Abstract:
This research is motivated by the rapid development of online media. Radio strives for its broadcasts to continue to be of interest to listeners. The aim of the research is to see El-Dity radio's efforts to improve broadcast quality in the face of mass media competition. The research method is qualitative with data collection of observations, interviews, and documentation. Observations were made at the El-Dity radio studio, while the interview informants were the director and broadcaster of the bulletin program, the person in charge of reporting, and the broadcasters of El-Dity radio. The results of the study found that El-Dity radio had tried to improve the quality of bulletin broadcasts in order to face mass media competition, by selecting news that was interesting, broadcast worthy, up to date, and packaged in an attractive manner. Broadcasters try to present the news clearly, and another thing that El-Dity radio does to improve the quality of its bulletin broadcasts is to divide its broadcast segmentation with various types of regional, national and international news.

Abstract:
The 1960s witnessed the emergence of television as a global medium. One way of demonstrating the powers and possibilities of television was the production and airing of transnational broadcast events. In order to produce these, national broadcast organizations had to engage in joint production of such events. The article examines two such events: Gagarin’s return to Moscow after orbiting the earth in April 1961 and the more well-known ‘Our World’ broadcast 6 years later. At the time of their production, these broadcasts were seen as crucial moments in television history, as prototypes of what could be expected of television in the future. They also relied on extensive cooperation between broadcast organizations in socialist and Western countries, organizations that to a large extent shared the same production values but also had to negotiate competing visions of the geography of modern communications networks. The broadcasts discussed in this article thus provide the opportunity to reflect upon the shaping of television history and global media memories. Based on case studies of the planning and production of the broadcasts, the article argues that global power relations have shaped the remembered history of television and therefore must be part of our understanding of it.

Abstract:
The role of media literacy is significantly needed to ward off the harmful effects of the media, especially television. Ideally, media literacy skills should be possessed by all people to avoid numerous harmful effects of television. The Indonesian broadcasting commission (KPI) as the broadcast regulator in Indonesia has the task of monitoring broadcast content and also educating the public to be media literate. In conducting its duties, it involves the community to monitor broadcasts by forming volunteers, known as broadcast monitors. This study uses a quantitative approach to examine accessibility, analysis, evaluation, and broadcast monitoring communication in supporting broadcast regulator performance. The research object is broadcast monitors supervised by the Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) of West Java Province in 2018. The monitors consist of five batches from five regions in West Java, namely Sumedang, Subang, Karawang, Bogor, and Bandung. Based on the research results, it shows that the media literacy capability of broadcast monitors is high, both in terms of the ability to access the media, analyze television programs and evaluate them, and even communicate the results of their monitoring to KPID West Java. The high level of media literacy has decent implications for the high participation of broadcast monitors to make complaints and the frequent findings of violations related to broadcast contents. Abstract:
This article analyses the possibility offered by the Internet to select radio content to build customized radios. Each internet user could select radio content, replacing the traditional radio stations that have always broadcasted. Previous results from our investigations are presented to allow us to compare the still-existing traditional radio to some of the offers on the Internet. Such a comparison will allow us to determine two different ways of listening to the radio on the Internet: the usual one, which allows the coexistence of listening and any parallel social practice (work, driving, etc.), and another one, appropriate to the internet, that adds visual attention to hearing. It is unavoidable to consider this as a loss compared to the visual independence that radio has always allowed.

The host broadcaster is a peculiar, temporary but complex media institution which takes its most developed form in the case of the Olympic Games. The Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation (SOBO) was the host broadcaster for the Sydney Olympics, providing vision for world television networks. Its political economy is examined from the point of view of the changing dynamics of television technologies and the Olympic Movement's assignment of intellectual property, including broadcast rights. The concept of a host broadcaster is shown to be a product of a particular moment in television history and in this respect it is compared to other hosting functions that the media provide for such an event.

Abstract:
The sustainability of industrial business depends on the ability of organizations to manage the needs and desires of consumers so that the products produced become part of consumer life. The radio broadcast industry in the era of digital technology is threatened no longer able to meet the needs of its listeners because social media has changed the behavior of audiences in consuming radio media. on that basis the radio broadcast industry must adapt to managing radio broadcasts by synergizing the behavior of the use of digital media with radio characters that are personal to the audience so that the radio broadcast industry continues to survive. The purpose of this study was to determine the management of social media and identify the added value it generates to maintain the business continuity of radio broadcast programs, especially Iradio 89.6 FM. The related concept is digital media management, product added value for business continuity. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach with the support of data triangulation so that the analysis can meet the validity aspects of the data. The results showed that the management was carried out with a strategy to build emotional bounding audiences through social media by synergizing digital technology with broadcast radio-based programming content. This helps the business continuity of IRadio 89.6 FM significantly. The existence of digital media for the radio industry is as a complement rather than as a competitor and digital media makes radio easier to access from various areas

Abstract The broadcaster, who uses the possibility of functioning in the broadcasting media space as a social broadcaster, ensures not only independence from power centres, political parties and commercial entities, but also full control over the broadcast content. He consciously directs ithe message to a specific group of recipients, often a niche group, providing content that commercial and public stations avoid, considering it to be unattractive. The type of programmes broadcast is strictly defined by the role it has to fulfil, the requirements set by the legislator for social broadcasters and the possibilities resulting from having such status. This has a significant impact on the place it occupies in the media radio market.

Drawing upon data collected during the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s 2011 Hockey Day in Canada broadcast, this paper examines how users of Twitter variously reproduced or contested this mediated television program. Three emergent themes from these data are discussed: the sociocultural importance of hockey to Canadians; the corporate sponsorship of Hockey Day in Canada; and the role of controversial commentator Don Cherry on the Canadian public broadcaster. These data suggest that new media can be a site for collective discussion on important sociopolitical issues, a conclusion that is discussed with reference to Scherer and Whitson’s (2009) argument that access to hockey broadcasts is a component of Canadian cultural citizenship; and Jenkins’ (2006a; 2006b) research on access to and participation in new media cultures.

Abstract:
Purpose of the study: The research became necessary to explore the watchdog role of broadcast media in Nigeria. The study was conducted for the purpose of understanding how broadcast media interpret the watchdog function and the reason for its rarity in Nigeria broadcast media. Methodology: The study used the qualitative case study approach. Two broadcast media were purposively selected for the study-FRCN and AIT. Semi-structured face to face interview was used to collect data from ten informants comprising of senior editors and field reporters who were purposively selected for the study. Researchers used thematic analysis for data analysis to interpret and discuss findings. Main findings: The broadcast media perform the watchdog role through reporting of investigations not initiated by them and also through their programs. The absence of watchdog in their media is influenced by the interference of broadcast media owners, enormous economic and commercial pressures on them being a more capital intensive media as well as the failure of broadcast media practitioners to explore the freedom of information Act like their print counterparts do. Application/Implication: The findings offer a reference point for media regulatory bodies to discover broadcast media issues that are useful for making regulations to improve media practice. It contributes to the call for media social responsibility by providing insight into the impediments of fulfilling the media’s social obligation as a watchdog. Novelty/originality: Research in the area of media watchdog role and functions have often focused on audience perceptions and evaluations of print media. This study explored broadcast media and added to the conceptualization of the concept of media as watchdog beyond investigative journalism only.

Regulation is an important aspect of the freedom of expression of broadcast media. However, in Pakistan, it is purported that broadcast media is heavily regulated, and there is very little space for freedom of expression on broadcast media. This short article examines this contention of heavy regulation by analyzing the regulatory system of broadcast media in Pakistan. The doctrinal legal research method is applied in this study. The socio-legal research method is also adopted to support the doctrinal legal research method. Under socio-legal methods, the qualitative methods of in-depth interviews are adopted. This article finds, among others, that there are numerous issues annexed with the regulation of broadcast media in Pakistan. These issues have seriously affected the applicability of the principle of freedom of expression and also restricted the prospects of effective regulation of broadcast media in Pakistan. In the end, this article articulates future implications regarding the regulation of broadcast media in the country.

Western mass media is considered unfair and subjective in delivering news. Instead previous studies show that those western mass media have unfairly broadcasted news related Muslim people, limited studies have been carried out to show how those media broadcast the news and who control those media. This study, therefore, tries to understand how western media broadcast news related Muslim people and who control those media. This study employed content analysis in which the data was gathered from online sources and scholar journals. The findings show that western media use some strategies in broadcasting news such as making early claims during broadcasting, present false report and negative image, and use unproper language. The conclusion is that unfair news broadcasting related Muslim countries could be happened due to Jews domination in western mass media ownership and management. The limitation of this studi is that the data was merely gathered from online sources. Future research need to be carried out within broader context by involving journalists and communities.

The whole network broadcast is very important in the wireless ad hoc Network. It is more necessary in the routing establish processing. Simple flooding broadcast method is the most common broadcast algorithm. Although this method can cover most of the nodes ,the disadvantage is that it could lead to the broadcasting storm which would reduce the efficiency of the broadcast. According to the old methods which can not solve the broadcast storm effectively, I present the message divided and check together broadcast algorithm which is suitable for the large data packets. It can solve the large data packets sending crashing problem and maintain the integer of the message .Through the research of the low density nodes network message transmission ,I present the Adoption broadcast algorithm which based on the second jump node set. It could select the less first jump nodes to rebroadcast .This algorithm could not only increase the saving forward rate but also maintain the covering rate of broadcast .

Abstract:
Scholars of media and politics mostly recognise that audiences and publics are constructed, but fall short of explaining precisely how their indeterminate and imagined nature can be the basis of their political significance. Interactive broadcast media provides a valuable empirical lens for inquiring into why this may be case. The convergence of newer digital communication technologies with more established radio and television broadcasts is shifting opportunities for news media to affect citizen-state relations. These possibilities are pronounced on the African continent, where mobile telephony and increasingly plural media landscapes have given rise to popular and widespread interactive talk shows. The involvement of audience voices alters the nature of the media space where political communication happens. Through a comparative study of interactive shows in Zambia and Kenya, this article interrogates what audience participation means for the political nature and possibilities of the interactive radio and TV broadcast. Ict shows how the indeterminate audience is the basis for competing ideas about power, authority, and citizenship among the different participants in the show, including politicians, media professionals, and audience members. The power of the “audience-public,” brought into being through the interactive broadcast, it is argued, arises from in-between these participants in public discussion, who each invest in multiple and competing imaginaries of the elusive audience in pursuit of diverse ends.

Media has become a major source of information on health and plays a role in the decision-making process on health topics. We aimed to evaluate the association between zolpidem use and media broadcasts that reported the suicide risk. We obtained the data of adult outpatients who have been prescribed zolpidem or other hypnotics from the National Patient Sample database (2015–2017). We evaluated the change in zolpidem or other hypnotic prescription trends based on the prescription rate and average daily prescribed dose before and after July 2016, using interrupted time series analysis. A total of 129,787 adult patients had at least one zolpidem prescription in 3 years. The prescription rate of zolpidem after the broadcast decreased significantly by 0.178% (95% confidence interval (CI): −0.214, −0.142), whereas that of other hypnotic users did not differ from that before the broadcast (−0.020%, 95% CI: −0.088, 0.047). However, the trends in the prescription rate before and after the broadcast did not differ for zolpidem and other hypnotics. Broadcasting medication safety through major public media could have an effect on medication use. After broadcasting about the suicide risk of zolpidem, its overall prescription rate decreased immediately, but the trend was not changed.

Convergence is a deep integration of knowledge, tools, and all relevant areas of human activities. As an inevitable condition, convergence has also changed a lot of aspects of mass media at the international, national, and local levels. This study elaborates how the local radios in Cirebon, namely Sindangkasih FM, Suara Gratia FM, and Cirebon Radio, are adapting to the convergence culture. This study seeks to demonstrate how the convergence culture can affect private broadcast media, which are not in the epicentrum of media in Indonesia. This study indicates that these three private radios in Cirebon have tried to adapt to the convergence culture in minimally three aspects, namely structural, information coverage, and news presentation or storytelling convergence. The structural convergence happened at the organizational structure of the radio, in which more direct and fluid coordination in the newsgathering and writing processes is applied. At the news coverage level, reporters and scriptwriters are responsible for managing news content for old radio broadcasts and new online media as well. At the news presentation level, the news is not only broadcasted but also reported on new online channels, such as websites and social media. These convergences have further created a more convergent newsroom, including integrating journalism workflows, applying multiskilled journalism and resource sharing, using various technological tools, creating interactivity with the audience, and expanding the audience reach. Abstract:
BackgroundParacetamol self-poisoning, which carries a significant risk of fatal liver damage, is increasing in the UK, especially among adolescents. There is concern that media portrayal of suicidal behaviour may influence its occurrence. We have investigated the effects of two broadcasts of a television drama showing a teenage girl's overdose of paracetamol.MethodData from the Oxford Monitoring System for Attempted Suicide were used to examine changes in the number of overdoses and the use of paracetamol in the three week period before and after both broadcasts. An analysis of log-linear models was carried out, using additional data from two previous years, in order to control for the effects of gender, age group, time period, season, year and drug. A questionnaire was used to ascertain whether the programme had influenced patients' decisions to take an overdose or their choice of drug.ResultsAn increase in paracetamol overdoses occurred following the first broadcast, but when data from the two previous years were examined and the log-linear analysis was used there was no evidence of significant effects attributable to the broadcasts. The questionnaire study revealed that very few people had seen either episode, and only two claimed that it had influenced them (one in terms of getting help).ConclusionsIt is important to use sound methodology to avoid interpreting chance fluctuations as a media effect. The potential positive benefits of such programmes should also be investigated.

Abstract:
Broadcasting through television media is an effective and efficient way to convey information, education and inspiration to the public or society. The information that is presented must have been packaged in such a way that it is interesting to display. However, in practice, there are frequent violations of television broadcasting, especially violating broadcasting code of conduct and broadcast program standards. For this reason, this study aims to determine the regulation of television broadcasts in Indonesia, and to determine the sanctions for violations of television broadcasting. The research method used is normative research with several problem approaches, namely the conceptual approach and the statutory approach. Sources of legal materials used are primary and secondary legal materials. Based on the research that has been done, it shows that the regulation of television broadcasts carried out by the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission is expected to be able to regulate broadcasts so that they do not deviate from broadcast corridors that are in accordance with sound broadcast standards or categories and are able to provide inspiring information and education to the public watching the broadcast. The imposition of sanctions for stations that violate must also be firmer and have a deterrent effect so that the same incident does not occur again. For this reason, it is better if the government, television stations, and the community must work together to create healthy broadcasts not only based on ratings and material benefits, but must be based on the concept of healthy and inspiring education among the public.

Abstract— General election to be one of public concern because in the process leaders will be selected both at the executive and legislative levels. Television media makes the implementation of elections as the content of choice to be broadcast to the public. If the national election is packaged in a broadcast program on national television, then the holding of regional head elections or local elections becomes the material for broadcast programs on local television. East Java is the province that held simultaneous regional elections in 2018, both the election of the Governor and the election of Regents and Mayors. This moment was then managed by TV9, which was one of the local televisions in East Java to present a dialogue program called Ruang Pilkada. From this background, the researcher wanted to find out how the results of the discussion presented in the broadcast program were related to the East Java elections. Talks from the speakers were important to describe as references to the next election. This study uses a case study method and collects data through interviews, observation, and documentation. The result is that the regional election broadcast program can provide an overview of the implementation of the election in accordance with the expected stages and processes of democracy. The discourse in the broadcast program is a reference that the socialization and discussion that educates the public will have an impact on the implementation of a safe and dignified local election. Abstract:
This study examines how different types of co-viewing are associated with viewers’ emotional response to the live broadcast of media events and their social identity. A survey ( N = 206) was conducted to examine the effect of the live broadcast of a grand national ceremony in China. Results show that viewers experienced emotional arousal when they watched the media event in physical, mediated, and perceived co-viewing conditions. Among these conditions, mediated co-viewing, operationalized as social media engagement during the event, is the strongest predictor of emotional arousal. Moreover, emotional arousal fully mediates the relationship between co-viewing conditions and viewers’ national identity conveyed in the broadcast ceremony. With empirical evidence, we demonstrate the continued relevance of the genre of media events and the importance of co-viewing experiences in the contemporary media ecology. We argue that this broadcast genre is still effective with regard to social integration, and dual-screening media events could be a new mechanism of this effect.

Abstract:
AbstractThe case study of the Muslim movement Ansar Dine and its charismatic leader Sharif Haidara illustrates that the debate on, and public significance of, Islam has been shifting in recent years and how broadcast media played into this process. Haidara's extensive use of (mostly aural) media allows him to combine traditional elements of religious authority with new credentials. His public prominence and success suggests that broadcasting contributes to the rationalization of religious genres in a double sense. The dissemination of religious knowledge on broadcast media works through the standardization of genres and styles of religious argument. It contributes to a process of objectification in the course of which 'religion' becomes the object of individual scrutiny and identity construction. But this does not indicate a shift towards a more rational character of religious debate. Haidara's persuasiveness resides to a major extent in his capacity to captivate listeners' aesthetic sensibilities. Popular reception of Haidara's teachings evidences the significance of religious debate in secular state politics. It illustrates some ways in which consumption of religious broadcasts contributes to a partial re-sacralization of everyday experience.

Abstract:
The IberSpeech-RTVE Challenge presented at IberSpeech 2018 is a new Albayzin evaluation series supported by the Spanish Thematic Network on Speech Technologies (Red Temática en Tecnologías del Habla (RTTH)). That series was focused on speech-to-text transcription, speaker diarization, and multimodal diarization of television programs. For this purpose, the Corporacion Radio Television Española (RTVE), the main public service broadcaster in Spain, and the RTVE Chair at the University of Zaragoza made more than 500 h of broadcast content and subtitles available for scientists. The dataset included about 20 programs of different kinds and topics produced and broadcast by RTVE between 2015 and 2018. The programs presented different challenges from the point of view of speech technologies such as: the diversity of Spanish accents, overlapping speech, spontaneous speech, acoustic variability, background noise, or specific vocabulary. This paper describes the database and the evaluation process and summarizes the results obtained.

Abstract:
Social media use is essential for success in today's television news industry. Broadcast journalists use social media platforms to gather and disseminate news in more efficient ways. Broadcasters are also using social media to engage with news consumers in innovative ways. This study employs a mixed-method approach to better understand how social media impacts broadcast journalists’ routines and values and explores the role of gender in broadcasters’ social media strategies. Qualitative in-depth interviews with top broadcast journalists and a social media discourse analysis of their Twitter pages produces this study's findings. Findings suggest that in many television newsrooms social media have become more important than traditional platforms like evening newscasts, and social media metrics are being used to gauge journalists’ success. Additionally, women broadcasters are disadvantaged by the current social media practices in many newsrooms. Implications are discussed.
