesis suggesting that previous awareness of their role as tutor modifies the way parents accompany their children is verified. Analysis show a sharp and individualised evolution from their first visit at the museum to their second one, in between which the PTS intervened. This data is discussed in relation to previous studies on parent's training

Full textIn Quebec, despite the important prevention, educational and awareness efforts deployed over the past forty years, drinking and driving is one of the main road safety concerns. This problem is even more pronounced among young drivers (16 to 24 years old), who are systematically overrepresented in drunk driving related accidents and infractions. To better understand problematic behaviours related to drinking and driving among young drivers in Quebec and why they persist, we sought out young drivers’ perspectives of the subject. Our inductive approach is based on grounded theory, which gives precedence to participants’ experiences, from which is built, iteratively, a theorized understanding of a problem. A total of 57 young drivers (18 to 24 years old) took part in online group interviews that we organized from September to December of 2015. Participants were asked about their perceptions, beliefs, and behaviours related to drinking and driving. The exchanges were then analyzed inductively, leading to a theorization based on the identification of four main barriers to adopting responsible driving among young drivers, namely 1) a misperception of the risks associated with drinking and driving, 2) a significant difficulty in moderating alcohol consumption, 3) a misunderstanding of how to assess the ability to drive after drinking, as well as 4) erroneous perceptions of the solutions to driving after drinking too much. Through their combination, our analysis brought to light a largely unknown risky behaviour, buzzed driving, which we found to be a form of illegal driving that contributes to the persistence of the drinking and driving problem among young drivers. A type of drunk or impaired driving, buzzed driving is distinguishable due to the driver perceptions. Having drunk only a little too much alcohol, the intoxicated driver usually shows very little evidence of alcohol intoxication. Hence, he has difficulty recognizing his inability to drive. The four barriers previously identified explain this problematic behaviour and its adoption by young drivers. Moreover, they allow us to suggest possible solutions to overcome the barriers to the adoption of safe behaviours regarding buzzed driving.

Full textForms of mobilization in favor of health prevention through physical exercise evolved under the action of proselytes or public health systems since the end of the 19th century. The study presented here focuses on the analysis of the public health campaigns geared towards the promotion of "physically active lifestyles" between 1960 and 2010. Three successive devices are observed during this period under as a socio-historical paying an constant attention to the mechanisms - both ethical and cognitive - of construction of the sanitary discourses. They make it possible to observe the gradual emergence of sedentariness as a public problem imposing a political commitment and requiring the implication of the populations. Actors and experts consulted, the educational strategies used and the communication tools used, value with more and more insistence the empowerment of individuals through the dissemination and internalization of precepts and standards of practices demonstrating the new shape of disciplinarization of the bodies

Full textThe goal of this qualitative, descriptive, exploratory study is to explore road safety experts and adolescents perceptions of current public awareness campaigns and road safety prevention programs aimed at adolescents, in order to find ways to prevent car accidents. Green & Kreuter’s Precede/Proceed Planning Model (2005) is the frame of reference used. A focus discussion group composed of eight adolescents and semi-directed interviews with three road safety experts were conducted. The results show very few similarities between the perceptions of adolescents and those of road safety experts. However, both agree on vital aspects of road safety, such as risk-taking during adolescence, and the involvement of parents and school environments. Also, the road safety experts comments were very similar to each other. The results of this study are important for people responsible of prevention campaigns and people working with this clientele. It provides research avenues and action plans focused on the prevention of car accidents in order to decrease the number of car accidents involving young drivers.
