Due to the assumptions of companies steady growth, and taking into account the limited amount of available resources, we should mention the assumptions of sustainable development. It promotes activities, that seek to meet the needs of our generation, not crossed the needs of future generations. Abstract:
Purpose – The failure to innovate has been recognized as one of the prime causes of business failure. In addition to this, the purpose of this paper is to explore whether it is the failure to act or inertia that can also explain the inability of family businesses to move forward. Design/methodology/approach – This research documented the experiences of five family businesses in the Philippines that were unable to sustain their business operations. Only five families were identified since it was difficult to trace the business owners of businesses that failed, and once identified, not all were willing to discuss the reason for their business failure. Findings – The cases showed that business decline actually results from the failure of family members to address the challenges brought about the change in the different life cycle dimensions. In hindsight, arresting a downward trend necessitates varied strategic approaches. While some family members may felt incapable of introducing innovation in their business, the failure to act, by itself, was a guarantee of business failure. Research limitations/implications – The research was limited to five family businesses in the Philippines. It is possible that there may be many other reasons for family business failure based on the experiences of other families. Unfortunately, many business families in the Philippines are tight-lipped about failure, even if there are lessons to be learned. Practical implications – This paper brings attention to the need of family business owners to be more proactive in meeting the changing needs of their family business. Formula that worked before may not be appropriate at a different time. Originality/value – Research has shown that there are many reasons for family business failure. This paper shows the importance of transcending the feeling of inertia so that family members can be more proactive in meeting the challenges that they are bound to face as their families, their products, their businesses, and the industries they are in, move from one stage of the life cycle to another.

Abstract:
Company competitiveness is one of the favorite fields of study of scientists, managers and analysts alike. The progress in terms of theory and methodology is undeniable, yet this is hardly the case with the practical application of the approaches and methodology for evaluation of the competitiveness of business organizations which have been proposed in the theory. The purpose of this article is to propose an approach for evaluation and analysis of the competitiveness of business organizations. The proposition is that the presented approach can be used by practitioners. The proposed approach is based on evaluating companies’ competitiveness, benchmarking (against competitors and previous years) and identifying reserves. The value of the competitiveness indicator shows not only the business results of the business organization, but also its place among its other market competitors. At the same time this value allows individual business organizations to assess their ability to benefit from the current impact of the factors of the environment. It also shows the extent to which the company management has chosen the appropriate strategy for functioning and development.

Тhis article discusses the main aspects and problems of the competitiveness of the Russian Federation in the international arena. In the context of the global crisis phenomena, the problem of the formation of sustainable competitiveness has acquired particular relevance due to the increase in the variability of the external environment. In the context of the intensification of the struggle for each country, the task of maintaining and improving its own competitiveness comes to the fore. Its most important manifestations are the transnationalization of entrepreneurial activities of firms and the rapid development of information technologies, which largely determine the competitiveness of the subjects of the world economy. For the current period, the main problems of Russia's competitiveness are: a low level of quality of state institutions, indicators of investment in traditional and technological infrastructure, in education and continuous professional development of the workforce (it is specialists with technical education that the economy needs), indicators of the state of infrastructure (the degree of compliance of market infrastructure with business needs, the development of basic, technological, scientific, information and social infrastructure), therefore, the relevance of the study is justified by Russia's low positions as a competitive state on the world stage, while having high economic, political and resource potential, as well as the main center of gravity of foreign investment. One of the proposed options is to increase the level of competitiveness. This model will allow us to achieve the main goal of the study - to improve Russia's competitiveness in the international market.

Providing basic theoretical concepts and an explanation of creation and organisation of clusters in business, I believe that I come closer to the aim of judging about when and how to use the most suitable and necessary manners for practical application of clusters for increase of competitiveness. Presentation of basic concepts below shall cover problems which are related to various situations irrespective to the level of enterprises. In concordance with the aims and theme, this work presents creative thinking and scientific concepts, studies, projects and programs related to the subject of competitiveness development and clustering in business. My aim at this work has been to make a theoretical-practical review of the project of competitiveness and clustering as competitive advantage in nowadays’ businesses in Kosovo, in countries of the region and in the world. Theories and concepts of promotion of clusters have up to date been based mainly on the experience of industrialised countries which may not find application in the countries in transition as Kosovo is. But, for this reason a thorough review is needed in order to determine if the levels of cooperation between enterprises in the countries in transition are sufficient in order to enable cluster development, or if a change is required in a country in transition in defining clusters, and as a result any change into the strategy of the assistance with the purpose of improvement of economic condition and the business situation in these countries, and in particular in Kosovo. Many of the enterprises have similar problems with each other which are related to competitiveness of their products, finding markets, costs of sources, quality and standards as per market demand etc. If we say that businesses have common problems, then, it may be that there is room for them to cooperate with each other into solving similar problems through cluster creation.

Abstract:
The necessity to contribute to a high competitiveness level of business structures in the increasingly competitive environment, globalization, fusion of labor markets and assets and to develop the digital economy requires an adequate transformation of the competitiveness management system of business structures. The purpose of this article is to suggest a methodical approach to assessing the competitiveness level of business structures in the digital economy. The approach is supposed to allow assessing the competitiveness level of IT business firms as suppliers of IT solutions to final customers using the methods of the hierarchy analysis, assessing the development level and the cluster analysis. The article analyzes the state and trends of developing business structures in the field of IT technologies from the point of view of their competitiveness. The paper proposes the economic and mathematical tools, which allow to justify the informational space of business structure competitiveness indices, calculate the importance of variables and weight coefficients, justify the choice of the method of convolution and developing aggregates, scaling the integral index of business structure competitiveness level in the digital economy. While implementing the proposed methodical approach to competitiveness data indicators of IT business structures the authors have identified companies with the highest competitiveness level and an IT company with the medium competitiveness level and a low market share, which shows the possibility of strengthening the market position of the company in a medium term. The developed methodical approach can be considered as an informational and methodical element of the competitiveness management system of IT business structures.

Abstract:
PurposeThe analysis of the interconnectedness between resources and capabilities, and the way businesses use them as competitive weapons is a central element of the strategic management literature. Finding the appropriate configuration of competitive pillars is particularly relevant for resource-constrained small businesses. Drawing on the resource-based view and the configuration theory, this study evaluates the effect of both competitiveness and the configuration of the competitiveness system on performance.Design/methodology/approachAn index methodology based on the configuration theory was used to compute the competitiveness index on a unique sample of 625 Hungarian small- and medium-sized firms. The study hypotheses were tested via regression analysis.FindingsResults show that the impact of competitiveness-enhancing strategies is conditional on the configuration of the system of competencies. Low-competitive businesses benefit more from investments in the weakest competitive pillar, while strategies oriented to improve more than one competitive pillar yield higher competitiveness improvements among high-competitive businesses. Our findings also indicate that competitiveness positively impacts performance, and that the exploitation of competitive strengths leads to superior results among high-competitive businesses.Originality/valueBy employing an index methodology, our analysis contributes to unveil how competitiveness impact business performance. The proposed analysis has value for scholars and strategy makers by showing how the configuration of the business' competitive system—in terms of competitive strengths and weaknesses—conditions the generally positive impact of competitiveness enhancing actions linked to the acquisition or development of resources and capabilities.

Abstract:
The food sector is a sector with great potential to be developed, especially in the Bekasi Regency area in Indonesia. Tight business competition and limited resources have forced entrepreneurs to reconsider production processes, one of which is by implementing Supply Chain Management (SCM). With MSC analysis, it is expected that business processes can be more responsive, so that they can respond quickly, effectively, and efficiently to all forms of changes in the market and further increase business competitiveness. The study involved 87 SME entrepreneurs in the food sector who were randomly obtained from several developing SME communities in Bekasi Regency, West Java and 5 experts related to the food industry. Research variables include; Supply Chain Management (SCM), Business Performance and Business Competitiveness. The results showed that in creating a business competitiveness, entrepreneurs need to improve the SCM system. Abstract:
Countries have been shown to be competitive in specific industries. This paper contends that this industrial specialization can be understood in terms of an affinity between national `models of capitalism' and the characteristics of industrial task environments. Put differently, industry-specific competitiveness is conceived to arise out of a fit between patterns of national business systems and patterns of industrial task environments. Specifically, the paper will propose a relationship between the communitarian or individualistic nature of national business systems and the organization-specificity of knowledge in an industry. More communitarian business systems are thought to enjoy a competitive advantage in industries with a high organization-specificity of knowledge, i.e. in industries that rely more on the long-term accumulation of organization-specific knowledge within tightly-knit corporate communities. More individualistic business systems, on the other hand, are thought to enjoy a competitive advantage in industries with a low organization-specificity of knowledge, i.e. in industries that thrive more on the speedy dissemination or reallocation of company-unspecific knowledge through a constant reconfiguration of social relationships. The paper will offer some illustrations of these proposed relationships in terms of the competitive profiles of the United States, Japan, Germany and Britain.
