Abstract:
This study introduces the term sales bottleneck, defined as a stage in a total production or service delivery process that limits sales. After analyzing the suitability of traditional methods to find sales bottlenecks, the study proposes the bottleneck accounting model as a method to determine sales bottlenecks and calculate the effect of each of these bottlenecks on profit. Analytical verification shows that this method finds all sales bottlenecks and determines the exact effect on profit. Finally, the methods effectiveness is tested in practice by means of a case study performed within the Rabobank.

Abstract:
The presented article deals with the issue of solving bottlenecks in the logistics flow of a manufacturing company. The Tx Plant Simulation software tool is used to detect bottlenecks and deficiencies in the company’s production, logistics and transportation systems. Together with the use of simulation methods and lean manufacturing tools, losses in business processes are eliminated and consequently flow throughput is improved. In the TX Plant Simulation software environment, using Bottleneck analyzer, bottlenecks were defined on the created simulation model and a method of optimizing logistics flows was designed and tested by introducing the Kanban pull system. This resulted in an improvement and throughput of the entire logistics flow, a reduction in inter-operational stocks and an increase in the efficiency of the production system as a whole.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present an educational approach to elevating problem-solving and numeracy competencies of business undergraduates to meet workplace demand. The approach is grounded in the theory of constraints following the Decoding the Discipline model. The authors investigated a cognitive bottleneck involving problem modeling and an affective bottleneck concerning low self-efficacy of numeracy and designed specific interventions to address both bottlenecks simultaneously. The authors implemented the proposed approach in an introductory level analytics course in business operations. Design/methodology/approach The authors use an empirical study to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in addressing deficiency in numeracy and problem-solving skills. Cognitive and affective learning interventions were introduced in an undergraduate core course in analytics. The perceived effectiveness of the interventions was evaluated with the use of a survey at the end of the course. To further investigate the effectiveness of the proposed interventions beyond self-reporting, the impact of the interventions on actual learning was evaluated by comparing the exam scores between classes with and without the interventions. Findings Students who underwent the interventions successfully overcame both learning bottlenecks and indicated a positive change in attitude toward the analytics discipline as well as achieved higher exam scores in the analytics course. Research limitations/implications This study succeeds in strengthening the body of research in teaching and learning. The authors also offer a holistic treatment of cognitive and affective learning bottlenecks, and provide empirical evidence to support the effectiveness of the proposed approach in elevating numeracy and problem-solving competencies of business undergraduates. Practical implications The proposed approach is useful for business educators to improve business students’ quantitative modeling skill and attitude. Researchers can also extend the approach to other courses and settings to build up the body of research in learning and skill development. Educational policy makers may consider promoting promising approaches to improve students’ quantitative skill development. They can also set a high standard for higher education institutions to assess students’ numeracy and problem-solving competencies. Employers will find college graduates bring to their initial positions the high levels of numeracy and problem-solving skills demanded for knowledge work to sustain business growth and innovation. Social implications As students’ numeracy and problem-solving skills are raised, they will develop an aptitude for quantitative-oriented coursework that equips them with the set of quantitative information-processing skills needed to succeed in the twenty-first century society and global economy. Originality/value The proposed approach provides a goal-oriented three-step process to improve learning by overcoming learning bottlenecks as constraints of a learning process. The integral focus on identifying learning bottlenecks, creating learning interventions and assessing learning outcomes in the proposed approach is instrumental in introducing manageable interventions to address challenges in student learning thereby elevating students’ numeracy and problem-solving competencies.

Abstract:
Abstract Background & orientation: The existence of silo mentality has direct effect on the business model used by any ITC company. Its contribution slows service delivery whilst increasing customer’s despondency. However mitigation could help overcome barriers within divisions, improve customer experience and increase productivity. But when different units as components of a company fail to integrate, collaborate and work together to achieve a common objective goal, not only are performances affected but also operations at all levels. A business model canvas can help determine how a company intends to create value for customers whilst it makes money. Thus deliverance of an effective value proposition for efficient customer needs, can be affected through silos. Purpose: This study explore the effects of silo mentality within an ITC company (at organisational level) using the 9 elements of the business model canvas as framework. Methodology and research questions: As an exploratory study qualitative methods were used where in-depth interview questions looked at how silo mentality within the organisation affects the core business model elements and why. Twelve participants were selected from an enterprise business unit through a convenience sampling method. Content analysis helped with the development of core themes that looked at the how silos affect each element (process) and why (meaning). Findings: Silo mentality affects not only the individuals but team, products, value proposition, relations with partners, customers, stakeholders. Thus undermines internal capabilities and key resources. Absence of teamwork within the divisions leads to conflicts which delays achievements of common goals. Bottlenecks affect inter-divisional progress and relations, customer output and relations and compromise the quality of service. Implications: Silo mentality is a bottleneck that not only weakens firms’ capabilities and growth potential but destroys any value created by the firm.

Abstract:
The development of entrepreneurship in any country is inextricably linked with the participation of the state, without the intervention and support of which it is impossible to create a friendly institutional environment conducive to the development of entrepreneurial initiatives and entrepreneurial activity of the population. Small and medium entrepreneurship is the main driving force of the country's economic development throughout the world. The development strategy of the Russian Federation for 2018-2024 includes seven strategic priorities, some of which relate to the development of entrepreneurship and support for civic entrepreneurial initiative, the creation of a competitive economy in which government policy will be aimed at partnership with private business and reducing the direct participation of the state in the economy, and support of such socially important areas as health, education, social sphere, etc. In this connection, there is a need for s forms of the partnership of state and business structures in socially important sectors in order to attract small and medium-sized businesses. At the same time, a mechanism is needed to implement such a partnership, which should be based on a business model that will allow you to clearly understand the logical links and relationships. This paper describes the author's version of the configuration (template) of the business model of state franchising as a form of partnership between business and government. The basis is the canvas of the classic business models of Osterwalder-Pigneur and Ash Maurya. Special attention is paid to unfair (non-market) competitive advantage, which business receives. The described business model makes it possible to cover the partnership in general, concentrate on the main things, discover bottlenecks and interdependencies, contradictions and alternatives. Work within the framework of this business model gives a chance to significantly increase the efficiency of partners and to support socially significant areas of business.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce a method of the bottleneck detection for Emergency Department (ED) improvement using benchmarking and design of experiments (DOE) in simulation model. Design/methodology/approach – Four procedures of treatments are used to represent ED activities of the patient flow. Simulation modeling is applied as a cost-effective tool to analyze the ED operation. Benchmarking provides the achievable goal for the improvement. DOE speeds up the process of bottleneck search. Findings – It is identified that the long waiting time is accumulated by previous arrival patients waiting for treatment in the ED. Comparing the processing time of each treatment procedure with the benchmark reveals that increasing the treatment time mainly happens in treatment in progress and emergency room holding (ERH) procedures. It also indicates that the to be admitted time caused by the transfer delay is a common case. Research limitations/implications – The current research is conducted in the ED only. Activities in the ERH require a close cooperation of several medical teams to complete patients’ condition evaluations. The current model may be extended to the related medical units to improve the model detail. Practical implications – ED overcrowding is an increasingly significant public healthcare problem. Bottlenecks that affect ED overcrowding have to be detected to improve the patient flow. Originality/value – Integration of benchmarking and DOE in simulation modeling proposed in this research shows the promise in time-saving for bottleneck detection of ED operations.

Abstract The article describes a stochastic multiphase multichannel queuing system with an unlimited input capacity for the coordination of commercial business deals in an industrial enterprise. To build the model, it is proposed a conceptual map was used. The model allows experiments in the virtual world to optimize the parameters of a real process. As a result of experiments on the model, “bottlenecks” were identified in the process of negotiating deals. Recommendations are proposed to reduce the coordination time, which allows increasing the number of agreed business deals by 3 times.

Abstract:
The uneven workload distribution and working time utilisation create a bottleneck, leading to inefficient utilisation of capacity and increased costs. A bottleneck is a limiting and risk factor for any business entity. In the case of a distribution warehouse, the bottleneck limits its ability to meet the requirements for sending an order within the required time limit. Delays at any phase of a distribution process may result in non-compliance with customer requirements. In solving capacity problems and bottlenecks elimination, computer simulations and optimisation are often used. The article presents a basic simulation analysis of workload distribution and work times, useful for logistics companies, thus for the area of human and financial resources. In the article, the use of simulations in the ExtendSim9 program to eliminate the bottleneck is discussed. The bottleneck is solved by experiments on a simulation model when optimal workers assignment to individual workplaces of the warehouse is sought. The two final proposals for workers allocation, with the current and increased number of workers, are compared in workforce utilisation and system stability. The simulation method allows verification of the proposals' impacts in advance and practically with no financial costs.

Abstract:
Ambidextrous BPM has gained increasing interest from researchers and practitioners in the last years. It refers to the ability to use exploitative and explorative capabilities in BPM projects. In this paper, we investigate how the integration of exploitative and explorative ideas can leverage the analysis of business processes. The key contributions of this paper are a conceptual model and a method that integrate ambidextrous thinking in a complementary way. Both artefacts were evaluated by means of an expert opinion survey. We also present a case study at an organisation that has implemented our proposed method. We believe that ambidextrous analysis of business processes enables organisations tackling current operational bottlenecks while simultaneously exploring external opportunities for designing innovation in business processes.

Abstract:
One of the primary tools of the BPM (Business Process Management) paradigm is business process modeling. Business scenarios can be presented in the form of graphical models that can be easily understood by both Information Technology (IT) professionals and non-IT professionals – business analysts, software customers, department heads, top managers, and other stakeholders interested in business process improvement – using business process modeling. Small and large businesses can capture their operations in the form of graphic diagrams using business process modeling as the fundamental tool of the BPM approach, which can then be brainstormed by business analysts to uncover ways to optimize organizational workflows. Typically, business process improvement is accomplished by the automation of operations that have been recognized as “bottlenecks” following analysis. However, analyzing a business process model is only viable if it is clear and correct in terms of compliance with both the notation used and the actual business process it reflects. Therefore, this work examines the structural measures of the BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) business process model. It is assumed that business process models that violate business process modeling rules are neither understandable nor suitable for further work with them, which can also lead to various errors occurring during the stage of business process analysis, as well as the stage of its improvement and implementation of proposed changes, i.e., during development, testing, and maintenance of distinct software components, information system modules, and so on. The object of this work is a process of quality assessment of business process models created using the BPMN notation. The subject of this work is a software solution for the quality assessment of business process models. The goal of this work is the evaluation of a probability of errors in business process models to improve their quality.

Abstract:
New business opportunities based on grassland and green fodder present a promising avenue to realize the transition towards a circular and sustainable bio-based economy. Yet, such potential remains largely untapped and grass-based products and businesses remain a small niche in the global economy. To understand this phenomenon, this paper introduces and operationalizes a model to assess innovation readiness built around seven focus areas: technology, manufacturing, business, IPR, customer, team, and funding readiness with their own detailed “progress scales.” We employ necessary condition analysis (NCA) to identify limiting factors and bottlenecks in actual business situations. Our results reveal that lack of consumer awareness, infant conversion technologies and paucity of long-term investments that support emerging bio-based businesses are the most limiting conditions for the growth of emerging grass-based markets. The present study advances our understanding of the factors that limit complex innovations in grassland systems. Focusing on necessary conditions in a coordinated way between practitioners and policy makers by giving priority to fostering positive awareness of bioeconomy businesses, developing conversion technologies, and improving access to capital is a recommended approach to foster emerging grass-based innovations.

Monitoring speeds and identifying problem areas are essential for any public transport system because of the direct impact on its operating costs and on users’ travel time. This study generated a tool that identified, quantified, and displayed operational bottlenecks of bus operation in a city. The model was applied to the public transport system in Santiago, Chile, which faced a steady decline in operating speed. It was possible to identify locations with the most serious problems; this factor allowed transit authorities to focus their efforts on the areas that needed it the most. In addition, it was found that problems were concentrated in certain sectors of the city, including the central business district and intersections where the radial axis roads encountered the city’s central ring road. Once a problem is identified, it is essential to conduct site visits and combine the findings of this research with other sources of information to find the cause of the problem and propose solutions.

Abstract The main purpose of the paper is to identify the group of indicators that are most widely used in the manufacturing area worldwide, to identify the responsibility and authority for measuring and evaluating business performance, and to create an illustrative competency-based model for a performance management system within a business. The paper covers two areas that are important in the maintenance of sustainable business performance. The first area focuses on a performance management system and its key performance indicators as an important element in every performance management system within a business. The article also presents the theoretical background of the Z-MESOT method, which is applied to define the consistency of these indicators in practice. The second area is dedicated to defining a competency-based model and competences related to the measurement and assessment of performance, which have been extracted from other general competences. This paper presents findings from qualitative research to eliminate the bottlenecks of the Z-MESOT matrix that was transposed into a questionnaire. The questionnaire, as well as structured interviews, helped identify differences in responsibility attributes of the Z-MESOT matrix regarding the size of the researched businesses. The paper offers a list of competences related to the key performance indicators that can be used for following theoretical and practical research.

This article aims to discuss how social impact and social value creation (SVC) happen in a social enterprise. It attempts to understand the efficacy of social innovation through the lens of different stakeholders within a social enterprise with special reference to the beneficiary and the social entrepreneur. The article uses a case study research method within qualitative research with the emphasis on intrinsic and instrumental case research. An inductive, interpretivist approach has been used for drawing propositions. Through six propositions, the article understands the phenomenon of social innovation, the barriers and bottlenecks in the same which ultimately has to lead to higher levels of social impact and SVC resulting in a win-win-win situation for all the stakeholders. The biggest limitation is that it is difficult to generalise the phenomenon occurring in case of this case research, which may be exactly replicated in other organisational settings/situations/circumstances. The case study has been developed after having taken permission directly from the founder and co-founders of the enterprise. Due permission had been sought from the social entrepreneur(s) before going ahead with the writing and construction of this research article.

In the context of the university digital transformation, the development of digitalization processes, it is necessary to introduce a data management culture. In most cases, this approach does not allow to see a big picture, as well as to identify “bottlenecks”. There is a need to develop a unified data management strategy, which will assess the value of IT technology, and ensure the adoption of effective decisions. This article highlights the conceptual issues of data management strategies in higher education, using the example of the university. The place of the data processing strategy within the university’s information space is considered a map model for analyzing key issues for decision making. The basic principles of organizing a data strategy for the university are determined. There is also considered an approach to designing and implementing an information and analytical system on the Microsoft Power BI cloud-based business analysis platform, which integrates all disparate data from university’s corporate information systems and transactional data sources. The analysis of reports of key business processes of the university is carried out, in which the formulation of research questions is shown, and there have been given conclusions to these issues. Introduction of the information and analytical system in the contour of the university’s corporate information system will contribute to the early identification of bottlenecks in the organization of the educational system and prompt decision-making in a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the main business processes of the educational organization through building a data map and visualizing all statistical reports.

Abstract:
To improve the service quality of complaint handling service in a manufacturing company, it is key to analyze the business processes. Process mining is quite a useful approach to diagnose complaint handling service process problems, such as bottlenecks and deviations. However, the current business process analysis methodologies based on process mining mainly focus on operational process analysis and neglect other system level analysis. In this study, we introduce the method of Accimap from the discipline of accident analysis to analyze the diagnosis results of process mining. By creating a complaint handling service process management Accimap model, the process mining results analysis can be carried out across different system levels. A case study in a big manufacturing company in China is implemented to verify our approach. In the case study, 42 complaint handling process management factors are identified and the complaint handling process management Accimap model is created. The testing results by Rasmussen’s seven predictions in his risk management framework show that Accimap method presents a systematic approach to analyze the process diagnosis results based on process mining.

Purpose The framework of Six Sigma Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control was applied in this study, and various tools and techniques were used at different stages to implement lean measures to ensure quality. The purpose of this paper is to develop a decision-making framework that assesses key quality performance to ensure that practitioners improve quality and control by modeling and optimizing production processes. Design/methodology/approach A model of a quality performance index system was established. The weights of factors and sub-factors, which were estimated using an FAHP, were used as a reference for the decision maker under fuzzy uncertainly to make a decision, and thus, results present the bottlenecks in processes. Furthermore, any other factors that may affect the key process bottlenecks must be considered. The critical to quality characteristics were determined, and factor levels were set. The interaction between the factors was analyzed, their significance was studied using the Design of experiments and the parameters were predicted. Finally, quality improvement decisions were made through failure mode and effects analysis. Findings The implementation results of this research prove that the proposed model could successfully determine the key processes and focus on the improvement of critical quality factors under limited resources. Abstract:
Some major future global challenges are linked to more efficient use of water for irrigation to respond to the growing water scarcity coupled with the increasing food demand. Although irrigation advisory services (IASs) are considered effective instruments to increase water use efficiency in agriculture, their diffusion remains limited. This is due to several constraints mainly linked to their low accessibility and high costs. To overcome the bottlenecks associated with IASs’ adoption, this paper proposes a business model (BM) as a tool for scaling up IASs within a business perspective, with the aim of encouraging the diffusion of this technology while enhancing the associated environmental and social benefits. Drawn from the experience of the OPERA project, we structured the business model taking advantage of the opinion of relevant stakeholders and IASs’ potential users to identify specific limitations and understand their needs. It turned out that farmers are willing to adopt IASs but require that the service is easily accessible, with high-quality information that are delivered at an affordable cost. Indeed, here a BM with an innovative way to produce and deliver value is proposed. The value proposition is built upon key features namely, integration, customization, accessibility, and sustainability that reflect users’ needs and preferences. Our BM also provides a detailed revenues strategy that guarantees the financial sustainability of IASs. To design and represent our BM, the “Business Model Canvas ©” has been adopted. AbstractTackling the crisis, readjusting the economic model: Rising energy prices, historically high inflation rates and ongoing supply chain bottlenecks are challenging Germany’s long-standing industrial base. On top of that, entrepreneurs and the state alike are faced with new geopolitical tensions forcing them to re-evaluate existing (trade) relationships. In order to strengthen Germany’s attractiveness as an industrial location in the long term and to emerge from this crisis more resilient to economic and geopolitical changes, its economic model needs to be readjusted. In this article, we thus discuss key areas of action, including how to secure energy supply, how to diversify international relationships, as well as how to provide sustainable and targeted support to firms that does not prevent structural change.

This research provides an overview of the process and results of the development and implementation of the Port Activity Application. The aim of the application is to improve the coordination and information exchange mechanisms between the existing systems of ports and ships during piloting ordering process to ensure their effective interoperability, giving a better understanding of the impact of digitalization on the sustainability of seaports and maritime transport. To implement this concept, a system of step-by-step actions was developed, including determining the current situation, developing a business model and business logic for implementing an appropriate information and communication technology (ICT) solution, analysing the local government structure, analysing intermodal information exchange between stakeholders, developing and testing a new ICT tool. The ports of Rauma, Finland, and Gävle, Sweden, were used as pilot ports. As a result of the study, the main bottlenecks in the process of information exchange in ordering pilotage were identified. An improved business model and business logic, that allows the rational use of resources and reduces CO2 emission and the pressure on the environment, was developed. The testbed was conducted in an environment of real port operations. Currently, the open access source code is available for use for maritime cluster actors.

Queue is a condition where the number of service recipients is higher than the number ofservice providers. This condition can cause a buildup of service recipients, and eventually, bottlenecks will occur. It faced by all service organizations that focus on service to customers. No exception is a car wash business whose business processes focus on providing fast andquality car wash services. But unfortunately, many car wash businesses get complaints fromcustomers, especially related to the queue buildup and unclear queue information received bycustomers. Therefore this study aims to produce a mobile-based car wash queue application, which includes a dynamic priority scheduling algorithm that functions as a queue manager. To carry out these objectives, a research methodology that is sequential and iterative used, namely, the software development methodology using the Rapid Application Development(RAD) model. This model consists of four phases: planning needs, prototype development, system development, and finally, testing. The Application test is finished with two approaches, namely testing of application code, specifically the application of dynamic priority schedulingalgorithm and testing of the overall functional system. From the test results, it knows that thecar wash queue application managed to sort customer orders based on the specified priorityrules based on the distance and time of the law. While the results of testing the systemfunctionality show that the application successfully manages a variety of errors, both causedby system failures and due to human error.

Abstract:
The increasing awareness on environmental issues and their implications for society and economy, has led policymakers to rethink the legislative and financial measures supporting companies to innovate their business. As a result, companies are encouraged to integrate corporate sustainability (CS) into their value creation. Different from the past approaches, the current policy making process has been inspired by a multi-value creation system, aimed to deeply analyze the present situation, and identify the bottlenecks to design further steps to be taken. In this context, regional authorities cover a pivotal role in financing the pre-competitive phase of innovative and sustainable business models (SBMs). A survey was launched in the Emilia Romagna Region (ERR), analyzing the main factors contributing to maximizing CS. This paper investigates supply chain, welfare, environmental management as well as planning, control and communication strategy together with ecological footprints such as materials, energy, water, plastics, and waste ecological footprints. It gives a twofold contribution: first, it sets the stage for the construction of a theoretical model representing an SBM, and second, it gives a practical contribution by supporting the public administration decision-making in adopting a breakthrough roadmap facilitating the value transfer from industry to society.

Abstract:
This article explores the regime of consumer price controls instituted in Southern Rhodesia during World War II and continued in the post-war period up to 1949. The 'war effort' required the colony to change rapidly and tackle emerging shortages, bottlenecks, and general wartime disruptions. Southern Rhodesia responded to rising consumer prices and the spiralling cost of living by assembling price control officials, institutions, legislation and policies. Besides evaluating the immediate outcome of consumer price controls, the article also examines their socioeconomic impact. It argues that while the first few years saw some success in stabilising prices and curtailing price hikes, controls incentivised contravention and other unscrupulous practices as businesses sought to realise profits. Furthermore, controls sacrificed industrial competitiveness because businesses had little incentive to improve their production methods. On consumer price controls extended to Africans in this colonial society, the article argues that the measures were socially retrogressive because they slowed down the emergence of African business enterprises in rural areas while also stifling African wages in urban areas. Thus, while deliberately protecting white consumers, consumer price controls simultaneously enforced African under-consumption to maintain the settler colonial model.

Abstract:
Modern market requirements for transportation of cargo flows according to the «quality, speed, and cost» criteria were studied. It was found that multimodal routes have the lowest delivery time, high reliability, and minimum transit time, which provides a more accurate level of control of costs, traffic schedules, and transport safety. It was determined that the effectiveness of multimodal transportation schemes depends on a degree of realization of resource capabilities and management technologies of a multimodal transport operator (MTO). The functional features and the MTO classification were generalized, which makes it possible to generate the MTO business model as a responsible integrator of transport and logistic processes, rather than consider it only from the point of view of the organizer of mixed transportation schemes. The technology of the organizational transportation process was systematized, based on which a system of strategic goals and key performance indicators (KPI) was developed, which makes it possible to determine the «bottlenecks» according to the main business processes of a multimodal transportation operator. The modified multifactor DuPont model was proposed, which makes it possible to establish the priority of factor evaluation of more time-stable indicators based on determining the levers of the MTO resource efficiency with greater coverage of factors. The performed research can become the basis for further development of the multimodal cargo transportation system based on the development of the model for optimal management of the MTO business processes.

Abstract:
The explosion of COVID-19 infection hit the world in 2020, which prompted the Japanese government to declare a state of emergency and require society to refrain from going outdoors and promote working from home. Although there was a lot of confusion on the side of employees and businesses at the beginning of the introduction of remote work, it gradually took root, there were differences depending on the industry. The introduction of remote work has overturned the common sense of Japanese companies that used to require employees to come to the office to work, and has improved the level of business continuity planning (BCP) measures. This can be said to be the result of changing the BCP measures and strategies, which immediately eliminated the bottlenecks in the priority operations group. It is interesting to note that the external pressure has led to a reconsideration of measures and strategies that had been assumed to be sufficient. This note focuses on cases where measures and strategies that were not selected as earthquake countermeasures were selected as countermeasures to COVID-19 and consequently led to the strengthening of earthquake countermeasures. This fact could be applied to further discuss the relationship between countermeasures and unavailable resources and discuss the need for a shared risk assessment model for multi-stakeholder BCP development such as Area Business Continuity Management (BCM) [1].

Abstract:
Background: Given several bottlenecks in Brazil in distribution logistics, mainly in transport and warehouse activities, some new forms of collective action have appeared. The Condominiums of Rural Warehouses was conceived of to overcome these bottlenecks and provide better income and competitiveness to small producers in agribusiness. This article aims to analyse aspects of collective action with the focus of Rural Condominiums in the context of Brazilian agribusiness. Methods: We conducted exploratory, descriptive and qualitative research under the Theory of Logic of Collective Action lens for this purpose. Besides conducting a literature review, we conducted a semi-structured interview with the managers of the Rural Warehouse Condominiums. We analysed the data through a Categorial Content Analysis. Results: The main results show an approximation of the rural model of the Condominiums of Rural Warehouses with the Theory of Logic of Collective Action, mainly for small producers. Conclusions: We highlight the feasibility of the warehouse structure collectively, as it strengthens and provides greater efficiency to rural business and producers, inserts and integrates the industry into a competitive market environment, provides economic and social benefits, leads to cost reduction, and increased profit. The economic, social and logistical determinants show the product’s commercialisation, logistical gains, and the producers’ association regarding the development and growth of rural collective action. Abstract:
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on fresh food e-commerce has led to a loss of consumers, and “e-commerce temperature” is seen as an important means of alleviating consumer dissatisfaction and retaining consumers. To explore the connotation and effect of it, and to break through possible “comfort” bottlenecks, we used online reviews of the Jingdong fresh food platform as research data, mined the characteristics of “e-commerce temperature” with the help of the LDA topic model, and evaluated the mechanism of “e-commerce temperature” on consumer satisfaction during the pandemic by using quasi-natural experiments and Word2vec-based sentiment analysis. The results show that “e-commerce temperature” has five connotations of logistics commitment, humanized delivery, health pledge, pandemic perseverance, and consumer care, which can effectively mitigate the loss of consumer satisfaction. Interestingly, we found that the “e-commerce temperature” has a limited “comfort” effect. Additionally, further social network analysis shows that the bottleneck is mainly due to the consumers’ psychological gaps when comparing the usual e-commerce services, and cretailers can repair them through financial compensation and spiritual solace. The study explores e-commerce service quality at different pandemic stages with the help of text mining techniques, enriches the theory of e-commerce research, and alleviates the Hawthorne bias in traditional empirical studies. This study also provides a reference for e-retailers to improve service quality and respond to emergencies in a changing post-pandemic era.

Abstract:
The article seeks to provide a robust framework to ensure effective management of innovative business processes at agricultural companies in rural areas. Based on different conceptual interpretations of the "innovation" and "business processes" terms, this study suggests to consider the innovative business processes as a goal-oriented set of operations (activities) performed sequentially or simultaneously (transforming inputs into outputs) that shapes a desired ultimate result with a focus to its application and R&D commercialization. Presenting innovation-based activities of rural agricultural companies in a business process format will facilitate their better adaptability to rapidly changing external environment, enable to assess the effectiveness of individual innovations as well as to detect the bottlenecks and errors and eliminate or mitigate them at the initial stage of innovation development. From the perspective of a process-based approach, the proposed model of managing innovative business processes of agricultural enterprises in rural areas provides an opportunity to: 1) benefit from effective use of innovative technology to achieve strategic goals of rural agricultural enterprises; 2) harmonize stakeholder interests of all rural agribusinesses and accumulate resources for their implementation) to provide rationale for agribusiness activities in rural areas in terms of ensuring their competitiveness; 4) to boost the profitability of rural agribusinesses and generate unused resources. The identification of such common elements contributes to better understanding of the logic of a systemic framework to manage innovative technology process based on business process compositional modeling. The findings demonstrate that step-by-step algorithm based on the proposed model will enable to carry out a sound assessment of the innovation potential of agricultural companies, build their sustainable competitive advantages along with contributing to creating a favourable environment to implement innovative development strategy in the agriculture industry and promote the application of technological innovations in manufacturing and management.

Abstract:
The gradual shift towards cleaner and green energy sources requires the application of electric vehicles (EVs) as the mainstream transportation platform. The application of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) shows promise in optimizing the power demand, shaping the load variation, and increasing the sustainability of smart grids. However, no comprehensive paper has been compiled regarding the of operation of V2G and types, current ratings and types of EV in sells market, policies relevant to V2G and business model, and the implementation difficulties and current procedures used to cope with problems. This work better represents the current challenges and prospects in V2G implementation worldwide and highlights the research gap across the V2G domain. The research starts with the opportunities of V2G and required policies and business models adopted in recent years, followed by an overview of the V2G technology; then, the challenges associated with V2G on the power grid and vehicle batteries; and finally, their possible solutions. This investigation highlighted a few significant challenges, which involve a lack of a concrete V2G business model, lack of stakeholders and government incentives, the excessive burden on EV batteries during V2G, the deficiency of proper bidirectional battery charger units and standards and test beds, the injection of harmonics voltage and current to the power grid, and the possibility of uneconomical and unscheduled V2G practices. Recent research and international agency reports are revised to provide possible solutions to these bottlenecks and, in places, the requirements for additional research. The promise of V2G could be colossal, but the scheme first requires tremendous collaboration, funding, and technology maturation.

Abstract:
The ready-mix concrete supply chain is highly disruptive due to its product perishability and Just-in-Time (JIT) production style. A lack of technology makes the ready-mix concrete (RMC) industry suffer from frequent production failures, ultimately causing high customer dissatisfaction and loss of revenues. In this paper, we propose the first-ever digital twin (DT) system in the RMC industry that can serve as a decision support tool to manage production risk efficiently and effectively via predictive maintenance. This study focuses on the feasibility of digital twins for the RMC industry in three main areas holistically: (1) the technical feasibility of the digital twin system for ready-mix concrete plant production risk management; (2) the business value of the proposed product to the construction industry; (3) the challenges of implementation in the real-world RMC industry. The proposed digital twin system consists of three main phases: (1) an IoT system to get the real-time production cycle times; (2) a digital twin operational working model with descriptive analytics; (3) an advanced analytical dashboard with predictive analytics to make predictive maintenance decisions. Our proposed digital twin solution can provide efficient and interpretable predictive maintenance insights in real time based on anomaly detection, production bottleneck identification, process disruption forecast and cycle time analysis. Finally, this study emphasizes that state-of-the-art solutions such as digital twins can effectively manage the production risks of ready-mix concrete plants by automatically detecting and predicting the bottlenecks without waiting until a production failure happens to react.

Abstract:
<p>Process mining is mainly focused on process discovery from control perspective. It is further applied to mine the other perspectives such as time, data, and resources by replaying the events in event logs over the initial process model. When process mining is extended far beyond discovering the control-flow models to capture additional perspectives; roles, bottlenecks, amounts of time passed, guards, and routing probabilities in the process can be identified. This is a such extensions are considered under the topic of multi-perspective process mining, which makes the discovered process model more understandable. In this study, a framework for applying multi-perspective process mining and creating a Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) process model as the output is introduced. The framework, which uses a recently developed application programming interface (API) for storing the BPMN Data Model which keeps what is produced from each perspective as an asset into a private blockchain in a secure and immutable way, has been developed as a plugin to the ProM tool. In doing so, it integrates a number of techniques for multi-perspective process mining in literature, for the perspectives of control-flow, data, and resource; and represents a holistic process model by combining the outputs of these in the BPMN Data Model. In this article, we explain technical details of the framework and also demonstrate its usage over a case in medical domain.</p>

Abstract:
In light of the recent pandemic, several COVID-19 vaccines were developed, tested and approved in a very short time, a process that otherwise takes many years. Above all, these efforts have also unmistakably revealed the capacity limits and potential for improvement in vaccine production. This review aims to emphasize recent approaches for the targeted rapid adaptation and production of vaccines from an interdisciplinary, multifaceted perspective. Using research from the literature, stakeholder analysis and a value proposition canvas, we reviewed technological innovations on the pharmacological level, formulation, validation and resilient vaccine production to supply bottlenecks and logistic networks. We identified four main drivers to accelerate the vaccine product life cycle: computerized candidate screening, modular production, digitized quality management and a resilient business model with corresponding transparent supply chains. In summary, the results presented here can serve as a guide and implementation tool for flexible, scalable vaccine production to swiftly respond to pandemic situations in the future.

Abstract:
An increasing number of manufacturing organizations are placing direct emphasis on operations improvement as a means of achieving competitive success. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), however, generally lack the resources in capital, time and expertise to implement business process re-engineering (BPR), as has been advocated by a number of authors. This paper presents a comparative analysis of continuous improvement (CI) versus BPR approaches to operational change. Change implies risk, and SMEs naturally require a means for establishing levels of uncertainty and net return. Equally, the performance measures adopted by these two (respectively, bottom-up and top-down) approaches differ significantly and normally defy direct comparison. A dynamic systems simulation is developed from a case study within the plastics industry and is used to evaluate the implementation of either varying levels of improvement or natural processes in the case of BPR. Although it is an industry-specific model, the approach raises several implications. Of specific interest is the trade-off between performance improvement and cost, time frame and risk. Attention is also focused on evaluation of the threshold at which the two philosophies overlap and the point at which companies may make the transition between the two philosophies. The paper goes on to evaluate the decrease in the return of investment (ROI), as improvements impinge on other stages within the process, creating up- and downstream bottlenecks. It also evaluates the level of a single ‘natural process’, as a means of costing BPR implementation. The paper concludes with the definition of ROI curves, which are intended to inform SMEs in the selection of appropriate improvement strategies.

In modern business conditions there is an urgent need to apply innovative approaches to the implementation of a holistic budgeting system, which will contribute to the efficient use of financial resources through the formation of an individual budgeting model. Despite in-depth scientific research of the budgeting system at the enterprise, the issues related to the choice of the model of its implementation are insufficiently substantiated. It is necessary: to clarify the list of system-forming elements; to harmonize the strategic objectives of the enterprise and operational objectives related to the implementation of the budgeting model; to determine the specific conditions of the enterprise in the preparation of budgets. The purpose of the article is to assess the advantages and disadvantages of existing budgeting models at the modern enterprises, the formation of an individual budgeting model and the characteristics of its system-forming elements based on the use of decomposition analysis. The expediency of individualization of the budget model was proved taking into account such factors as the organizational structure of the enterprise, type and branch of economic activity, management requirements for the composition and structure of information reflected in budgets. Based on the application of decomposition analysis, the system-forming elements of the individual budgeting model (purpose, tasks, functions, principles, subject, object, subject, result, process) were specified. The restrictions for such model functioning were determined. The positive effect of the individual budgeting model implementation at the enterprise will be: the effective realization of its strategic financial potential; the identification of “bottlenecks” in the organizational structure of the enterprise, including among the centers of financial responsibility; the improving information interaction between individual structural units; the strengthening the system of control over the results of the enterprise activity.

Abstract:
The contemporary Nepali theatre has stood at the crossroads at various junctures in time. Theatre institutions have frequently struggled for survival, primarily due to the inflating financial pressures and myopic strategic focus. For several of them, it has consequentially led them to complete shutdown. A gradually growing audience base hasn't been able to fully assure sustenance to the industry stakeholders. With such impending uncertainty hovering over the industry, theatre companies in Nepal are challenged to profitably sustain in the burgeoning entertainment industry. Sensing the imminent necessities, this paper introduces an interdisciplinary intervention by providing proven roadmaps for contemporary theatre players in Nepal. All of these strategies are derived and tailored from the domains of business and marketing. More specifically, the crux is fixated around the marketing mix model, devised by Neil Borden in the 1950s. Extracting pivotal arguments and findings from a variety of researches and studies conducted all around the world, the paper in hand attempts to synchronize conceptual underpinnings of the theories with pragmatic contexts of modern-day Nepali theatre. And before providing potential solutions, the author has also peeked into the existing economic landscape of contemporary Nepali theatre in order to identify the business related bottlenecks of the industry.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to compare the prognostic and visualisation capabilities of all the three simulation paradigms to identify their suitability and rigor in eliminating weaknesses and bottlenecks in a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) project. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses an light-emitting diode (LED) factory as a business case to show the differences and advantages of using three different simulation techniques to solve a manufacturing problem. Findings Even though this is only one business case that shows how system dynamics (SD) can be effective in a Six Sigma manufacturing project, more examples are needed to validate this hypothesis within Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing fields. Even though, discrete-events (DE) and agent-based (AB) models are both equally well suited to develop the manufacturing processes and the choice of what to use may be arbitrarily dependent on the available software or the preference of the modeller, hybrid models seem to become extremely powerful. Therefore, more hybrid models need to be constructed within LSS (especially when a flowchart and a SIPOC ((Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs and Customers) table are combined to develop a hybrid model) to achieve the most accurate results with accurate representation of reality. Originality/value There are three commonly used simulation techniques, DE, AB and SD, but choosing the right simulation methodology has often been a challenge.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to focus on time-constrained interactions involving industry and public actors, mainly universities, conducting research. This kind of interaction has become increasingly important to develop new pharmaceuticals, especially antibiotics. The proposed theoretical frame relies on industrial marketing and purchasing’s interactive perspective on inter-organizational relationships and especially the activities, resource, actors model, combined with key concepts on temporary organizing and project management. This study identifies the temporality and time constraints imposed by this project on public–private interactions, specific coordination tools used to create such temporality and time constraints and their consequences, including positive and negative effects for the interacting parties. Design/methodology/approach The study builds on a single in-depth qualitative case study of a major antibiotics R&D collaboration project called ENABLE. Findings For negative consequences, this model includes the need for constantly rebuilding trust due to fast turnover of actors, difficulties in combining resources as efficiently as possible, resource constraints, bottlenecks and neglect of some activities, such as publishing, which are normally pivotal for universities. Despite these problematic consequences of temporality, resources are rapidly made available and new competencies learned quickly. Another positive effect is the possibility to achieve complex adaptations of resources and activities even in short time frames. Importantly, projects can act as a springboard for the parties to continue collaboration and in the long term develop a continuous business relationship. Originality/value Based on the findings the authors develop a model of time-constrained inter-organizational interaction between public and private organizations.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to present a framework that could be used to achieve the objective of sustainable rural development in a community which is characterized by high numbers of smallholders, landless peasants, and unskilled or semi-skilled labor ultimately leading to low productivity and high rates of poverty. The study presents a design inspired by “Saemaul Undong” (New Village Movement) of South Korea. The proposed model is based on proposing a four-tier approach for the working of the village-level cooperatives which will be self-reliant through a network connection to the national and international markets. Existing studies and surveys in Punjab province of Pakistan have established that rural areas are often lacking essential facilities that affect the abilities of these areas to retain skilled manpower thus leading to resource drain and negatively impacting the agricultural productivity. The proposed Village-City Model, “VCM,” was designed to strengthen the local infrastructure and built interest-based cooperatives to develop an environment which can sustain the benefits of higher productivity and translate these into better livelihoods. It is proposed that farmer-centered cooperatives with appropriate institutional arrangements could result in developing village-based cities where skilled manpower can exert to in better resource use efficiency, access to market coupled with rural finance schemes to enhance resource base and access to technology. The cooperatives experience is considered as a bitter experience in Pakistan. However, the analysis of failures of cooperatives in Pakistan revealed many bottlenecks which have been addressed through indigenization of Saemaul Undong.

Abstract:
The article discusses the issues of decentralization and dynamic redistribution of roles in cyber-physical systems (CPS) designed for working in changing environments and especially open spaces, where there are increased risks of module failures and communication loss. In particular, decentralized methods for controlling the CPS behavior and ensuring the redundancy of their components and connections are investigated. A number of requirements for such systems are identified and it is noted what limitations in existing approaches impede the implementation of systems that satisfy these requirements at the physical, network and application layers. For different layers, behavior models are proposed, which provide autonomous role distribution between components. This made it possible to synthesize a structural-parametric model of an autonomous mobile CPS, focused on functioning in open areas and solving applied problems performed through the coordinated interaction of groups of mobile agents. The model takes into account aspects of system stability and its response to destructive influences. The advantages of the proposed models include task decentralization, absence of central, critical nodes and bottlenecks, no line of sight requirements or small distance between devices, ability to work in unexplored environments. The solutions can be applied primarily in the field of business and are suitable for use in industrial plants equipped with mobile robotic devices with cameras, for example, for agricultural tasks, or territorial exploration. The proposed approach makes possible to study the terrain more accurately, including unexplored areas with limited accessibility to humans. Also, the results obtained can be applied during rescue operations.

Abstract:
The possibilities of online sales strategy analysis based on unit-economy metrics (Unit Economics is a new economic modeling method used to determine the effectiveness of a digital business model by assessing the profitability of a product unit or a single customer), as well as on the theory of restrictions, have been shown. The peculiarities of settings of problems on monitoring the process of attracting customers to the electronic resource of a company, and their support up to conclusion of commercial transaction (product sale) have been revealed. A scenarios matrix for promoting information about a product, a brand, or a service using various communication channels has been compiled.Among various strategies of a sales funnel management the following three main strategies have been highlighted: the strategy of a proportional expansion (when increasing a traffic at the entrance of a funnel, which gives a large conversion, the funnel expands at all next stages, and the output result is increased); the strategy of stretching (increasing of a conversion at each level results in the output increasing), and the strategy of a key level (this strategy demands to determine the level of the funnel, which limits the entire system, and to apply efforts to improve conversion indicators at this special level). A methodology for constructing and analyzing the product funnel using unit-economy metrics has been adduced. The peculiarities of development of strategies for sales funnel using the critical-chain method (Critical Chain Management, CPM) and method of Theory of Constraints (TOC) have been highlighted, when the company’s results depend on the interacting elements of the system, that create the constraints. A method of searching bottlenecks in the sales funnel has been proposed, which consists in a consistent assessment of the impact on the profits of each of its five basic metrics, for each of which there are special development tools, allowing one to find points of rapid profit growth. Scenario analysis of sales funnel using unit metrics has been сarried out.

Abstract:
Efficient modeling of the artificial intelligence tools has become a necessity in order to cut down the development and maintenance cost associated with building application systems in the business, industrial and agriculture sectors that are frequently amendable to sudden unexpected environmental and economic conditions changes. This can be accomplished through developing an efficient modeling language which exploits the beneficial features of the emerging object-oriented technology. This research is aimed at reviewing the recent scientific aspects of the research concerning conceptual modeling of fuzzy knowledge-based system, which exhibits a large extent of applicability in last few decades due to its capability to deal with vagueness, uncertainty and subjectivity, those are inherent in real world problems. The most recent researches and applications of fuzzy expert system are surveyed. The existing knowledge modeling techniques are reviewed and the prominent ones are pinpointed. This paper is intended to identify the main and common bottlenecks of the existing knowledge modeling tools to overcome it in developing a reliable conceptual model of fuzzy expert system.&nbsp;
