Abstract:

The hair in Ma tendre ennemie by Lisa Bresner : the queue, the ink brush and the castrated painter Lisa Bresner (1971‐2007) is a novelist, translator, and sinologist, who has dedicated her entire life to literary creation around China and Asia. Ma tendre ennemie is her second novel, published in 1994 by Gallimard. The themes of Lisa Bresner’s work have to do with body and sensation. As for Ma tendre ennemie, this symbolic role returns to the hair – the support of sexual seduction, of power, of fertility, and more particularly of this novel, of artistic creation. This article aims to analyse, how the notion of hair in the novel goes hand in hand with the ambiguous political and social stake of the wearing of the queue during the first Sino‐Japanese war, the deconstruction of the castration, the aesthetic of cruelty, and the reinterpretation of Asian eroticism.

Este artigo faz uma apreciação da obra do professor Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira, tendo em vista sua teoria sobre a relação entre democracia e desenvolvimento capitalista. Primeiro, retorna à versão original da teoria, escrita em 2002, para em seguida discutir sua atualização em texto publicado em 2020, no qual confronta suas hipóteses com o fato da recente ascensão de correntes autoritárias de extrema-direita. Finalmente, o artigo esboça, com base nos próprios recursos conceituais da teoria de Bresser-Pereira, uma explicação alternativa da crise atual das democracias nos países ricos.

RESUMO Este trabalho compara o Plano Cruzado com o Plano Bresser. Ambos foram congelamentos de preços baseados na teoria da inflação inercial. No entanto, enquanto o Plano Cruzado pretendia acabar com a inflação, o Plano Bresser era um plano emergencial destinado a enfrentar a profunda crise financeira e econômica deixada pela falência do Cruzado. 1t alcançou este objetivo. Quanto à inflação, os autores do plano esperavam que a taxa de inflação voltasse para cerca de 10% em dezembro de 1987; a taxa real de inflação neste mês foi de 14%.

Abstract:

Tin oxide-based materials have been intensively investigated as alternative anodes for lithium-ion batteries due to their high specific capacity, environmental friendliness, non-toxicity, and ease of handling. However, the initial formation of Li2O upon lithiation is essentially irreversible, which has a severe effect on the first cycle Coulombic efficiency and the reversibly achievable capacity in general.[1]It has been shown that the incorporation of transition metal dopants can address this issue, as it enables the reversible formation and reformation of Li2O.[2] The choice of the dopant, however, plays a critical role for the long-term cycling stability, rate capability, and eventual energy density of the resulting lithium-ion cells.[3] While there have been intensive studies published already on the effect of different dopants for Li-ion battery applications, targeting an optimized combination for achieving enhanced cycling performance[3] and an in-depth understanding of the reaction mechanism,[4,5] the investigation as Na-ion battery active material has not been reported so far. In fact, our results show that the reaction mechanism is fundamentally different, while the incorporation of transition metal dopants is still favorable for the eventual charge storage via sodium cations. The resulting insights into the de-/sodiation mechanism are anticipated to enable the development of further enhanced electrode active materials for sodium-ion batteries and, thus, support the recent success of this alternative battery technology. <p>I appreciate the reflections on the case of Daniel from Dr. Jill Bresler (2016) and from Dr. Stephen Holland (2016) —two experienced clinicians well versed in moving between psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral orientations to more comprehensively meet the needs of their patients.  Dr. Bresler’s response led me to think more about my development as a therapist and the process through which a psychoanalyst struggles to become more integrative. Dr. Holland’s response provided a helpful overview of additional cognitive techniques I might have used, but it also suggested that there may be limits to integrating certain aspects of different theories because of fundamental discrepancies. </p>

Abstract:

Monitoring air pollution is important for human health and the environment. Previous studies on the prediction of air pollutants from satellite images have employed machine learning, yet there are few enhancements to the constructure of model. Moreover, the existing models have been successful in predicting pollutants like PM2.5, PM10, and O3. They have not been as effective in predicting other primary air pollutants. To improve the overall prediction performance of the existing model, a novel residual learning backpropagation model, abs. as BresNet, has been proposed in this research. This model has revealed the availability to precisely predict the ground-surface concentration of the six primary air pollutants, PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, CO, and SO2, based on the satellite imagery of MODIS AOD. Two of the most commonly used machine learning models so far, viz. the multilayer backpropagation neural network (MLBPN) and random forest (RF), were employed as the control. In the conducted experiments, the proposed BresNet model demonstrated significant improvements of 18.75%/31.94%, 33.82%/85.71%, 15.00%/35.29%, 39.06%/134.21%, 23.23%/68.00%, and 137.14%/260.87% in terms of R2 for the six primary air pollutants, compared to the RF/MLBPN model. Moreover, the convergence speed and loss function of the BresNet model compared to that of the MLBPN decreased by 55.15%, revealing superior convergence speed with the lower loss function.

O presente artigo visa discutir a ideia de “Estado financeiramente forte”, proposta por Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira, no bojo do seu projeto, lançado em 2003, da construção de um Estado Novo-Desenvolvimentista. Ao abordar a questão de como esse Estado atuaria, Bresser-Pereiradispensa especial atenção ao que ele chama de “Estado financeiramente forte” em comparação com o Estado produtivamente forte, que teria vigorado durante o período do Desenvolvimentismo Original (1930-1970). Para aprofundar a avaliação dessa ideia, após apresentá-la, busca-secontrapô-la aos resultados reais obtidos por uma das suas materializações mais características, a Política Industrial, Tecnológica e de Comércio Exterior (PITCE). Dentro desta, estreita-se a análisepara os quatro setores estratégicos escolhidos para receber tratamento financeiro (exonerações e subsídios) diferenciado: softwares, semicondutores, fármacos e bens de capital. Analyzing how this state would act, Bresser-Pereira dispenses special attention to what he calls “financially strong state” in comparison with the productively strong state, which would have prevailed during the original Developmentalism period(1930-1970). To probe the evaluation of thisidea, after presenting it, it searches to contrast to the actual results obtained by one of its most characteristic embodiments, the Industrial, Technological and Foreign Trade Policy (PITCE). Within this, it narrows the analysis to the four strategic sectors chosen to receive differentiated financial treatment (exemptions and subsidies): software, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and capital goods. Based on its results, It is possible to evaluate the limits and possibility of the increase of developmentthrough that “visible hand” of the state in the national economy.Keywords: Industrial Policy, New-Developmentalism, State, Economy, Lula’s Government.

O presente ensaio tem por objetivo analisar o Novo Desenvolvimentismo mediante o resgate do pensamento do economista Luis Carlos Bresser-Pereira. Identificou-se que sua proposta apresenta elementos que, lançados na sociedade brasileira do século XXI, entra na disputa hegemônica e busca construir um novo pacto social, que denomino de Pacto Neodesenvolvimentista. Segundo as estratégias de Bresser-Pereira, este pacto pressupõe a construção de um acordo nacional dirigidopelo segmento dos empresários industriais nacionais e firmado entreos diferentes segmentos de classe no país. Enquanto proposta político--econômica, o Novo Desenvolvimentismo apresenta um receituário que engloba, por um lado, um conjunto de recomendações micro emacroeconômicas, e por outro, uma estratégia ideopolítica assentada em concepções relativas ao mercado, Estado, sociedade civil, classes, globalização, entre outros conceitos que lhe dão sustentação teórica epolítica e que evidenciam a existência de uma nova ofensiva burguesano Brasil, agora alicerçada em outro bloco que disputa a direção da sociedade brasileira do século XXI.

RESUMO Bresser-Pereira e Nakano argumentam, em seu artigo sobre crescimento com estabilidade, que o ajuste fiscal já foi efetivamente realizado no Brasil. Para eles o que é necessário fazer, ao contrário das demandas ortodoxas por mais ajuste fiscal, é uma política comercial e industrial ativa para estimular as exportações, para complementar a taxa de juros mais baixa e um câmbio mais desvalorizado. É sugerido aqui que controles de capital seriam necessários para manter relativa estabilidade cambial, seguindo as ideias heterodoxas de Keynes.

A proposta Bresser-Nakano deflagrou uma forte discussão sobre a política de juros no Brasil, suscitando uma série de críticas e contribuições para o seu aperfeiçoamento. Seu argumento central baseia-se na suposição de que o sentido da causalidade vai da taxa de juros para o prêmio de risco, e não o contrário. Com isso, a autoridade monetária, ao reduzi-la, promove um círculo virtuoso na economia, reduzindo o prêmio de risco e, através da taxa de câmbio, a própria inflação. Essa hipótese, no entanto, continua controversa e carece de estudos empíricos visando à sua verificação. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é investigar a sua validade para a economia brasileira nos últimos 10 anos de política monetária. Aplicando testes de causalidade de Granger, os resultados encontrados apóiam a hipótese Bresser-Nakano.

Zusammenfassung Die Kämpfe um die Brester Festung vom 22. bis 29. Juni 1941 gehören zu den weniger bekannten Ereignissen an der Ostfront während des Deutsch-Sowjetischen Krieges. In der Sowjetunion hingegen wurde die »heldenhafte Verteidigung der Brester Festung« als Schlüsselereignis dieses Krieges aufgefasst. Nach der offiziellen Version dauerte sie 32 Tage, gerieten nur wenige Rotarmisten in deutsche Gefangenschaft, alle kämpften bis zur letzten Patrone. Dies war die Grundlage, auf welcher der Festung der Titel »Heldenfestung« verliehen und eine monumentale Gedenkstätte eingerichtet wurde. In einer dichten Beschreibung zeichnet der Autor den Verlauf der Kampfhandlungen auf der Mikro-Ebene nach. Darüber hinaus wendet er sich kontroversen Fragen wie den Verlustzahlen beider Seiten sowie einigen populäreren Motiven des offiziellen Narrativs zu. Er kommt zu dem Schluss, dass das offizielle Narrativ dem Gewicht der Quellen kaum standzuhalten vermag.1

Resumo O artigo examina a visão de Bresser-Pereira sobre distribuição de renda, apresentada em seu livro Lucro, Acumulação e Crise, a respeito da ligação entre a taxa de lucro e a taxa de juros. O autor apresenta uma abordagem alternativa a partir das contribuições recentes de Carlo Panico e Massimo Pivetti, ambos da Universidade de Nápoles. O modelo de Panico enfatiza os elementos de risco-retorno e o aspecto de “armazenamento de valor”, outra função importante desempenhada pelo dinheiro, que afeta a distribuição de renda dos capitalistas industriais, trabalhadores e banqueiros. O autor também discute a metodologia de formação de preços quando a mudança técnica é apresentada, alegando que o modelo de Sraffa é mais adequado para entender a evolução da taxa de lucro no longo prazo.

O presente artigo destaca a relevância da contribuição do professor Bresser-Pereira ao colocar a Teoria Novo-Desenvolvimentista como a referência para pautar o debate macroeconômico em economias em desenvolvimento e, em particular, ao colocar a determinação da taxa real de câmbio como variável-chave para explicar a dinâmica de crescimento e desenvolvimento ao longo do tempo. Para tanto, o artigo inicialmente resume a abordagem de Bresser-Pereira para a determinação da taxa de câmbio, uma de suas contribuições mais originais para a Teoria do Novo-Desenvolvimento. Na sequência, discute a relação entre taxa de câmbio e taxa de juros para explicar como a autonomia de política é restrita em economias em desenvolvimento integradas financeiramente. Por fim, o artigo conclui que a Teoria Novo- Desenvolvimentista oferece insights relevantes e originais para o entendimento da trajetória de crescimento de economias em desenvolvimento integradas financeiramente.

Recent work by Bresnan and colleagues (Bresnan 2007, Bresnan et al. 2007, Bresnan and Nikitina 2007) has argued that double object and prepositional dative constructions are essentially identical, the choice between them being conditioned by various factors. I argue against this conclusion, showing that the grammar clearly distinguishes double object from prepositional dative constructions. Under certain circumstances, the first object of a double object construction can shift to the right, with the preposition to appearing, but the grammar still distinguishes this from a prepositional dative construction that looks identical on the surface. The phenomena that I investigate are scope interactions with quantifiers and locative inversion. In addition, the rightward reordering operations investigated here indicate that constraints on variable binding, including weak crossover, must be formulated in terms of linear order rather than hierarchy.

In this paper, we investigate parametric instability of Bresse–Timoshenko columns subjected to periodic pulsating compressive loads. The results are derived from three theories, namely the Bernoulli–Euler model for thin beams and two versions of the Bresse–Timoshenko model valid for thick beams: The truncated Bresse–Timoshenko model and the Bresse–Timoshenko model based on slope inertia. The truncated Bresse–Timoshenko model has been derived from asymptotic analysis, whereas the Bresse–Timoshenko model based on slope inertia is an alternative shear beam model supported by variational arguments. These models both take into account the rotary inertia and the shear effect. Simple supported boundary conditions are considered, so that the time-dependent deflection solution can be decomposed into trigonometric spatial functions. The instability domain in the load–frequency space is analytically characterized from a Meissner-type parametric equation. For small slenderness ratio, these last two Bresse–Timoshenko models coincide but for much higher slenderness ratio, the parametric instability regions in the load–frequency space shift to the left and widen them as compared to the Bernoulli–Euler model. The importance of these effects differs between the models.

(2010, Advances in Mathematical Modeling and Experimental Methods for Materials and Structures. Solid Mechanics and Its Applications. Springer: Berlin, 249–254.; 2015, Celebrating the Centenary of Timoshenko’s study of effects of shear deformation and rotary inertia. Appl. Mech. Rev.67, 1–11.; 2017, Critical contrasting of three versions of vibrating Bresse-Timoshenko beam with a crack. Int. J. Solids Struct. 109, 143–151.). These equations are free of the so-called ‘second spectrum’ phenomenon, and they have important consequences on stabilization setting. Specifically, following Almeida Júnior and Ramos (2017, On the nature of dissipative Timoshenko systems at light of the second spectrum. Z. Angew. Math. Phys.68, 31.) in a recent contribution that shows that damping effects eliminate the consequences of this spectrum for equal wave propagation velocities, we prove that time delay effects are able of stabilizing the truncated version regardless of any relationship between coefficients of system. It is concluded that dissipative truncated versions of Bresse–Timoshenko equations are advantageous over the classical Bresse–Timoshenko equations in stabilization context.

In corrosion science, accurate determination of chloride ion deposition rates is critical to mitigating the environmental impact on structures. Traditional methods, such as the wet candle and dry plate methods (ISO 9225), are often inaccurate in capturing localized conditions and are also time-consuming and costly. The Bresle method, which measures soluble salts directly on metal surfaces, offers a more targeted approach. This article examines the Bresle method as an alternative for determining average monthly chloride ion deposition rates, including a regression analysis comparing the Bresle method with the wet candle method, and examines the long-term salinity of exposed surfaces in comparison with the additive approach to surface salinity. This paper hypothesizes that the Bresle method can be used as an alternative to the wet candle method. Linear regression analysis shows a strong correlation in chloride ion deposition rates compared to those measured by the wet candle method. However, cumulative measurements using long-term exposed coupons are unreliable due to inconsistent trends.

Abstract:

Indonesia have local chicken’s genetic resources and need to be developed as animal protein resource for fulfill market demand and human nutrition. This research aim to analyzed egg weight, fertility, hatchability and hatching weight of local chicken crossed results between Merawang and Bresse chickens. The natural mating method done by put a rooster Merawang with three hens Bresse chickens in a cage. The eggs produced from second until seventh days were collected, then cleaned and put the marker suit to laying eggs time. The marked eggs loaded into an automatic hatching machine (New Karya Mandiri®) with setting of temperature is 36-37°C (60-70% humidity). Eggs fertility determination were did on fifth day incubation with candling method. The parameters observed were weight, fertility, and hatchability the eggs. The results shows the eggs from crossed Merawang rooster and Bresse hen have average eggs weight is 48,33,6 gram, 61,54% fertility, and 62,5% hatchability. The conclusion was the fertility and hatchability of Merawang rooster and Bresse hen crossed (Bresse’s superior chickens UNIDA/BUNIDA F1) through natural mating are still low, while the egg weight and hatching weight produced are not different from other local chickens. as result of crossing Merawang rooster and Bresse hen. BUNIDA F1 chicken have the potential to exploration as a new breed of superior local chickens.
