Abstract:
Increasing broadband adoption among members of underserved populations remains a high priority among policymakers, advocates, corporations, and affected communities. But questions about the risks entailed in the flow of personal information are beginning to surface and shine light on the tension between broadband’s benefits and harms. This article examines broadband adoption programs at community-based and public institutions in the United States in order to understand the ways in which privacy and surveillance issues emerge and are engaged in these settings. While adults who enroll in introductory digital literacy classes and access the Internet at public terminals feel optimistic about broadband “opportunities,” they encounter “privacy-poor, surveillance-rich” broadband. Users experience myriad anxieties, while having few meaningful options to meet their concerns.

Abstract Satellite channel is the representative non-linear channel with limited frequency band. The random change of the channel causes the communication stability to be affected. With the development of satellite communication technology, the bandwidth of satellite communication has increased and the data rate has also increased significantly, resulting in more serious code interference, which has become a key factor affecting communication quality. Finding an efficient equalization technology to eliminate channel inter-code interference is the key to ensuring satellite broadband communications. This article first briefly discusses the principle of eliminating inter-symbol interference and common equalizer algorithms, and summarizes the main factors that affect the performance of channel equalization algorithms. On this basis, an improved LSTM blind equalization algorithm is proposed.

The AMR (Auto Meter Reading) is needs to prepare separate IPs and communication lines for remote communication because DCU (Data Concentration Unit) and wideband modem are identical system required the resource to communication. It is the purpose of the literature to improve system stability and data reliability by means of integrating broadband cable communication part and PLC communication part within DCU. A PLC has some draw-backs in wideband communication because of absences of international standard specifications and the characteristic of power line. We integrated broadband cable modem and PLC modem in DCU. Therefore, the communication system is designed with unified board. PLC modem and broadband cable modem are designed to meet ISO/IEC12139-1 and international specified DOCSIS2.0 standard, respectively.

Abstract:
Broadband power line communication (PLC) is used as a communication technique for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) in Korea. High-speed (HS) PLC specified in ISO/IEC12139-1 and HomePlug Green PHY (HPGP) are deployed for remote metering. Recently, internet of things (IoT) PLC has been proposed for reliable communications on harsh power line channels. In this paper, the physical layer performance of IoT PLC, HPGP, and HS PLC is evaluated and compared. Three aspects of the performance are evaluated: the bit rate, power spectrum, and bit error rate (BER). An expression for the bit rate for IoT PLC and HPGP is derived while taking the padding bits and number of tones in use into consideration. The power spectrum is obtained through computer simulations. For the BER performance comparisons, the upper bound of the BER for each PLC standard is evaluated through computer simulations.

Abstract:
In this paper the multicarrier direct-sequence code-division multiple access (MC DS-CDMA) using space-time spreading assisted transmit diversity is investigated in the context of broadband wireless communi-cations systems constructed based on the generalized approach to signal processing in noise over frequency-se-lective Rayleigh fading channels. We consider the issue of parameter design for the sake of achieving high-ef-ficiency communications in various dispersive environments. In contrast to the conventional MC DS-CDMA wireless communication system employing the time (T)-domain spreading only, in the present paper the broad-band wireless MC DS-CDMA wireless communication schemes employ both the time (T)-domain and frequen-cy (F)-domain spreading, i.e., employ the TF-domain spreading. The bit-error rate (BER) performance of the space-time spreading assisted broadband MC DS-CDMA wireless communications system is investigated for down-link transmissions associated with the single user and multiuser generalized detectors and is compared with that of the single user correlation detector and the multiuser decorrelating detector. Our study demonstra-tes that with appropriately selecting the system parameters, the broadband MC DS-CDMA wireless communi-cation system using the space-time spreading assisted transmit diversity constitutes a promising downlink tran-smission scheme. This scheme is capable to support ubiquitous communications over diverse communication environments without the BER performance degradation

Abstract:
The internet is the backbone of today’s digital world. A cobweb of fiber optics/wireless towers have been spread all over the globe for internet access in every nook and corner of the globe. Though fiber optics is a very costly affair, major industries are still opting for fiber network instead of satellite communication. Satellites can be placed in three different orbits for connectivity. These are LEO, MEO, and GEO. Despite so much advancement in the space technologies, satellite broadband is still in its infancy stage. This paper reviews why fiber optics have been the choice of technology giants instead of satellite communications. This paper also discusses various difficulties in implementation of satellite broadband and the implementation of the Starlink project for satellite broadband. This paper also sheds light on how the SPT (Squeeze Pack and Transfer) compression algorithm helps in improving internet implementation using satellite communication.

Abstract:
For a long time, the development of maritime communication has been restricted by the low data rate, high-latency and high cost of the current communication systems. The upgrade of new generation mobile communication technologies is attracting more and more attention to conduct a shore-based broadband mobile communication network with high-latency and high reliability to serve the maritime industries. This paper presents a solution by means of building a ship-to-infrastructure (S2I) and a ship-to-ship (S2S) wireless communication networks for an offshore region. We characterize the S2I and S2S channels at 5.9 GHz band based on the channel measurements in realistic environments. The channel characteristics, including power delay profile, delay spread, propagation path loss, are extracted and analyzed. In view of the difference between marine and terrestrial communications, we analyze the influencing factors of the offshore water, including effective reflection, divergence and shadowing from the water surface, and diffraction loss caused by the earth curvature. We also predict the power coverage range and the channel capacity for S2I and S2S wireless communications. Finally, the communication performance is evaluated according to the channel measurement and characterization analysis. The research results can be a reference for the construction of maritime communication networks.

Power line communication (PLC) is considered one of the possible communication technologies for applications in the field of smart metering, smart substations, smart homes, and recently for the management of renewable resources or micro grid control. This article deals with the use of PLC technology to determine the technical condition of the cable. This coefficient can help distribution system operators (DSO) to assess the condition of their cable routes. In this way, possible cable breakdowns and subsequent power outages can be prevented. The resulting methodology for calculating the coefficient is presented in two specific examples of routes, in which a significant benefit for DSO’s can be found.

Abstract:
The analysis of the use of chaotic signals filtered through a broadband bandpass filter to ensure stealth and reliability of data transmission operations in radio communication systems is carried out. Time realizations of chaotic signals generated by the well-known Chua and Rikitake generators are obtained. They were filtered using a broadband bandpass filter, and the data obtained was studied using BDS-statistic and crest factor. As a result of the studies, it was found that under certain research conditions, time realizations of Chua generator and Rikitake generator, obtained by broadband filtering, are suitable. Other considered time realizations are not suitable for radio communication systems, since either they have low stealth from the outside observer, or they have an unacceptable crest factor value for radio communication systems. From this we can conclude that filtering chaotic signals using a broadband bandpass filter as a whole is a promising approach to ensure the stealth and reliability of data transmission in radio communication systems. The authors, basing on the conducted research and conclusions from well-known works, consider it appropriate to use broadband filtering to ensure the stealth and reliability of data transmission in radio communication systems when using chaotic signals, along with widely used methods.

Abstract:
In the early 21st century, governments developed national broadband plans to supply high-speed broadband networks for the emerging digital economy and to enable digital services delivery. Most national broadband plans are now focused on moving to ever faster networks, but there is a growing need to develop national digital communications strategies to focus on the demand-side of the broadband “eco-system”. In this paper, we outline the approaches adopted by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Korea to assist in the development (or renewal) of Australia’s national broadband strategy, or, as we prefer, national digital communications strategy. The paper draws on the lessons learned from the case-study countries and the recent pandemic and considers some theoretical aspects of the broadband ecosystem. We conclude by suggesting a process to re-evaluate Australia’s national digital communications strategy as it rolls forward, and to incorporate recent international trends to develop demand-side policies to enable greater adoption and use of existing broadband infrastructure and digital services.
