Abstract: The present work intends to focus on a brazilian music kind maxixe, that fixed between the musical way by the end of XIX century. It's a historical musicology research work, analysis done by several musical scores, but focusing on Chiquina Gonzaga conductor work. In this retrospective was looked for composer information, in a intention to have a better understanding of her relationship with maxixe kind, so important to the spread of her work and the maxixe kind, as well as to indicate the musical aspects that are related with Brazilian Popular Music development of that time. Political and social relevant aspects to the genese understanding and maxixe spreading are also part of this search, knowing that the delimited period has for its characteristic the search for a national character in the music, over to european compositional models. Tells the importance of the Theater of Magazine as to the composer as to maxixe, and the popular music development, also focus on a problematic symbiosis between maxixe kind and brazilian tango, and the other kinds vogue to the epoca, and the maxixe kind changes denominations in a search for a better society acceptability. Full textObjective: Trauma is recognized as a worldwide public health issue with maxillofacial fractures being commonly seen in the most vulnerable populations of undeveloped countries. Thus, the present study aimed to determine the epidemiological profile of oral and maxillofacial trauma patients of a tertiary hospital in the northeast region of Brazil from 2006 to 2015. Materials and methods: A retrospective study was conducted and the data obtained from the patients records were grouped into independent variables (socio-demographic, etiological and therapeutic data) and outcome variables (fracture occurrence). Results: A total 338 patients were identified, most of them male (p<0,001), aged between 21 to 30 years (p<0,001), bearing mainly single fractures (p<0,001) and not wearing safety devices (p<0,001). No statically significant difference was seen related with the geographical place of origin (p=0,644), but motorcycle accidents was significant (p<0,001). Mandibular and orbital-zygomatic complex fractures were prevalent (p<0,001), specifically mandibular angle fractures (p<0,001). The following were also prevalent: open surgical treatment (p<0,001), in the first 14 days following the trauma, by means of an intra-oral approach (p<0,001) and nasotracheal intubation (p<0,001). Conclusion: maxillofacial fractures were significantly associated with socio-demographic, etiological and therapeutic factors.

We applied the basic Autoregressive Conditional Duration Model (ACD) to the Brazilian Interbank Rate Futures Market. The sample was built using contracts in the month prior to expiration to replicate a one month bond curve and the period studied goes from july of 2013 to september of 2015. We used Maximum Likelihood Estimation based on the most popular probability distributions in the ACD literature: exponential, gamma and Weibull and we found that the estimation based on the exponential distributional was the best option to model the data.

Full textThis paper explores the circulation of Brazilian maxixe news in American newspapers at the beginning of the 20th century. The journals collected in the Newspaperarchive repository were systematized in the form of a documentary corpus. This was the main objective of the work presented here: to produce a research instrument through the construction of a collection of all the Brazilian maxixe materials, published in the United States newspapers, in the form of advertisements, articles, short stories, notes, news and poems, between 1906 - when we found the first news focusing on the theme - and the late 1930s, when Brazilian music was already developing in Brazil, and the products of Brazilian culture had already circulated throughout the world, especially in Europe and the United States. In the period studied, popular music is fun music, made for dancing. Dancing in the halls of Brazil, in the dancings of Paris, in the American ballrooms, more than fashion, was a way to participate in society, to find out about the news, the best known steps, after all, popular music and choreographic dance are artistic expressions which pass through the different social classes. Maxixe was born miscegenated, reflects the \"mixed\" rhythms and genres, present in Brazil since before the 18th century, such as the batuque, the lundu (both African matrix). But it was also strongly influenced by European genres such as modinha, and later by the polka (19th century) and choro - a Brazilian invention. Like all dance, it caused scandal when it arose, by virtue of the movements considered daring, extravagant and lascivious. Little by little, the steps displayed in the cabarets of Rio de Janeiro were transformed, adapting themselves to the \"dignified\" places of Brazilian society, and that is how they began to occupy the ballrooms frequented by the wealthiest classes. On the international axis, Paris was the compass that guided and led the codes of behavior throughout the world, especially during the Belle Époque. The trips of musicians, agents, patrons, etc. and sound objects across the Atlantic are seen from the perspective of transculturation. The contact between groups of different cultures contributes to the transformation of artists and their art, and this occurs independently of the process of economic domination, since all undergo changes (dominated and dominant). On the other hand, the concept of triangulation is appropriate to understand the way the sound and dance objects circulate, and it provides a mapping of the places through which these objects transited, collaborating to the perception of the aspects that are at play in their circulation. In the United States, schools, universities and technique, on the one hand; And family and dance teachers on the other, were central to the bleaching process that allowed the acceptance of the maxixe. On the other hand, theater like a vaudeville and, later, musicals in the theater and in the cinema, collaborated so that the music and the maxixe dance continued present in that country, advancing beyond the 1930s. Diffusion of the maxixe obeyed the logic of the cultural industry, articulating itself to the mechanisms of reproducibility proper to the market.

The optimal firm size plays an important role in determining market structure, planning business decisions, and for antitrust and regulation. Thus, one goal of this study was to estimate the optimal firm size (or EME) for 106 sectors of Brazilian manufacturing industry in a context of limited information. Another goal was to analyze the change of the optimal firm size due to trade liberalization in Brazil. For this purpose two procedures were used in sequence: Maximum Entropy (GOLAN, JUDGE & PERLOFF, 1996) and Survivor Technique (STIGLER, 1958). First we applied the Maximum Entropy to estimate the distribution of market shares in each sector using only measures of concentration. Data refer to the years 1978, 1995 and 1997. The next procedure was the application of the survivor technique to these distributions to find the optimal firm size during the periods before and after trade liberalization. The results indicate that the trade liberalization process has contributed to an increase in the optimal firm size in over 60% of the sectors. This increase occurred mainly in capital intensive sectors that had high foreign firms’ ownership rates. These results support the arguments of industrial organization and international trade literature which claim that the high protectionism stimulated the proliferation of small and inefficient firms producing on small and not competitive scales.

Full textIn Brazil, the broadcasting system for television content in high definition is the ISDB-Tb. Although robust, the content transmission in this system, like in any radio frequency propagation, can suffer from external attenuating factors, such as distortion by multipath propagation. One of the techniques used in radio communications for minimizing the effects of this type of distortion is the spatial diversity reception, which uses multiple antennas connected to a single receiver. The signals, received by different antennas, are combined, in a technique known as MRC or Maximal Ratio Combiner, so that the output signal-to-noise ratio is greater than the individual signal-to-noise ratios, allowing the successfully decoding of the received content, even though the individual signal in each antenna does not have sufficient quality to be decoded independently. This study aims to establish a method of spatial diversity in receiving television signals in ISDB-Tb, pondering between the advantages and disadvantages of their use in edge regions of coverage, where the reception of the Brazilian digital TV system is not yet total.
