Saturé de couleurs vives, empruntant largement aux buffleteries et autres vareuses à brandebourgs chères aux militaires, le costume de cirque classique véhicule une troublante sensation à la fois de gaieté et de superficialité. Comme si la brillance contraignait l’émotion à ne s’épanouir qu’en surface… Constitué autour de cinq figures essentielles, le costume de cirque est, stricto sensu, basé sur des archétypes esthétiques. Avec l’émergence du cirque contemporain à la fin des années 1960, le vestiaire circassien va subir les affres de la mutation et s’affranchir d’un certain nombre des facilités qui ont contribué à le caractériser depuis le XIXe siècle. Le rouge, l’or et les paillettes se sont effacés au profit de tonalités sourdes et les acrobates privilégient désormais le noir, le brun, le gris et le blanc, à moins que la peau nue ne fasse à elle seule sens et sensation. C’est sans doute une élégante façon d’évacuer la dimension mortifère du cirque, implicitement liée aux origines guerrières du premier spectacle équestre, et d’affirmer ainsi de nouveaux codes d’identification et de lecture. Un effet de style qui est aussi sans doute une preuve de maturité.

Abstract:

Spectrometric detector complex ZINA-NT is intended to study a radiation conditions onboard satellite and characteristics of hard X-ray and gamma-ray fluxes from GRB, solar flares and to detect other non-stationary fluxes of cosmic gamma-rays. The advantages for using of this new detector for modification of present neutral particles detector on the base of CsI(Tl) are discussed. Scintillation detectors based on BrilLanCe series crystal have got very small lighting time, an excellent energy resolution and light output, more intensive than devices based on CsI(Tl). Using of BrilLanCe series crystal instead of CsI(Tl) ones allows to detect terrestrial gamma flashes (TGF), gamma ray bursts (GRB) and solar flares with smaller time durations and intensities. Moreover, the counts rate linearity region of BrilLanCe detectors is extended up to 106 s-1 and it allows to observe a very intensive events. So, the using of such type of detector permits us the possibility to separate gamma-quanta and neutrons on the timescales less than 50 microseconds.

Abstract:

In this study, a core-shell structured Fe3O4@SiO2-Ag nanocomposite structure was synthesized by in situ wet chemistry method with the help of polyvinylpyrrolidone used as stabilizer and auxiliary. SEM-EDS, XRD, and FTIR analyses were performed for the characterization of nanocomposites. Doping Ag nanoparticles on the silica surface prevent agglomeration and small-sized and highly dispersed Ag nanoparticles are obtained. Fe3O4@SiO2-Ag nanocomposite shows superior photocatalytic activity on Brillant Green dyestuff. The Fe3O4@SiO2-Ag nanocomposite showed superior performance in the photocatalytic degradation of Brillant Green, and even after operating 5 times, there was no significant decrease in the activity of the catalyst and it could be easily recycled by creating an external magnetic field.

Abstract:

Résumé Ce texte se propose de livrer une enquête historique sur les cultures sensorielles dans les missions iroquoises du 17e siècle afin d’évaluer le rôle que la lumière, comme matière et comme symbole, a joué dans la rencontre des mondes iroquois et jésuite. L’analyse respective des relations entre la vue et l’audition dans ces cultures permet de mieux comprendre la promotion des matériaux brillants en contexte missionnaire. Alors que les jésuites opposent le langage aux images, l’audible au visible, les Iroquois posent la vue comme l’équivalent de la voix. Cette équivalence se matérialise par l’utilisation de matériaux brillants comme, par exemple, l’emploi des colliers de coquillage (wampum) dans la transmission de discours importants. La lumière à la surface des choses subsume les différences entre vision et audition. Il se pourrait que cela soit la raison pour laquelle les missionnaires privilégient les scénographies lumineuses dans leur apostolat auprès des Iroquois. En créant des décors composés de luminaires, de wampums ou de textiles, les jésuites tentent de « convertir » les Amérindiens à leur conception d’un au-delà incommensurablement plus lumineux et vivant que des éclats lumineux à la surface des choses. Il reste que, pour les Iroquois, ces reflets intermittents sont précieux pour eux-mêmes : ils vitalisent le tissu social, revigorent les forces, distribuent à l’ensemble de la communauté un bien inestimable.

Abstract:

‘Rojo Brillante’ is currently the most important persimmon cultivar in Spain. The incidence and etiology of postharvest diseases affecting this cultivar were determined under local conditions. Latent and wound pathogens were assessed for two consecutive seasons on commercially grown persimmons from two orchards. Healthy persimmons were either surface-disinfested or artificially wounded on the rind and placed in humid chambers at 20 or 25°C for up to 9 weeks. Additionally, decay was assessed on commercially handled persimmons stored at 1°C for up to 20 weeks. In all cases, the most frequent disease was alternaria black spot (ABS) caused by Alternaria alternata and an ABS severity index specific for ‘Rojo Brillante’ persimmons was established. Other minor pathogens causing latent infections, mostly stem-end rots, included Botrytis cinerea, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Neofusicoccum spp., Pestalotiopsis clavispora, and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Penicillium expansum and, to much a lesser extent, Cladosporium cladosporioides were other pathogens causing wound infections. These two fungi and A. alternata and B. cinerea were also isolated from cold-stored fruit. Common isolates were identified by macroscopic and microscopic morphology and/or DNA amplification and sequencing. Pathogenicity of selected isolates was demonstrated by fulfilling Koch’s postulates. Disease development at 20 and 5°C was characterized on artificially inoculated persimmons.

Diego Pérez de Valdivia (1525-1589), uno de los más brillantes discípulos de Juan de Ávila, biblista y profesor de Sagrada Escrituras, ha sido autor de un sermón que se transcribe aquí por primera vez y del que se ofrece una propuesta interpretativa. Por carecer de lugar y año, resulta especialmente problemática su contextualización en la biografía del sacerdote baezano y, en general, en el marco de su época. Sin embargo, la textura espiritual del sermón y la forma de vertebrar el lenguaje religioso en él, dibujan un escenario catequético en el cual este sermón, dedicado al capítulo 22 del evangelio de Mateo, se insertaría como una pieza clave. Diego Pérez podría dirigirse no solo a un público indiferenciado sino también o, especialmente, a un sector de indecisos, dudosos o simplemente de católicos, cuyo arraigo en la fe cristiana, fuera o no reciente, arrastaba un profundo déficit de formación religiosa.

Abstract:

Commercial production area and yield of sweet persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.) in Spain has doubled in the last 10 years to more than 5,000 ha and 50,000 tons, respectively, mainly because of the high quality and consumer demand for the Valencian autochthonous cultivar ‘Rojo Brillante’ in European markets. In a recent survey of decay on ‘Rojo Brillante’ persimmons stored in commercial packinghouses, fruit were found with disease symptoms of firm brown to dark brown round spots scattered on the fruit cheeks. Isolation of the potential causal agent (isolate IVIA QCV-2) was performed by disinfecting the surface of symptomatic fruit with alcohol, aseptically cutting pieces of infected peel tissue, and then plating them onto potato dextrose agar (PDA). The fungus grew fast, covering the entire plate surface (9 mm diameter) after 7 to 10 days of incubation at 25°C with cottony grayish mycelium that darkened with time. Masses of salmon-colored conidia were apparent in the center of some colonies. Conidia were one-celled, hyaline, aseptate, ovoid to oblong with rounded or obtuse ends, and 11.5 to 15.5 × 3.0 to 6.5 μm (n = 50). The identification of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. & Sacc. [synonym: Vermicularia gloeosporioides Penz.; teleomorph: Glomerella cingulata (Stoneman) Spauld. & H. Schrenk] was performed at the Instituto Valenciano de Microbiología (IVAMI, Bétera, Valencia, Spain) by macro and micro morphological observations and confirmed with the amplification and subsequent sequencing of the ribosomal DNA regions 5.8S-ITS2-28S, using the primers ITS3 and ITS4 (4). A representative nucleotide sequence was deposited in GenBank (Accession No. KC113600) and a BLAST search showed 99% identity with the strain C1254.3 of C. gloeosporioides (JX010153) (3). To fulfill Koch's postulates, selected healthy ‘Rojo Brillante’ persimmons were surface sterilized by dipping them for 2 min in a 0.5% sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution and thoroughly rinsing with fresh water. Mycelial plugs (5-mm diameter) from the edge of 7-day old colonies of isolate IVIA QCV-2 grown on PDA at 25°C were aseptically transferred to skin wounds (one plug per fruit). Wounded but not inoculated fruit were used as controls. Persimmons were placed in three humid chambers that each contained four fruit and incubated at 20°C for up to 21 days. The experiment was repeated twice. While inoculated persimmons developed anthracnose disease in all cases and C. gloeosporioides was consistently reisolated from these fruit, no decay was observed on control fruit. To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. gloeosporioides causing postharvest persimmon fruit rot in Spain. Persimmon anthracnose caused by this pathogen is well known in Asian countries such as China and Korea (1). This disease was also reported in Brazil (2). References: (1) J. H. Lee et al. Liliana Colanzi (1981) destaca dentro de la literatura latinoamericana contemporánea por tratar temas actuales que afectan a nuestra sociedad. La escritora boliviana ahonda en temas ecológicos como la evolución geológica, las consecuencias de la radiación nuclear, la explotación de los recursos naturales y las extinciones masivas. Al mismo tiempo, expone la precariedad económica, la ignorancia, la violencia, la corrupción y el machismo. En el cuento “La cueva” de la colección Ustedes brillan en lo oscuro (2022), los procesos de selección natural de las especies que habitan la cueva constituyen un punto focal sobre las consecuencias derivadas de estos problemas. En este sentido, este estudio examina la representación de la caverna como dispositivo narrativo que permite un distanciamiento de la subjetividad humana y desvanece la distinción jerárquica entre los seres, incluidos los humanos en el curso de la evolución. Además, el enfoque de la cueva permite abordar un largo período de tiempo y, por lo tanto, los diferentes ciclos del proceso de selección natural destacan como elementos fundamentales en este marco. Los estudios darwinianos postulados por Elizabeth Grosz y los estudios semióticos de Eduardo Kohn sirven como marco crítico para demostrar el valor de la mutación de las especies y la comunicación e interrelación en que se mueven, provocando constantes cambios en su entorno.

Abstract. In this study, cypress leaves were used for the preparation of a biosorbent to remove brilliant green (BG) and black lanasyn (LB) from aqueous solutions. The influence of several experimental factors, such as time of contact, pH, initial concentration, ionic strength, temperature, stirring speed, and particle size, on the adsorption of these dyes was studied. Contact time s'effect has showed that balance was reached at 30 min with adsorption capacities 9.24 and 4.08 mg/g and elimination rates of 95.97 % and 34 % for BG and LB, respectively. Moreover, the study has shown that the adsorption of the two dyes can be described by pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorption isotherms demonstrated that the Freundlich model was satisfactory compared with the Langmuir model for describing the process of adsorption of the two dyes on the cypress. The results showed that the adsorption process is spontaneous, feasible, and endothermic for BG and non-spontaneous and exothermic for LB. Multi-docking reflecting the biosorption of brilliant green and Lanasyn black on the adsorbant surface is proposed. On the fundamental plane, the fractional orthogonal Taguchi plane L16 (45) was used to optimize the conditions for brilliant green adsorption on the cypress. In conclusion, the results showed that cypress leaves could be advantageously used as a low-cost biosorbent for the removal of brilliant green and lanasyn black in wastewater treatment. Resumen. En este estudio se usaron hojas de ciprés para preparar un biosorbente que remueve los colorantes verde brillante (BG) y lanasyn negro (LB) de soluciones acuosas. En la adsorción de estos colorantes se estudió la influencia de varios factores experimentales como tiempo de contacto, pH, concentración inicial, fuerza iónica, temperatura, velocidad de agitación y tamaño de partícula. El efecto del tiempo de contacto mostró que el balance se alcanzó a los 30 min con capacidades de adsorción de 9.24 y 4.08 mg/g y velocidades de eliminación de 95.97 % y 34 % para BG y LB, respectivamente. El estudio mostró que la adsorción de los dos colorantes se puede describir por una cinética de pseudo segundo orden. Para describir el proceso de adsorción de los dos colorantes en las hojas de ciprés, las isotermas de adsorción demostraron que el modelo de Freundlich es satisfactorio comparado con el modelo de Langmuir. Los resultados muestran que el proceso de adsorción es espontáneo, factible y endotérmico para BG, y no espontáneo y exotérmico para LB. Se propone un acoplamiento múltiple reflejando la biosorción del verde brillante y el lanasyn negro sobre la superficie del adsorbente. En el aspecto fundamental, la fracción ortogonal del plano de Taguchi L16 (45) se utilizó para optimizar las condiciones de adsorción del verde brillante en las hojas de ciprés. En conclusión, los resultados muestran que las hojas de ciprés pueden utilizarse como biosorbentes de bajo costo para la remoción de verde brillante y lanasyn negro en el tratamiento de aguas residuales.

Le succès exceptionnel de la sigillée, vaisselle de table en terre cuite de la période romaine, est en grande partie dû à la brillance et à la couleur rouge uniforme de sa couverte qui ont nécessité le développement de procédés techniques très performants. Abstract Background With a volume of approximately 5000 urine culture specimens per month in our tertiary-care university center hospital’s microbiology laboratory, we wanted to evaluate methods aiming to improve workflow and performance while reducing turnaround time and potentially overall cost. Methods 310 urine culture specimens as well as selected less frequent pathogens (A. urinae - 26 strains, C. urealyticum - 4 strains) were plated on four chromogenic agars in parallel with standard protocol MacConkey (MAC) and blood agar (BA). Chromogenic agars evaluated were: UriSelectTM 4 (Bio-Rad), CHROMID® CPS® Elite (bioMérieux), BrillanceTM UTI ClarityTM agar Biplate (Oxoid) and BDTM CHROMagarTM Orientation (BD). Primary outcome was overall growth performance for frequent pathogens and for gram positives, where chromogenic agars were previously reported to underperform.The number of additional tests needed and the appreciation of different media by laboratory personnel were also assessed. A sub-analysis measured the total time required to plate and to read 50 consecutive specimens comparatively for the 4 chromogenic agars and for MAC/BA. Results Global performance was 90% for Uriselect, 88% for ChromID, 89% for Chromagar and 81% for Brillance compared to 84% for standard method. ChromID and Brillance supported the growth of more A. urinae and C. urealyticum than the other 2 chromogenic agars. All monoplate chromogenic agars were appreciated equally by technologists. In addition, for all chromogenic agars, working time was reduced by half as compared to MAC/BA. We estimated a time economy of approximately 80 hours per month in our laboratory, translating in a net annual economy. Conclusion All 4 chromogenic medias evaluated in our study had an acceptable performance, with specific strengths and weaknesses for each one. The choice of ChromID CPS Elite (bioMérieux) for our center was based on pre-established criteria including performance for more fastidious gram positives, best time and cost economy, and compatibility with current identification method and susceptibility testing platform. However, since the 4 chromogenic agars have been adequately verified in our laboratory, we consider that they could be interchangeable if needed. Disclosures All Authors: No reported disclosures

L’évolution des modes d’occupation du sol porte l’empreinte des activités anthropiques et correspond à un processus dynamique assez complexe, qui agit sur les ressources naturelles. La région agricole de la Béqaa Ouest est caractérisée par des conditions naturelles favorables pour une production agricole diversifiée. La télédétection montre l’ampleur des changements des modes d’occupation du sol entre 1962 et 2019. L’analyse diachronique révèle une régression du couvert végétal au profit des tissus urbains dans la plaine. L’interprétation des résultats doit tenir compte des causes locales de cette mutation en mettant en évidence les pratiques culturales et pastorales, les facteurs économiques, l’extension urbaine, les flux migratoires syriens et le déboisement qui fragilise le milieu en provoquant le décapage des couches superficielles. L’indice de brillance de l’image Ikonos de haute résolution indique la sévérité de cette dégradation. Tout cela interroge l’avenir agricole de cette région dont les productions constituent un apport essentiel aux marchés nationaux.

Les voix sont présentes dans la plupart des communications. Pourtant, la littérature sur la persuasion vocale est étonnamment limitée et fragmentée, se concentrant sur certaines caractéristiques vocales (e.g., la hauteur – grave vs. aigu) et certains contextes, donnant lieu à des résultats mitigés. Cette recherche tente d’intégrer les différents construits et mécanismes impliqués dans la persuasion vocale grâce à la fertilisation croisée des disciplines ayant étudié la voix (psychoacoustique, psychologie cognitive, anthropologie, psycho-sociologie, marketing et politique). A l’aide d’un logiciel d’acoustique, l’étude 1 manipule les caractéristiques vocales clés (i.e., hauteur, brillance, et rugosité) et le genre de l’orateur d’une annonce radio pour une catégorie de produit neutre et non genré. L’étude 2 explore une condition limite potentielle des effets de la voix, la présence d’attentes envers l’orateur spécifiques au contexte (i.e., liées au genre et au niveau de compétence), en manipulant la voix d’un candidat politique. Les effets des caractéristiques vocales sont cohérents dans les deux contextes : les orateurs avec des voix graves (vs. aigües), mates (vs. brillantes), et lisses (vs. rugueuses) sont les plus efficaces. Les orateurs avec des voix aigües, mates, et lisses sont perçus comme plus compétents. Enfin, le genre de l’orateur joue un rôle persuasif secondaire ; le genre de l’auditeur ne joue de rôle qu’en l’absence d’attentes envers l’orateur. Les implications pour la recherche sur la persuasion de la voix et de la source en général, ainsi que pour le casting et le coaching vocal sont discutées.

Abstract:

L’échographie est une technique d’imagerie médicale basée sur l’utilisation des ultrasons. Les ultrasons produits par les cristaux piézoélectriques de la sonde échographique et propagés dans les tissus sous-jacents sont réfléchis à l’interface de deux milieux qui présentent une différence d’impédance acoustique. L’onde réfléchie ou écho captée par la sonde déforme les cristaux. Cette énergie mécanique est convertie en un signal électrique proportionnel à l’intensité de l’écho avec un délai relatif à sa distance parcourue. Un point lumineux représentant chaque écho est placé à l’écran à une profondeur appropriée en fonction du temps de retour de l’écho. La brillance des éléments de l'image varie en fonction de l'intensité de l'écho : les liquides embryonnaires anéchogènes apparaissent en noir, la paroi utérine et les structures embryonnaires très échogènes apparaissent en blanc. Des artefacts sont fréquemment observés lors de l'inspection des organes génitaux. Ainsi, la réflexion du faisceau sur une zone lisse, large et parallèle à la sonde comme les plis endométriaux produit une image brillante dite spéculaire. Les réflexions non spéculaires ou diffuses sont à l’origine de la nuance de gris relativement constante du corps jaune. Une ombre est causée par le blocage du faisceau par un réflecteur très dense comme le bassin osseux ou sa déviation à partir du côté d’une structure liquidienne comme le follicule. L'artéfact par augmentation est à l’origine de l'image vue au delà d'un follicule qui apparaît comme nettement plus blanche que les zones adjacentes. La réverbération caractérisée par un empilement d’échos équidistants et de plus en plus faibles résulte du rebondissement de l'écho entre deux interfaces à forte impédance acoustique.

Abstract:

Recent ten genotypes of gerbera were evaluated for vegetative traits during the year 2022-23 to determine genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for 15 quantitative traits. Analysis of variance showed significant differences among genotypes for all the characters studied. Results revealed that magnitude of the Phenotypic Coefficient of Variation (PCV) was higher than Genotypic Coefficient of Variation (GCV) for all the traits, indicating greater genotype and environment interaction. High PCV and GCV were observed for number of leaves/plant and leaf width. In the present study bud initiation, plant spread after 100 days of panting, plant height after 45 days of planning showed the high heritability along with maximum genetic gain. Number of leaves (45 days) had maintained only positive correlation with the considered vegetative traits. Leaf length (45 days) exhibited showed direct relationship with plant height (45 days) and leaf length(100 days) while negative relation of plant spread (45 days) with leaf length (100 days) and days to bud initiation. Path coefficient analysis showed, plant spread (0.976) had highest positive effect on fresh weight of flowers followed by leaf length (0.824), number of leaves per plant (0.20) while negative effect of plant height (45 and 100 days), days to bud initiation, leaf length (100 days). Performance of Intense, Stanza, Brillance would be unstable type as compared to Golian and Dana Ellen as placed near to the origin of biplot analysis in the present study based on vegetative traits in biplot analysis. Next cluster in same quadrant was comprised of leaf length, leaf width, plant height at 45 days of planting. First cluster of other quadrant comprised of leaf length, leaf width, plant spread at 100 days of planting and last cluster of days to bud initiation with fresh weight of flowers formed across the quadrants.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was the isolation, identification, phylogenetic analysis and antifungal susceptibility of Candida spp. from milk samples of healthy and mastitic cows in Kayseri/Turkey. Milk samples from 300 cows were found to be negative/positive for mastitis with the California Mastitis Test. Candida spp. was isolated by using the Brillance Candida Agar Base. Phenotypic tests, Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization - Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF), and VITEK-2 analyses were applied to confirm the obtained isolates. Resistance to flucytosine, fluconazole and caspofungin antifungals of the isolates were determined by Etest and VITEK-2. The genetic homologies of Candida spp. isolates were determined by Repetitive Extragenic Palindromic-PCR (RepPCR). In this study 62 (from 53 healthy, 9 mastitic) yeast isolates were obtained and 37 (59.6 %) were identified as non-albicans Candida (NAC) species. Phenotypic tests revealed that out of 62 isolates, 29 (46.7 %), 4 (6.5 %), 3 (4.8 %), 1 (1.6 %) and, 24 (38.7 %) were identified as Candida lusitaniae, Candida catenulate, Candida tropicalis, Candida silvicola and other yeast species, respectively. Only one sample (1.6 %) was identified as Candida albicans by MALDI-TOF however, according to VITEK-2, the agent was not confirmed as C. albicans. According to antifungal susceptibility testing by VITEK-2, one (2.7 %) of the isolates was resistant to fluconazole, one (2.7 %) was resistant to caspofungin, and 4 (10.8 %) were resistant to flucytosine. However, using E test, 10 isolates (27 %) were resistant to flucytosine. Using Rep-PCR, eight genotypic clones were observed. Genotype F (13.8 %) and G (13.8 %; 2 subtypes) were common clones in this study. In conclusion, NAC species were detected in healthy and mastitic cow milk samples. Epidemiological studies need to be conducted to track effectively the main source and to understand the diversity and distribution of the agent. It is necessary to consider the potential risks of yeast contamination in milk for public health. It is essential to focus on adequate sanitation procedures and storage conditions of milk.
